[Q] recommendations for decent 64gb micro sd card? - Xperia Z3 Accessories

hi I'm looking for a decent class 10 and above 64gb micro sd card for my z3 as I have ran out of space on both my phone memory (16gb Z3) and my 8gb class 4 card that really needs to go as its unreliable with my z3 and severely outdated, I've been searching on amazon for 64 gb cards but everyone I look at has mixed reviews saying that there good bang for buck with the correct read/write speeds as advertised but others saying the cards are fake and don't have good read/write speeds like with the orange Samsung evo and SanDisk ultra cards I been looking at. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent 64gb class 10 micro sd card?

Samsung PRO for reliability and for best speed. Sandisk Ultra failed a lot at least for me

I heard SanDisks fail a lot for smartphones, is there a big difference between the EVO and PRO Samsung cards? And Where did you get your Samsung card from because amazon is full of mixed reviews?

I had a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Plus, and it failed on me right after my 2-week vacation. EVO will do just fine as I have not experience failures from it yet. Go with Samsung Pro if you don't worry about spending more money. The difference between the EVO and Pro is the speed--Pro can go up to 90 MB/s, while EVO can do up to 48 MB/s. I have both of these from Amazon, and I can say that the EVO's speed is more than enough for my usage of the phone. If you are into 4K recording on the phone, go with the Pro though, as 4K may need that extra speed.
Currently, there are deals on these: http://slickdeals.net/f/7874453-samsung-evo-class-10-microsd-card-64gb-24-32gb-14-16gb-10

Thanks for the info, il go ahead and get a EVO card then, I only use my phone for photo's and apps/games, no 4k recording so it will do the job just fine ?

+1 on on the Samsung cards. Excellent performance. Sandisk has ended up in my trash can far too often..

4k at this current moment would be satisfied with the EVO linus tech tips has a video on it

Samsung Pro / Lexar (aka Crucial/Micron) / Sandisk Pro and above, should all be good.

So im guessing Sony SD cards are a no no even for Sony phones?
I know Samsung makes the ram and some other stuff for sony phones but wouldnt a sony sd card be most optimized for best use with a sony phone?
Which of the following three looks best...
(Note this Sony card is a new release and has the greatest speed)
Sony 64GB Class 10 UHS-1 Micro SDXC up to 70MB/s Memory Card
SanDisk Ultra 64GB UHS-I/Class 10 Micro SDXC Memory Card Up to 48MB/s
Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC up to 48MB/s
(I cant post links so copy and paste those on amazon if need be)

I bought a SAMSUNG 128GB EVO UHS-I CLASS 10 MICROSDXC Micro in ebay (don't have the link at this moment).
It cost me about 50 dollars and it's working great so far.
You can find them in Amazon also at almost the same price.
Totally recommended.

+1 For the Samsung SD´s. Have never failed me yet..

Amazon has the 64gb Samsung card on deal for $20 only, go grab it

Forgot to reply back to this thread when I got my card but I went ahead and got the 64gb Samsung evo card, been a few months now and it's working wonders, don't get why some reviews were so negative saying it dies after a week and such, I have all my photos and videos on it and I run a few heavy games on it to like real racing 3 and it's still working perfectly fine, excellent card for the cheap price

Sandisk 32GB micro at Amazon...

This is a pretty darn good price for a 32GB micro sdhc! Also being Sandisk brand, they usually go for more. It doesn't specify what class it is, but its probably class 4? Anyways, its only $56 and eligible for Prime shipping! The msrp is $138 on the official website. Sweet!
Here's the official link on Sandisk's page...http://www.sandisk.com/products/mobile-memory-products/sandisk-microsdhc
EDIT: I guess this card is a Class 2, according to one of the reviewers at Amazon. They also said it performed very well though.
Sent from the most "Epic" phone in the world! ...Using XDA Premium app
I use one of those for my evo, it works fine. Then again the evo came with a class 2 card so theres no reason why it wouldn't, its just initially putting stuff on there takes more time, read speeds are totally adequate for a phone.
I think the quality of the sandisk cards are great, I have a three year old 8gb in my tablet right now and it works flawlessly. That is a great price, but it seems kind of slow given current options out there. I'm probably going to buy a 16gb class 10. This patriot one seems like a good deal.
That patriot card is great. I actually have it in my tf right now. I've done speed tests on it that came out pretty high. There is an app you can use called 'sd tools' in the market. Good card for the price!

