Sony Xperia Z4v announced today - Xperia Z3v General

Everything of the Z4/Z3+ around the world, but a bit chubbier packing 3000 mah and comes with QHD. Most likely comes with lollipop already.
You guys think there'll be overheating issues still after the patch update Sony sends out next month? Thoughts on this overall?

Wouldn't a firmware patch just throttle the full capabilities of the processor? Kind of defeats the purpose of having such a fast processor.

this is so messed up for Sony. Verizon called it z4v, sony called it z3+, its called z4 in Japan. I have no idea what is there marketing strategy. So stupid

I agree. I just upgraded to a z3v from galaxy s4 the other day. I was going to hold out for the z3+/z4 but i decided it wasnt worth the wait.

Yeah, they definitely should reorganize what their latest marketing strategy is. The Z4v is technically a different phone on its own, especially running Quad HD unlike any of the previous Sony phones.

I upgraded from a Galaxy S3 to the Z3v and I never look back for any Samsung phones. Sure, the Galaxy S6 really take amazing photos. The photos I take with my phone is capturing moments that's something I see for myself for only once to happen at that time, not for comparisons anyway. What makes me interested in the latest handset from Sony that I would like to add onto mine is simply the front facing and back facing cameras, and just the body. Everything else is perfectly fine.

The new camera on the Z4V is the exact same camera that's on the Z3V. At least the sensor is the same...

Except the front facing camera. 5MP sensor, and that means I don't have to stick my arms all the way out to take a good selfie. lol

Can you believe that, read it this morning. Lollipop 5.1.1, I bet too.
We can't get lollipop from VZW even if we make VZW a baby in a stroller.

QHD display would have been nice but not necessary. Same with the extra RAM. The processor is the one thing I would have really liked to have but again, this phone seems powerful enough without it.
Yes I would have liked to have the latest and greatest but my RAZR HD was pissing me off beyond belief from lag, to camera, to apps no longer working right, to just being out dated that I had to get a new phone. Don't like Samsung and wanted a memory card as well as good stereo front speakers so it was this or the M9. After seeing there was no real visible improvement on the M9 and this is "waterproof" I'm very happy with my decision. Not even worried about a Z4 whatever.
Side note, I just got this phone in March and am mad I didn't get it at launch. Even without root it was a darn good phone! Obviously better now with root.

At this point I don't even care for LP anymore from the memory leaks to Google taking their sweet time to fix issues, I'll stick with my rooted KK. I think this news pretty much seals we won't see LP for awhile if at all.

Japanese users are already reporting overheating issues.
As much as I want RAW capability and even better battery life, rooted KK is pretty good as it is. Don't need Lollipop enough to upgrade...or would that be downgrade?

While I prefer many things about my Z3v, I picked up a GS6 and I absolutely love being able to use visual voicemail even while attached to Wifi...I love dialing someone from my car bluetooth and having it call the person I chose as opposed to some random person from my address book...oh and I have already used VoLTE twice (although it didn't work once for some reason). I don't care about Lollipop so much as all the Z3v features that simply do not work...

I don't think anybody will be upgrading from the z3. z2 maybe

But the Z4 is new and has one number higher than our phone, it must be better, faster, because of that one number higher.

I have seen two places that have had a hands on the Z4v, but neither of them said anything about overheating issues yet. I'm quite interested in seeing if the slightly different build and whatever Verizon did to the phone is helping it.

I'm most likely switching over from Tmobile to Verizon soon, and am just waiting for the Z4v, my mom got the Z3v, and it is a nice phone, once I saw Z4v with it's WQHD and quick charge 2.0 I knew I had to wait, it will be a big upgrade for me from the Z1s ( talk about terrible viewing angles and speakers) i have on tmobile , since i could probably review both, i can most likely see which is better (again if i decide to get this phone which I might since i'm liking sony devices so far). One thing bugging me is the white pages on these devices on waterproofing it seems Z4v can't be fully submerged?! also surprising how they released the white papers even though the phone itself isn't released yet

I'm pretty sure you can submerge the Z4v underwater, it's just that anything of high elements (like seawater) may erode the capless USB and cause problems. The whole chlorinated water deal though is kind of a weirder thing since if I pretty much do anything water with my phone, it's just going swimming with it. lol

