Home Button stops working - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Z2 is running Lollipop 5.0.2. It's not rooted and no modifications have been made. For the last few days my home button will suddenly stop working. I hit the button and nothing happens. Nothing can get me to the home screen and then I have to restart the phone. It will work for a few minutes and then stop working again. To say that this is frustrating is putting it mildly. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try?
Also, how do I get into recovery mode to wipe the cache and partitions? I want to try this and see if it solves my problem, but I can't figure out how. I've tried this method:
Switch off your Xperia Z2 first
Switch it back on and the time when you see your phone’s LED notification light turn Pink! (or any other color) — start pressing either the Volume UP or Volume Down key a couple of times to make your phone boot into recovery mode
Unfortunately, when I press the power button, the sony screen comes up immediately... there is no LED light.

^ Is for people that have rooted their phones and installed a custom recovery.
You could try and repair your phone with pc companion or reinstall with flashtool

How do I do that? I downloaded and installed pc companion, but I don't see a way to get into recovery mode to clear the cache. It has backup/restore, but that's about it...

Sony doesn't have a recovery like other brands. You can't clear caches because you haven't rooted your phone or installed a recovery, all you can do is search a tutorial and follow it step by step to flash a stock firmware, either by PC Companion or Flashtool.
Also, you can downgrade at anytime you want, specially if you want to root Lollipop you must start by rooting 4.4.2. Remember: Sony is not Samsung or Motorola. Downgrades are not dangerous if you follow the instructions.

Help!

My Xperia Neo V does not turn on, just shows Sony Ericsson and is always doing a loop trying to start.
I've tried hard reset in 3 ways:
Volume Up + Power
Volume Down + Power
Back + Menu + Power
None of them worked.
I've tried using the PC Companion software to update, but nothing done with phone turned off.
I've tried installing a new kernel, but the phone is not recognized.
I do not know what I can do.
Is there any way to access the system folders in the internal memory via PC without turning the phone on?
Does anyone have an idea?

Hi,
This is my suggestion:
first download FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick
http://www.multiupload.com/Q103V01CV1
Follow instructions (if u familiar with updating with sony ericsson pc companion, this u can do)
Turn of phone, do not connect get.
Simple, start FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick, click flash. Choose loader.sin on the right. Then click OK,
Hold in back button while Now connect phone with usb cable.
See its flashing, wait till it's done, unplug phone,. try to boot up phone.
Hope it helps. Helped me when i play to much with phone and brick it.
Thanks for the help, but I have my bootloader locked.
Instead I used SEUS and managed to reinstall the software.
Now I have to root again, but at lest the phone is back
Thanks for the help

Tip: bootloader do not need to be unlocked to use that tool.
I used it to fix bricked, before i unlocked mine.
But i'll guess it has to be rooted

The main reason for me not to unlock bootloader is to keep warranty.
Now that I have my phone back, sure it is going to be a great weekend

Issues after factory reset: No recovery, no root, no home button returning to desktop

Hi there,
Some weeks ago, after many months of low space problems, I did a factory reset instead of deleting app by app.
But after that, I started having some problems:
Home button doesn't returns to Home, but it still works for mousing off the screen when it's off
Recory is missing
I give apps root, but they don't turn root.
The home button ... well, I can survive without. The Recovery... I haven't used it since I installed it. But the root is very important, as I want to use many apps but I need root to use them.
So well, let's try another factory reset. But nothing changes. So... let's change the ROM. But hey! I need recovery for that...
I haved tried many times to root or unroot the mobile, but it doesn't works. I have done it using many ways in Windows and Ubuntu, but nothing works.
Do you have any ideas about how can I fix this problems?

Instead of tweaking your device by rooting it or unlocking it.. I suggest you to repair the phone's software by PCC or SEUS!

To install recovery use xparts from playstore!
Or if your bl is unlocked then flash any kernel using fastboot! Every kernel with itself has an inbuilt recovery!

I managed to access recovery. And I installed a ROM, hoping that it could repair easily all my problems, plus upgrading my phone at the same time. I installed this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880321
I downloaded all the .zips I saw, and thinking that I could merge all them into a single one, I did. I though that this was the way to do it.
I did a backup of the phone, and erased cache, dalvik and did a factory reset. I installed the merged .zip, and after reboot:
The phone boots, the "Sony Ericsson" screen lasts for a few seconds, then I get a black screen for a few seconds, and the "Sony Ericsson" screen appears again, to dissapear, and keeps looping indefinitely.
I have been trying for a while, but I'm unable to boot the Recovery or even the Download mode. Maybe I don't know how? What I do:
Press power until it boots, wait until Sony Ericsson logo appears, start pressing Vol Down again and again <-- This worked for me earlier for accessing recovery before installing the zip
Hold power, home, and Vol Down (When doing this, after each 10 seconds (after the Sony Ericsson logo fades away, the mobile vibrates shortly, like when powering it off)
Hold power, home, and Back
Hold power and back
Hold and Vol up
Have I bricked it? How could I repair this for installed each zip one by one?
Guess that by now, I'll have to search my wristwatch.
To Enter Recovery:
You have to press back key again and again while booting(on Sony logo appears).
To Download mode:
Power off the phone.
Then plug the usb while pressing back key.
To Fastboot mode:
Power off the phone.
Then plug the usb while pressing menu key.
To Install a stock rom:
Download a Stock rom.
Then flash it via Flashtool.
or
Use PC Companion to repair.

