[Q] Band 12 broke on XT1527 after 5.1? - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone confirm that the 5.1 update has broken band 12 LTE on the XT1527 Moto E?
I've read about it here:

When I purchased my phone, back in March 2015, the marketing material listed band 12. Now if you go to the motorola website they have removed band 12, this is such crap.
can anyone help me get back to 5.0.2?

Is your phone carrier branded? If it is, you can't do anything, as the bootloader is impossible to unlock.
The first thing to do would be finding 5.0.2 firmware for your device. This folder has a lot of firmwares, maybe yours is in here. If it is and you're sure it is, you'll need to unlock the bootloader to be able to downgrade, if your phone is carrier branden, I think you can't do this, according to this page. If your phone is a retail one, you'll be able to flash a firmware with band 12, and then re-flash 5.1 firmware with band 12.

I took care of it, my phone is not branded. Motorola support confirmed band 12 was disabled with 5.1. And before anyone asks, no you can't just flash the 5.0.2 radois on 5.1, that doesn't fix the band 12 problem, I tried it.

Yeah I am in the same boat..just bites. Band 12 was the only reason I got this phone.

[Q] band 12 on vzw motoe xt1528

According to spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones , the Moto E 4G LTE (2nd Gen) XT1527 is band 12 compatible. Can the XT1528 be made band 12 somehow, or is there a physical hardware difference between the devices?
What I gathered reading around here.
* Firmware images are available for T-Mo 1527. However I read that only the 5.02 firmware has band 12 working
* The bootloader is locked on the verizon device
Someone suggested that it might be possible to use part of the 5.02 firmware files for the radio for the 5.1 firmware, to enable band 12, but so far one person claimed that it did not work. . Looking at the number of views this thread has gotten, it appears there is a lot of interest in getting band 12 working on the verizon handset. If any of my statements are not correct, or otherwise, feel free to correct me
Verified the bootloader is locked on my 1528: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
* If it was not the case, then it might be possible to flash a firmware which enables band 12. Then we need a way to unlock the bootloader to enable band 12.

Canadian Telus Moto E 2nd gen (XT1527) Marshmallow update

Canadian carrier Telus has just added the Moto E 2nd gen (XT1527) to the official update list for the Marshmallow OS. The date listed is March 22.

Awesome. If someone can get the stock modem files this could be a 5.1.1 update (I hope) to NA phones.
Any chance the Canadian ROMs/updates can be applied to US moto E 1527? I know bootloader are locked but we're still talking about a legitimate marshmallow ROM made for the 1527 right ?

The Canadian model has a different region code than the US model (RETCA). In order to flash the Canadian model's ROM, you need to unlock the bootloader, so if it's the AT&T/GoPhone/Cricket model, no. If it's the Moto-direct model or Consumer Cellular model, yes.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sounds like I'm out of luck. So much for Motorola. It's for the best I suppose, it's not exactly a stable device. Back to apple!

Unlocked LG G Pad X 8.0 V520 (AT&T) Nougat Update

Update: I'm returning it and went to T-Mobile and got a V521.
Recently with T-Mobile's free line promo I got myself a free line. I picked up an unlocked V520/G Pad X 8.0 (AT&T model). Popped the Tmo sim in and it works great. However, it won't show an OTA update for Nougat, LG Bridge just gives "cannot get software version" errors, and as far as I can tell there is no where to find a KDZ file for the AT&T variant. Confirmed AT&T blocks updates on unlocked devices without AT&T SIM cards.
When I had Nexus devices, I didn't have too many problems flashing variants of stock ROMs while using on T-Mo, anyone successfully flashed the V521 update on the V520 variant? Not really worried about unlocking the bootloader or getting root, just want to be on the latest software -- mine is on a security update from June 2016.
edit: Any ideas on where to get stock AT&T firmware?

What's the magic to get this to update? I have a V520 new out of the box off eBay and I haven't tampered with it (haven't unlocked bootloader, rooted it, etc)... but it's on android 6.0.1 - how does one get this to update to android 7.0?
I'll take a link to that kdz file too, if you'd be so kind! Not sure if I can force the tablet to install that manually, but it's worth a try.
I just received this tablet (Unlocked) and having the same issue. It does not have Nougat OTA update, neither Update can be detected by LG Air Bridge Software. I'll really appreciate if someone can link me to the Nougat file.
Check updates using an AT&T SIM. A user in Slickdeals has reported success - sorry can't post the link - new user here.
Update: I myself tried using AT&T Go phone and it worked.

I also had success yesterday. But even after inserting the sim, it wasn't showing. So I called AT&T tech support, provided the IEMI number and they pushed it instantly.
I also got the LG V520 off ebay. I read in an ATT support forum that it was necessary to have an ATT sim card in the tablet or it will not be able to connect to the update server. The same forum suggested to bring the tablet to an ATT store or the Samsung Experience in a Bestbuy.
I can verify that it is not enough to simply to connect to the ATT wifi in the store, you do actually need to insert an ATT sim. It took some convincing to get the person at the ATT store to pull a sim card from a demo phone to let me try. Here are some tips:
-- The tablet will only allow you to check for an update once every 24 hours. Make sure that you don't check for an update 24hours before going to the store, or once you're there, do a factory reset in order to do the update check.
-- Go to the store when they aren't too busy so they are more willing to help out.
-- Once the tablet detects that there is an update available, you can shut down the tablet and replace with your own sim card. You can then connect to any WIFI connection to finish the update.
Changes in the Nougat ROM:
-- When you create a second profile, it can now enable "install from unknown sources", but there is still no access to the external SD card. It means that the secondary profile can only use the internal memory.
-- ATT pulled the "WIFI Hotspot" feature out of the Nougat ROM.
-- Just like the Marshmallow ROM, phone features do not work. I don't know if this is a firmware lockdown or if it's a software thing.
The lack of hotspot really makes me wish for a custom rom on this tablet. Here's hope we get one soon on the V520

Could any kind person with the file LGV520AT-00-V20f-ATT-US-DEC-21-2016-ARB00+0.kdz please upload it.
I've spent about ten hours looking for this file in the vain attempt to update the V520 to Nougat, before I wrap it and give to my daughter for Christmas.
Many thanks to anyone that can help me out with this.
Simon
I would just purchase an h2o SIM card. Since h2o is an att reseller, you will get an update within 24 hours.

