Notifications not working after phone is unused while being charged - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Posting in General to get more exposure. <Mod Edit Questions Belong in Q&A> This is driving me nuts, i rely on email, coming from push blackberry email this is not desirable at all.
If I'm actively using the phone the notifications come through fine, if i leave the phone on my wireless charger (PMA) i do not get any notifications after it has been sitting on the charger for about 20mins or longer.
I'm also not the only one with this problem, all the obvious settings are set correctly. I contacted Samsung and they created a ticket but no clue when if ever this will be resolved.

Are you seeing this behavior when your phone is connected in WiFi or mobile network?

Good question, this occurs only when on mobile network. When it is on wifi it works fine. I have tried different version of the Gmail client and they behave the same. I suspect the problem is only on the S6 models b/c other mfg and older phones with the latest version of lollipop behave ok. I have spent a week testing different scenarios and trying different clients.
Also worth noting SMS and phone calls work fine. It is just email notifications.

I had notifications problem (exactly what you described) when I was connected in WiFi using a router with IPV6 enabled. However I have never had problems when I was connected to the mobile network.

I too had the no-notifications-on-wifi issue and, like Ronis, solved it by turning off all IPv6 connections on my wireless router. It may be worth a shot to go to Settings --> Mobile networks --> Access Point Names --> click the gear next to your currently selected APN --> scroll down to APN protocol: does it say IPv4 or IPv6? If it's IPv6 either use another APN with IPv4 or manually add an IPv4 APN for your carrier (google can help you find this).

The issue myself and many others have is not related to wifi. I think i mentioned in the post you had it was a config setting b/c with wifi on everything works fine.
The issue occurs when it is being wireless charged, when it is not being charged the notifications work.... This is critical b/c most people may not have this problem b/c they don't leave their phone on wireless chargers to notice.
Do me a favor and do this test, charge your phone, and leave it untouched for 20 mins. If you have a wireless charger that is best b/c that is what I'm seeing. During that time make sure you get no TXT or phone calls and only your mobile data is on. Send yourself an email and see if your gmail client notifies you. I'll be willing to bet you won't get the notification like us until you wake your phone up than all the email notifications start coming in. Again this is email notifications, txt, phone calls works.
Cheers

Update to those following this.
I factory reset the phone after i used odin to flash factory rom. Installed latest ATT update. Setup google account and again put the phone on wireless charger, after 10 mins of no activity send myself emails from different accounts from the PC and No emails notifications at all with just Mobile Network only turned on. I'm going to repeat these tests with a wired charger now to see if it is repeatable.
This is quite a headache, with phone off charger it works fine. I'm sure if more people did this test they would see same problem.
I have confirmed even with wired charger, email notifications do not work either. .....

If there are others who can also test this i would appreciate it. I have contacted samsung and they created a ticket but no way to know when if it will be resolved.
Test condition:
1. Charge phone, wired or wireless, only turn on Mobile network, no wifi!!!
2. Leave the phone untouched and idle for 10+ mins
3. during this time no txt or phone calls otherwise it will reset the sleep flag
4. after 10+ mins of no activity send yourself emails from a desktop or another phone. You should in theory get notifications but I'm willing to be you will not.
Thanks

Many more threads like this, guys please contact ATT if you that is your carrier, I have already contacted ATT and Samsung. This is a bug and it appears to be affecting a small number of phones from a batch they have distributed. I'm on my second s6, new from Costco and it is doing the same thing.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/343ma2/push_notifications_only_being_received_on_wifi/

Update: I returned the phone and ended up paying an additional $60 to get the Gold model from BestBuy which had it in stock. I talked to the reps there and quite a few people have returned the Edge models for various problems including this notification issue on the White and Black models. The two i returned back to Costco were both black. The Gold model they just received and have had 0 returns but it has only been a week and there was only two left. I'll test tonight and report the findings. The Samsung rep also told me there has been very little returns of the non Edge model, most if not all the returns have been on the edge models according to him.
I also had a customer tell me on his edge (black 32gig att) his exchange emails would get deleted automatically and after 3 phone swaps he went with the note and has been happy since.
Samsung needs to spend a little more time to work out the bugs b/c this is a great phone with the exception of these software issues b/c most are software related.

