[MOD] HTC Widgets on 3rd Party Launchers V1.2 2015-08-16 - AT&T HTC One (M9)

I have created a mod using the VRTheme template to allow several of the stock HTC widgets to work on other launchers. I have only tested this on my rooted, but stock AT&T M9 running the 1.32.502.31 ROM.
To use this mod, you have to have Sense running on your ROM and the widgets already need to be installed. This mod is only designed to modify the widgets so that you can use them on launchers besides Sense Home.
To make this work, I decompiled the above apk files and dug around in the manifest to try and figure out what was preventing them from showing up in the other widget pickers. I figured out that for each of the widgets, there was an xml folder that controls aspects of the widget. In these xml files I found a line that was: htcControlFlag="1" By removing this from the xml or changing it to htcControlFlag="0", the widget is now free to be used. I recompiled the widget apk files and then just removed the modded xmls and put them all in this VRTheme template.
If you try this mod, please be sure to backup your system partition first. Also, ask any questions and I can elaborate on this thread later. Or add more of the widgets.
I would love some feedback from people running the international versions.
Updated 7/20/15: I found that the Android 5.1 version of the rom requires a new MOD. So I renamed the original one to reference the 5.0.2 ROM and the new one to reference the 5.1 ROM.
Updated 8/16/2015: I am told that the 5.1 version works on the older 5.0.2 ROMs. I have not verified this myself, but others have.
Change Log:
V 1.2
CalculatorWidget
V 1.1
HtcDataStripWidget
HtcMusicWidget
V 1.0
HtcCalendarWidgets
HtcContactWidgets
HtcWeatherClockWidget

Hey that's great, but I think Venom Roms already have this in them. I used to run Venom on my M8 and I could use these widgets in Nova Launcher. That was actually my inspiration for figuring out how to do it.

Updated the OP to add a new MOD for the 5.1 ATT ROM. I am still not sure if these work on the equivalent international versions, so if anyone tries it please let me know.

Hi thanks for this. Is it possible to do the same for the htc music widget?
Many thanks.

V1.1 Update 2015-07-24
I updated the mod for 5.1 to add the following:
HtcDataStripWidget
HtcMusicWidget

Thanks for this.
Been wanting to do away with the dock on sense launcher since forever. Unfortunately cant find any mods to do this and to use all the homescreen on my m8
Using your mod I am now able to use another launcher.
Thanks again.

So did the mod I made with the 5.1 files actually work on the 5.0.2 ROM? If so, that is great news. Because I couldn't get it to work the other way around.

V1.2 is up with the calculator widget included. It takes a minute or so for the widget to fully appear, but it works once it shows up on the screen.

Thanks for you work! :good:

[Q] How to add HTC Friendstream and HTC Legend browser to HTC Hero Rom?

Hi,I'm kinda new at this ROM Cooking thing, but can someone teach me how to add HTC Friendstream and HTC Legend browser to HTC Hero Rom?
Id assume you find the relevant apks and put into the correct folders, no? But only on sense roms as the HTC libraries are needed aswel, cant just add the apks to Vanilla ROMs.
But I know JACK about rom building!

Correct!
You'll only be able to do it with a 2.1 Sense Rom just now, not any of the 2.2 Vanilla ones availale just now.
It sounds like you're using a vanilla version, in which case you could use LaucherPro and use those widgets which basically do the same thing
Thanx pal,.. oh yeah, Launcher Pro,... Google 'launcher pro plus' and take a look at the alt widgets they provide.
And next time,... please post in GENERAL or QnA. Thanx

dont think its possible, i've never seen it done anywhere before
hello
RCMix 2.2b has friendstream and Legend browser.
Boot time is excelent, I'm currently using it with flykernel 10a.
And it's faster than VR12, I was also using that for quite some time
Simply remove unnecessary things from RC2.2b and You are all set
hope this helps.
Cheers!

[REQ] Google News & Weather Widget

So the MT4G came without the standard Android News & Weather widget (strange) and although I know there's an HTC / Sense version, I love the original version. I know there are various .apk's of it floating around to side load, but I haven't been able to make any of them work- they all force close after install.
Any thoughts for a working version?

Thank you- this version installs and will work by opening the actual app, but the widget doesn't work- I get 'problem loading widget' in it's place... so weird, any ideas?
I don't think the Widget works on the Sense Launcher. It works fine on other 3rd Party Launchers (Launcher Pro and ADWLauncher)

Small Clock Widget Sensation XL? (SOLVED)

Is it possible to get the smaller version of the clock widget that is on the Sensation XL version of sense 3.5
EDIT they have the clock in the new sense ics roms!
I have tried a few methods from the Sensation forum and none of them have worked for me. I can get it to install and show up under widgets but it will not show up on my home screen. I am running a custom rom. I think maybe our screen resolution has something to do with it??

Although you would have to purchase it, just get Beautiful Widgets from the market. It has everything that you would need. That's a 4x1 widget that's included with BW. You can also get tons of skins to make it look how you want.

I noticed the ICS leaks have this widget. Is there anyone that can port it to Gingerbread?
I would like this too. I've seen it on the ics roms and I had it on some gingerbread roms on the evo 4g when they were making sense 3.0 roms for it.

Tried this and it doesn't work. The small widget doesn't even show up as an option. Then I tried to use the exact apk from ics and it shows the small clock but when selected it doesn't display on screen. The other clocks work though. Any ideas?

I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but what exactly is the LGhome3 and what will change if I use one of the one's that where linked above me? I see there is LGhome.JB4.apk and some others. I think i have an idea what LGhome3 is, but i guess im not exactly sure. Lol. Thanks in advance.

LGHome3 is the version of the LGHome Launcher that as far as I know, LG make it for ICS and partially upgraded with the 4.1.2 upgrade (It just add some wallpapers and some basic changes to the widgets). The LGHome.JB4.apk that you saw was a port from somebody in the community to make it available for 4.2 since the other versions FC and wouldn't work properly. Currently that port works partially and for 4.2 and FC when you try some things.
You can also see another version of the LGHome in the market called Simple Home by LGElectronics ( http://goo.gl/7eAVz ) and I think it was the version 2 since it doesn't have an app drawer, don't came with the widgets and it's compatible with Froyo 2.2.
About the themes you were looking for, LGHome has themes since version 2. Some carriers like AT&T block all the themes (I don't know why!) or only left 1 or 2 in their deploy, but they could be found at the Korean and Japanese ROMs.
Looking for a LGHome port to 4.2 I found some themes that work at http://goo.gl/bjjjr
Also found this other page where there's a link to download 10 themes for the LGHome at http://goo.gl/mKeIm
Please take note that to those themes to work properly they have to be installed in the /System/App folder (Need root access) and not in the /Data/App folder where the apps normally install when you use the installation wizard opening the apk directly. The links I provided previously have a very good tutorial of how to install them in a way that they work.
Anyway, LGHome is a very good launcher but if you are looking for another experience about themes and changing the appearance try another launchers like Nova and Apex that will give you a very Nexus 4 feeling and are very good saving battery life. Also you can use Go Launcher that have a lot of free themes. Or if you want to make huge changes or get very different experience check buzz launcher or MiHome that have some really good themes and some crazy stuff.
Go out there and try them all and every time you want to try something different, have more than 1 working launcher installed just in case and make backup of everything you overwrite in case you damage something.
Good luck.
^^ wow. That was one of the best replies I've gotten on here! Excellent! Thank you very much for the great information. That was above and beyond helpful. Thanks again. Cheers