Now Android M is being loaded onto other Sony Z versions, we got robbed again by Verizon and the locked bootloader. http://phandroid.com/2015/06/22/android-m-developer-preview-sony-xperia/

Both phones have the same water proof rating. If you look closely, the z3/z3v had the same warnings on salt water and chlorine. Main problem with salt water is that it shorts the outside contacts and if not properly dried can lead to corrosion. Take our phone into the ocean and you'll get headphones connected pop ups since the phone detects a connection in the plug. You don't need much to prevent water from getting in there, a small piece of tape was enough for me. My guess is that with the open usb port you may see similar issues.

[Q] Ultra ruined.

Hi Everyone,
So I was on holiday with my beloved Ultra, and using it in the pool. Cool thing is, this phone is waterproof! That's what I thought until I got on the plane a few hours later and upon trying to use my phablet the touch screen stopped responding. It seemed to function OK, I just couldn't unlock it or use it as there was some kind of hyperactive spectre flying around inside making it seem like the touchscreen was possessed. I looked a little closer, and not only was there condensation visible in both camera lenses, but upon opening the usb cover there was also moisture inside there. I opened the other side, and the moisture indicator was still white, so I think the problem was specifically with the usb port cover.
Anyway, it's not covered under any kind of warranty as I bought it overseas, and I have taken it to a repair shop who confirmed that it's water damaged and that they would need to fix the damaged USB port and replace the screen to make it work again. I just want to buy a new one as it would be cheaper than getting it fixed, but I have some data/apps on the old one I don't want to lose. Any suggestions on the best approach? If the shop can read the eMMC and back it up, could I use that to restore data/apps onto a new phone, or am I better off just getting it fixed...
Advice/opinions appreciated.
it's a marketing trick. they are not actually waterproof.
I guess this guy's luck was bad. Mine had contact with water a couple of times and thankfully it lived upto its waterproofness promise

This is a stupid reply. I brought it with me in the pool with my kids, made photos and videos underwater (touch block + volume rocker), no problems at all.
Same goes with my wife's Z.
Of course, if you go swimming with the USB flap open, well, you're an idiot. (Not that I accuse OP of being one, just that 80% of the time when I saw someone with a faulty phone/laptop/tablet it was not working because of THEM).

Hopefully someone replies with some advice that is actually helpful... FYI I have used it in the pool (and had it underwater) multiple times before without problems. I always make sure the seals are sitting properly when I close them so I am doubtful it was user error...
The usb port is fully brpken?
I think it's corroded, but definitey doesn't work.

good for you, you were lucky. on the xperia forums and on here, there are many MANY people who had their phones damaged from water. Are ALL of them at fault?
however, call sony and ask them (i did):
1) what *guarantee* is there that with the flaps closed the phone will not receive water damage? they will answer none. There is no case where the warranty will cover water damage. Whether it's your fault or the phone's fault, it is irrelevant to sony. they will NOT cover it.
2) what happens if, after *normal use*... notice this: *normal use*, NOT abuse, the flaps lose their sealing ability? Does the warranty cover it? No. Warranty does NOT cover "normal use wear". Which means the flaps WILL lose their sealing ability and you end up with a non-waterproof phone. How soon? NOONE KNOWS because there is no way to actually TEST it, at least not as a USER. You MIGHT be able to have it tested at sony... but that would mean testing it every. single. time. you close any of the flaps...
your phone, at any given point, MAY or MAY NOT be waterproof. However, since you have no way to test it, it means that you CAN NOT TRUST it to be waterproof, which is, of course, means you have to treat it as NOT waterproof.
which, in the end, means the phone is not waterproof.
as a sidenote, keep any and all profanities to yourself
Blah blah. The phone is waterproof. No need to be all technical and stuff. Can it be used in water for a certain period of time? Yes.
Your post reminds me of when ships were first being built. If a boat ends up sinking from wear and tear does that mean it wasn't a floating device? Also wear and tear....that's why we check our cars at a set time for periodic maintenance because of wear and tear.
I got lax with mine and took it in the shower and got water in it, USB flap is worn. Not the companies, because I didn't take the necessary steps to make sure my phone was periodically maintained.
Just my 2 cents...