Update2: The first gold model i got did not take OTA not matter how many times i tried, factory reset, cache, etc. The home button also was slightly recessed in more on one side than the other. This to me spells quality control issues at least with the home button and this is the first have seen on the s6 edge but the previous phones were all black. So I went to a different best buy and got another gold edge and this one the home button looked right and it took the OTA on the first try like the previous black phones. I'm leaning on not only software issues with the edge but potential quality control issues with the hardware as well.
To the issue at hand with audible Email notifications, the first one did not work like the previous edge phones. So I'm going to be testing this new second gold s6 edge now. I'm not too optimistic at this point. I have a phone call schedule with the ATT ICU team tomorrow or the following day, would be interesting to see what the engineers have to say after testing this specific scenario.

keeping this alive b/c att is looking at these, here is more on reddit
http://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/35y7bg/notification_delay_anyone_else_have_this_problem/

Samsung has admit this is a problem and they are looking into it. At this point I have done everything i can with the carrier and samsung. UCT will notify me when there is a patch released and ill post it as soon as i hear anything.

Suffering from the same problem. Wife has 64 GB White S6 -- no issue on hers. My 64 GB Black started suppressing notifications about 24 hours after I got it. Tried a wipe / reinstall OS at the AT&T Device Service Center yesterday. That fixed it for another 24 hours, but it just started happening again today. Android 5.0.2.
It only happens when the screen is off. Happens on wifi and LTE.
I have a replacement coming from AT&T, but I'm worried it will have the issue as well.
Xperia users on 5.0.2 have been seeing similar problems. talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Compact/Notifications-not-Working-When-Phone-in-Sleep-Mode/td-p/879641
That leads me to believe this is an OS bug.

Contact ATT customer service and ask to speak to Urgent care Team. Also contact Samsung. the only way it will get fixed is if more people contact them so they build more cases and get a resolution out quickly. Otherwise it will take longer to resolve sadly. I went through 7 phones before I got one that somewhat worked. Will never be as good as blackberry push email but its better than not receiving the audible notifications at all.

Do you have a ticket number I can reference at either AT&T or Samsung?
And, yes, I have several wireless chargers that I leave the phone on -- even while in the car.

ATT urgent care team doesn't give any ticket numbers unfortunately, but here are the samsung tickets. However i would urge you to contact the carrier first b/c they have a direct line of communication with Samsung as opposed to their tech support number which will send the info to the engineers and developers.
I had more tickets but I can only find these for now. When i find the rest I will post them. Also I went to best buy and the samsung reps took the IMEI number and also reported the issue with my tickets so I have approached this as many ways as possible.
Ticket number: 1116476568 & 2135852781
You can contact Samsung voice support team through 1-888-987-HELP(4357) Mon - Fri : 7am - 2am (CST) Sat - Sun : 9am - 10pm (CST)
Hope this helps. Let me know what happens.

I"ve been having the same issues...I think it started after the last android update...I have the blue edge...other factor is that i have to use a micro cell tower

That is very odd, normally if you have this problem it is out the box, but it would not surprise me if the update breaks it. Again i would suggest you contact Samsung and let them know as well as your carrier.

I waited on contacting AT&T or Samsung, since I had a replacement on the way and wanted to test it.
Out of the box -- apps installed and no issues.
18 hours later, still working fine.
2 hours after that, the phone did an "AT&T system update".
Shortly after that, I felt the feeling of dread come over, as I thought it odd I hadn't received any notifications for a while. Fingerprint unlock, swipe up, and the notifications come rolling in all at once.
I'll call AT&T and Samsung tomorrow.
How is it that more people aren't noticing this? It has to be a very widespread bug!

