[Q] General Wifi Issues, starting to suspect Android/Google bug, need help diagnosing - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got kind of a strange WiFi issue I've been working through for almost 6 months, and by process of elimination, I'm beginning to actually wonder if it could be an Android/Google bug. Only google devices seem to be impacted. I'm gonna overshare information here so that my troubleshooting steps can be audited; sorry if it's a long post. I’m open to any and all suggestions, but I’ve worked through this a ton and am pretty frustrated.
I have a pretty spread out house, so we made the decision to install 3 AP's, one in each far corner upstairs and one in the middle downstairs. Each one has the same SSID, so roaming should work. They’re on channels 1/6/11, all running at 2.4Ghz. I also am a pretty involved linux sysadmin, I have a home server running Ubuntu Server; I call it the HDA which runs my DHCP and a DNS server (and an iperf2 server). I have comcast business class to my house. The network topography is outlined below as best I can, all with Cat6e cables:
SMC Gateway (SMCD3G-CCR)
Minecraft Server (Dell Poweredge SC1425)
HDA Ethernet 1 (Dell Poweredge SC1425)
24-Port Switch
HDA Ethernet 2
Living Room 5-Port Gigabit Switch (TP-Link TL-SG105)
Living Room AP (TL-WA01ND; Channel 1) (Used to be Edimax EW-7228APn; Channel 1)
Xbox-360
Office Desk 5-Port Gigabit Switch (TP-Link TL-SG105)
System76 Wild Dog Performance
Attic 8-Port Gigabit Switch (TP-LINK TL-SG108)
Master Bedroom AP (Edimax EW-7228APn; Channel 6)
Theater Room 5-Port Gigabit Switch (TP-Link TL-SG105)
Theater Room AP (Edimax EW-7228APn; Channel 11)
Xbox-One
I have a bunch of wifi devices as well:
System76 Darter Laptop (Debian Sid)
Google Nexus 5 (Android 5.1, TWRP, Rooted, used to be on 4.4 as well)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Android 4.4.2)
4 Chromecasts
HP Work Laptop (Windows 7 Enterprise)
HP Wife's Laptop (Windows 7 Home)
Wife's Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android Jellybean) (INACTIVE)
Wife's Work iPhone 6
Wife's Work HP Laptop (Windows 7 Enterprise)
My DHCP server assigns all static IP's, and partitions things into 2 DHCP groups: primary DNS server pointing to the HDA and secondary pointing to google's DNS, or both primary and secondary pointing to google. All wired devices on the network perform flawlessly, and I've done repeated iperf tests from node to node to verify that the wired network works great, including wires to the APs.
So, now the issues. For a long time I operated under the belief that something was wrong with my setup, and I'm still open to that possibility. I had wifi connection issues on my darter laptop, on the chromecasts, and on the nexus phone. My work Windows laptop, my wife's home Windows laptop, my wife’s work iPhone, and my wife's work windows laptop work fine. After extensive troubleshooting of the network (I changed every setting on all the APs, I even swapped the living room AP out for the different one, and conducted an extensive wifi survey to find the best channel in each location) I discovered my darter laptop has a hardware flaw; the antenna for the wifi is directly under the keyboard, so having the laptop in your lap while typing on it causes dramatic wifi degradation (documented here: www youtube com watch?v=gDekZp3MFA8 ). I got a usb wifi adapter, and I've been golden ever since.
The issue itself: I’ll be connected to the wifi network, and some sites will load fine, then suddenly I’ll try to load something like the reddit app, or twitter, or facebook, etc etc...and it’ll just load forever. I’ll try to upload a youtube video of my son, it’ll take 45 minutes to start, but then when it does it’s lightning fast. Most apps oddly don’t time out...some do; Marvel Puzzle Quest gives “check your connection” but I’ve let “Reddit is Fun Golden Platinum” think for over 15 minutes, and it never times out, which I’d expect it to do in a network-down kind of situation. Reddit is the biggest example, I can browse something like /r/pics and load 5 images from imgur flawlessly, then suddenly the 6th will just never load. Additionally, when I come home from work, I find that even when wifi is on, it rarely connects to my network...in the settings, wifi will have the little ! next to it, but if i just manually connect to the network it connects instantly. A couple of times on my nexus it gave me the “poor connectivity” exclamation mark while already on the wifi, but I believe I disabled that using this guide: android. stackexchange. com questions/100657/how-to-disable-captive-portal-detection-how-to-remove-exclamation-mark-on-wi-fi All the services are fine, because I’ll drop off wifi and switch to LTE and everything loads fine. If I iperf to my HDA by IP from the Nexus, I’ll get very mixed results...I’ll get no response whatsoever and a timeout, then disconnect and reconnect (landing on a different AP) and it’ll work, but slow, and repeat again with different results. It feels like there’s an intermittent thing going on where the device forgets how to wifi for a bit.
