Im not sure if this is the correct area to post this, so please feel free to move me if needed.
Im coming from NC5 HyperDrive release 19. Im realizing i dont use the majority it has to offer and would like a way to flash the stock version. It would be great if i could also remove the safestrap program. I am thinking about flashing a GPE rom and use xposed for what tweaks i do need, that way i have full control over what bloatware i have on my phone.
Any help would be appreciated

yeah wrong subforum, but you need safestrap if youre gonna use a GPE rom simply because we can't flash a ROM any other way on this useless device. also, good luck. I'm stuck with HD until i try GPE again, I personally have not had a fully functional GPE ROM. Sure they run great but either WiFi, or data, or voice is broken at any given point. Hope they gives you an answer

I'm running the Pure Nexus ROM from this thread and have had few issues. Only notable problem so far is phantom vibrations sometimes. This is the most stable Safestrap compatible GPE ROM I've found.

I see this is in the AT&T forum. If i flash this on a verizon build, will it be stable?
I'm helping my friend install CyanogenMod 12 on his S4 (jfltevzw). We've rooted it and we're currently doing a full backup through Safestrap in case anything happens. Once that's finished, I'm unsure as to what we should do. CyanogenMod's wiki has installation instructions for the Verizon S4, but it says in big bold letters to not attempt this if on a ROM newer than I545VRUAMDK. He's on the latest version that Samsung/Verizon have pushed out, which is I545VRUFNK1. Is there an alternate way to install CyanogenMod on top of the newer stock ROM, or is it not possible?

Dang, so there's absolutely nothing whatsoever that can be done? The page says you can't downgrade, but is anything at all possible now that he's beyond the MDK build? He really wants to make the switch and is fine with doing a complete wipe or whatever is necessary.
EDIT: I've been trying to read up on the VZW S4 and why this isn't possible, but I don't quite get it. Reading other threads it seems like the reason is because the bootloader is locked, but that can't be the case if he was able to install Safestrap. I'm coming from a Nexus 5 where everything is incredibly simple, so I apologize for my ignorance. (I don't mean to say you're wrong or anything as I have no idea myself, I just don't understand why it doesn't work on newer ROMs.)

The reason we use Safestrap as opposed to twrp is because the bootloader is locked.

you can install hyperdrive rom
its not lolipop but its worlds better then stock ...
also there is a chance of getting the 5.01 GPE edition rom running when Samsung releases the lolipop update for the vz s4
that would at least give us a working lolipop kernel to use with the gpe rombase
and hey you never know there could be a exploite in the lolipop rom/kernel that lets us get kexec working
Basically safestrap loads after the kernel but early enough to replace point to a different root for the system. So we can load what ever system we want... But are stuck with the kernel the phone booted. If the system is based on the stock kernel this is fine... But when it starts making calls to custom kernel stuff you will have trouble.
So Cyanogenmod only provides the GUI? I've installed CM on two B&N tablets and I've been asked to root a new Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. I've assumed that, because it's new, it will have I545VRUFNK1 4.4.2. I rooted my VSG s3 years ago to 4.3 and there was no going back on that one. It looks like it's the same with VSG s4. So, if CM provides only the GUI, then a rooted VSG s4 can still access Google Apps? What is the concern with with TW based ROMs? Is it the recovery/backup feature or only being stuck with the VSG s4 GUI?

Nope, in order to get CM, you'll need to be on MDK. Samsung prevents downgrading.
btw. the baseband version doesn't matter much. Its the bootloader version that is the toughie.

Hello everyone,
SO I have the Verizon Galaxy S4, Model NUmber SCH-I545
As the title states, I want to try to install a custom ROM, one based on Lollipop, but I've never done anything like this before, and am concerned with certain things:
1 - Are there even many ROMs based on Lollipop that are stable, and wont be a hassle/annoyance?
2 - I've never flashed a ROM before, am not familiar with the process and have heard bad things about Verizon Samsung phones when it comes to these type of things.
I will give you guys all the info I can though.
First off, I AM rooted. I rooted my S4 using towelroot. It was scary easy. Downloaded towelroot from phone browser, let it do its thing. Checked with root checker, then downloaded SuperSU and Titanium Backup, Greenify etc. Thats all Ive done with root.
So what this means is that everything else on my phone is completely stock. Besides the fact that I am rooted by means of towelroot, and I use a Nova launcher, not TouchWiz plus other aesthetic stuff like a custom icon theme (which I doubt matters here), everything on the phone is completely stock.
I did kinda mess around with deleting some verizon bloatware with titanium backup though. Honestly cant remember what I deleted, I just remember I was pretty careful about downloading pre installed apps that I never used, like amazon services and verizon services, no android system things. Phone works fine. Except that there has been a Verizon software update that just will not work no matter what I do. It doesnt give me a detailed enough error message to find out what the problem is. I think it is a verizon update and not an android update. It will boot into recovery and look like the update works, but the progress bar stops and update always fails. This has been present for months now at this point.
So, with this information, what should I do if I want to install say, the CyanogenMod 12 nightly build for the Verizon galaxy s4? Is installing this rom worth it? Ive heard nightly builds can be annoying and buggy. I dont really want that, but would like Lollipop, or at least would like to try CyanogenMod. I think CM 10.2 based off Jelly Bean is the most recent that is deemed "stable" for the verizon S4.
Im sorry for the length of this post, but please, if someone could hold my hand and baby me through this I would appreciate it so much.

You can, it depends on what buildnumber/bootloader you have.
If you are running the MDK build of android (settings --> about device --> build number --> last few letters/numbers) then you can flash any rom made for the S4, but you will have to use the Loki exploit found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292157 . If you are running the latest version (NC5, NJ6, NK1) then you have to use Safestrap as your custom recovery found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56030788&postcount=2281 . You can't flash any lollipop ROMS using safestrap, unfortunately.