Question Which December update to flash?

I've had my Pixel 6 for less than a month, bought it in Canada and updated in November to SD1A.210817.037, then rooted with Magisk. All is fine.
Now, I'm in Mexico with it, on Telcel, and the December updates have come out, but I have no idea which one to flash. Does anyone know?
The options are:
12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.016.A1, Dec 2021)
12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.016.A4, Dec 2021, EMEA carriers) *** I'm pretty confident it's not this one***
12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.017, Dec 2021, US carriers)
I'm thinking that it's the first option, but I'm not sure...
12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.017, Dec 2021, US carriers) <--- I used this since T-Mobile is a US carrier
Probably for you, your best option is to flash the first option
I'm asking myself the same question. I've a Canadian model too. Once I bought it I flashed "12.0.0 (SD1A.210817.019.C2, Oct 2021, T-Mobile (US), USCC, Google Fi, CA, & TW carriers)" with magisk. I didn't even update to the November one because I wasn't sure, but I would like to do this one and see if that solve some bugs that I have. I just would like to be sure about the first option (which would make sence).

Thank you friend
sorry y'all. Im in California, bought my P6P unlocked from Google directly. Should I use the 1st one (or the US carrier one (3rd)?
Thanks very much!
I think I'm gona wait a little bit more before updating. On another post many said that they lost root and magisk doesn't seem to work on the new update at the current state.

Sure, it's a post that explain how to update without losing root.
Method to upgrade every month, without wiping data and retaining root
Caution: I originally wrote this guide when it was necessary to disable verity and verification before flashing patched boot.img. Now Magisk has overcome this requirement and some users have reportedly flashed updates without disabling...
forum.xda-developers.com
But most recent posts says they wont keep root after the update. Saw the same reports on a Telegram and a discord server.
I'm wondering the same thing as well. I'm running Mint Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO) on an Unlocked P6P in the US. I assume the US Carriers is the one I need to flash but I'm not positive.
I'm getting corrupted data and stuck on google screen can anyone assist?
Does anyone know what is the difference between 12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.016.A4, Dec 2021, EMEA carriers)
and the A1 version ?
I have a Pixel 6 bought from the German Google Store and it received the December update, but it automatically installed the A1 version, which the support page says is for Canada.
I have not put a SIM in it yet, but it is in Europe.
Why did it not update to the A4 (EMEA Carriers) version ?, which is supposed to be for UK, IE, FR, DE.
And which EMEA carriers are we talking about, only from these countries: UK, IE, FR, DE, or also other from Europe ?
I wonder if I can install the A4 full OTA package over the A1 version ?

Check the support page again -- it's been updated and now says the 016.A1 version is the global unlocked version. I was told something similar by a Google chat rep through the in-phone support function.
You're on the right build.
I'm in the US. Google is telling me I can be either on SQ1D.211205.016.A1 or SQ1D.211205.017. Doesn't seem like a reliable answer. I have an unlocked P6P and I'm on Verizon. Did anyone get a clear answer?
This is nuts.
Why would Google not have one image that adapts to the carrier in-play? After all, folk can change carriers/regions during the life of their phone. What happens then? The phone doesn't work properly until it somehow figures out it needs a different image and then somehow flips to it?
What about if you temporarily travel to a different region and roam onto a different operator? Is your phone not 'right for that region' and doesn't work properly?
So do these different images relate to different hardware variances of the phone?

I don't think anyone knows at this point. There are some major issues with network connectivity some are blaming on the December update and some are saying ongoing from previous builds. I'm in the latter group. They will have to come out with a new update sooner rather than later since this is widespread across the globe.

Hmm, looks interesting. i have a spare Nexus device, so i can easily try it.
ok i've successfully updated SQ1D.211205.016.A4 (EMEA) over SQ1D.211205.016.A1 (global) using full ota. Storeage remains intact. Sim works (Spusu / Austria / Sub carrier using Hutchison Drei Austria).
But upgrading to SQ1D.211205.017 failed with "Build newer than timestamp 1638904347 but package has timestamp 1638280743 and downgrade not allowed". The same if you try to revert back to .A1 Image, so you have to unlock the bootloader and reflash the stock image. Of Course, all data will be lost.

Use Oxygen updater from play store
Set device in that app to India variant
Switch to Full Stable
Download the OTA
Follow instructions in Oxygen Updater... Download the local update app and flash India variant...
If rooted, follow those instructions also listed in the oxygen updater app
Instructions are very clear in that app, so make sure you read those as well.

I explained what I did from Global to EU, which is what he asked.
@blasbenoit A post on avoiding the TMobile variant has someone that found a way to change variants. You should check that thread out. It requires changing something in the zip and so far it has worked for him.
You could most likely do the same process to go from India to another one.