My work also has a multi-AP setup; tons of Cisco AP’s broadcasting about 6 APs. I have trouble connecting here with the Nexus 5 as well, it doesn’t auto-connect (going into wifi settings, it says “Wifi Connection Failure”), and when I do if it even connects it’s very slow...meanwhile my laptop is on the same wifi and it’s lickety split. This is trickier since I don’t control the services and can’t test as well, also things like websense are in play. Both at home and at work, the wifi worked fine before the upgrade from 4.*. I did some validation with the networking guys, from the radius side I’m golden, but at this point I don’t even try to connect anymore. (Actually, today, I tried on our unrestricted guest net as well, same message, “Wifi Connection Failure” and that’s our unrestricted network for patients...iphones sitting right next to me are fine)
Before, my wife's S3 worked ok, but it was time for it to be replaced and she got a Samsung Galaxy S6, then at the same time got a galaxy tab. The phone came with Android 5.0.2 and the tablet came with 4.4.2, and she’s now having wifi issues. Additionally, our chromecasts do the same kind of thing (though it’s harder to debug). I can cast a song from DSub off my LAN subsonic server, and it plays fine...then it goes to fetch the next song, and may just sit for 20 minutes...never times out, but just hangs. I’ve gone and moved ALL wifi devices having issues into the DHCP group which just uses google’s DNS to eliminate that as a factor, but it hasn’t helped anything. Screencasting or watching Netflix drop off the chromecasts constantly.
So I did some testing, to eliminate variables in the multi-ap setup, I performed an iperf test with my laptop and my nexus right next to each other after renaming 2 of my APs so there’s no roaming. I performed all these tests sitting in my living room, both devices using the same DNS settings and sitting about 18 inches from each other. Reminder, Master and Theater are pretty far away.
Test 1: Master Bedroom AP
Nexus 1: 10.4s, 384KB, 302Kb/s
Nexus 2: 20.1s, 640KB, 261Kb/s
Nexus 3: 11.5s, 1MB, 732Kb/s
Nexus Speedtest: 184ms, ...stopped saying “Network communication issues” mid test, so I re-ran, 27ms, 1.44Mb/s down, 0.10Mb/s up
Darter 1: 10.7s, 1.5MB, 1.18Mb/s
Darter 2: 11.0s, 1.88MB, 1.43Mb/s
Darter 3: 10.3s, 1.50MB, 1.22Mb/s
Darter Speedtest: 25ms, .81Mb/s down, 1.35Mb/s up
Test 2: Living Room AP
Nexus 1: 10.1s, 6.75MB, 5.63Mb/s
Nexus 2: 10.1s, 6.12MB, 5.07Mb/s
Nexus 3: 10.2s, 4.75MB, 3.92Mb/s
Nexus Speedtest: 31ms, 8.07Mb/s...stopped saying “Network communication issues” mid test, so I re-ran, 29ms, 17.50Mb/s down, 5.05Mb/s up
Darter 1: 10.5s, 6.12MB, 4.92Mb/s
Darter 2: 10.1s, 7.62MB, 6.31Mb/s
Darter 3: 10.3s, 6.75MB, 5.51Mb/s
Darter Speedtest: 18ms, 15.13Mb/s down, 7.68Mb/s up
Test 3: Theater Room AP
Nexus 1: 111.3s, 512KB, 37.7Kb/s
Nexus 2: 32.5s, 384KB, 96.9Kb/s
Nexus 3: 102.9s, 331KB, 26.3Kb/s
Nexus Speedtest: Too weak to successfully load speedtest
Darter 1: 24.6s, 384KB, 128Kb/s
Darter 2: 25.7s, 384KB, 122Kb/s
Darter 3: 30.0s, 512KB, 140Kb/s
Darter Speedtest: Too weak to successfully load speedtest
So, the network is consistent-ish across them all, but the speedtest thing is exactly what I seem to experience. It’s FAST FAST FAST dead FAST dead FAST FAST FAST dead.
I don’t know what else to do. I am posting here since it’s the Google wireless devices all doing this, I don’t have a single complaint from a wired device or a wireless linux/windows device. It’s the android and chromecast devices that are giving me hell, and other than this correlation I’m stumped. I don’t know how else to troubleshoot; I don’t want to have to replace the APs but if I need to I can try to talk the wife into it. Just to be complete, I’ve theorized and tested the following to no avail:
Roaming Threshhold - Eliminated multiple AP’s with same SSID, no improvement
DNS - Switched to google DNS for all clients, no improvement
Channel - Surveyed and changed channels, no improvement
AP make/model - Replaced one AP, no improvement
Home network connection - Tried at work, no improvement
I’ve attached my network topography stuff, I can provide DHCP and DNS configs as well if anyone thinks it’d be helpful.

