looking for new launcher - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well, ive been using lucid launcher for a long time now and i love it. its lightweight and got all features i need...until now. so now im looking for a launcher (lp 5.1.1) that has the ability to change individual icons on my homescreen. also i need it to be very lightweight..dont want to compromise with battery life..thanks

Nova launcher is a good choice.

I've had a good experience with smart launcher 2, I used to use nova and it is good too

but nova launcher is pretty heavy right?

Are you talking about the power consumption?
I use it on my S5 and I can tell you that is more battery friendly than the Touch Wizz.
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

both battery and ram

ok now ive tried nova launcher too. with lucid launcher i got around 2000mb+ free ram, with nova im around 1500-1600mb free...thats too much

Need Reviews for Our New Launcher
Dear friends,
We have developed a new launcher application in context of an Android project.
As we have decided to distribute the second version (which is still beta) through Google Play, we need some feedbacks (esp. technical and UX).
We believe you, XDA Developers, would be great compasses for us through our way to be one of the best launcher.
You can check our latest version by typing "Snapp Launcher" in Google Play search bar.
Thank you and Best regards.

Which Launcher?

Hi folks,
Just wondering which launcher works best with the 10.1 G8. tried both ADW's and I kinda thought they don't seem optimised for tablet yet especially the EX version. Tried the VTL and didn't really like it, Go Launcher! last tried it on my desire and never really liked it. Any suggestions
Cheers
vtl launcher, in my opinion, is best for tablets. it allows the dock to set at the bottom of the screen and you can theme it with adw and launcher pro themes.
Y I also moved from "launcher pro" which i use on my phone to "vlt" for my 101.
Anyway I noticed a BIG difference in speed from the low res on my phone to the high res on my 101. The drawer especialy is MUCH slower at my 101 then on my phone (htc wildfire 320x240, just 500MHz CPU)
So im giving this thread a try to find something better in speed
Hoped for all those 3D Lauchers but actualy no good and woring one is out atm...
Regina is just portrait atm - SPB sucks - the only hope i got is the Vega 3D Laucher - but i didn't try this yet.
Thanks for your contribution guys but am gonna give this a shot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15957249#post15957249 Will let you know how I get on.
I'm currently using launcher pro, because it is solid and much better then the standard launcher. Ofcourse i do believe there are better ones. But launcher pro is just a nice avarage stable launcher.

I occasionally get application not responding issues in LauncherPro when setting up the icons after a boot. I think the issue is due to the fact that most apps I have have been moved to external storage (with my Force2SD), and it takes longer to fetch their icons. I just click once or twice on "Wait" and they show up eventually, but it's annoying. Maybe LauncherPro is doing something in the wrong thread. Maybe some icon caching would help.
This is just the icon caching. All users that use a SD card has this on the archos. But the launcher does determine how long this wait is. Currently i switched over to a new launcher called "go launcher". Unfortunately Google market wont let archos users download it. Search in the market for it, then go to their site and downlaod it from the developers. Its really different compared to other launchers but runs smooth and many customisations avaible.

I use Zeam launcher and love it, although it doesn't have so many crazy, fancy options, its praised to be the fastest Android launcher

I was with ADW, which was great but i read a post which mentioned Go Launcher and it was much faster than ADW in every way, for example when loading after being killed. Also it has a System Persistent which was the best I've had so far, but ADW beats Go at Themes which i didn't really like on the Go Launcher.

launcher pro
I use adw
@OP It would be great if you could add a poll to this thread better view over the launchers
ADW Ex! It's nice on my Asus EeePad Slider and my Archos 70 IT.
All i don't like is the forced buttons on the left from the Archos ROM. It would be nice if i could hide them on the launcher.
Launcher pro suits my need..

Launcher Pro!
I went for Go Launcher, because I really wanted categorization. Personally, I would have preferred something just like the Palm launcher, and that was the closest I could find.
on my 101it I use ADW Launche EX with ics theme and my custom framework RoTTeNinICE

I like go Launcher or ADW Launcher. Both are good but used go Launcher the most and enjoyed it the best along with goSMS
If you want to be fast, go launcherpro or adwlauncher. However, there's a popular launcher emerging called golauncher. Its heavily customizable and you can make it look exactly how you want. You should check it out for yourself.

