Poor RAM managment s6 edge - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

IS there any fix for poor ram management from samsung or from any XDA developers

There was an update that was meant to fix. It hasn't got it quite under control just yet though

RAM Increase with a custom ROM on The SGS3!!

Folks,
I need to know weather or not is it possible to increase the current RAM for the S3. I have a international version of the S3 in which the ROM has a limitation to 779MB. I hear some devices in US and Korea have a 1GB RAM. So if the device is the same is the RAM limited on the build or the hardware? And is it possible to increase the ram with a customer ROM?

The international version has 1GB of RAM, I think the reason it shows 779MB is because the rest of the RAM is reserved as video memory. Don't quote me on that though.
P.S. The US and Korean versions have 2GB of RAM.
you cant increase it further 779 is the max you will get. us and international variants are different
The reason I asked is. I face alot of performance issues on the SGS3. My Memory always stays at 455 to 600MB usage. I dont have much applications installed .. Only basis ones that I need. Any ideas on optimizing the memory issue?

Are you running the stock rom at this moment or do you have a different launcher?
Its the default rom and unrooted. And also the defualt launcher in S3

You would be better off waiting for the Jelly Bean upgrade in a few weeks .

I don't think RAM is the problem for your performance. My S3 is also running between 450 and 600 and I don't have any performance issues..
There are some tweaks you can try under Settings -> Development like animation scale and background process limit.
When do you have the performance problems?
Do u really think JB will increase perfomance? And I honestly dont think that OTA will be relased anytime in this quater! Plus i prefeer the ripple effect in ICS would samsung keep that in JB too?

I see battery issues at times, also when I clear RAM to free up some memory the home screen goes blank and then appears, I have formatted my phone also, but even using a plain S3 and trying to clear RAM my screen still goes blank. Is this a known issue within S3 when clearing RAM?

When you clear your RAM..all the cache which was generated gets removed hence when you go to your homescreen again..that data has to be loaded again ..and hence the delay...dont try to force your phone..Android has a very good memory management ..it will do it for you..clearing RAM all the time will just make your launcher and other most used apps slow to open...
Yes it is a hardware limitation..we have only 1 GB of inbuilt RAM..of which 221 MB is used by system and the rest is left for your apps...

Tweaks? You shouldn't have to make tweaks to the follow up to the sgs2 with super duper quad core!
Fact is you probably do.. The sgs3 is a fail. There are undeniable performance issues. It is on par with the ZTE Blade.

Agreed, I am really not satisfied with the performance of a quad core processor!! A quad code with a 2100 mah battery is decent but not upto mark what you expect the phone to give an output.
I was better satisfied with my galaxy note with a 2500 mAH battery which ran 3 days using EDGE and 2 days if I'm using HSPDA!!

Dear Sir, the miui rom shows you the complete 1 GB but the extra 221 mb is not available for your apps..if you have noticed even after a fresh intall the available Ram will hover somewhere around 600-700 MB and not 800-900 MB..
it is just how it is displayed and not used..
hope it will clarify your doubts..
I had huge memory leak issues. My ram used to fall even below 50 MB even after removing all bloat. I finally found the solution by moving to "Foxhund Rom". I have applied his min free ram tweaks. Now My ram never falls below 200 MB which is good enough to run heavy process.
I dont know howto increase RAM storage but there is a way to increase data storage.
Look here
LMFAO some of the comments in this thread are seriously pathetic! Performance issues with this phone? Making it comparable to ZTE Blade? Iphone users and trolls in here much?!?
This phone, bone dry stock is blazing fast and incredibly smooth and with the latest stock latest firmware the home screen redraw is so smooth it doesn't even look like it's redrawn.
With custom roms that keep 200mb clear in RAM all the time, there is no multi tasking because the phone is constantly closing apps to keep 200mb free. It's just to keep people happy that they can see free ram! If it's never used, it's useless..

Ram consumption

ok so my brother got his s3 with 4.1.2 and the problem is that his only 100mb is free out of the 1 gb ram. i tried finding the culprit but in vein. the last thing i am thinking of is flashing rom again via odin. wat do i go for?