Wifi blocked at work any bypass?

OK so work have blocked several of us from connecting our phones to wifi. Now we have a router her but can not access it so image they blocked at the main offices where they manage the network. Their are several houses that have their own routers etc but connected to the same network if that makes sense.
So my question is first how would they block us and second how can we bypass it?

Several ways to block access to a wifi routers.
Ways to access the network would be bring your own from home, and plug it in to the network.
To many ways to block you out to know what they have done.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA
Probably two reasons why they did this -
1) Prevent rogue devices connecting to their network, i.e. devices they cannot control what is on them and therefore could introduce viruses into the network or allows others to hack in and steal data etc.
2) Prevent people connecting personal devices for personal use, downloading files, facebook etc. Using company time and resources for unproductive personal tasks.
Probably easiest to ask them why and to ease the restrictions.
On the how:
You can control what connects to what on a very fine level - by device, by what it does and who it can talk to.
Ye I understand why. They blocked us as their network is really slow and rubbish but when we do nights and no one is using it its nice to be able to connect as no signal their. Just wondered if their was a way to get around it. They seem to have blocked all phones that were connected but one that was has been able to reconnect which is a blackberry.

How to by pass works blocking phone 2 options
By pass I've discovered! May not work for all
WARNING TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
#1 way I've discovered (in my office)
(Other wise try bring your own wifi router and setting the ssid to company's name )
If you have a pc or Mac computer and plug Incoming Ethernet port into LAN port not WAN then from 1-4 LAN port into pc/Mac Ethernet )
Try hiding your wifi router either in tower box or in desk try to be not so obvious leaving cables everywhere , don't just leave out in the open for everyone to see..
What I did
(I've hide the router in the under my desk using 3M double sided tape and tucked the cables away so there not hanging down)
#2 way ( works anywhere you can get a wifi signal)
My. Discovered by pass :
I got a wifi repeater/ range extender
I've programmed it to my work network with their ssid and password
Then
On the repeater / extender
Your new Access Point
I used the same ssid but used a different password
(At this point you have created your own AP , which logins to your network wifi and then
Now
When I go home I just unplug my repeater and lock it up in my desk
Good luck Jason
Ps: option #1. if you need more help try YouTube if your confused what to do with wifi router
SEARCH "using old router as a wifi extender (or as second AP)
My boss already block ssid wifi for usage at handphone, only laptop can connect that wifi. How i can connect wifi via my handphone? Currently i use i phone 6s.
Any trip for unblock for connect to my phone?
What kills me about my situation is some dumb ass did streaming video one day and ran up like XXXX gb of data so naturally they started giving a damn about who was doing what... I got banned/blocked even though I've never streamed... I'm assuming I'm blocked... got the right password and my old phone said authentication failed. My new phone it doesn't say or haven't found where it says yet... I can't bring in my own connection as I don't have a office of my own and the building is too big and metal for the mobile signal to make it to my location...
edit: According to my idiot boss they're getting strict I guess and just blocking most stuff... ?
"How did you happen to do such thing - and on your last day at the job..."