Unlocked i717 contantly losing Data/Network

Hey all, I apologize in advance if this is posted somewhere already, I did search for a couple hours and haven't found anything that come close to my situation.
I bought 2 Samsung Galaxy Notes (i717) a couple months ago. With the news of running them on our T-mobile network, I was sold. Both devices were brand new, in the box and cealed from the factory. I unlocked both through the same Cellunlocker.net site for $25.00 each. I rooted both phones and installed CWM. After insalling Saurom RC7 and the Vkl1 Tmo Radio, everything was fine for about a month. All of a sudden, on my phone, I start losing Network/Data, needing a restart to get it back. Over the past month, I am up to an average of 20-30 restarts a day and sometimes it only works 50% of the time, the other 50% I get nothing, at all.
My 2nd phone (wifes) has no issues at all. We both have the same OS/Radio's on them, nothing is different, except for the IMEI number. We both have them in the same area for use and mine will crap out all day long. Nothing I do fixes it. I have replaced the SIM 4 times, reinstalled the same or a new OS many times, Ive heard, oh its your radio, need to reflash it, corrupt file, the list goes on. If its something that you can suggest, I have probably already tried it, software wise. . T-mobile cc says its cause its unlocked, well my wifes is unlocked and doesnt have an issue....soooo.
The only thing I can come up with is there is a difference in Hardware, between our phones. Not intentional, but maybe my Network/Data, antenna is lose or broken and hers isn't. Thats the only thing I can come up with, other than the unlock code is bad, but if thats it, then why did it work solid for a month?
I am at my wits end, I went back to my sad pos Vibrant, that works. I took my note to a local repair place to run diag tomorrow. Hopefully its something they can find and fix and not bend me over in the process. If anyone has any info on this issue, or has had the same problem, please feel free to fill me in.
Thx all in advance

Based on the fact that you are running two identical devices ,with identical software etc.
And based on the timeline of trouble that yours is having ...I'm leaning toward a material defect in the device.
The evidence is simply too strong to ignore ...IMHO
A warranty return is my suggestion ....
And I'm very sorry to hear that news ....g
Just an update....I picked it up from the cell repair store. They told me, my antenna needed to be reseated. Once done, I havent lost signal yet in over 6 hours. Good news is, they didnt even charge me.
If it happens again, I will keep this thread updated, otherwise it looks like it was a hardware problem after all.
Yep...
As expected ....
And great news on the free repair ...g
How did they reset the antenna was it software or did they open IP the device
Sent from my SGH-T879 using xda premium
open the device and push the antenna connecter into its seat.
Easy to say, difficult to do. I don't have a link, but if you go to youtube and search "galaxy note disassembly" you can see it and decide if its something you can do.

Not this guy ....
My shakey old fingers, and poor eyes don't wanna play.
So you might get a pm one day ranger ....with me begging for help on the other end ...LOL ....g
Ok so....my paper weight, still doesn't work. I guess I spoke too soon when I replied all was well. Im not sure what the cell repair store did other than reseating my antenna, but it worked great for a solid day, then started acting up again.
Today I switched my wifes SIM for mine, to try and determin if I just had gotten really unlucky with bad SIM cards. Nope. My SIM worked great in her phone, got signal right away. Her SIM in mine? Didn't get squat on mine, meaning its most deff my hardware (SGH i717).
Long story short, don't purchase online....so you have the ability to take it back to the dealer and throw it through his/her window. I love the Gnote...hands down, coolest phone I have ever had....just wish I didn't get a dud. After all this time, I still haven't heard of anyone having the same issues. I can't be the only 1.
Edit: Just spoke to Samsung and they said it's an issue that happens with the Reciever/Antenna and needs to be repaired. They looked up my IMEI number and said its still under warranty, even though, I took it to a cell repair store and its unlocked with mulitple flashes. As long as it has no water/physical damage, its covered. So I guess I will find out in a couple weeks.
Bad news /good news I guess ...
I'm glad it's getting fixed .....by samsung.
And no ....
You are not the only one ...
There have been 4 others I know of ....
But at this point it's looking like a software issue, with your device being the exception having a hardware failure....g

