[Q] PingPong and possibility to step back ? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently on official
AP: G925FXXU1AOCV non-rooted bought in Belgium
CP : G925FXXU1AOCW
CSC from Luxembourg: G925FLUX1AOCN
I heard that 5.1 should be released in June.
one forth of my tasker profiles require root... So i'm interested in rooting asap but wanna keep being up to date with the officials fw versions (since i still have the night clock bug on mine)
Question:
- If i root it with PingPong, i know i'll lose OTA, so question is how will i know if a new firmware is released ? Does it matter if get a different CSC if necessary ??
- With all those differents fw versions and letters, i'm getting lost , how can i know i have the latest up to date ?
Shoud i proceed this way ?
1) I'll root using pingpong
2) When a new fw is released , is it better (and possible?) to use Smart Switch to get the official update ? (of course i know it will unroot)
3) will i loose my data doing so ???
3) Is Odin better to use than Smart Switch ? if so, why ?
Thanks for your help

News sites & these forums will let us know when new updates drop.
Using Odin to flash a previous firmware will not wipe data.
Once the 5.1.1 update comes out, someone will forward the kernel & build prop info to idler, who will in turn let us know whether Ping-pong Root is still possible.

[Q] Installing JB 4.1.1 and Baseband Version + CSC

Hello guys!
I have Galaxy S3 I9300 GSMH.
It's unbranded, i made a research in the forum and it's supposed to be a factory unlocked phone. following the coment "But as such there is no restriction to use any ROM for any country if your device is unlocked(carrier restriction free)" by dr.ketan in http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1801022
My actual firmware installed is the UBBLG2. It's running ICS 4.0.4.
So, here is the thing, I need to know if I can stall any Official Firmware from Samsung with Jelly Bean 4.1.1.
1. What Official firmware should I install?
2. Should I change the CSC too? indicated in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1646610
3. Can I install the latest Firmware from the I9300UBBLG2 - ICS 4.0.4? Or do I need to update to another firmware version before going for the 4.1.1?
5. will this affect future update notifications by Samsung and Android?
Looking at these site and post we know the lastest firmware is I9300XXDLIB. Should I go with this one?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1646610
Will be this useful to root 4.1.1? http://getmovil.com/android/galaxy-s3-root/
Last thing. OR should I wait for the 4.1.1 release to this baseband version I9300UBBLG2 ?
Take care guys and thanks for all your help.

YES
1. What Official firmware should I install?
Only one JB official the Polish release .
2. Should I change the CSC too? indicated in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1646610
If you want to or have network problems .
3. Can I install the latest Firmware from the I9300UBBLG2 - ICS 4.0.4?
You can but why //
Or do I need to update to another firmware version before going for the 4.1.1?
No
5. will this affect future update notifications by Samsung and Android?
Yes no updates
Will be this useful to root 4.1.1? http://getmovil.com/android/galaxy-s3-root/
Use root from XDA only see the INDEX.
Last thing. OR should I wait for the 4.1.1 release to this baseband version I9300UBBLG2 ?
It will not be released its ICS .

Thanks for your reply JJEgan
so to make a complete picture we got.
1. I can install JB 4.1.1 Official Firmware Polish Release.
2. I don't have to change the CSC. That must remain untouched.
3. Why will this affect future updates if it is a Official Firmware used on a Factory unlocked I9300? so I won't ever get updates for bug fixes and improvements? How will I handle that?
And
4. JB is supposed to be released on the international Galaxy S3. Why do you say it's never coming to my baseband? being this a international factory unlocked.
5. I've seen too many people in the forum having issues installing JB in their Galaxy S3 like battery drain, Wi-Fi issues etc. That's why question #3. Will i have these issues too with no bug fix updates?
Thanks

Same way as you are now updating via XDA .
And
4. JB is supposed to be released on the international Galaxy S3.
It is being rolled out .
Why do you say it's never coming to my baseband?
Baseband is nothing to do with firmware .
5. I've seen too many people in the forum having issues installing JB in their Galaxy S3 like battery drain, Wi-Fi issues etc. That's why question #3. Will i have these issues too with no bug fix updates?
Your choice make your mind up wait for official update for your phone and as you don't understand the basics that may be best .
Or read and learn and flash stock rom from XDA ,