[Q] Using Tethered LTE connection to host Services?

I have a grandfathered Unlimited Verizon Data Plan that my company is paying me to have. I do not like Verizon, and am out of contract, so I recently purchased a Nexus 5 and plan on paying monthly with Ting. I have to maintain a "company phone" but using Google Voice, and importing all my accounts, it is really trivial that I would be using the Nexus 5 on a different carrier, since they only subsidize their employees, the device does not actually belong to them.
Instead of leaving my GS3 in a shoe box somewhere or selling it, I wanted to try using it as a dedicated hotspot for my apartment since I live in an area that has capped data from ISP's and no real solution (read FIOS) yet.
I purchased a Netgear Wireless Bridge Adapter WNCE2001 and set it up to connect to the phone's wifi hotspot and plugged that into the WAN "internet" port of my router running Tomato 1.28 firmware.
All seemed ok as far as ability to surf the web, use netflix from my TV, etc however there was a huge problem with some of the things I host from my internal network, such as media servers Subsonic, and Plex.
I am not able to access anything hosted on my internal network from any external network, even though I have not touched or altered my configurations - just replaced the WAN / "internet" port of my router with the tethered data connection.
After days of research and reading I have attempted a few fixes, although none have truly worked so far:
1) I tried connecting the phone to an open VPN server and then routing that traffic through the built in wifi tethering . This indeed worked - I followed some threads linked below, and was able to verify that now everything on my network was using the Open VPN connection - however I could not figure out a way to forward the ports appropriately and access Subsonic or Plex from the outside world.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993689
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317841
2) I attempted using SSH tunnel from a remote Linux Server and although I could verify tha the tunnel was getting data piped through, I could not actually access Subsonic or PLex from the outside world. I tried to use tsocks to force all traffic for each service to use an established SSH tunnel but did not have much success.
It is important to note that these methods were tested on a shared server of a friend of mines, as far as I know they do not have root access and can not alter the open VPN or Open SSH configs or manually open ports on the server side. I wanted to just test it out to verify that it could work because I do not have a dedi or vps at the moment, I would consider getting something small from digital ocean or Amazon EC2 if this could actually work.
3) Lastly, I tried to use this port forwarding app, which as far as I can tell did absolutely nothing
Any help or direction is much appreciated, at this point I am more frustrated because after hours of reading and trying things out I feel as though I am now even more confused as to why this isn't / can't / could be working?!?!
Another thread I found here that seems like maybe it could be similar is the ability of getting NAT free with XBL using tethered data. I dont play video games, but I am wondering if something similar could be done using a crossover cable to allow for opening up ports through the wireless ISP as well? The older computer I use to host my media stuff from is running Ubuntu, and I have a Macbook Laptop, I only run Win7/8 in VM's on occasion - ideally though I want to find a solution that only uses the Linux Laptop, the phone, and the router - I can't leave my laptop home.
TLDR;
Halp! :silly:
[old desktop]- - - - ->{ROUTER]- - - - - >[WIFI ADAPTER]- - - ->[TETHERED GS3]- - - >[VZW]- - -> INTERNETS :good:
How to I send media servers from one side to the other and avoid all the NATing and dynamic IP's ? :victory:
I use versavpn with verizon and connect with openvpn. They give 3 ports to forword and dedicated ip. You chose the ports u want to forward on there web site. I have plex and remote desktop and a ftp server running on my unlimited data Verizon plan 300 gigs used a month for 3 years now. This has worked OK for me. I also ditched the tethered phone and went for a 4glte router instead much less hassle.

