Charging Dock? - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have not been able to find this anywhere. Doe's anybody know if this will have a upright charging dock? I have seen a lot reviews that state the charging points have been removed to help make the tablet thinner. It would look really weird and be very inconvenient to have to plug this bad boy in using the mini USB port at my desk.

I asked this question a long time ago, and I didn't get an answer because it was to new. so now maybe somebody can tell me.

I do not believe Sony will create an upright charging dock for the Xperia Z4 tablet seeing that the USB port is the only charging connection. If there is a reason you need the tablet to sit upright while it is being charged, you could just use a folding folio case to do it.

The missing docking possibilities are really a disadvantage compared to tablet Z and Z2!
Please Sony! We expect magnetic (or wireless) charging dock back in next generation! !

My Prime doesn't charge anymore!!!

all a freaking sudden it stops. I have a case where the prime is on a stand like watching tv and I had it charging I'm sure it wasnt that much wait on the charging port but you know.
I read a lot of charging issue here from putting it in a freezer(i don't have one out here) and somethinga bout spreading the pins out, that one I didn't understand was it the part your plug into your prime or was it the usb part that goes into your computer port. I'm just needing needy details on exact how to fix the problem

buy another cord. at some point you will need it again. that said when my prime didnt charge, i unplugged it and tried again the next day and it worked
yeah i'm in afghanistan and they don't have any here. Moving next week so ordering is out the question......That other method for spacing the pins out if anyone know details on which part of the adapter you're spacing out let me know
Do you have a dock?
nevermindssssssss woooooo I got it to work. For anyone in da futa that haz this problem. Here's one fix.
the adapter that goes into the wall. look at the front that plugs in and it will say "push" push it off and spread the 2 pins outward just a small bit. then snap the adapter back on then plug into the wall. it works. it works!!!!!
Thank you for this! Just pushed the metal tabs out, and I'm charging again!

Charging tablet - with and without cradle?

What's the process to charge the tablet both with and without the cradle? Do you have to uncover/cover a charging connector each time due to the waterproof nature of the tablet? Does the cradle make the process significantly easier (e.g., is it worth the money)?
Charging with the micro USB you have to pop a flap open to access the data/charging port. Not got a dock yet but there are two pogo pins on the side of the tab so looks like you can charge with no need to open anything just drop the tab in the dock and she will charge.

Can anyone who has the cradle confirm that it's just a drop in operation? So no need to uncover a port to charge?

Perfect! it's worth ordering one then. Thanks!
UPDATE: Estimated ship date 20-June. I guess they are popular!
I had the tablet and cradle for about a month (Japanese), the cradle is worth it!

I bought two cradles with mine, one for the office and one for the bedroom. They really work great, very simple but as mentioned you just drop it in and it starts to charge.
What's also nice is Smart Connect, a pre installed app. When docked you can get it to do multiple tasks, like open the clock, mute the sound during a specific time, etc. Smart Connect also works with Bluetooth devices, MHL connectors, NFC, all sorts of external connections.

but dock works great only with those covers that are the same type as Sony original one.
I am also considering getting a cradle but I have a question. Is the USB port still accessible when the device is docked? I would really like to use USB peripherals while having the tablet inside the dock.

Unfortunately when the device is inside the cradle(my cradle modell: SGPDS5) the USB port is covered so you can not use it.

Sad, that. The location chosen for the XTZ's USB port was not a wise choice. You can turn the tablet upside down and put it into the cradle when you need to access the USB port; however, the cradle will not charge the tablet when it is in that position.

I think the USB port location is bad but goog at the same time, for example when you are playing and hold the two extremes of the tablet and durring you can comfortably charge it.However this location is problem when you put the tablet to the cradle. Your idea has a little problem because i put the tablet to the cradle upside down like you said and the power button and the notification led is covered. but its not a big problem because this version of android which running on the tablet has an opption where you can set double tap wake up action

Magnetic Charging Cable

Will there be an Magnetic Charging Cable for the Dock-Connector located on the side of the Tablet Z?
I don´t want to remove the cover of the usb port, only for charging the tablet.
No (probably)
I think it's highly unlikely, here's why:
1. There is the issue of the port distinguishing which contact is positive and which is negative (other devices get around this by having a symmetrical port).
2. The contacts themselves aren't very strongly ferrous indicating to me that they hadn't designed it to receive a magnetic charger.
3. There is the charging dock/stand which is designed to get around the port flaps inconvenience. I can't see that they would have made two solutions to the same problem.
Some users in the Xperia Z accessories forum (try this thread) have made home-made magnetic chargers using an old Sony Ericsson fast port and small bar magnets. Take a look at there work to see if making your own is an option to you.
Maybe a weekend-project...

The contact nearest the volume rocker is +ve, the contact nearest the speaker is -ve.
At least that is how it is marked out on the charging dock.

Correct, it works with my home made XZ dock, but won't sit in it because of size obviously.

I was hoping there would be a magnetic charging cable for the Tablet, I would have bought the Dock if I didn't have a case (pain to remove).

I'm wondering If the above would work...
New chance for a magnetic charger cable?!?
Hi,
I have found a magnetic charger cable for the XTZ at aliexpress.com (see "New Magnetic USB Charging Cable Line Adapter Charger For Sony Xperia Tablet Z SO-03E SGP341/311/312").
Does anyone have already some experience with this cable (or any other magnetic cable from "zerdax")?
It is not so much cheaper than Sony's original dock, so I'd like to see some reference before ordering it.

Sorry, I cannot. The board software tells me that I still have to post a lot of messages before I am allowed to post outside links
I have to admit that the search function on aliexpress seems to employ some kind of random and fuzzy logic.
So, please try to search for "magnetic xperia tablet z" on aliexpress.com and, hopefully, you will find it on the third page.