Hi, I purchased a Rogers i717r used. It came with a custom ICS ROM installed based on AT&TI717UCLE2. It seems to have a similar issue most likely hardware related. Although it would show some signal level it didn't regularly connect to the network. It wouldn't let me make calls or use data. I wanted to make sure all the band were turned on so I followed the guide I've used for other Galaxy devices (see below). It was set correctly to automatic. To further troubleshoot the issue I tried turning on only the GSM frequencies 850/1900 (which is what Rogers uses). I connected immediately to the 2G network and got excellent signal strength. I could make calls and use 2G data. Trying to use only the 3G CDMA bands did not work nor did the COMBI BANDS.
I believe this phone has a antenna wire running from the USB charging/dock board to the mainboard. I wonder if this wire or connector has been compromised. I think the previous owner said the USB connector went bad and it was replaced at some point. I may have to open the phone at check the connectors.
Before I start investigating the hardware, I will try to get it back to stock.
There must at least 3 antennas in this phone maybe more. WiFi, GPS, GSM, 3G, 4G, (possibly multiple for different bands). I'd like to know which one is which.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this is appreciated.
Open the Phone Screen and Type the following code:
* # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # *
The phone will automatically take you to a screen called:
SERVICE MODE
AND YOU WILL SEE THESE OPTIONS:
----------------------
[1] DEBUG SCREEN
[2] VERSION INFO
[3] UMTS RF NV
[4] GSM RF NV
[5] AUDIO
[6] COMMON
----------------------
all these options are written very very small so you will have to touch the screen very accurately to get the right one... so select them in the following order:
[1] Debug Screen
+
[8] Phone Control
+
[7] Network Control
+
[2] Band Selection
Once you Tap on "Band Selection" you will have a screen stating these 4 Options:
-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic [*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------

Someone was nice enough to make a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM. It didn't solve the issue though. It still isn't completely stock as the superuser app is still install along with recovery. I guess I need a copy of the unrooted kernel just to be sure it's not software. While in stock GB 2.3.6 I tried the software update feature to upgrade to stock ICS. It reported there was no update available. My guess is it can tell it's been rooted.

At the most basic level*Personal Communications Service*or*PCS*describes a set of*wireless*communications capabilities that allows some combination of terminal mobility,*personal mobility, and service profile management.[1]*More specifically, PCS refers to any of several types of wireless voice and/or wireless data communications systems, typically incorporating digital technology, providing services similar to advanced*cellular*mobile or*paging*services. In addition, PCS can also be used to provide other wireless communications services, including services that allow people to place and receive communications while away from their home or office, as well as wireless communications to homes, office buildings and other*fixedlocations.[2]*Described in more commercial terms, PCS is a generation of wireless-phone technology that combines a range of features and services surpassing those available in analog- and digital-cellular phone systems, providing a user with an all-in-one wireless phone, paging, messaging, and data service.
I figured that's what that meant. I would still like to know what component was replaced. Part# or Sku would be nice, but they are very vague lol. Should have it by Thur/Fri so I will update then if it's still not working and what the overall outcome is, also info on what "component" was replaced, with any luck.
I had the exact same problem after unlocking my i717 through your same online unlock code shop. Signal would drop all the time. I flashed every radio version I could find and that didn't help. Only other thing I could do was flash different roms and see if it somehow fixes.
Haven't used it for a while, but was just re-flashing it so I could gift the device to family and found the Padawan JB v2 and the stock deoxide roms from jedi roms brought back the signal lost. I flashed the latest AoCP 5.8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773229) and no signal lost in the last 12 hours. I'm also on radio version I717UCLF6. Hope this helps anyone else that stumbles on to this tread.
OP, did you figure out which part had to be replaced? I'm having the same problem. I wish Samsung would release this information, such a headache