Why is my phones Wifi so extremely slow?

My Internet speed is roughly 50 down and 5 up. I use a Netgear modem/router (this was the router that worked correctly with all of my demands). I have an iMac that will get the full 50 download speed via wifi. My iPad gets around 30 (not the full 50 but satisfactory)... but my Note 3 is around 1Mbps. Maybe sometimes it'll spike up in speed for a few moments... But it's so inconsistent. I tried using different channels on the router.... No improvement. (the upload speed is fine though. It'll usually be the full 5mbps)
Any ideas on what's going on? Any settings on the router I can try to help improve this? (stock note 3).
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Digital Trends has an article that has some tips on this issue:
Glitch: Wi-Fi issues
Some Note 3 owners are having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks, finding that the Wi-Fi is very slow, or that the device keeps dropping the connection. There are a ton of potential reasons for this and consequently there are a ton of potential fixes. Here’s what you can try:
Workaround:
Some people with stability issues have been able to get solid Wi-Fi connections simply by making sure that mobile data is switched off. Just drag down the notification shade and toggle Mobile data off.
Potential solutions:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap Menu > Advanced and then uncheck Auto network switch. That seems to have helped some people.
Try turning off the Note 3 and your router for a few minutes and then turn them both back on again.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and long press on the problem connection, then tell the device to forget it and set the connection up again from scratch.
Try out the free Wi-fi Analyzer app and see if crowded channels could be the issue. If so then change the channel on your router.
Make sure that your router firmware is up to date and check settings like MAC filtering.
If you’re having stability issues then you might try disabling the apps Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Direct Share via Settings > Applications manager on the All tab.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately nothing seemed to of helped.
I do not know how to tell which type of router I have. I can tell you it took many routers to find the right one (NetGear C3700). I went through a bunch of Time Warner crap and several from Best Buy......even Motorola's flagship modem/router. It needed to do the following:
Provide open NAT type for Xbox live
Allow my Android device to recognize the Xbox One as a device on my network (pics, vids & music through the console)
Allow Android Youtube app to communicate with the Xbox One Youtube app.
Allow proper connection to my iMac via Wifi (One of Time Warner routers would not work with my iMac)
My BT and Wifi havent worked the same since the KitKat update - Thanks again

Man that sucks, I had serious issues with 4.3. since KK I've been rocks solid with WiFi,
You might try to old factory reset (which sucks I know) just backup first so if there is no change you can restore easy enough.
What ROM are you running? Stock?
Set your wireless channel away from everyone elses. There is a setting where you can just set it to just 802.11N save it. Try setting your wifi port to static for your device. Check your wifi settings on your device. Make sure your using the same channel on your device as for the router.
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've already tried a factory reset since the KK update (for Bluetooth issues). No help.
The phone is stock.
I've tried changing around the channels a little bit with no success so far. How can I change the channel on the device? How do I set the port to static for my device?
Thanks

