I cannot update to lollipop - Verizon LG G3

I tried to check updates through the phone and it said my phone is up to date. I also try the Verizon upgrade assistant and it checks the phone's info but it doesn't give me the option to upgrade. I am no Android Version 4.4.2 and on software version VS98510B. I just bought this phone on craigslist. Help me out please?

Root it, install and update TWRP, and JasmineROM. Boom.

I would rather not root the phone.

No harm in rooting it, only benefit as half the people I talk with don't even like Lollipop, especially not the broken VZW version. With root, at least YOU can choose when the phone YOU bought and own with YOUR hard earned money is upgraded. Just my 2c. Otherwise I don't know why it would be doing that. Keep in mind if you upgrade to the broken Verizon LP build and don't like it you'll be rooting anyways to downgrade back.

Use the 23C_01 KDZ with LG Flash Tool 2014 in Windows. Have the Verizon specific LG drivers installed first.

Sometimes when downgrading to 10B you will not be able to update. So KDZ to 12B and then take OTA.

How do I get the 12B KDZ? I can't find it by google. What is OTA? Over the air? How do I do that?

12B KDZ should be in this forum... somewhere....
OTA = Over the Air
If you are on an unmodified, unrooted stock with stock recovery, it should trigger automatically. If not, got to Settings and have it check for an update. Pretty large files, may wish to make sure that you are on wifi.

Mines the same way on 4.4.2 and says up to date my version is vs98510a tho...

Most likely if you aren't getting ota, you are not using it on verizon. Like me lol

thats not entirely correct.
if you are not getting updates, most likely some uninformed person flashed the phone with the 10b kdz, which is not on the official update path, and why you cant get updates.
use one of the return to stock threads in the general forum to fix it, and use any other kdz or tot but not the 10b kdz or you will be right back stuck again.

Upgrade to 5.x.x lollipop (official)

I have a verizon G3 with straight talk sim (ATT) works well so far with occasional spotty data coverage.
Its installed with Kitkat 4.4.2 (10B). Ancient . When I goto settings>System Updates, tells me no new update necessary at this time.
Your "LG VS985 is up to date" . Few qns
1. Is this happening because I am not on offficial VZW network?
2. Is there any way to manually update using ODIN flashable lollipop files?
3. If I get a Verizon sim , can I update to 5.0.2 officially?
Please help.
It needs to be active Verizon Sim. Odin is for Samsung

Also, the equivalent for Odin on LG is LG Flash Tool 2014. You can use it and the latest Verizon-LG drivers v2.22 to flash the KDZ for whichever stock Android version you want. If you want root on 24B, keep in mind that most of us haven't been able to get it after directly flashing the 24B KDZ, only by starting with the 12B KDZ and taking the official OTAs up to 24B first.

VS985 Stuck on Kitkat

Hi,
I recently installed Cyanogenmod 12 on my LG G3 Verizon running Lollipop, but stupidly forgot to create a backup. So when Cyanogenmod started to act up, I decided to revert back to a stock Rom. After finding the .tot file along with instruction on how to flash it, I did so. The problem is that it was a version of the stock Rom with Android Kit Kat. I tried to update, but all I got was a message saying that my device is up to date, which I know for a fact it is not. I even tried rooting it so I could flash at least Cyanogenmod again, but my computer no longer recognizes it when I type "adb devices". Any help, specifically on how to update, but also on how to root, will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scrook
Sometimes after a fresh flash it can take days for the OTAs to start showing up again. It's happened to others and to me.
You could use LG Flash Tool 2014 to flash any of the other releases: 12B, 23C, 24B or 35B.
Stock unrooted 35B can't be rooted yet and the only way of downgrading is the 10B TOT WITH a new .DLL that came with the 35B KDZ.
You can root 10B the easiest with the Stump app on XDA in brute force mode. On 10B you can use TWRP Manager to put the latest version on the.
The three 35B stock based rooted ROMs all work great. I'm using @xdabbeb 's.

There are three stock based lp roms, XDABBEBs, Jasmine 9.1, and SkyDragon. Pick one and flash it like according to the directions in the op.
Or flash an aosp lp ROM. I only use Tipsy or Tesla. I've read all are good though.