Found it, I'm definitely interested, its very expensive so unless you use a case I recommend just getting the dock.
I use a case so I will probably purchase that.
Edit: That seller only has 1 rating.

Wireless charging case for ZU?

Does anybody know of the existance of a wireless charging case for the Xperia Z Ultra?
Given that there are 2 external contacts for the magnetic charger plug to attach to, I would have thought that it would be relatively straightforward to create a case which has the receiving coil in the back, and which connects to these contacts to charge the Ultra.
They seem to be out there for the Z - however, an internet search doesn't seem to come up with anything for the Ultra. Or have I missed something?
(This is an example of what I'm talking about, but it's for the Z, not the Ultra: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/qi-wireless-charging-case-for-sony-xperia-z-p38098.htm)
I was giving thought to this just last night. I didn't find anything though. Granted, very little actually exists for our devices yet.

Having to put a 'specific' case on it to wirelessly charge seems pointless to me. The only reason I liked wireless charging was because I wasn't keen to wear out the micro USB port...
place it on the wireless dock... or
place it on the magnetic dock...
same thing really... you still need to place it on a particular device/cable to charge.. however one requires a case...

Its a convenience thing though. You can just plop the phone down on to the pad or whatever is charging it & not attach a cable etc.
I've been eyeing up the Lumia 1520 partly for this reason...

Wireless docks are easier than the magnetic docks from what I've seen, but the point of it for some is to save wear and tear on the usb port.
I reckon that it would be pretty easy to modify a Qi wireless charging card like this one to connect to the magnetic dock pins on the Z Ultra. But I'm pretty sure the charging rate will be quite slow. I just use the magnetic dock or magnetic USB cable instead.
You may wana consider this...it works for z ultra, which I m using as well.

[Q] Magnetic Charger Concerns

I've ordered the Z2 and it should be coming to my door any day now. When I realized that a magnetic charger might be a good idea to prevent wear of the microUSB port I started to look at the options available. Unfortunately the charging dock sold by Sony is too expensive in my opinion and I would like to find an off-brand alternative. I've looked through the posts on this forum and have come to understand that putting the charger in the wrong direction could be a big mistake. I'm still willing to buy just a cable but would prefer a dock to help prevent this.
My questions is does anyone have a suggestion for a dock(preferable) / cable?
I found this cable on amazon:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1947489602&pf_rd_i=915398
PS: A lot of docks on amazon have some bad reviews and I'm wary of buying them
I was in the same boat. The Sony dock looks nice like but it was fairly expensive.
I just ordered this last week:
http://www.amazon.ca/Magnector-Perf..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1421124799&sr=1-2
I've got genuine Sony and this one as well. Sony charger is cut more precisely, phone is held exactly as it should with no wiggle etc. But this alone doesn't justify 10 times higher price. The cheapo one does the job in the same way, I see no difference in charging speed. For example this cable is OK as well. If you don't mind waiting for delivery (it takes about 4 weeks to Europe), I can only recommend these products and Aliexpress site.
Regarding the cables with LED indicator - I've got one and even if it's interesting I don't find it useful. LED light is always on and when it reaches ~95% battery threshold it starts to flicker until fully charged, then the color changes to solid again.
Is it hard to screw up the direction of the charger? I've heard it will completely discharge the battery (It shorts the terminals?)
Also, is there a thin case that has a slot for the magnetic charging / what cases do you use if any?
Thanks for the info guys!
Theoretically the plastic around the terminals should prevent the connector from actually connecting "the wrong way" but in practice it can still happen, especially if you insist in moving and pushing the cable.
If the cable is coming out from "the middle" of the connector is easier to put it wrong (otherwise is easy to remember the cable has to go from the middle of the phone to the bottom so is much harder to make the mistake). However because the phone is so symetric you might confuse the front with the back and put it in reverse even in the docking station.
And last but not least make sure you have good warranty - it is possible that the magnet will "suck out" the connector from the phone, mine is barely hanging and is supposed to be from the batch that fixed this issue.
I have the original Sony dock as well as a third party dock. I also have a magnetic adapter for micro USB. All are working fine. Here are the links:
Third party dock - this works fine with my Z2 even though the title says Z3.
Micro USB adapter
Thanks for the reply unni_kmr, unfortunately I'm in Canada and I can't order through amazon.com easily. (Also that isn't on amazon.ca)
Anyone have input on whether I should get this dock for $15?
http://www.amazon.ca/Patec®-Magneti...=UTF8&qid=1421438530&sr=1-15&keywords=z2+case
Also, I'm looking for a case that's slim but doesn't impede the magnetic charging port. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Found this case, might try to cut a charging hole myself

I don't have a case. I am using the Mocolo tempered glass on front and back. I bought it from here. Its very thin glass. Even with it on the front and back, the phone slides into the docks easily.
slow charging speed
hi there, i recently updated my Z2 , to 4.4.4 and everything is absolutely as expected but magnetic charging speed has taken a serious blow. with 4.4.2 it was as fast as normal cable charging but now with 4.4.4 it has become extremely slow , almost takes 8 minutes to charge 1%, and more than 8-9 hrs to fully charge ..
anyone else facing a similar issue .....kindly suggest solutions.:crying:
thanks

Not only it can work in only one direction but even worse if you manage to make it connect in reverse it might break the phone or the battery. Yay Sony!

I use a "magnetron" cable for several moths now and never had any issues with it.
It is not possible to connect it in the wrong orientation.
I'm really happy with it and would absolutely buy it again.

Very expensive cable though...
And if you wiggle it a bit I'm sure you can make contact with it even in reverse. I assume it is using like any other cable the normal "mechanical protection" which consists in a tiny (fraction of a mm) extra plastic on the "lower" pin from magnetic connector.