Issues with TDLS (Tunneled Direct Link Setup) prevent use of vlc remote control

Hi,
I am just a Android user, but I believe my observations and questions are interesting and relevant to people in this forum.
I use a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) and wanted to use one of the many VLC remote control apps towards my Ubuntu computer that has a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter (Lite-on). Unfortunately none of them worked. All had network issues. I tried different ports and also used several browsers to access the http server of vlc directly, but even the browser had issues: it basically kept synchronised for 4 or 5 seconds, then lost synch and recovered only after roughly 15 seconds just to loose synch again after 4 or 5 seconds.
I checked the TCP connection. It did not break down. However, every 4th or 5th GET request got delayed by around 14 seconds.
I digged into it and found out that the A3 sends a TDLS Setup Request to the QCA9565, gets a TDSL Setup Response and then sends a TDLS Setup Confirm which is replied by the QCA9565 with a TDLS Teardown. After that, the connection between the two hosts is dead for about 14 seconds.
Other hosts in the network did not have such issues, but as far as I can see, they are also not using TDSL. So I suspect that some issues with TDLS between my Samsung A3 and my Ubuntu machine regularly interrupt the local WiFi connection between the two.
So now my question: Is it somehow possible to disable TDLS on my Android phone? Or are there any vlc remote apps around that somehow suppress TDLS for such local WiFi communcation?
Thanks
Michael

M8S Pro shuts down my WiFi router for all devices!

OK so I have an incredible problem and I swear I'm not bs you guys, I'm not a troll, it's true.
So, a few weeks ago I bought a Meecol M8S Pro (Amlogic S912, Android 7.1, ARM Cortex A53, 3GB RAM) from Gearbest. The box itself is all right, but it causes a problem I never seen in my life and I never thought it would be possible for any device to do.
Basically, when I turn on the android box, as soon goes in to home screen, right after the splash / intro "Meecol", it messes my Fastweb modem and all my devices can't connect to internet!
They see my WiFi but it's a " Internet but no connection". As u can see from the picture attached, LEDs on my modem goes red, showing some problems. Only turning off the box and rebooting the modem fixes the problem for all the devices. The most incredible thing is that modem "goes crazy" even BEFORE the box actually connects to his WiFi. In those seconds the box goes into home screen and is stll searching WiFi , I can already see my modem is already messed up! Note that if I keep all my devices turned on (the android box too) and THEN reboot / turn on my modem, everything is OK and they all connect, but obviously this is no solution to reboot my modem every time...
I can only assume is some problem related to IP addresses or something, I went in to settings but everything seems all right. What could it be? And how the hell a single android device can mess a modem and connection for all devices?!?!

Do u mean Settings > WiFi > -my network properties- > Advanced Options > IP > I have to switch from DHCP to Static? What parameters do I have to set? I see IP Address, Gateway, DNS1, DNS 2...
By the way, in the attachment you can see from my modem settings, how i see all my devices when leds on moden are red, "Internet without connection" for all devices
- The Android Box
- My Notebook
- My Philips smart tv
- One Chromecast in the kitchen

There are plenty of tutorials showing how assign static IP addresses on a device.
Since it is slightly different for all in the menu I can't give you specific advice on that bit.
Your router offers an IP range for your devices and you have to assign a unique IP to every device that connects.
E.G.: Router home page is on 192.168.0.1
Set IP range in the router is 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.255
Then every device needs and IP within this range, the default gateway is your routers IP.
DNS use Google's default 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I see...can I just set static IP for the android box and keep DHCP for all the rest? Or do I have to change to Static for all of them?
P.S. Nevermind, I figured out...OK, I'll do some tests...
Best to do it for all devices.
How did your test go?
I assume all working as expected now?

Still testing...first time I set IP static, right after that, at the first boot, modem went crazy again...but just once. After that time, everything is OK. So, still testing...
OK a little update. Basically the IP static thing it was working...randomly. Sometimes working, sometimes no, sometimes it didn't make any difference.
But I just found out something very odd. If I forget my WiFi password on the android box and I turn it on (so basically it won't even try to connect, because it doesn't know the password anymore...like a new network)...the router still goes crazy! How the hell is this possible???
P.s. as u can see, the WiFi's android box is not even turned on!
I don't know your router but it could be a safety feature.
Some turn the WiFi off if there were too many unauthorised access attempts.
As the box has dual wifi it might be that it tries to connect on both frequencies at the same time.
In case your router is dual band too try to turn off one band and see if that helps.