That's fairly normal, leave android to manage ram, it does it pretty effectively, and certainly do not use third party apps to try and manage ram,, unused ram is wasted ram in android terms

Believe it or not...its an issue that related to the framework of Android...other Android based flagships also have this "issue" so to speak...hence, Google has been trying hard to roll out Project Button to counter this issue by force V-Syncing to ensure high FPS allowing a more smoother interface...IIRC, Project Butter is coming out? or already out? which should further improve the overall smoothness of Android. This is also partly why many low-end devices are still ICS due to lower hardware requirements.
I would hope to see this resolved in the future

im thinkin To replace my S3 I9300 with I9305

Hi
Just im looking for advice
i have I9300 , but i'm looking to replace it with i9305 for Extra Ram
but the Rom and support for I9300 is more better
So what do u advice me ?!
Thanks
It's your decision. You want cutting edge ROMs - get the i9300, you want the extra RAM - get the i9305

better ram
or better rom support ?
Depends on what you need.
As for me, I might've chosen the i9305, but I also might've regretted it because of the lack of JKay and Domination
I guess you're not having any performance problems but the amount of available ram seems small. I do think about it too but I sure you if everything is working good don't worry about the free ram. I did try few roms and some was worked with around 400 mb of free ram somehow but believe me they was with bad performance than other roms that shows me under 200 mb free of ram. So it seems that is pointless to even worry of the amount of free ram. Free for what? Let it use however it needs at enjoy of your rocket. Multitasking get troubles if this ram is reserved for just showing us. I see some video comparisons of the two models and quad core was better in them as I remember. If apps are not crashing as is on my phone I think is good for you to keep I9300. I had a dual core I9100 with 1gb of ram but it was overheating all the time I played harder games. What if the processor of phone you want to buy get overheat with it's 2 gb ram memory. Maybe the amount of ram will not helping so much. While I play the harder games with my phone now, the free ram is under 100 mb but no matter my phone never get hot as my old Galaxy S2. I think quad core processor is the reason. Stronger processor is better I think than bigger ram memory. If you actually haven't problems of course.

just im Afraid the performance will be same then i lose the nice rom support
and some time im telling my self maybe after some time a new cooker will support I9305
and you can enjoy both
do you really think 2G RAM and 1G RAM can make that much difference?
i mean , why do you need so much RAM ?
i had been a same situation once before in similar.
i bought a laptop year ago come with 4G RAM , i just didn't know what i was thinking , i bought an extra Memory , (4GB , 50 euros) to make dual-channel, and plug in , initial up
okay, i didn't see any , not even a little bit of performance improvement although some benchmark software indicates something like 3% - 5% performance up.
but it is not humanly recognizable...
actually i can change my mobile with i9305 on free
I think i'd take the i9005
The original one just doesnt have enough ram..
Apps keep reloading. No proper multitasking. Its like im using an iphone..
But still, keep your phone and wait for the S4 is my advice.

That's rubbish. I have the the i9305 and I'm currently running latest Jkay and I've had the latest Domination theme, I've also had Alexander theme. I'm now running the latest Motomoto theme..
In my honest opinion the i9305 is 10x better than the i9300. I have both and can honestly say that the 2gb RAM in the i9305 makes a huge difference. I find the i9300 is a pain to use. The i9305 is AWESOME! It keeps apps in memory for ages, I can be playing Vice City and come back to it 2 days later and it's still there exactly where I left it.
It feels snappier than my i9300 too, I guess this is because all the apps are stored in memory so need need to load or redraw anything.
The i9305 is how Samsung should of made the i9300. If you traded you definitely wouldn't have any regrets.
The i9305 is a beast!

