replacement data cable and mains charger UK - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I am new to tablets. I recently bought a Nook 7in HD tablet and took it on holiday. I have the tablet still but the cable and charger were in my suitcase which was stolen. I am having difficulty getting a replacement charger. The one I see on Amazon will take a month from Hongkong as I am in the UK. I am unclear if the mains adapter part is universal and that if I get a used data cable (which would be quicker) I could get a universal wall adapter. Surely there must be a quicker way than waiting a month!
Many thanks for your advice.

There's a forum for the Nook HD/HD+ tablets (this one is for the older Nook Tablet). You might get a better response there.

Extra USB Connector Cable?

Is it possible to purchase a spare USB Connector Cable without the wall charger?
I want to get a few spares - to keep one at work, and maybe a couple at home.
Any Ideas?
I saw some on eBay for about 10 bucks. No US sellers though.

Yeah.. A bunch of Chinese knock offs but they're just 40pin connectors. I'd rather pay 10$ for one on ebay than 30-40 for an OEM Asus cable..

10. TABLET - USB Cable
USB Cable (3 Feet) - $18

USB Cable (5 Feet) - $20
http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?..._detail&p=4293
I purchased and have received two of the 5 ft USB cables.
18$ 3' cable is a ripoff lol
I've been using "Chinese" made type cables for years just because I can buy like 10 of them for the price of one OEM type. And they do actually work. I bought some Apple itouch cables from Ebay that were cheap as hell and work perfectly. Apple wanted mega bucks for the same thing.
I could only find USB cables for the TF101 at the Asus store, and I know they are the same as for the prime, but get this.... They are all out of stock on the Asus website.
How could Asus not have figured out that these cables would now be in higher demand? It's ridiculous to spend 500 bucks on a new tablet, and not be able to pick up a spare charging cable right away.... I am NO APPLE LOVER, but at least you can walk into a Best-Buy and pick up a charging cable without hunting across the entire planet to find one. If a company is going to make their cable proprietary, at least make it readily available for purchase. Real poor shoddy job by Asus on this... They really need to up their game. Their tablet can certainly stomp on the competition, but things like this keep holding them back.
Will the prime charge over this proprietary cable over usb?

That's why I ordered the charger and USB cables on Dec 8, didn't want to get caught in the Christmas PRIME rush

Problem with charging Pad and/or Dock

Now after waiting more than one month I got my transformer, but...
The pad (alone) is charging very slow (several hours) although the pad tells me it is not charging - strange!
The dock (alone) is not charging
The pad in the dock is charging as long as the dock has some power
but remember, I'm not able to charge the dock.
Phonecall with Amazon:
I should send back all the stuff and they will replace it.
I waited more than one month for the pad and therefore I suggested only to send me a new charging cable and adapter
That is not possible for Amazon, so they gave me the phone number from Asus
Phonecall with Asus:
They will not send me a new cable and adapter without having my one.
It can last up to several weeks till I will get back the cable - hmpf!
Trying to buy a new cable/adapter, so that I can work with my pad is very (too) expensive.
So, now I am thinking about giving all back and buy some other stuff from another company.
Frustrating!

I'm sorry to hear this. At my local bestbuy they have a Prime and dock on display. Maybe your local Bestbuy has a display model with a AC Adapter/cable that you could try out?
@skygunner: What do you mean with "Bestbuy"?
Bestbuy is a local electronics store here in the U.S. Do you have a store that sells the Prime where you can test your dock?
we have some but they don't sell this one but only the parent version and there I think is a different adapter/cable.
Solv ethe Transformer Prime charging problem - easy
Don't send back to ASUS they have no idea what this problem is.
Simple solution ( I had nothing to lose by trying it). Reset using a paper clip for 10 seconds in hole in tablet near SD card.
No settings seem to be lost, all wireless passwords intact, Skype contacts OK. Started taking charge straightaway. And been fine since. I would prefer that ASUS could tell me why but it is working fine and a brilliant piece of kit. No WiFI or GPS issues for me and buying through Carphone Warehouse pain free and I was no fan of theirs. Hope this helps.
My symptoms were:
Keyboard had drained to nil, tab had drained to 25%. No charge being taken. Tried alternative trasnformer plug and a PC USB port. Still no charge. Cable was recognised as it sparked the Prime into life. I have ICS downloaded.
don't reset.
put your charger in the freezer for a while.

Or bend the prongs to ensure proper connection once charger is fully assembled
Or all of them.
P.s.
If you throw it in the freezer, please put it in a bag and don't let it get saturated with moisture.
(So so funny that they can't even get like a $1 charger right, and we're expecting a fully-functioning tablet from them...)