I brought a oneplus one :(

Hey guys, I love the xperia z2. Absolutely brilliant phone. But I have, unfortunately had problems ( just like I did with my z ultra )
So I decided to buy a one plus one, I'll still keep my z2 for sure and decide which is better suited for me
Has anyone else thought about getting the opo yet?

dont have huge flaws nor pros
unlike xperias with their damn heating issues or manufacturing
one+one as far as ive experianced are flawless
In pretty excited to get it to be honest. The camera looks amazing and they said that when android L comes out they'll have a stable version for the opo within 90 unlike Sony who don't say anything

There are a lot of problems with the OPO. I have already purchased 5 of them, and I don't have one left.
-All 5 had a terrible yellow band at the bottom of the screen.
-Half of them had touchscreen problems (something to do with poor grounding, so when placed on a conductive material the phones touchscreen malfunctions).
-A couple of them came with chipped and nicked bezels.
-All of them had extremely low call volume with both earpiece and speakerphone
-Back Sandstone cover inconsistent between devices, scratches and chips so easily.
Regarding the 90 update policy: Please keep in mind they are running CyanogenMod, which you can run on your Z2, and which will likely be out with Android L sooner than 90 days. You can't compare a CyanogenMod ROM release to an Xperia ROM release.
Be careful because I tried to RMA all of my devices for one or more of the problems listed above, and it took near two weeks to even get a reply. After another week of dialogue they declined all of my RMA's. I have since sold the phones at a loss and I will never deal with them again.
I can safely say that the camera on the Z2 is far superior to the OPO's from the pictures I've take with both devices.
Lastly, there are two speakers on the OPO like most modern phones, however their speakers are MONO and not STEREO.

Wow, bro. Whomever comes to me and says One Plus One is the best smartphone so far, I'll show them this post. I was starting to think if this One Plus One is better than my beloved Sony Xperia Z2, aswell. Now after reading this post, I'm relieved.
And yeah, they're using CyanogedMod, we're using our own awesome ROM specially engineered by Sony. So this means when our Android L version comes out, it'll surely beat the hell out of their Android L version ROM.

Yeah do some research before you buy it, the moderators on the OP forum are doing their best to bury the "problem" threads. It's sad, I posted multiple threads to create awareness about the problems with my phones, and I was banned from the forum for "spreading conspiracy"!
A co-worker of mine just sold off his OPO and stuck with his Samsung phone instead
The Back sandstone cover or whatever it's referred to is definitely a turn-off on that phone. It already had slight wear/chipping on the corners from being placed in the packaging- a big indication that the back will wear out over time and look awful without a case. Before even powering it on, he opted to sell it off and get his money back.
Have no issues with my Z2 here, overheating or build quality

My Z2 has been fantastic thus far as well. I tried five times with five brand new OPO's and was completely unsatisfied every time.
I got both and I dunno what you guys are on about?
I got a find 7a aside from my z2. The find 7a in my country comes with a carbon fiber back plate. The phone feels rock solid, there are no chips or dings and the screen is brilliant! Personally I use the OPPO more than my Z2.one awesome phone

I've had 5 Opo's to date and still have one, the rest were gifts to others. I have had no issues that required RMA. Yellowing issue at bottom of the screen: not everyone phone has and has been resolved with updates. Low call volume: until recently, has been an issue with every official CM ROM. Recent software updates have cured this. Touchscreen issues: again, not on everyone and they have been remedied as well. In all of the Opo's I have owned the back cover has been the same, I have not had a problem with that. Why would someone want an Opo over a Z2? Easy, $$$. The Opo costs $363 brand new, shipped. Considerably less than an also brand new Z2. Also, thee customization options are what make the Opo amazing. The camera is indeed better on the Z2, appreciably so. However, again, with recent software updates the Opo's camera is very good and certainly capable of meeting and exceeding most peoples needs. I own both phones and don't have a favorite necessarily because while I can say the Z2 is the better overall phone I do know it's 1. subjective and 2. comes at a substantial cost increase over the Opo. Every manufacturer ships phones worthy of RMA repairs, but Opo is the only company smart/dumb enough to create a forum before the phone was even out giving people time to fester, stew over and discuss said issues after waiting weeks for their phone.
I own a OnePlus. It's sitting beside me collecting dust. It's garbage. Cheap hardware, covered up by cm work arounds to create an Illusion of a high end device. Too many bugs, horrible customer service, and no transparency from the company. They lie, and mislead their customers. They bury any sort of negativity in their forums regardless of validity. I will never buy any OnePlus phone ever. I'm just lucky I won this piece of crap sitting beside me instead of investing any money into it. That company will most likely fail anyways.