Thank again for your help, I don't want to bother you, but you make me feel confused.
First you told me that JB 4.1.1 "will not be released its ICS ."
But you do not clarify Why this official firmware from Samsung does affect future updates. I mean the Reason. WHY?
And then you do not answers my question and just told me "Your choice make your mind up wait for official update for your phone and as you don't understand the basics that may be best ." even when you said before "will not be released its ICS ."
If there is something else i should know please point me in the right direction, i just want to know and learn more to be sure before installing because it doesn't make sense installing JB if you wont ever get updates from Samsung or android for bug fixes and improvement updates.
Sorry if I'm bothering you, don't take it personal.
Repeat you need to read and learn .
Update path official via Kies or OTA OK .
No problem whenever the update is released for your phone you get it .
Alternative via XDA and flash stock rom on day of release no waiting or custom rom .
Example official JB you let us say six weeks wait .
XDA has stock JB released for Poland you can install that .
But you may then lose your official upgrade path as the codes no longer match as you do not have official firmware for your phone .
First you told me that JB 4.1.1 "will not be released its ICS >> no sorry you are confused .
Official Kies and OTA upgrades are not part of XDA .
BASICS SGS3 I9300 International Only .

AFAIK the software update from samsung is for Jellybean v4.1.2.
Any OTA update will unroot ur phone for sure
PS- and do keep in mind not to create multiple threads for each of ur issue, rather update the same thread

Unroot for Marshmallow & specific SM-G925 model

Hi,
I have a SM-G925FQ
This is a specific model for Turkish market.
I have rooted it with root method for SM-G925F
Now I want to unroot , to update it when Marshmallow is distributed for this model.
How can I unroot ? (any easy methods ?)
And then of course I will root when it is updated to 6.0
- Do we have root for Marshmallow possibility now ?
- Is it better to upgrade with root ?
- Or is it better to do it as I would (unroot then upgrade ?)

You can only safely take the ota by reflashing your stock rom via odin if the odin flash file exists. I recommend searching sammobile.com to find it and if its not there 9/10 it doesnt exist. Idk if root exists for your varient on mm but i do know that there is a root people use but i would say it is just for them. G925F only just got mm so root may be tricky. Anything else further i can help with is odin flashing to unroot besides that there is nothing else i can tell you other than you need a pc.

Flashing stock rom via Odin is a good idea to unroot and have the opportunity to upgrade.
But SM-G925FQ rom does not exist on Sammobile.
Once I had downloaded it through Samsung's official PC app (was not Kies, the newer one)
But I don't remember how I had done that.
Does anyone know how to download original rom through PC app ?

S9 plus G965N (South Korea sk) - how to flash Europe F and increase partition size

Hello everyone,
I have a south Korea:
Device spec:
S9 plus G965M with Exynos 9810 and says SK Telecom in the start but I think it's unlocked because I have my Portuguese sim card inside and it's working here in Portugal
Band name Ron : G965N KSU 1ARJ1
This
I've went thru a lot of threads but I got flooded with so many information that I'm afraid of the steps to do.
Main goal:
1. Use the phone in Europe / Portugal
2. Change the ROM because even with reset and English chosen, Android has a lot of menus in Korean
3. Even boot loader for Odin is Korean.
4. Install Android pie 9.0 and continue to receive updates. This phone is stopped in October patch. I think it won't update unless I put a Korean sim
Since the current official ROM 9.0 with oneUI and Pie is for 965F and not 965N (mine), and since N partition is smaller, where should I start or how?
10. Should I start with CSC change? Will that change partition also? To what CSC then?
11. Root? TWRP? Custom ROM?
12. I don't care about Samsung pay, but will I lose VoltLTE?
Thanks a lot for your time.
Hi folks,,,
At first excuse my language just plz try to keep up with me to get help
So I bought an used S9 plus Duos, inside its G965F...software info, build number its also G965F,, outside on the back G965F made in Vietnam,,, i discovered that's there is root and its on February security patch i tried to unroot it using Odin,,,the where i discovered its G965N!!!! Tried to continue by downloading official g965N firmware (pie 9) ... when the device restarted after using odin the phone working or showing just one sim even it was working just fine and even I used pie firmware its went back to oreo!!!
Plz ... Biiiig plz I need advices and solutions,,, I want to clean the root, I want to get updates ... and I want to get both of sim 1 and sim 2 work