I'd say ADW launcher. It is my favourite of all time right now. But I must ask what is Trancent Launcher? I tried searching for it but I didnt find it.
I say adw launcher ex too. It's fast and well customizable.
But...btw CyanogenMod doesn't have adw as stock launcher?
yeah it does
i am running cm7 on my phone
i just wanted to know
because my cm7 is starting to lag a little.
like it takes aa few second to get past the lock screen
and i though it might be launcher oriented
Zeam launcher or launcher pro. I prefer zeam

I like ADW Launcher EX in combination with ADW notifier as it is fast and highly customizable.
But the best advice I can give is to try all the free versions of launchers and see which one works best for your device.

Apex Vs Nova Launcher , Which Do You Prefer & Why ?

Two very good ICS launchers & both have their respective fans !!
Apex Vs Nova ..... It's a very interesting topic of debate ... I would really appreciate some facts from the actual users as to why they prefer a particular launcher for their ICS device !! I would also like to include their "Pro" version functionalities in this healthy debate !! :good:
Sorry , just noticed a similar thread which was created some time back , All i need to know is after so many updates which launcher is worth buying as per their present day performance ??
Apex Pro OR Nova Prime ??
I know this is not one of your choices, but I have been using Trebuchet launcher (the launcher that comes standard with cm9) and it is awesome. Very smooth, snappy, and has tones of options. Reminds me of ADW, but in ICS form. I know that probably does not help you at all, but it's just another option to consider if you want
The first launcher that lets you change the grid in the drawer to fit more icons will be my favorite launcher.
Apex ;D because it gets most of the features first then nova gets after

Stock launcher or Custom?

Just wondering what you guys use for the launcher that comes with a phone or Nova etc, Please share! Does custom launchers can save you battery?

I use Nova Launcher, just because I like it [emoji4]. Stock launcher is excellent too I think but I don't see any negative effect on my battery with Nova. If there is it's soon little that I don't care.
The stock launcher is ok but I have always preferred Nova launcher so much that I bought the prime version, I also have Apex launcher Pro as well but find Nova smoother & quicker.
Using Nova now. Runs a bit smoother then stock
Stock
Google Now launcher. It's been available in the play store since earlier this week and Z2 is supported.
Nova on everything.

smart launcher just because its easy to organize apps
Nova launcher. The default one is fine too and better in some ways, but nova works the best for me.
Smart launcher, few shortcut on the desktop and a clock. Do you really need something else?
Sicksky for me, running CM. Minimal, fast, light.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404089
I like the app drawer on stock, but have been using themer. I haven't looked into Nova too much, recent switch after having 4 iphones. It's odd since you'd think I'd want everything on my homescreen after years with iOS but suddenly I'm all weird about how my app drawer looks.
Google Now launcher. Not interested in bloat and unnecessary, performance-and-battery-sapping gloss.
What is the actual advantage in running a custom launcher? I keep hearing the term banded about but I've never changed my launcher, not even when I was running CM on my old Galaxy S3, I just left it with whatever happened to be there.

More customisation and snappier experience are usually the main reasons. Some launcher have additional functions like organising your apps for you and etc.
I used to be a huge Sony stock launcher fan but then I tried nova and never looked back
Might have to give a custom launcher a try now I'm rooted then and see what all the fuss is about.

The biggest advantage for me is the possibility to add more rows/columns in the homescreen and app drawer, having only 4 columns look ugly and outdated. Being able to download custom icon packs is a huge deal too.

Best launcher for moto g2

asus zenui launcher
lots of options
inbuilt lock
hide apps
font change in launcher

Nova launcher is the best.... Asus launcher has so many inbuilt bloat wares... pls avoid it.....
cm app lock is the only bloatware in asus launcher and it is good for pattern lock for apps
Ccleaner is a bloatware.... I can see it in your image

That is not present in asus launcher ,i installed it
Nova Prime.No question.
I installed Asus launcher some days ago, just to test..Works great no redraws noticed at all, very smooth and fast (is it my idea?)..No bloatware at all, think I'll keep for a while more..

It will not be available in googleplay u can download apk from apkmirror or from given link and download the latest version
It's good but..
I tried the launcher, it was very smooth but it did lag a couple of times like just after booting and when heavy ram usage. I have to say it is a bit smoother than Nova but I would still prefer to use Nova because it's the "best" launcher I know. When I say that it's the best with overall performance.