I haven't had the chance to try the one plus one, but when it first came out I was really pumped! But now that I got the Z2, I haven't thought about it twice. But I am trying to figure out if I'm having a problem or not with my device... The sound in call sounds tinny and noisy... But not via loudspeaker. Only in call via the internal speaker... Hopefully I can fix it. Other than that, what a wonderful phone
I purchased a One plus one and had quality issues as well. I didn't have the yellow banding along the bottom but definitely nicks on the chrome bezel....made it look really cheap. The phone would become unresponsive all the time. The accelerometer was buggy and wouldn't switch from landscape to portrait without a little extra shaking. Just not to my liking. Customer support was ****e so I sold the phone on craigslist for a profit and purchased another one. Same niggling issues so I sold that one to another eager buyer for another tiny profit and decided that if I was getting bored of my Z2 I should just switch colors....so now I own a white one and love it all over again, lol.

Serious error!

I have the same problem with my phone. So basically i have a white brick now. It works when your not doing anything with it. But trying to use facebook, chrome or any other app the screen stops working.

Unfortunately, the consistency of the reports on the lag, slowness, touch issues and the blurry left corner camera problem, made me decide not to buy this phone anymore. Terribly sad, as I love the compacts.

Unfortunately, the consistency of the reports on the lag, slowness, touch issues and the blurry left corner camera problem, made me decide not to buy this phone anymore. Terribly sad, as I love the compacts.

Wait till Sony delivers.
My only issue with the Z5C is some very rare stutter, else i am really satisfied with it.
The situation should improve with some incoming software updates.
let's be honest - 90% of normal users wont even care about those issues. i can best sony is aware about those issues and will fix this in the next upgrade. sony would be stupid company to admit that they have released phone with some issues.
this is unfortunately how everyone are making phones now - i am fed up with all those bend, blur, melt gates and will use my phone as a phone with nice camera and not for using it as my work tool

Sony is not a good company, they are unethical and would rather endanger people than fix an issue they were even told about before they used the 810 processor.
I know this is a bit late and all, but well done on the choice not to get a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, not only is the device flaw filled, but the Sony Support will blame anyone but themselves, what happened to me is i got a new Z5c which was to replace my Z1c which was an amazing phone, and i noticed from the start the phone was hotter when running, with each new OS / FW update the problem seemed to get worse and worse, after 2 weeks there was the first big update, i think its the next android version as the file was 1GB, less than a week later, after leaving my Z5c on my bed not even charging while i went to the shops, i returned to find the rear glass cracked, just above where the CPU is situated, i contacted Sony Support, and they said that since there was not only 1 crack (there is a whole shatter patern inline with the NFC but on the opposite side of the camera, it is what looks like from the side cover, but there is not even a mark / scratch / piece of dust on it so how, especially when its a flat side part, you cant crack glass say 1/3 down hitting the side panel.) it was not their issue. They also said that phones do get hot and that i must not use it while it charges. then the next issue, the heat, after about a month since the glass cracked the phone was getting so hot i could not keep it in my pocket, which i am sure is too hot, and since all this has happened the battery life seems to be getting less and less very quickly no matter how i charge or if i even run a battery calibration, i googled the issues and saw so many others with the issues, and so i have now gone the legal route, since my 3 month old phone Sony has informed me must go into a Repair Center and they cant give me a phone to use while it is in.
Another scary issue, is when the glass is cracked, people think it is still waterproof, IT IS NOT, THE CRACK MAKES YOUR PHONE NOT WATERPROOF, so be careful with it if the glass is cracked.
I think Sony needs to do the right thing and recall this model, the heat issue they "solved" by throttling the CPU, throttling the CPU means i am not getting the CPU speed as advertised which means false advertising as well. They say it was just a FW fix for now, but i cant see with the damage this has caused already, the FW throttling being taken away, MEANING THE PHONE IS NOT THE SPEC AS ADVERTISED, which is false advertising and means i am not getting what i paid for. So its wrong and also ILLEGAL.
Just my review, it seems like a very nice phone, if you are not worried about shattered glass in your ear or waking up an your house is on fire cause the phone got too hot.