I bought the Sandisk 32GB Class 4 version from Amazon for the price. It works great and when I watch 1080p movies there is no stuttering
Transcend make good cards too, for cheaper. I've been using a 16GB Class 10 SD with my camera for 5 months and haven't had a problem.
Although I haven't put it in a Transformer yet, I have the SanDisk 32GB microSD and through my SD card reader on a mac it tests at 5.1mb/s write, 13.9mb/s read.
Sandisk speeds
If the card is really slow, and it was cheap, it could be a fake, but don't jump to conclusions quite yet. I once bought a 16gb Class 10 SDHC card, and when I couldn't achieve the 30mb/s read (or anywhere near it) I contacted Sandisk.
I then spent the next week or so sending them pictures, serial numbers and other details such as where I bought it from and it took them a surprising amount of time to confirm whether it was genuine.
Once confirmed it was genuine, although I had a new sandisk multi-card reader, I had to get a specific sandisk sdhc only reader to achieve the fabled 30mb/s. Sandisk allowed me to send my current one to them and they sent me out one that would work to it's maximum capacity.
All this, just to say you can't trust the speed tests you get from windows or osx, as even when you have genuine cards and genuine readers, sometimes there's more to it than that. When I contacted Sandisk I mentioned that they should make it more clear, as nowhere do they say that you need specialist readers to get the best speeds!

[Q] Micro SD Card Size or Speed?

Hey what do you guys think? I can get a either a 16GB Class 10, or a 32GB class 4 for the same price. Does a class 10 really make much difference on a phone? If this was for my DSLR Camera it'd be different. So just curious what everyone's thoughts are. Thanks In Advance!
P.S. The Price is $60. However I work at Best Buy and know i get a discount im just not sure what it is yet...
I was wondering the same thing?
I would think the class 4 32gb would be fine with the Evo 3D, but i could be wrong
What brands? Not all brands are the same.
I just purchased a Sandisk 32GB class 4. I mainly use my storage for music/pics.
I use a Sandisk 32gb class 2 I believe, it may be a class 4. Used it in my Evo4G and now my 3D. I run most of my apps and games off of it, never had an issue. Never any lag, just as fast as a class 6 I used by some off brand. Sandisk is known for having speeds faster then what they are rated, alot of no-name brands are just the opposite though.

Kingston 16GB class 10 for about $55
Kingston 32GB Class 4 for about $50
PNY 16GB Class 10 for about $30
16GB Class 4
I just went through this same thing.... The card that came with the phone was class 4. I downloaded SD Tools from the market and did a speed test. My goal was to ensure that whatever card I got had at least the same read/write speeds as the stock card.
Out of 3 tests on the stock class 4 card the highest results were 7.0MB/s write and 16.9MB/s read.
I went to Frys and bought a 16GB class 4 card (I think it is WINTEC, but will double check) for $19.99. Figured I could return it if the speeds weren't up to par.
Out of 3 tests with this class 4 card, all came back with 11.0MB/s write and 19.2MB/s read.
I decided to go with 16GB first to see if I would really fill it up. Sure, I would love 32GB of storage but when do I really need ALL my music on my phone at one time and how many movies do I really need on hand? I figure I will still use my PC as the ultimate storage device and then sync down about 4GB of music and maybe 3-4 movies at a time... still leaving room for some camera pics. If I find I am running out of space I will then upgrade to a 32GB card.
Hope this helps!
I ordered the Lexar 32GB class 10 microSDHC from tigerdirect today - $55 (approx $6 for shipping *and* tax) today. It retails around $90 at amazon

Only problem is that it is expected to ship in late August... hope they don't cancel it by then
I'm using sandisk 16g class 2 card that come with my Droid X. I do get lag sometimes playing 1080p vids, although rare.. If I don't skip around a lot then no problems at all. I don't consider it a nuisance enough to throw away any class 2 cards but enough to make class 4 my new min requirement.

SanDisk Ultra 32gb $58.95

At B&H Photo Video, very reputable seller, free shipping via snail mail. The SanDisk Ultra cards are rated class 6 but outperform most class 10s in read and write speeds, including the Samsung cards (I need to understand the class rating system a little better). Worth checking out! Great, reliable name..great seller. Don't get ripped off out there folks... Lots of junk cards and ripoffs (counterfeits), especially on Ebay. Anywho, best price I could find for these cards. Hope it helps. All we need is the darn AT&T Note to put it in! bhphotovideo.com
This performance study was done a few months back...before SanDisk Ultra 6 appeared. SanDisk claims up to 30mbs read time on the 6, a bit less on the write time, better than most, if not all, class 10s

Where are you getting your information from? Show me evidence where an android phone performed better with a class 10 card than a class 2-6.
The only time you will ever notice the speed difference between a class 4 and a class 10 microsdhc card is when you use it in a DSLR camera that can optimize the speed. Cell phones can't. You are wasting your money buying a class 10 card.