Oh i see. Well i just checked my phone and it is one of the builds that requires safestrap like you said. Is it possible to install the MDK?
People are working on an exploit which allows you to install MDK but as of now there is no way

Oh ok, well alright thanks. Hopefully this will be possible soon. If it takes long enough my contract is up so ill just get a new phone
Now that we all have unlocked bootloaders with "developer edition conversion" on our Verizon note edge, we got root and everything ...But no roms or that good developer stuff I know there's people out there with the skills required to make this Phone great again...we just gotta find em...in the meantime though...post all the things you know are flash able on our notes, ROMs, kernels ?

I just flashed that ROM...liked the concept but I honestly wish it didn't have all those extra things that ruin the stock look...like the notification bar and the super low dpi on the home screen, thanks man I'll be trying all sorts of Roms from other threads and update you guys on how it goes

I gave this a go but instead of using the Kernel supplied in the thread, I used the one from the verizon marshmallow unlock thread.
It booted (took a good 5mns to boot), has 4G, and I'm going through the setup right now.

It's a N5/S7 port, so no Edge apps, but the S7 People/App Stripe is there
Edit: Fully booted and rooted. Working pretty good.

tried flashing the ketan rom and got a nice ole bootloop that I'm still trying to fix...anyway to fix? no rom I try installing works after trying to flash the Ketan rom

I'm looking to get started with porting Roms to this phone. I have thoroughly enjoyed the stock features, but I miss the ability to change to something else whenever I feel like it. I know that it may take me awhile but I'm going to give it a shot.

I ended up ditching it and going back to stock because of issues with connectivity. Never could get it to behave right.
Hey guys I just bought a verizon note edge. Did I hear that correctly?!! Unlocked Bootloader, and root? I really hope so. Please confirm, and a point in the right direction would be appreciated. Thank u.

reflash your stock tar in odin and go through the bootloader unlock again and try another that way. as long as you can get your phone into download mode it is never really hard bricked.... usually... sometimes....
Hey guys don't want to jump ahead of the gun on this one, but want to let you know I am downloading 4 marshmallow roms that should work on our devices, and tomorrow I am going to load them on my rom machine and see if I can decompile them and get them going for note edge using our boot.img and the custom kernel posted in the marshmallow unlock theead.
I don't promise anything, and I can't upload them when I'm done cause I haven't gotten permission from the original devs, I don't want to waste their time just in case it doesn't work, one of which is completely free of all touch wiz related material and has xposed running on the MM os. Pretty big deal considering how xposed likes to kill samsung devices running 6.0

I just picked up a mint condition Note Edge (915V). Id like to start working on a ROM for it, but it would be nice to have a base to work with. Anybody have a flashable stock Marshmallow (CPD1) ROM that's 100% untouched (deodexed preferred). Still has all its bloat.
I used to make a ROM this way for the Droid 3, but that was a little easier than it is now. Id like to help out the lacking development for the Note Edge.

Anybody willing to test PAC ROM 6.0.1?
I have been making ROMs for the N915F and N915T, and, by God's grace, they have been working.
I do not own a N915V, so I need some testers, if anyone is willing. Here is a link to download PAC 6.0.1 made for CDMA phones:

You will need the unlocked bootloader.

I need actual details, like what modem/bootloader you are using, if it did or did not boot, install, work, etc. Screenshots help me visualize what you are talking about. Etc.
If it works, we can make more ROMs.

Did anything ever happen here? I would love this.
My phone is a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T. A while back I decided to root it. After rooting it, I realized you cannot use Snapchat and I wanted to unroot it. Now, that I am trying to unroot it and return it back to stock; it won't. Yes it is unrooted and I know this because I installed Snapchat and used it last night. That is not the problem. The root is GONE. No matter what I do I cannot get it to flash a different firmware. I used a superuser, that was posted in here. It was like superuser something zip. It was not the old way, like when you flashed it through Odin. This one you actually unzipped it through the Team Win recovery. And the ROM that I used, Is the one that is on here now that I cannot get it off. It is a Marshmallow 6.0.1. I found posted in here too. If this helps, the emojis are not the flat minimalist looking ones, like Twitter uses. They are very round raised embossed kind of shiny and cartoon-ish looking. I have went to a post in here with all the firmwares listed, I went to samsung update and to sammobile. I have gotten different builds for my model of phone. And nothing this will not get off. I have tried to restore it back to stock and no it will not? Why can't I get this rom off my phone? :crying:Can anyone help me. I feel like I am crazy. But I can assure you this is the truth!

Are you sure its a G900T? and not the T3 ?I have no problem flashing a stock rom to my G900T.What Odin version are you using?I have a post that has the newest stock rom on the page..Try downloading that one,and unzipping it,then flash it with Odin....Heres a link to the posting... https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/general/recent-odin-flashable-bootloaders-t3574276

It is a SM-G900T, it is unlocked if that made a difference? I was able to get this G900TUVU1FOG6_G900TTMB1FOG6 to flash to it. And then it upgraded a few times over night. It seems to be fine. But it still does not have the new emojis, is that a Samsung thing? Doesn't the emojis in the Marshmallow update look similar to the Twitter emojis?

Like I stated in my post. I wanted to be able to use my Snapchat again. You cannot use Snapchat with any rooted devices. So, I wanted to return my phone to stock. What I probably should do is get rid of this outdated phone and get me new one ASAP.

Forgot about that..Have you tryed searching the web for ways to get snapchat to work with root?I just did a quick search,and came up with a number of ways,weather they work or not i guess you'll have to try..

Did you even try searching for Kies? I just did and found several download links. It looks like the one page I sent you to has a bad link.