Still worth getting?

Hey guys, friendly, neighborhood, T-Mo Sony (Z3) enthusiast here. Congrats on the Lollipop!
So, the wife and I have been going back and forth over her wanting to leave for Verizon (because, she suffers from unreliable reliability?). Between my bias for Sony and T-mo's features (I listen to music all day at work w/o data restrictions), I'm reluctant to leave. (Note: the back has started to peel off so I'm on borrowed time with this Z anyway)
If I WERE to leave, I can't tell if Sony/Verizon relations have deteriorated after the Z4v debacle where they won't get the X, or if I should look at the Nexus 6P, the new LG, or the :shivers: S7 Edge (I've been avoiding Samsung, but that VR tho). I'm afraid of both, getting stuck with Verizon and without a new Sony phone for a while (or forever?).
A few days back, I'd told the Mrs. I could cheaply get a Z3v online but then read the complaints on these forums and backed up/out. You wouldn't believe the eye-roll I got when I said I might look at the Z again after the update, lol. So what do y'all say? Is it worth staying in the Sony ecosystem (I rarely use but enjoy the PS4 connectivity), should I look at other Verizon phones, or just stick with T-Mo and get the X later?
Thanks for reading.

It really depends on what you're looking for. The Galaxy S7 is hailing great remarks because it's now very refined in its premium body, expandable storage and waterproofing returns. For the average consumer nowadays, they just want the latest and greatest tech.
It's impossible to really tell if Sony isn't going to release anymore phones Verizon. The chances are highly slim, but who knows what they have in store about the new X series. So you may grab this phone for cheap on eBay, but you're only going to get as far as you can in playing around and customizing to an extent until it gets a bootloader unlock. I don't know if you're interested in that, but that's it now for a phone that Verizon isn't going to do much more for it.
Be aware that the USB door has problems with seal tearing, and camera in camera/video mode will overheat in hotter ambient temperatures (sometimes for no reason) and shut down, other than that nice phone.
Like the rest, don't see the Z3v getting anything past Lollipop unless it gets an unlocked bootloader, although some articles say it will see Marshmallow.
Flaps aren't a issue with the z3v because you can just wirelessly charge. Limiting wear on them. And yes I think add of right now this phone will easily hold me over another year. I'll see about the X when it comes out.

I'm getting close to just pulling the trigger on the Z3v. I figure, its cheap enough that if something miraculous happens between Sony and Verizon, OR if Sony's next phones DON'T accommodate CDMA, it won't feel like such a financial hit if I move on, in either direction.
Now, I just have to find a good, clean, reliable version of this device. ...And possibly some way to cover that obnoxious "Verizon" logo up top.

It's a great phone, nonetheless. For how undervalued this phone is priced at, it's a great buy for a compatible phone the largest network in the US and it's a flagship spec phone from 2014, not some midrange phone.

Yea, that's the message I'm getting here in the forums. My wife is dumbfounded at my love of Sony. But she'll be pleased when my Z3v comes in the mail, later today(!)...
The sacrifices I make, amirite?

