Anyhow i bought a Timmy E86 . Its pretty cheap but pretty good apart from the GPS
It has the mediatek 6582 chip.
Ive been through just about every mediatek gps fix.

When i got the phone GPS signal was non existant. even after using many different gps fix apps.
I then discoverd that without the cover on and the antenna peeled back i managed to get signal, put cover back on and signal goes. So the cover is blocking signal.
I extended the antenna with a make shift foil antenna, which improved the signal slightly and allowed signal with the cover on. Great thinking its fixed, however navigation was terrible, loosing signal and the heading facing wrong way.
Then it lost all signal again after a restart and woukldnt get signal again randomly until smoe while later. Satilites show but zero signal.
The antenna is rubbish on this phone,
I know this is probably the main source of the problem, i plan on remove the case cleaning the contacts and installing a better antenna, either made of copper tape or perhaps something else.
But im pretty sure theres something else wrong deeper down in the software.
I done some further testing yesterday managed to get gps signal and 3d fix. Since i was being a passanger rather than driver i could see what was gong on. as soon as we started moving the satilite signals would drop to 0.....

Finally tracked the issue down to really poor GPS antenna.
Remoived it, replaced it with bare copper wire from a power cord , made sure it was well twisted so all the strands were together and neat.
Used the end of the GPS antanna that contacted the board and soldered it to the the pad of the old gps antanne end, so that when the case went back in it contacted the board pin.
Success. GPS lock indoors at a window and still picking up satilites away from window but not enough for lock.
Until i screwed everything back together and tried to put the back on, the cable was too thick and it pushed the board. GPS signal no longer works.
Even tried replacing with thinner cable and solering direct to board but same result. satalites in view but no signal, not even outside now.
Guess ive either burned out the gps somewhere or something on the board got damaged from the cable pushing on it. Even removed the SMD contact pin and soldered wire directly onto the board. Still nothing

Given up on getting this to work. either ive broken something in the gps or the phones setup has went iffy.
Satilites are apparently in view but dont ever get a signal from any, all 12 satalites sit there with zero signal even outdoors.
The easy solution?
Use my old phone that can get a lock inside next to a window as a bluetooth GPS reciever. Using Bluetooth GPS output, and then the bluetooth GPS app on my timmy phone.
Result? Perfect navigation using Tom Tom GO. This is actually a much better solution since the phones GPS is off its using much less power. My old phone is an alcatel one touch which is pretty good for battery even with gps on plus with the screen off doesnt need charged while using it for hours as gps+bluetooth.
Another advantage, i can have a gps app open on old phone for speed and have a GPS speedometer running while navagation running on my larger timmy e86.
My recomendation is just get a bluetooth GPS reciever if your gps sucks.

I'm thoroughly baffled here .... can anyone help please ? ... it's a long post I'm afraid, since I want to include all the info I can.
recently my beloved Legend suddenly decided it has no signal .. I get 'limited service' and the dreaded red 'X' all the time.
prior to this I had done no changes to phone nor had back cover off or taken the sim out. I have upgraded it to Blayos rom and all has been fine.
after some searching I discovered all the advice re bad antenna and a so called fix by shorting some terminals with a piece of wire.
(exactly which terminals was not made too clear though)
I am not sure though that I actually do have a bad antenna as I have cleaned the 2 under the bottom cover and 'lifted' the mating contacts ...
and have done the same with those under the camera cover.
one other thing I did was to circuit test all the 6 contacts in my phone, and they all 'ring out' ok ...
indeed they all ring out to each other, even with covers off, which suggests to me that there is a good circuit in the phone
still no service, but my GPS gets a lock pretty quickly, does it use the same antenna setup ? ...
I'm not even sure if it does really as I have read that phone will not work with bottom cover off, yet my GPS certainly does !
lastly I doubt it is the sim as it works fine in my wife's phone, but her's does not in mine.
over 190 viewings and no suggestions ...anyone please ?
in desperation I have changed my Radio from 7.13.35.05 to 7.13.35. 13 and got no improvement
Last act of desperation would be returning to stock...
If your not on airplane mode all the time I doubt this is a software issue.