As long as you make sure you only flash things from the I9305 threads, you'll be fine.
For rooting just go the Dev I9305 forum and look at a thread called "what to do when you first get your I9305" or something like that. It has everything you need.

when the ram become below 100 MB . and u be forced to run to use task killer to increase it
now i feel safe because the ram always up 1000 MB :good:
and sure that reflect on maltitask . no more lag when im opening many heavy program . u won't feel that some program work in background as before
and after install Motomoto thems i feel great
boot animation , and some mods programs is not working
in General i feel happy to convert to i9305 for now ....hehehe
but i will miss the Great OMEGA rom
my advice to any one thinking to sell his mobile (i9300) to get i9305
better to wait and get S4
for me the deal with on free with out pay extra money
Thank for all who share information

Redraw

I've already gotten redraw twice on my phone and I'm really surprised, I don't think ever getting a redraw on my note 4. Anyone else getting redraw? Is it because of touchwiz or bad memory management?
Sounds like a faulty phone. Return while you still can.
I get tons of redraws. Battery life is atrocious as well.
What is a redraw?
Sent from my SM-G925F
When widgets and stuff have to reload on the screen when scrolling, leaving apps, etc..
I've noticed this too sometimes, its gotta be software...hopefully a firmware fix should sort.
yup its software. everyone says free ram is wasted ran. well when you have the system only leave you 400 mb of ram left or you apps, then there is a problem. yes, out of 3GB, most times, you'll see we only have 400 mb ram for our apps hence all the redraws..its quite bad.
Ok I'm not the only one who's having this issue. I think I had one redraw with my note 4 in like 5 months. @martinezma99 What am I supposed to tell them? "oh I'm getting redraws, I need to return my phone." @Rippley05 Yes battery like is kind of ****ty on my end too.

I don't think ram is the issue most of that ram taken up is pre-cached apps so it should be the other way around. I have the same amount of free ram on my note 4 and no redraws. Even worse nova keeps crashing.
Switched to Nova. No redraws as of yet.
This is why I never bothered with Samsung after my S3. Constant re-draws due to its crappy software. You'd be disappointed to see this on a £100 ZTE but not a £750 Samsung device.

I hope a software patch can fix it. The note 4 has no redraws.
I got redraw twice, it's really due to TW or kernal
using Nova or Apex may improve it, but it still have bad memory handling
I dont think it will be fix.... at all, given samsung had this issue since S1
I will immediately flash a better rom/kernal once available,
this edge is running slower then my old LGG2 with custom rom, how sad

Marshmallow Update, Impressions, comparison, found bugs etc.

]Finally is here. Marshmallow 26.3.A.0.131 update bring us so wanted improvements.
Here you can post your thoughts, performance reports, or possible bugs you may found.
First what get better:
1. Overall performance - is so smooth, every menu scroll fast.
2. Camera - i can't confirm, seems little bit better
3. WIFI - Wow so much better, before i was trying couple times until get connected, now is instant.
4. Actual perfomance - I make test with Antutu, Asphalt etc. Is much, much better. Antutu score on Android 5 was around 29 k and 30 k max. Marshmallow wake the beast and score now is 32 k. Asphalt 8 is playable on medium settings, before very low settings was only way to play it normal. Do you know why? CPU isn't limited anymore 4 cores on 1.46 Ghz and 0.8 Ghz for the second 4 cores.
What wasn't fix, or improve:
Apps opening time
Overheating is same as before
Low storage
More perfomance needed
Sites loading is slow as before
I found two bugs, the one bug is in the dialer the letters under the numbers are repositioned a little bit, and idk if this is a bug but the status bar doesn't take the color of the app you are using

I think it's called "feature", you may want to try What's New (Play Store) themes if you'd like colourful status-bar. It looks like that stock themes prefer black status bars now.

Seems to be a bug, Detect USB device does not make sense without OTG.
The update is fine but a little bit disappointed specially on performance, apps are still opening very slow although UI is faster, at least now we have a better multitasking performance and no more bugs on RAM.

I also found that speaker was louder and clear on LP plus even have a little bit of distortion at max volume now, and in mi case, performance in 3D games was smoother in LP 3.120 with ondemand CPU governor. It might fix again if i change governor in MM but still not rooted as im waiting for a method for locked bootloader.