If you are planning on buying memory cards from eBay you run the risk of getting a counterfeit. Its happened before to me and a lot of other users here. Just exercise caution.
Look people, I don't want to see anyone get taken advantage of or mislead with erroneous information. If you are using a DSLR camera or high speed camcorder you are not going to see the difference between a class 4 and class 10 card. Save yourself some money and piece of mind and buy a class 4 or 6 card from one of the reputable vendors online. Unless you like throwing away your money.

I had a samsung 8gb class 4 card that came with my htc inspire 4g I like to take alot of files to and from work and wanted to put all my apps on a card also so I got a PNY 32gb class 10 card and I noticed alot of speed difference in how fast files transfer and apps run off the card seem to run better than off the class 4 so for $50 I think it was well spent I'm happy with it
forums like these have taught me that i dont need to spend the extra coin on a Class 10...tx to many for that lesson.
when i have the Note in hand, i plan on buying a Class 6 even tho many preach a Class 4 is fine
Simple...just get a standard class 4 32GB microSD card. You can get them for as cheap as $30 on Amazon...basically $30-40 range.
Either Sandisk or Transcend kind will be fine.
And definitely exercise extreme caution if you order any of them from ebay...especially since those HK-based vendors have been known to sell false merchandise.

More reliable? That's a personal opinion as SanDisk's products have proven to be reliable as well.
One thing's for certain though, both of Samsung's 64GB microSD cards (1, 2 Reads/Writes @ 70MB/s/20MB/s) are slower than the Sandisk Extreme Plus card @ 80MB/s/50MB/s. With the Note 3's 4K video recording and best shot, the speed of the card is key.
Do the 64 gb sandisk cards need to be formatted?

The Ultras cannot, but I'm not sure if it's the card's fault. It defaults to 1080p when you choose card storage in the camera app. Not sure about the "plus." My guess is no, because it's built into the app to default to 1080p. Unless it's written in the code to allow 4k to be recorded to an external card based on testing the write speed... unlikely...much easier to default it to 1080p.

Same here. I have older SanDisk microSD cards in cameras and my kid's gaming devices which I've never had an issue with.
I'm sure tens of thousands of consumers are happy with both Sandisk & Samsung's microSD cards, just as there are plenty of people who will have all sorts of negative things to say about each company. Fact of the matter is that all products have a failure rate. That's just the reality of it. One person's bad experience doesn't set the mark for everyone else's.
Personally, there isn't an individual persuasive enough to deter me from ordering something just because they didn't enjoy it. I buy what best fits my needs.
Edit: Just received mine!
I think the 64 gig sandisk cards are the main ones that have issues.
I have a couple 32 gig sandisk cards that are a couple years old, but I have yet to have a 64 gig last more than 8 months.
After the second one I had went bad, I was googling for info on the 64 gig cards & found a thread about exactly that. In that thread, there where almost 400 responses and at the time over half of the posters had the same experience I had. Of course, people that had bad experiences with a product are more likely to speak out than people that have had no problems at all.
I know when they corrupted, sandisk didn't question the problem at all- they said they knew there had been problems with the product and where replacing them with no questions asked.
The card in my phone now is a 64 gig sandisk. It is about 6 months old and works fine so far, but I make sure I never store anything to it that isn't backed up somewhere else.

[Q] What MicroSD are people using with Note 3?

Also, anyone going larger then 64gb? Links to products would be great.

I just got a PNY 32GB Class 10 for $17 shipped. The write speed is pretty much the most attractive quality it had to me... with an average of 16/Mbs it's probably one of the highest and i like to move around big files. Although read is only about 20/Mbs, it's still fast
Bought a fake 64GB EVO card on ebay for $20 so i figured i would go the authentic route this time lol
I have a class 10 SanDisk 64gb been using for 3 years and been working great for 3 different phones up till now.
Hi - what is the benchmark on the sammy pro? I just got a Lexar 633+ (class 10, UHS 1) and I thought it would be faster. I am not sure whta the limitation of the phone is. I saw a post on another forum for note 4 - looked like they got 60 mb.sec read
Currently using the Samsung Evo 32GB Class 10 card. So far so good this card.