Please let me know if any of you have had a similar experience or know of a way to fix these issues permanently short of getting a new phone? I can't afford to get a new one, especially since I need this soon for a trip and I don't have the time. All the other services work fine, it's just really annoying because I use the GPS often and it's inconvenient when I don't know when I can actually use my phone at all
I've owned and used an HTC Rezound without trouble for the past two years and now, suddenly, I'm having a couple major issues. First, the USB port on the phone has a loose connection (it's an extmicro usb for whatever reason). I know because it would not charge the phone unless I jiggle the male end around until the amber light showed up and even then, it would occasionally drain in stead of charge the battery. It has nothing to do with how clean the port is either because I cleaned it already and it did improve slightly. After I've been dealing with this for a couple days (I've gotten it to charge up the phone to be useful most of the time), the GPS started to have trouble connecting. At first it was ok after I turned the switch off then on, but then the day after it never found any signal. I mean leaving it on for hours never getting a signal from anything in places where it used to lock on very quickly. I've tried restarting, turning off any other GPS services (google's and verizon's), clearing google map cache, uninstalling google maps, clearing the (apparently nonexistant) A-GPS cache, downloading GPS status, and tightening the screws on the inside cover (I know that fix is not for this phone, but it was worth a shot), and combinations thereof.

My boss had the issue with charging port. It was a loose connection on the board, if you are comfortable, use a tiny bit of solder to strengthen the connection again. That fixed it for him. Another fix is utilize the expanded wireless charging option (have to buy the special connector to have it work).
Another fix is buy the laza batteries and external battery charger, I Did that to make less stress on the charging port. I got two OEM size 1590mah batteries and charger for $20 off Amazon. Once one goes down below ~30% I switch to the other battery. The external charger takes about 3-4hrs to fully charge a near dead 1590 battery.

Thank you, Uzephi, I'll try fixing the connection. Also, I swapped batteries with another working rezound and my phone turned on with the charged one, but the other phone wouldn't take a charge. So that might mean the battery is dead. I'm ordering a new battery just to make sure it's not that too, but I feel like the port is majorly at fault. It doesn't make sense that the battery's health would depend on the position of the charging port.
I'm still puzzled about the GPS, though.
Ok... so I opened up the phone and tried finding a loose connection with a voltmeter/ohmmeter, but it appears the the problem is inside the housing of the usb port. I can't get in there easily without breaking stuff, at least to my knowledge. Does anybody have some suggestions? Uzephi, where exactly did your boss do the soldering? Even if I were to solder the outside connections, they are so close together it is easy to make a short.

I had the same problem with the charging port. Started just like you said and eventually it went out completely. No longer charges at all. Now having to use external charger and swap batteries all the time. Really sucks (for me and the rom). Tried to find someway or someone to replace it but no one would touch it. Apparently Htc didn't figure in the fact that they're charging port wouldn't hold up and made it near impossible to repair. Sorry, i know this doesn't help but just wanted to share my similar experience with the battery. Sort of a, abandon all hope, situation.
On the Rezound, the USB charging port is replaceable. The terminals slide into a connector, and then the tabs on the USB assembly are soldered to the board. Not really hard to replace if you are know how. I believe you can find a youtube video on the replacement. Best way to remove the broken port is using a small tip on a heat gun applying no more heat then necessary so that the solder tabs on the board are not loosened. Part:

Your problem with the GPS is probably the same as mine. Google pushed out a new maps program that got rid of the Navigation shortcut. The new Navigation works altogether different now. You have to get into Maps to get to Navigation. Honestly, I could not even get it to work, so I and many other people have gone into settings and removed the updates from the Maps program. It now works the old way, but all of the updates that made Maps and Navigation stable are now gone. Now it is a pain in the butt because it takes forever for the GPS to find a signal, and sometime it does not.
I have been going to look on the forum to see if anyone has a way to go back to the Maps/with Navigation before Google screwed it all up.
I have the charging port issue. My workaround was to buy the wireless charging back from Verizon ($40 - 25% corporate discount for me = $30) and a Qi wireless charging plate (which goes for pretty cheap these days). That setup has worked quite well for me.
For the GPS issues, make sure you're on the latest firmware. I used to have the GPS drop out all the time on older firmware versions, but with the latest global OTA I have no complaints.

