Some Apps stuck on installing step after minor update - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Today I had a small update to the OS of about 12MB. Normally when there is a major version update such as to Lollipop I reset the phone post install and reinstall and set everything up. But since this minor system update done via Settings...."Software update" quiet a few apps went through updates. The problem is a certain number of these apps are getting stuck on the Installing stage. I have to stop the Playstore app and disable the auto update for a handful of my apps that are having problems so that other apps can install. I have tried rebooting the phone with no success.
What I want to know is what is the correct procedure after a major or minor update to the Android OS?
Should one just reset and install everything again or is there a less drastic way of ensuring everything works cleanly?
Thanks

[Q] Disabling OTA Updates?

Does anybody know a way to disable OTA updates on Thunderbolt? I have a rooted phone, and don't want to deal with updating for now. My problem is the OTA updates cause the phone to reboot, the update fails and then I have to reboot into recovery, clear the caches, reboot again. It's a pain, and it seems to be happening at least once a day now.
Any hacks out there I can apply to disable the OTA updates?

If you have Titaniumbackup Pro then just freeze the update/updater apk. If not, I would suggest getting it, it is well worth the cost.
Great suggestion. I have TiBu Pro and have frozen the two Update apps I found in the list along with "VZW Package Installer 1.0" and "Field Test 2.1-update1" and "Field Trial 2.2.1", having done the last three just now. It did try to do yet another update a few hours ago, so we'll have to see if the last three do the trick.
Anybody got any other suggestions for Apps I should freeze to prevent OTA updates?
Update: None of the items I've frozen seems to have made a difference. Still looking for other ideas.
I'm thinking it was DM.apk or something similiar that controlled ota updates. I don't have a stock rom running atm so i can't be sure. When you find the correct one you won't be able to get to the update phone screen from settings any longer. Wish i could be more help but i just can't remember.

I was having that same problem and I just broke down and applied the update. I used clockwork rom manager and a rooted/deodexed update file that I found on the forums (linked from androidpolice, i think). Flashed the update, without wiping the current setup, then flashed the radio from the bootloader. Worked like a charm. I've got the update, it's not searching for more, and it reinstalled all the bloatware that I deleted instead of freezing when I got the phone. I went back through and freezed all the bloat junk, and my TB is running better than ever. Oh, and I'm just running a rooted stock rom.
I too suffered the same problem. I just ended up installing a custom rom to get rid of it for good. Best decision I ever made, I really like the Synergy build.

Foxhound updates

Looking for bait of advice I have been running version 1.5.4 Foxhound Rom which lately there seems to be an update for every other day.. now the problem is if I want to update to the new version I have to wipe all my data and start fresh if I don't and install the new Rom without wiping everything then it won't boot up and freezes at either the starting apps point or the finishing boot point which is more than little annoying! I've tried to follow the instructions on the thread from here fixed permissions etc etc but it will not play ball.. I've tried updating then restoring my data after and still the same.. any suggestions would be greatly received

New SuperSU update (2.00) causes bootloop

Just wanted to say that, for me, and from many reviews in the Google Play Store, the new SuperSU causes a situation where the phone boots and finishes it's initialization but then reboots and gets stuck doing this. I resolved it by disabling SuperSU. My phone is bone stock except for being rooted.
Maybe the automatic update from the Play store caused the issue and I need to install the update through a different machanism? Anyways, disabling it solved the immediate issue, but I need and use SuperSU so I hope there is a general fix soon.
EDIT: I installed the update through TWRP, which seems to have solved the issue. Just wanted to put it out there for anyone having this problem.
Thank you for this information, this explains a problem I started having this morning.
Strange, I usually have ALL the issues, but I don't have this one.

[Q] PA ROM weird issue!

After flashing the latest version( pa_i9300-5.1-20150528.zip) in recovery, 'Reboot System' reboots to recovery itself. Weird! So I flashed the earlier version(pa_i9300-5.1-20150520.zip) and it rebooted to system and it works. Now I get the OTA update in 'Paranoid OTA' app for the latest version that gave me problems. If I install,
1. Will there be any issues with reboot or any other related issues?
2. Should I reinstall installed apps after update?
Thanks
Not sure if related but I installed pa_i9300-5.1-20150520.zip some time ago on my i9300, everything has been working nicely. Then came the 28th update and another one earlier this month... but installing those updates just resulted in a crash after installing (as in the boot screen looping). Now my system just popped up with an 20150619 update so I thought to try again, but again it download and installs just to loop the boot screen. This time thought I afterwards decided to re-install superSU and my boeffla kernel, that seemingly did something as the phone booted and update. Now maybe this is something one have to do for each update for it to work? I'd love to know for the future as I'm no expert on this, though if you have something similar maybe that's what is required.

I think flashing the Kernel as you did after the dirty flash will help. But the there is no stable Kernel available for CM12.1, even the Boeffla you are using is in the alpha stage, no support yet! So how is the battery life and stability with Boeffla Kernel?

Problems with the Compatibility Patch

So I got the compatibility patch on my LG-H901. Thinking nothing of it I agreed to install and reboot. Once I had done so, I now have the Yellow Boot Warning at every boot. And also a bunch of my system apps stopped working. Camera, Phone, Music ETC. I don't remember ever flashing a ROM that would trigger the warning seeing as how I got the update to 6.0.1 a few days before and hadn't done anything since. So I flashed back to stock with LGUP through KDZ Full Wipe, and the problems still persist. Now I'm complete stock and the compatibility update is waiting in the update center again. This is my first post and I'd really appreciate the help. (P.S Speakers won't work , and Google apps seem to not work properly either.)