[Q] Weird texting problem

Helped a friend with this problem and it was too weird not to post to see if anyone else knew about it...
He has a note I rooted and loaded SGH-i717-UCLF6-FJMod-B5 on for him.
Yesterday we had an area wide network issue on AT&T, no data or edge only texting was borked. It lasted about an hour. Apparently his wife texts him like every five minutes and even more when he wasn't responding.
When service resumed he could send texts and send/receive MMS, but could not receive texts. He called AT&T support last night and they couldn't help him so next he went to the local store where they gave him a new sim card which didn't help. He said they told him it was a known Samsung device issue and one way to fix it was to put his sim in another phone and let the messages come through and then put it back in the note.
I have an old atrix laying around so we tried that first thing this morning and it worked.
My question is why?! Is this a legit Samsung device issue? I found a few posts around the web mentioning the same issue with no real answers.
Its a network maintenance issue. Some things just take a little time to clear up, including sending a huge backlog of SMS.
Yeah, but why would none of my other 20 at&t phone users experience this...and why would putting his sim in a different phone force it to start working.

[Q]GPS/location troubles on C Spire GS2 (SCH-R760X)

My wife and I got new Galaxy S II phones from C Spire earlier this month. They came with Android 2.3.6 out of the box, but a tech guy loaded 4.1.2 while we were still in the store. A few days later, I noticed a few odd things on both phones when using Google Maps:
With "Use wireless networks" checked, "Use GPS satellites" unchecked, and Wi-Fi off:
Maps plots my coarse location, so that I can see the blue directional arrow surrounded by a relatively large circle. So far, so good. But if I drive somewhere and keep Maps up, it never updates my position.
With "Use wireless networks" checked, "Use GPS satellites" checked, and Wi-Fi off:
Maps plots my coarse location, just as above. The GPS icon appears and starts flashing in the notification area. Five minutes later, it will still be flashing. Again, if I drive somewhere and keep Maps up, it never updates my position.
With "Use wireless networks" checked, "Use GPS satellites" either way, and Wi-Fi on:
Maps plots my coarse location, just as above. If I drive by a Wi-Fi network, Maps zooms over to the proper location, and the surrounding bluish circle is much smaller. However, after a few seconds, it zooms me back to my original position, and the much wider circle is back. And I know my car is incapable of teleportation.
Here are the things I have done:
Used the Text CS service, was told to make sure I had a clear view of the sky, turn GPS off and back on, turn the phone off and back on, and finally to try a factory reset, which I eventually did and got the same results.
Tried several GPS apps for deleting and re-downloading AGPS data.
Talked to a C Spire sales person and tech person, called their customer service number, and talked to the tech guy who installed the updates to our phones the day we got them. He worked with it for a while, had me reset the phone through recovery mode (neither forms of resetting restored the original version of Android), and finally said he'd get us replacement phones. This shouldn't be taken as a rant against C Spire; all of these people were very friendly.
Went to my local C Spire store and got the replacement phones set up (they already had 4.1.2 on them, and I'm not sure if they came that way or if someone updated them). Exact same problem still occurred.
Did a chat with Samsung customer service. Had me restart the phone in Safe Mode, and that still didn't help. Suggested I call in and setup a support ticket, which I haven't done yet.
Our previous phones were both the original Galaxy S (SCH-I500). While the phones themselves seemed to bog down in their old age (and froze or reset themselves at least daily), the mobile network locating and GPS locating worked amazingly. Under decent conditions, the GPS might take 5 seconds to lock.
I finally had a bit of a breakthrough today, but it hasn't resolved the issue where location via mobile network won't update (scenario 1 in the numbered list above). I found out about GPS NMEA data, which, for those who have no reason to learn about such things, is the raw data transmitted to and from a GPS satellite and receiver, and installed GPS NMEA Tool. After starting the app, I waited for a bit, and still no GPS lock. The initial view presented by the app is a human-readable summary of the data, and at some point I opened up the raw GPS NMEA log. It started spouting off a few lines that looked to be saying "I can't find a dang thing," but suddenly all of that changed. I switched back to the summary view, and sure enough, I had a fix on several satellites. I exited the app, opened Google Maps, and it got a lock again. It didn't stay locked the whole time, and it was slow to update my position, but it did work.
As far as I know, GPS NMEA Tool is only a diagnostic tool that doesn't perform any magic fix to the phone. I thought this might just be a strange coincidence, but after being inside this evening, I took my phone back outside. I opened up Maps, and after a few minutes, I didn't have a lock. I fired up GPS NMEA Tool, and after a minute or so I had a lock again.
So, does anyone have any clue what might be going on? Here's the info on my phone:
Using an Otter Box Commuter case. I don't think it has any metal in it, and I think someone at a C Spire store tested the GPS without the case on.