I did end up getting an external battery charger, but I tried re-soldering the connections to the motherboard first, as I noticed under a microscope that the connections were almost free-floating. The soldering worked like a charm, but the real issue was that the housing had become loose enough to put strain on the connections. So, after a while of the port working again, it started the breakdown cycle again. By then, I had tried finding port replacements, but I could only find bulk orders of the things, costing much more than a $10 external charger + extra battery.
As for the GPS, I tried downloading a GPS assist and if I use that before I turn on the GPS, I get much better results. It's still flaky, but usable. I have a feeling it is as you said, t5800512, google messing around too much, because the device itself (even now) can easily get a cold-start lock in under 3 seconds.

I've been having a somewhat mysterious problem with the wireless internet (Wi-Fi) signal on my SCH-1545, hopefully someone here can help me find a solution.
Details:
At rest, my wi-fi signal is weak, regardless of which network or router is producing the signal.
I use an oversized Anker 7800mAh battery, which adds a considerable amount of weight and bulk to my GS4.
I am currently running a recent snapshot release of Cyanogenmod (11-20140804-SNAPSHOT-M9-jflte). The last time I updated was few weeks ago, but my wifi issue began sometime early this week. Thus, it seems unlikely that the ROM is to blame. For what it's worth, my baseband version is 1545VRUAMDK.
Oddly, after some poking around, I've discovered that applying pressure to the back of the phone near the lock button seems to increase the quality of my wifi connection. For example, at rest right now my phone shows a 30% signal; when squeezed in the aforementioned manner, the signal jump s immediately to 55-60%.
I suspect that there may be some fault with the wifi antenna connector, or with the antenna itself.
My best theory right now is that a mishap or fall with this bulky battery installed may have delivered a shock to the phone's hardware beyond what it is designed to withstand. Consequently, it seems that the wifi system was somehow compromised. I've tried cleaning the wifi contacts as suggested here[1] .
Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone offer a solution?
I can't go on using my phone like this, and to get a replacement will be quite costly. However, if I do end up getting a replacement, I have my eyes on a LG G3

Have your tried doing a factory reset? I know this is a pain in the butt but maybe it will put your mind at ease. Have you dropped the phone or anything that would cause the antenna to suddenly become loose? Is your connection bouncing up and down or is it consistenly just staying low? Also before a factory reset try getting Wifi Analyzer from the app store and check to see whats going on. Just sounds rather buggy that it suddenly started happening.
Same thing been happening to mine just recently. Seems like when I squeeze the battery cover the wifi signal is stronger for a limited amount of time.

I tried a factory reset, didn't seem to help according to Wifi Analyzer (thanks for the app suggestion). As I said in my original post, I fear that drop may have caused this problem: since I use a heavy extended battery, I expect the damage caused by any fall would be magnified.

I attempted this as well - I removed the back cover and ensured all the ribbon cables and antenna cables were making a firm connection, and then I tightened all the cover screws. Nothing seems to have helped. Concurrent with my previous statement, I fear one of the modules (specifically the wifi/bluetooth SIC) on the motherboard may have become slightly dislodged from a random fall.
Does anyone know of a way I can test this theory or get it fixed if such is the case?

i'm in the same boat, my phone is exeriencing the exact same issue. I've got a new back plate on order, hopefully replacing that and the wifi/bluetooth antenna will resolve it.

so my G5 locks on to up to 20 satellites with more satellites being visible, but doesn't establish a GPS lock. It will sometimes acquire a lock after 15 minutes or so, but accuracy will be atrocious (300m+). It used to have <10m accuracy with less satellites locked. I did not change anything about my rom or installed software. Is there anything I can try?