You'll have to have the modem from 23C, or possibly 24B for CM12.1 to install. You can get either from @Bwendiord 's stickied thread in the General section.

I don't know. Why do you want to flash FlexOS first? Like I said, you just need the 23C or 24B modem. It might care which, it might not - I haven't actually flashed CM12.1 or CM12.1-based ROMs lately. I know it was expecting the 23C modem at some point, but someone told me that some CM12.1 or CM12.1-based ROMs will accept the 24B modem.

Flashing a modem will not brick your phone, at least I haven't heard of a case of flashing one bricking a phone since my first Android device in 2010. The worst that would happen in this case is CM12.1 would refuse to install until you put the right modem on.

So, at this point you may not want to root or rom. This rooting/roming/tinkering thing requires a certain amount of reading, reading comprehension, and a bit of self reliance. None of which you are displaying at this point. If you want to continue I suggest you do a bit more of those things. For example, the very first thing in the Opening Post (OP) of the CM thread says:
IMPORTANT: Be sure your baseband is up to date or this will fail to flash!
Click to collapse
If you would have read that and gone to the link (not present in the quote above, go to the actual thread for that) we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!! If you go to the thread and read about the last 10 pages (or at least scan them) you will find any problems with the current build and usually how to fix them or avoid them. In your case you will find out about boot stacks and which one you should have installed to flash this rom.
Lots of people will help you but do those people a favor and try and help yourself first. Thanks.
Ok, thank you to all of you who helped me, I have truly appreciated all of your advice. An update: successfully flashed modem and installed CM 12.1. I am now on Lollipop with CyanogenMod, which was the ultimate goal. Thanks again!

Any news about TWRP?

So I'm running on 35b and was wondering if there was any official release for TWRP that supports the 35b update?
2.8.7.0 works 100% for me on 35B. I'm guessing you mean some way to install it from a freshly rooted 35B, maybe? That doesn't require any changes on TWRP's end, but I don't know what it takes since I've only installed TWRP from 10B, 12B, 23C and 24B, and with especially 23C and 24B, it has to be done a special way and the autorec apps automate this.
How do i install twrp on it then? Cause twrp manager does it and when it boots it does an error of the whole secure boot or something like that.
I haven't looked into it.
The problem you encountered is why the autorec apps I mentioned are so handy. I'm very sure we can replicate what they do manually, I just forget or never knew what else is necessary besides actually installing TWRP itself.
I haven't investigated if he's provided an updated version for 35B.
I find it easiest to downgrade to 10B, root and in that case TWRP Manager works fine, then flash a rooted stock ROM.

I don't think you can just Flashify TWRP, at least starting with 23C Lollipop. You'll get a secure boot error.
See i had the thought of that too but i figured twrp hasnt updated for 35B so im just waiting on autorec or someone to find a way to do it. This is why having a laptop with a dead harddrive sucks

I'm not trying to be picky but it's confusing when you say TWRP hasn't been updated for 35B. TWRP doesn't need updated. A method to install it, yes, sure that needs updated. I know what you mean now in this thread, but if you say something like that in another thread it'll just lead to more confusion.

Yes, as long as it's the whole .kdz image and not the update it will do a complete wipe of your phone to factory.

RS988 KDZ or TOT pre v11c download that works

Does anyone have a firmware link for the RS988....im looking for pre V11C files.
I'd be willing to give you a tip for it!
Jesus, are you there?

None of those are pre 11c. I can not say that those files even exist except for at LG and they never released anything besides 11c kdz for the USA rs988. Even so i don't think you could flash without bricking your phone because the anti roll back number for those is 0 and anything 11c and up has anti roll back of 1.

Ah sry i misread it thought was asking for 11c kdz
I flashed the RS98810d_00_0716_ARB01.kdz from that link and then proceeded to flash back to 11C from that link and then updated to 11D and stopped since I wanted to remain on Marshmallow for Xposed. However I wouldn't want to remain on 10D since it is Brightpoint and not what you want to be on with a non-brightpoint phone. Why are you wanting to be below 11C? You can't unlock and root your phone unless you are on 11D.