Well, I haven't gotten the GPS to lock in again, so I'm guessing the GPS NMEA Tool has anything to do with it. So basically, I'm still experiencing the exact same issues as before.
Well, apparently Samsung sent a batch of GS2s that weren't properly configured for C Spire. The stores were told not to sell those phones. I'm supposed to have a replacement very soon. So I suppose this issue is now finished!
Ok, I assumed getting a new phone would solve the problem, but it didn't. I'm on my fourth phone, I think, and they all seem to behave the same way. A few new things:
When I left the store with the new phone, I turned on Google Maps and left GPS off. My coarse location did update a few times, but then it stopped doing so after I was about 2 miles from the store.
I can get my coarse position on Maps to update by either restarting my phone, making a call, or sending a text. Obviously, my phone connects to a new tower when I change locations, because I can make calls and not have them drop soon after. Also, I figure people wouldn't be able to call me if I left the tower that my phone currently thinks it's connected to. It seems that unless I do something proactive, the phone doesn't want to acknowledge that it's moved on to a new tower.
Occasionally I can have GPS work for a little bit, but it never lasts for long.
Still going on. About the only thing new I know is that this seems to be isolated to GS2s running 4.1.2.
Another update regarding my (probably hopeless) situation. I captured data packets (which only seems to work if using Wi-Fi; on 3G, the phone doesn't look to handle the TCP/IP stuff itself) with Shark, and it looks like my phone has no problem communicating with googleapis.l.google.com. The actual data is encrypted, though.
The phone continues to report that I'm connected to the same base station (specifically, the same sector) until I do one of the above-mentioned things, although sometimes I'll have to make a call twice before the phone figures out where it is. Also, I've noticed that sometimes, if I've driven from point A to point B (we'll say they're 25 miles apart), after a single brief phone call, Maps might move my location to a spot in the middle of A and B. It may then move my location to point B after a second call.
So I still have no freaking clue why my phone won't properly report what tower it's connected to until certain events occur.
Also, I'm guessing the GPS issue at least partially stems from my phone not knowing where the heck it is most of the time. If it's getting assisted GPS data that's intended for a different location, that would definitely cause a delay in finding satellites.
By the way, I'd love to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue, or anything similar.

Wanted to let you know I am experiencing the exact set of problems you are with my Galaxy 2 from CSpire. The gps works in a very inconsistent manner. Some days it works perfectly. Some days it doesn't work at all. Weather and cloud cover have no bearing on whether on not it works.
I spoke to someone at Samsung, but they were no help. They said I could send it in for repairs, but knowing my luck they would test it during one of the few times it works perfectly.
I'll be anxious to hear if you or somebody else discovers a fix for it.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solid answer. But based on my experience and your response, I'm guessing there's some sort of issue with the 4.1.2 update that screws up how the location is reported. I've seen GS2's in stores that have 2.3.6, and they seem to work fine (although I obviously can't run off with one to test it). Plus, if this issue had been present when the phone was first released, I figure it would be much better documented. The problem now is:
There are 2 newer generations of Galaxy S out. Most people buying new phones are going to choose one of the newer 2.
Of those already owning this phone, many won't have updated them to 4.1.2.
Of those who have updated or recently purchased a GS2 that's already running 4.1.2, many won't ever make use of the location functionality.
Out of those who have noticed this issue, I'm sure there are a decent amount who are eligible for new phones soon and just decide to deal with it for a short time.
Out of those who still have a while on the contract, many will likely never get around to doing anything about this issue.
So there are probably a very small number of people who have a GS2 running Android 4.1.2 and who have noticed this issue and want to do something about it. If this issue is specific to the C Spire phones (or C Spire and a few smaller carriers), that further limits the number.
I don't know the details on how a carrier and a manufacturer work together on a version of Android for a particular phone, so assuming there's a real problem (which obviously isn't hardware), I don't know how it could be fixed. Also, I don't know how much effort Samsung and any wireless carriers who carry this troubled phone are going to put forth, given that this phone is probably considered to be in its "end of life" stage.
Samsung also gave me the option of sending the phone in, but I'd be without my phone (unless I got a loaner phone) for 2 weeks or so, and I don't know if I'd be expected to pay shipping to get it there.
I figure the best option would be to see if C Spire would allow you to trade the phone for a different model. It's not ideal, since you'd either have to move to a different brand or move up to a 4G plan (if you're in a situation like mine where you have an older plan that you can keep as long as you have a 3G phone). But I'd say at least talk to someone at a store and see what they might offer. And please let me know how it goes, if you decide to do that. Best of luck!
Another thought: You could have the phone reverted to Android 2.3.6. Again not ideal, but I figure it would fix the issue. I don't know if there's any official way for this to be done, but I'm sure a way could be found.