1: cool, super easy and it sounds like you got it taken care of anyways
2: it’s a Exynos processor, so you should be able to root it and throw whatever ROM you want on it
3: if it’s a Korean model it should accept a G965F firmware flash in Odin which isnt a korean bootloader, and even if its not compatible, Odin will just fail out on the flash unless you have the modded version of Odin that is designed to ignore version mismatch errors and flash anyways
4: manually update it with Odin and don’t fiddle with the carrier specific needs for updates
What happened to 5 through 9?? (kidding, I can read between the lines)
10: CSC stands for country specific product code, or something like that. It tells the phone what market it is supposed to be intended for
11: sure, if you want, but youll trip knox if you do. sure. if youd like to, youre welcome to do that
12: SPay can be wonky depending on your CSC, but voLTE is a firmware/carrier specific. I have a regular S9 that i purchased from Cricket (united states MVNO carrier) and it had voLTE when i got it, but i flashed the G960U1 firmware (the "U1" iteration is the snapdragon unbranded version) and voLTE and WiFi calling are now both gone from my menu
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 AM ----------
oh, and youre not gonna change the partition size to anything bigger than it came with. When you Odin flash the firmware, it wont change the amount of internal storage available unless you inadvertently shrunk it with a firmware flash of a smaller storage base phone, which seems unlikely. This was more common in the standard 16gb internal storage days. If the internal storage amnt is incorrect after a firmware flash, factory reset it in stock recovery and that should correct the issue

Hello!
Im sorry to tell you that a I didnt find solution ?

Regarding not receiving OTA updates

It's my first time here, and much of this is new to me.
Anyways, I have an S21 (Snapdragon) with Multi-CSC? OYN, XAA/XAA/XAA that I use in Singapore. (SM-G991U)
I just learnt that apparently OTA updates are only given after the location of where the device is being used corresponds with the CSC.
What would my options be now, to update my phone? (Being able to have OTA updates would be preferable)
I know of (just learnt):
• Changing CSC via the phone app (using IMEI number). Never tried and I don't know if I'll get an error code. My main concern is that I'll not be able to update if I get firmware for Exynos instead (S21s in Singapore are Exynos), if I even get a Singaporean CSC on there.
• Flashing/ updating using Odin? (Heard it doesn't work anymore for changing CSC? I have One UI 3.1)
• Updating using ADB?
I'd love to learn something about this whole CSC mess too so I can understand what's happening and how everything works. And if it's not possible to get OTA updates, the best way to update my phone then. Thanks

Hi Mate
OTA are strictly Active CSC related , independent of the country you are using the phone. I have Spanish active CSC and i get the OTA in Panama
So you will get a new OTA as soon as available , the latest for you CSC (XAA) firmware is:
Date
Version
2021-06-27
11
PDA
CSC
G991U1UEU4AUF5
G991U1OYM4AUF5
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s21/firmware/SM-G991U1/XAA/download/G991U1UEU4AUF5/1557396/
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s21/firmware/SM-G991U1/XAA/download/G991U1UEU4AUF5/1557396/
You can change the CSC but it will depend in what firmware you have and what CSC available that firmware has.
To your questions
1 You will not get an Exynos firmware in your phone as you can not force an exynos CSC into an Snapdragon , Singapore does not have Snapdragon firmware , so you can not force a Singapore CSC into your phone
2 Flashing new firmware does not change the CSC anymore ( in my case did not)
3 Update with ADB ? not sure what you mean but if you mean firmware , no is not possible

Thanks for the reply. Problem is, I've constantly checked for updates but I'm still stuck on the February patch which should actually have even came preinstalled on the phone. (basically, I've not received a single OTA update). This has led me to believe that the country you use your phone in affects receiving OTA updates.
I doubt there's other reasons why I wouldn't receive the updates (since other people have said that location/ connecting to the telco network? affects OTA updates).
Anyways, so to clarify, my only options to update then would be to use:
• Smart Switch (holding off because it is disabled from an app having device ownership)
• ADB (sideloading OTA update)
• Odin (unfamiliar with its uses)
I'm just looking for the path of least resistance to get my phone updated right now. And just to confirm, updating/ flashing (are they the same?) software will not wipe my phone?
Thanks.

Hi
Is hard to say what really going on , as i said I have an active CSC from one country and live in another and get the OTA with no problem ( lot of people do)
Easiest option for me would be doing updates manually with odin , download the correct firmware and flash using the home-csc file , that way the phone will not be wipe , will be like a regular OTA
Check this threads , here and here even if the thread talks about an exynos the procedure is still valid for a snapdragon
I still dont get OTAs. I flahed BTU, PHE and OXD but nothing. anyone else facing this?
I flahed with odin.