This was the solution. I though that it was some ****ty software that wouldn't work properly, but I have to say that it's intuitive, and have repaired my phone without problems.
Thanks a lot. This have returned my phone to the state of after-buy, which is why I did the factory reset that made so much problems. Thanks!

[Q] Phone is going crazy stuck in reboot and will not get service or wifi

My phone was perfectly fine this morning had no problems until I got out of class and was listening to music while it was plugged up to the car where it rebooted which happens but now I can't get it to stay on 5 seconds without doing a reboot. It also Can not find service and the NFC is freaking out what do I do? I also get system is not responding. I am on the latest version and it has not been rooted.

Option 1
open up the microSD slot.
locate the little red button.
Hold it for 3 seconds (this will hard power it off)
Then hold power for 3 seconds to boot up.
success?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Option 2
Do a factory reset (you'll have to be quick, but after 5.6 times you'll get there)
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Option 3
Plug device into PC, and run PC Companion and do a restore.
That will fix it.

Yes. Both options 2 and 3 will delete all user data. You can make a backup of user data using PC companion. And then restore this at a later date.
But it sounds like the reason for your reboots is a conflict. restoring user data will probably give you the same error.

There's Safe Mode for Android too

Hold power button until power off dialog comes on
Press and hold Power Off until another dialog asks if you want to boot to safe mode
Boot to safe mode, troubleshoot (likely a recently installed app giving you problems)

So you have plugged it into PC Companion and done a restore?
Then on your device, (Ultra)
go into settings,
then find backup and restore, and then do a factory reset.
That will delete all user data off.
If it still does it then there must be a hardware issue with the Ultra.
You could try flashing an FTF file, but that will only reinstall the OS like you did with the PC companion.
Take it back to the shop and tell them.

Sorry being off topic how to do factory reset as you mentioned in option 2?
I know 2 ways to reset one by pressing red button and second by pressing power and vol+ buttons. And other to factory reset go to settings, and then factory reset.
Is there any other way to do it?

I am on complete stock, no root. I tried the safe mode boot suggestion and it worked for me. Press the power on/off button on the side of the phone, until the Power off/Airplane mode options appear in the centre of the screen. Press and hold the first on-screen option (Power off), then the safe mode menu appears. I had no idea the menu was there until I tested it. I didn't boot to safe mode, as my phone is working fine, so it was unnecessary for me to do that. The option is definitely there though.

Help with installing TWRP Recovery

Hello Good People,
My Z Ultra arrived and it was already rooted from the previous owner.
I booted up into TWRP and couldn’t do a backup because it would not display completely on the screen, so I couldn’t select an features.
I had to reboot the device by holding the power button and the volume up key.
Sadly I can no longer access recovery.
I have holding the volume up button will reboot but it simply takes me to the desktop(normal boot)
I have rooted all my devices but this Z Ultra seems a bit more complicated than others.
Can some please walk me through the steps of exactly what files are needed to get me recovery back.
Also I have the TWRP Manager.app, can I choose a file can do it that way? if so which file name do I pick from the long list?
T.I.A.
I thought I resolved my issue by downloading:
ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.7.154-BETA.installer.zip
Option 1
And it reinstalled TWRP!
Device rebooted into TWRP, I created a background and rebooted the device.
Now I cannot boot/reboot into Recovery again;(
Someone said to press the up/down button a couple of times when you see the pink LED. I dont get a pink LED it goes straight to green.
Can someone please tell me what to do?
T.I.A.
The recovery may still be installed.
Turn off the device, when you see the Sony logo and the green light, hold the "volume up" button.
You should boot to recovery.
Another option is to install Xposed and the Wanam module. Then activate the Power Options menu, which allows you to reboot to recovery.
Thanks for the response.
I was able to get into recovery, and do a backup.
After the backup the phone will not reboot. It has been hours now and no button combo will get it to boot up
Need serious help please
Did you back up your TA initially? You might need to reflash to stock and start again using flashtool and the necessary ftf file.
I would recommended this. It was what helped me start off on my XZU.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904

Yes, got it resolved.
It must have been a battery related issue during the flashing.
In the end combined with a hard reset got the device back up and running.
I lost my root and everything so now I need to locate a ROM for this Sony version.
Thanks!
Ndrutil on the Play Store is an easy way to boot from the rom into recovery also..