Elephone S8 Weird issue with network

Hey all,
I am hoping somebody can guide me in regards to an issue I am facing.
I was working on my car a few days back and left the Elephone S8 on the car seat not realizing that it was being hit directly by the sun. After I was done, I picked up the phone and it was very very hot. I then went inside and let the phone cool off.
Since the above, I notice that I struggle to pick up reception. I have tried different firmware, replaced sim cards, everything. It seems to only be affecting certain MHZ bands as 4G LTE work, 3G works fine, and 2G works find but not always.
I have a feeling the 2G is having issues but maybe only certain bands. I do not think it is software related but have no idea where to even start on the hardware side. I first want to try scan for towers and see which bands they use and try see which one could be giving the issue. I don't expect it to just be a lose connector as the phone has not been dropped and I have only been using it for 2 weeks. If I do send it back under warranty for repairs, they will never pick up this issue.
Elephone S8 loss of network issue
Hi.
I think is a hardware issue as the same thing happened to me after 3 weeks perfect use.
I think has nothing to do with the sun as for me happened on a snowy Sunday 10th of December in London.
I suddenly noticed that when sending email the sending would start fast and after a 2-3 seconds the network will drop to 3G and stay like that for long time until the mail app stops sending process and the phone goes back to LTE 4G.
Also when dialling a number the phone will drop from 4G to 3G and than loose the connection straight away.
When indoors the phone would have trouble registering to network for ages without success.
I picked up 4 different pay as you go cards to make shure that is not my network but still no success.
All documented in the support ticket to GB and yesterday have send it back for a refund.
I really like the phone but i am reluctant to buy another if the issue persist so will wait and see.
Hope some more comments will follow to highlight the problem and influence a solution to this.
Cheers
I have the same issue - my wireless connection inside my home keeps dropping and connecting off and on again and again - I have two routers and maybe as I move from room to room it tries to connect to the closest router or something like that - not sure if there is a way to fix it without doing something in the routers.

Same problem here
My network problems are a little different. I don't have problems connecting to different wifi networks (home and work) but the phone does not activate mobile data when leaving a wifi network. I always have to restart the phone when I want to use mobile data (3G).
Kind of the same problem. Have my S8 for about a month. First it has a wifi network. When I leave the place where it is connected to wifi, it goes to 4G. But when I come back to a place with WIFI, the phone does not find any WIFI network. I have to reboot the phone. Soft reboot(a little faster) will also do/work.
Are you guys on the stock ROM?
Were you guys able to resolve your issues

I have the same problems with stock rom and eragon rom. I don't have a solution but I'm still hoping for a new update.
For now I found out that turning flight mode on and off again helps to switch between wifi and mobile data, so it is not necessary to reboot the phone every time.
I can confirm as well that Eragon won't resolve 3G / 4G network issues.
I'm using my S8 for a week now with only one problem, call related.
No wifi problems but after one day of usage I couldn't use mobile data anymore I almost re-flashed my phone (unlocked bootloader, rooted and using Xposed). Turned out my provider f*cked things up. Probably because Elephone is a not known brand here. It took me some time to convince the agent on the phone that I do not own a Samsung S8 lol.
Problem was solved at the providers end.