Many commenters noted that bending the pins up only fixed the problem temporarily, that they eventually will lose contact w/ the back plate again. When I fixed mine last week, I put a 2x2mm square shim under the motherboard to keep the pins raised up enough to make good contact. I just cut a corner off a business card, removed the MB screw just above the pins, slid in the shim then replaced the screw. It only raised the MB a hair, but it was enough to keep the leads making contact with the back plate. My GPS has been working great ever since.
If you don't want to tear down your phone and risk voiding the warranty (or cracking the screen), others have said they had good luck sending their phones back for warranty repair. But you'll be w/o a phone for a week or more if you do that.
Thank you. The thing is, I already did that fix and my phone is seeing and gets a fix on plenty of satellites. It just doesn't get decent gps coordinates even with 20+ satellites connected.
So for anyone reading this: What worked for me was to open the phone again and actually use a slightly *thinner* piece of paper than before to raise the Mainboard. Currently seeing +-8m indoors and +-4m outdoors with 20+ SATs in use. No idea if it's going to last, though.
My AT&T H820 LG G5 is out of warranty and LG won't honor any repair since I bought it on eBay. I have tried 2 band aid fixes - shimming underneath the metal mesh damper gasket and also shimming underneath the motherboard where the 3 gold pins touch along with bending pins upward. Both "repairs" lasted a week. So is there a definitive and gauranteed fix? What is LG doing, just replacing the metal mesh and damper gasket and then it fails again? I also noticed that my metal mesh damper gasket is a different appearance than what I have seen photos of online, as if there is a revised part. My GPS is now completely non-functioning.
Anybody? Surely there has to be a lasting repair and known cause.

Unfortunately LG still uses those same old crappy useless springs that it did several years ago, and they are not very flexible hence why it fails and then fails again. I think putting items underneath will only bend it even further slightly raising them would have been a better fix and then firmly attaching the case. Probably too late for you. The only other option would be solder in some more but I haven't seen the board for ths device.
Would it be possible to use the GPS antenna from my bootloop G4?

I've looked how to do this and can only see how to use a phone as a GPS transmitter for a pc, please could you tell me how you did it?
Edit: I found one, worked my way through until it came to allow mock locations within developer settings, to find that as I am running android 7 this option has been removed so back to square one

Sure. On the phone with working GPS you want to share, install btGPS from Meowsbox, and get the licence key too (£1 if I recall correctly).
On the G5, install Bluetooth GPS from GG MobLab (which is free and fully functioning).
Once both apps are installed, you just have to pair the devices via bluetooth, enable the transmitter on the old phone, and finally select the old phone in the dropdown on the G5 and press connect.
Is it annoying? Yeah, a bit, but actually I can keep my old phone (Samsung S3) hidden away in the car and it still gives decent reception. And because the screen's off on that device, it lasts for hours without killing the battery.

Thanks for that Before I buy the software for the phone with working gps, does it require GPS mock locations on the G5 as it appears that functionality has been removed from the developer settings in android 7

Ahh - yes, good point. I also had to set Bluetooth GPS as the mock location app. Since that's the free app, I'd install that first and see if it can be configured. Also you can test out the transmitter app for (IIRC) 10 minutes before it dies in good crippleware form. Plenty of time to make sure it's working though.
Although... I'm using Android 7.0 on my H860 and mock locations is working fine
I ended up taking a chance and dropped a very small amount of solder on each of the spring contacts everyone keeps talking about lifting or putting a small piece of plastic underneath. In the past lifting the spring helped for a month or so before it started to not seek GPS again.
Yes, I've tried the whole APN update, using GPS Toolbox (which I've had before LG G5), rooted, etc but believe too this is simply a hardware issue on the contacts.
As far as the soldering is concerned, if you're near sighted, you won't need a magnifying glass but the contacts are very small so a very steady hand is a must and of course some soldering skill is required. I'll try to take a macro shot of how it looks this weekend. So far after a month it's been rock solid.
The 3 golden pins are from the volume control.