I have a cheap wireless charger ($10) from Amazon, so I never open the flap for charging. OBVIOUSLY, opening and closing the rubber flap every day is going to wear it out. Because it's . . .
-rubber.
I have a high end (as fast as Sandisk currently makes) 200GB micro SD in both of my z3vs. I have the rooted lollipop release from this site (with brighter led thanks to GigaSPX), which gives me a great variety of customization options (Xposed framework), VIPER4Android FX for INCREDIBLE sound customization, enabled the internal FM radio, updated camera (which I don't recommend yet until it's refined better), etc...
But no matter what, people seem to always want more. I liken that mentality to people camping out in cities at Apple stores awaiting the iPhone 5c. What a let-down THAT was. LOL!
This phone is an incredible device on it's own merit, in both capabilities and craftsmanship. Add just a few tweaks via root, and it serves as the penultimate "best bang for the buck" phone out there.
I got my first one on contract (line renewal) for just $99. It sat there, unloved, unattended, while people were surrounding the iPhone 6s like it was the second coming of Christ or something. I went home and did my research, and I went back the very next day and got it. I bought a second one off Amazon recently for over $300 (NIB) because to me, an average cost of $200 is still a bargain for the z3v (rooted w/ Lollipop, that is). Add 200GB to each one for an additional 100 bucks each, and still, for an average cost of $300, this phone is amazing.
Is the z3v still worth getting? IMO, Yes. Look at the hardware specs plus the camera. If you can pick one up for $250-300, add 200GB to it for $100 (Amazon), root it and upgrade to Lollipop, and pledge a few bucks to encourage complete unlock for custom ROM development, it's still a fantastic deal.
HIGHLY recommend a wireless charger to keep the flaps water tight.
A big downer is the lack of case choices out there. No argument there.
Yeah, I got one (refurbished) coming sometime today, along with the Incipio case, Sony's wireless portable charging pad, and an Illumisheild. I already have a 64gb micro SD, but maybe I'll look into a larger one. Its been a while since I've done any rooting or whatever on my own, so I might wait a bit. Seems like more than enough to hold me over 'til the next best thing from Sony drops. Its honestly a lateral move from my T-Mo Z3. I'm gaining wireless charging and I'll have yet to see if the T-mo treats (unlimited data, free music streaming, wifi router) will be missed.

Rear Camera 'vibrating' defect

This is a PSA for anyone who uses their HTC 10 on a car, truck, motorcycle, or any place where there is vibration. Some part of the camera mechanism (the camera, laser sensor, or something else) fails after being used around a lot of vibration. The front camera is fine, and I've removed the gel cover/protector and cleaned all the surfaces. I don't use the camera a lot, so it's not from overuse.
The image shown on the screen is what you would see if you taped it to the shaking machine used at paint stores. There is an audible vibrating sound and feeling from the top of the phone by the camera and not from the bottom where the real vibration unit is.
This is now the second phone that has died like this. I did some research and this has happened to other HTC phones. Such a disappointment that they didn’t test the device thoroughly enough. It's still basically new, so I'm not taking it apart to see what's going on inside. I'll take it back to Verizon and demand a new unit on the spot and not have to wait for another remanufactured POS to be sent.
LOL..umm..yeah.I believe this phone also fails if used under water, near molten lava, and will succumb to repeated hammer abuse.lol
Though I agree with you that if there's a failure while using it on a motorcycle mount it certainly deserves a warranty replacement...I don't think taping it to a mechanical paint can shaker can be used as evidence of a design defect. No normal person uses their phone taped to a paint shaker.
I may be wrong, but I imagine that scenario causing WAY more vibration than using it on a motorcycle phone mount.
This is totally the ois. Optical image stabilization uses very small motor movements of the optical assembly to maintain focus. Understandable it has a limit and can be hosed by excessive vibration. Also very possible that the op had a defective one. Read up on the iPhone 6+ and their ois failures that affected a large number of phones.

I've used 4 phones on a motorcycle mount and the 10 is the only device to fail twice.
The paint shaker was an example of what the screen shows after failing, not as an example of a clearly abusive use case. Sarcasm and no contribution to the dialog really doesn’t help.
The knowledge of cameras and the ois is helpful; thank you for providing a beneficial reference for more reading.