This information sounds interesting. How did you manage to 'convince' the providers agent that it is not Samsung? And what did you tell it instead?
Steve the issue you have is different. Your issue won't be resolved that way.
You would need an app that switches to 3G/4G if WiFi is not connected.
Happy too soon. After one day with mobile data it's gone again. There's a cross in the lower right corner of the mobile data icon in the status bar. I'll be calling my provider again tomorrow morning.

I'm not sure if the fact that I own a brand that is unknown here causes the mobile data problems. The problems I'm running into atm are
- mobile data problems, 4G is connected, but no internet
- fingerprint scanner doesn't work with my banking app
- backlight bleed in the middle of my screen
- after 3 out of 4 calls, phone freezes for about 30 seconds
- rattle in fingerprint scanner
I guess I'm about to find out how good the return policy at Banggood is ?
I highly recommend that you return the phone now.
There are so many issues with the phone that it's just not worth the time.
Hi guys, I just got the phone, but mobile data is not working. Am I missing something?
Can you attach a screenshot

Does your sim card work in another phone? If so, are the apn settings the same?
I managed to resolve the issue.
I'm trying to figure what went wrong at start. When I got a phone I inserted both SIM cards like this:
SIM 1 - my business phone number - provider 1
SIM 2 - my personal phone number - provider 2
I wanted to use data only on my personal phone number, so I disabled data on business number. What happened is my business SIM downloaded APN info on first boot (i assume), and then my personal SIM used this APN (which was incorrect).
To resolve issue I first inserted my personal SIM to slot 1 alone and booted. Then I changed APN profile to match my old phone's, turned off phone and inserted my business SIM to slot 2 and booted.
Now data works fine. Obviously there was APN issue but how come that phone didn't get correct APN settings per SIM?
Thanks for support!

Xperia 1 J8810 not working in USA

Hi everyone. Last month, I bought a network unlocked Xperia 1 J8110 from a UK vendor for use here in the US. It arrived in excellent physical condition and is from a reputable seller with thousands of phone sales, so not just some random person. I checked behind them, and this phone is for sure network unlocked (see attachment) and from what I've read online, it should work in the US. I've owned plenty of UK phones from other brands and they worked fine here.
The trouble is, I have not been able to get this thing to work with any carrier! I’ve now tried Ultra Mobile (T-Mobile’s network), AT&T, and now US Mobile (Verizon’s network). When I plug in a SIM card, the phone recognizes it and reboots. However, after going through the activation process, I never get any 3G, 4G, or SMS functionality. This is ironic as I have Verizon and T-Mobile towers literally behind my house.
The furthest I got was with AT&T, which received the welcome SMS and showed full bars on network signal. However, the phone kept asking me to “Sign in to network” like it does with WiFi but there was no way to do that. This was after doing the full activation with AT&T, giving them my IMEI, receiving a phone number, a confirmation email and everything. With Ultra, I got the welcome SMS from them but was never able to send my own or do calls in either direction. With US Mobile, it does literally nothing. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work fine, and I’ve checked for obvious stuff like airplane mode being on.
I then figured I’d see if maybe flashing a version of the J8170 firmware would help. I used NewFlasher to flash the “J8170_Customized US_55.2.E.0.165-R7C” as downloaded off of XperiFirm, which was successful. But it’s made no difference. The only issue I’ve seen others report online is that VoLTE might not work with international phones, but I can’t make calls or send texts period.
Can anybody think of what the root of this problem might be? I’ve tried to figure this out for myself, but I’ve reached a dead end in my searching online, maybe I’m just not choosing the correct keywords. Please let me know which other screenshots or other information is required and I’ll post them. I will be so thankful for any input at all. I appreciate it.