Dealextreme Asus transformer chargers

I recently saw that Dealextreme is stocking two wall chargers for the Asus Transformer series of tablets
One with the proprietary connector built in
http://dx.com/p/ac-power-adapter-ch...101-tf201-sl101-black-2-round-pin-plug-137392
and one with a 15v USB port
http://dx.com/p/ac-power-adapter-ch...mer-tf101-tf201-black-2-round-pin-plug-126492
has anyone tried them? I think I'll order the one with the proprietary connector, and so if it fails, I'll still have the connector to tinker. Also, if it works, I'll get to keep the cable at home, protected, instead of in my messenger bag.
I have tried the one with the 15v USB port - and it works just fine.
The best value for money (as always from DX).
i could buy those charger on ebay.. but what is the review about those chargers
I use second and i dont have any problems.:good:
Bought the one with the proprietary connector built in from them - works just fine.
I bought one from ebay here. It works great and you don't have to worry about that stupid asus brick crapping out on you.
Anyway, it's good to have one functioning properly with charger connected.

How to use this in the US? Is the round-pin connector removable?
TIA;
Pat
This one is half the price of the asus, available with amazon prime, and got REALLY good reviews. Just ordered one today, will provide feedback when received.

It actually is microUSB. I lost my OEM cable (which is slightly different, i think they added a couple pins to enable fast charging) but I use a motorola cable and it works fine for charging. it just takes a ridiculously long time and it doesnt charge while you're using it. unless you have a B&N store around you (which i'm going to assume you don't) you can't really get a new cable. maybe online but i wouldn't do it, chinese cables are cheap, bad, and potentially dangerous

yeah the B&N store or its products are not available here in local markets or online stores.
I am gonna try charge it on the regular micro usb cable. thanks for your suggestions.
@skepticmisfit
hi, it worked well. I switched the tablet off, put it plugged in all night to my laptop, and by morning at 9 it was fully charged.
Thanks for your suggestion. :good::good::fingers-crossed:

Yes the B&N cables are special, the pins are longer and more of them to tell the nook to fast charge. But as you found out, any micro USB cable can work, just slow slow charge it. And you can't use the device and charge at the same time as you will be using more energy than is being supplied. Oh another help is to turn off wifi when charging from USB, having that on will have the device charge slower as the the radio will be accessed occasionally.
I did find this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FMMPDT4/ref=twister_B00FMMOSYU the connector looks longer than standard USB so perhaps it would work. I can't say for certain of course. I also saw used Nook Tablet power adapater/cable sets on amazon as well (original OEM). And a final suggestion would be to get one from ebay. I have seen a few there as well.
I am surprised B&N won't ship the cable at all. Seems like they would want to sell/move them. I was looking at them the other day and you can see how the V2 is from the photo. The connector on the nook side is not long and easy to snap off/apply stress to like the original. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/nook-color-new-cable/27359237?ean=9780594459453
If anyone ever gets the KS cable, please post so we know it works for sure. It looks like it will, and I may even contact them to see. I think the biggest problem with the original nook color/tablet cables was the nook connector was too long/straight and easy for people to break (that and the connector wasn't reinforced like it should have been).
@skepticmisfit
I see some sellers from china who can ship the cable to my local address. I'll see if I can get a good one.
Also, keeping the cable connected to the laptop's USB 3.0 port is useful. :good::good::good:

No. It seems i don't need a nook's stupid cable at all. The tablet gets charged on usb 2.0 port too. I am using the CM11 nightilies ROM and gapps minimal, that is efficient in terms of battery usage.

Does it fast charge? I thought the NT would only fast charge if you use the B&N cable? Or is the fast charging lock to their cable only work with the stock ROM?

You don't really need a replacement Nook charger, any 5V 2A USB wall-charger plug and a regular micro-USB cable would do although it would take a bit longer to charge.
While Digi is right, there are official Nook cables and chargers (refurbished) on ebay at the moment. You can still get the cables from Barnes and Noble but I don't know if they will ship to India or not. I would try searching for "nook tablet" on ebay.
Also if you are going the generic charger/cable route, be sure to have the screen and wifi off while charging. If you have the screen on, it will discharge faster than you can charge it.
One final note, even if you are going to get a official charger (which I would recommend as it is so much faster) it would be wise to plug it in to a generic cable/charger combo for now. It is NEVER good to leave the Nook laying around with a dead battery. It will kill the battery in short order. And it is harder to get a Nook Tablet going again with a generic charger if the battery gets too low (shuts down on you).

Can anyone recommend a cable from amazon or eBay?

Hello,
I have patched my original tf300t charge/data cable too many times and need a new one. I have been eyeballing the longer cords like 10ft and 6.5ft on amazon and eBay. Has anyone bought one and liked it? Can you give me the link? Does it charge quickly? Thicker then original?
Thanks!
Instead of buying a 'rare' cable (custom Asus connector + long non-standard size) I would get a cheap replacement cable for the tf300t and a regular USB3 extension cable.
I got one here, standard size, haven't had any issues.

Thank you! Mine's just about to give up the ghost!
Had issues with the cheap ones from china. Bought a PWR+ 6 ft wall plug and it works great. I did find some official Asus cables on ebay that were super cheap and worked flawlessly. I know this is late to the party, but never hurts to update.
Here is the wall unit I bought
http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Charg...5961&sr=8-10&keywords=Asus+TF300T+power+cable
I have had it for 3 months now without issues