True...I apologize for the sarcasm...and dottat is on point as always. But your initial post when literally read didn't say your phone camera failed due to your use of it on a motorcycle/truck/car mount...you simply issued a warning for those who might use it in that manner and about using it around a lot of vibration based on your tests of it failing on a paint shaker...lol
From the initial read of your post I took it as you were crying wolf which is even less useful than funny sarcasm in the world.
But I will certainly refrain from using it this way in my car and stick with hot spotting my 10 and let my M8 or ipad mini take the abuse while Wazing etc.
Handshake. I'll own that I was vague on the specific use case because of what my ex-wife would call paranoia that my carrier was watching the posts and deny claims to any moron using a paint mixing machine on his motorcycle
Perhaps some levity... ever wonder what would happen to that mounted phone if the wind force also identified a weak connection between the backplate and top of the mount "pole"? Never happened to me, but do the math on that one.
I solved the camera problem and did the math on the phone flying off the bike at California highway speeds last night in 3 words "there it goes..."
The camera got fixed by a new phone being ordered through Asurion, and the math is $150 (insurance deductible) + $100 for new SanDisk Extreme Plus 128gb SD card + $40 for my third Sunshine mailing + $60 for a new cradle, gummy body shell, and TechGlass Skinomi screen protector. $340 is the answer. Oh, add several hours to figure out how to dampen vibrations.
Until then, it's back to the best phone I've had in years and still like better than the 10, the G3. If LG makes a new version later this year that's close and gets unlocked, the 10 will be gone in minutes. Oh, the camera works fine on the G3 with 10k miles on it.

Sunshine no longer requires mail in. Why not just warranty it through HTC for free? They have an advanced replacement option.

It's a direct from Verizon phone. They were giving $300 in discounts and free anything in the store so I got it from them.
Great to know Sunshine got Verizon versions into the app. That team isn't just guru developers, they are amazingly cool and supportive folks. JCase went well beyond the call to help me.

OK. You got me confused because it sounded like you paid for a warranty phone through assurion on a phone HTC should have warranted.

Sorry for the wording. I'm looking forward to getting the 10 now because it's sound and processing power are great. I do have to say my G3 is still my favorite and I tried Fulmics rom and it's an amazing piece of work. If LeeDroid, Viper, or another builds such an amazing version of the stock rom, the 10 will be unbelievably good. I'll stop now because I'm guilty of taking this way off topic.

You can get Leedroid over in the regular HTC 10 forum. His rom will flash to Verizon. The last time I flashed it though there was a data roaming bug if your phone was on 3g.

The new 10 is up and running. I am getting a fixed mount that will eliminate the "how about a new phone right NOW" problem. I'm researching a different cradle that has equal holding grip and also some damping capability. The motorcycle forums cover that topic. The hardware version is still 0001 (after 3 of them).
The camera on phone #3 is broken after just 2 days of commuting with it in my jacket which is the equivalent of a what someone who rides a bicycle would do. I don't care what anyone says, this phone has inferior camera sensors. If you have an active lifestyle, stay away. I so want it to work, but after 3 phones, it has proven my original statement.
As soon as an equivalent phone hits the market and is unlocked/rooted, I'm jumping ship.

Don't get a phone with ois. Something you are doing doesn't agree with it. Hell I fly airplanes and film video while in them with my phone and still am on phone number 1. I run half marathons with the thing in a pouch with sweat all over it and no problems.
Whatever you are doing is pissing off ois something crazy.

No argument, this is is a pocket only device for me. Easy to Hotspot to the 4 bulletproof Flo's I have.
I had a long conversation with my carrier yesterday and I'm being sent a new one as a mfg defect (fact, not opinion). Again, not arguing I need to treat this phone more carefully, but my problem was not the first. Out of respect for the positive discussion here, I'll just say I hope HTC is able to make a firmware or hardware revision to reduce the chances of this particular issue.
I've always liked HTC and there is some of the best and brightest Android minds doing awesome work on this phone and I don't want to discourage anyone from jumping on board.

New phone was a new, in box model, but the build still says 0001, so HTC is still on the first parts build (I'd that field in settings is accurate).
I ordered mounting hardware from Adaptive Technologies because they were the only company who marketed specific vibration reduction design. We'll see.

The funny thing is they don't really increment the hardware version even if they use different displays etc. I wouldn't put much weight in that number at all.
Thanks for this thread. I am a new motorcycle rider and my HTC 10 lasted about 4 months of motorcycle riding. I replaced it because it has a battery issue and a broken vibrate motor. My new 10 lasted about a month of motorcycle use. I thought it was a software or firmware issue.
Here is a video link of what the camera does. After the pics fails.
If anybody knows how to disable ois I would loo very to hear it.