In case your router is dual band too try to turn off one band and see if that helps.

U didnt get the point. Read carefully my previous post. Wifi's android box is OFF! It doesn't even TRY to connect to my network! Basically , being turned on near the router is enough! I know it sounds absurd, but that's what happens. See the video. What kind of impulse - emp - vodoo waves this thing have?!?!
You are right, I missed that bit, sorry.
But it might explain the problem!
Just for fun: Place the box in a big tin can or small metal bucket so the metal hields it into the direction of your router.
If the router performs fine now then you found the culprit named interference.
Always had it the other way around though, wiFi devices for example messing with my DVB-T receivers...
In your case I see two possible culprits: The power supply and the box itself.
For the power supply you could try if the box works (for a test only) by using a USB cable to power it.
If shielding the box helps then we might have to find out what causes the interference or find a way to shield the box without buckets and cans.

OK, don't bother that, I just found out something potentially important. I tried every possible solution and combination possible, thinking if its not wifi or Bluetooth interference, I thought "...uhm even of its not connected to wifi or Bluetooth to anything, it is connect trough HDMI to my TV...and my TV is indeed connected to my network (Philips smart TV)...could it be...?"...
I WAS RIGHT. If I turn on the android box NOT connected to TV, router is OK...as soon as I connect the HDMI cable, boom, it all goes to **** again.
Remember, android box's wifi and Bluetooth are always OFF.
solution?
Check HDMI settings on box and TV.
I don't have a big- or smart enough TV...
But if the box can control the TV over HDMI, or the other way around, you might get troubles if something is not working 100%.
I doubt the cable itself will be the problem as these are usally shielded and working in a totally different frequency range but if you have a spare cable try it too.
Friend of mine has similar problem with his noname 60" tv when he uses the tablet for Netflix.
For some reason we still can't figure out TV and tablet try to sync the Wifi - for a lack of explaining it better.
No matter what the TV is set to, once Netflix is started to stream on the TV a different protocol is used and no Wifi works anymore.
The router though does not turn into a xmas tree...
If you can set all to basic HDMI, no CEC or automaic stuff like switching the TV on when the box gives signal.
Also double check that all your devices use assigned and unique IP addresses - only too often DHCP is a culprit by giving out addresses already used by other devices in your network.
Edit:
Bit old but just one of the many websites that point to problems on Phillips TV's.
https://threatpost.com/wifi-bug-plagues-philips-internet-enabled-tvs-2/105134/
Wifi seems only to work properly if the router is not invisible and other WiFi problems are not fixed for years by the manufacturer.
TV might be smart, Phillips certainly is not LOL
OK, tried other milions of combinations and finally I found the "problem" even if its even more absurd.
First of all, I have to say also my PC desktop (not even turned on lol!) is connected to my TV. That's it: if those 2 (android box and PC) are connected to tv by HDMI, if I turn on the android box, my router goes Christmas. So what I did:
- If it's an IP address problem (trough HDMI?!?!), I tried to just disconnect the Ethernet cable in the back of the PC: still Christmas!
- so I tried to COMPLETELY turning off the PC on the back, with the master power button: still Christmas! WHAT THE HELL?!?! IMPOSSIBLE!
- At this point I just tried to keep the HDMI cable plugged to nothing. Literally just one end to the TV and the other end disconnected from the PC.
FIX IT! LOOOOOOL
SERIOUSLY? ONE DAMN HDMI CABLE?
By the way, I never had any problem with THAT cable, I don't remember where I bought it, but I've been playing my games on computer trough my TV for years...never a problem. By the way, is a mini HDMI - HDMI cable, knowing me, a cheap one from eBay...at the moment I do have other HDMI - HDMI cables, but no other mini HDMI, this is the only one I ever got. Tomorrow I'm gonna buy another one, but in the meantime...what the hell is going on? Lol
Well, at least you found the source of the problem....