Xperia Z Ultra Stuck on Sony screen

my xperia device is stuck on the sony logo. wont pass that part. doesn't go into flashmode or fastboot, nothing. what can I do plz I need help. cant use flashmode on the pc as the computer never recognizes the phone bcuz it doesn't go into fastboot mode.
If your phone even starts, then fastboot and flashmode should work just fine. What's the last thing you did before it wouldn't boot?
1. Hold VOL UP while plugging it in the USB on your computer. The LED should get blue
2. Either use fastboot through command-line or use QuickIMG to boot a custom kernel with recovery.
3. Flash or restore a ROM

Do the following exactly as outlined.
1- with the phone DISCONNECTED from your pc or charger, hold the power and up buttons until it vibrates and turns off.
2- open the flashtool and select an ftf to flash, and wait for the message that asks you to connect the phone in flash mode.
3- the phone must still be off. Hold the down button and connect the phone to the usb port in the pc. The flashing will start.
I tried that it goes back to the sony logo.

How did you try to unroot? It's weird if you don't have working fastboot or flashmode, and without those, you're pretty much screwed. Those two should work even if you screw up big-time, like flashing a wrong kernel, but you must have done something weird if they stopped working?
And let me get this straight, you are pressing and HOLDING the volume buttons when you plug it to your computer, right? Make sure that the device is completely off by pressing and holding POWER + VOL UP. It'll vibrate a couple of times. Note that you're not supposed to be connected to the computer, since it'll then just boot again.
Then press and HOLD VOL UP for fastboot (blue LED), OR VOL DOWN for flashmode (green LED flashing shortly)
You probably already know these steps, but we have to make it absolutely certain that it's a hardware issue, and not an issue with the thing you do

I was going to flash the stock rom using flashtool right but everytime i tried to put the phone into fastboot mode it would go to the battery icon. At this point the phone was working fine. But no fastboot mode at all. Then i factory erased the phone through twrp. After that it doesnt boot up. Just sony logo no led lights. Even if i do vol up or down. Straight to the sony logo. Vol up plus power button, vibrates couple of times. I redo the process and it goes back to the sony logo.

The thing is that the screen shouldn't power on when you enter fastboot. The only thing that should go on is the blue LED. I don't use TWRP, and I don't know how it wipes stuff and if it only deletes user data, or if it formats the system. If it does the latter, then it literally wipes the system partition, making it empty, so if you ever format the system, you should flash a new ROM ASAP. A little late for that now though, but I'm still not convinced that fastboot isn't working.
ONE LAST TIME
NOTE: The device should be disconnected from the computer.
1. Turn the device OFF by holding and pressing the POWER button and VOL UP. It should be disconnected from the computer by now. Got it? Nice.
2. Plug the USB-cable in the device first, since it's easier to plug it into the computer. Do not plug it into the computer yet. Only the Ultra.
3. Now HOLD VOL UP. Just hold it in.
4. Stick the USB cable, which is already inside your Ultra, to your computer WHILE still holding VOL UP.
5. The blue LED above the screen should light up now. The display should not power on or anything else. The blue LED is the only thing that should turn on.
Still nothing?

4. Stick the USB cable, which is already inside your Ultra, to your computer WHILE still holding VOL UP.
5. The blue LED above the screen should light up now. The display should not power on or anything else. The blue LED is the only thing that should turn on.
Still nothing?

Check whether the drivers have been properly installed in ur PC. If u can't get into flashmode try another system to flash the ftf. Procedure hold volume down while connecting the usb to plug. U will see a green led blink.

Oh! You probably haven't installed fastboot on your computer. Download and install, and try again.

Wooooohoooo phones alive jajaja. Thankssss. Though i got some more questions. First time i unlocked boatloader i was told to backup my TA files. what do i do with those now? I just flashed a stock c6806 unbranded rom. When i try to update the phone through settings it says it couldn't verify the update. i retried the process through sony companion app, and it says my phone is modded so it wont do anything.

The TA partition is where your DRM keys are. It's a good idea to backup those keys in case you want to revert to complete stock in the future, or when you need to send it in for repairs. Unlocking the bootloader will remove the keys, but since your device was - weirdly enough, already bootloader unlocked, I don't think you even had DRM keys to start with, which is again, very weird.
No biggie though. Gone is gone. The reason why PC Companion told you that it's been modified, is because you're rooted, and it knows it, so you'll have to unroot before you update. That's only if you're updating through official channels, but you have a second alternative; Flashtool. It allows you to flash stock Sony ROMs, or FTF-files.
But you're saying that you flashed a stock 6806 ROM now, and that's what? 5.0.2? Why don't you just download the .368-update (Android 5.1.1)? Then you'll be on the latest version.

I did unlock bootloader myself, TA file were backup. My phone is the 6806 model. The only ftf file i found on xda with a working link was for 4.2 jellybean. I just restored my TA files am going to reflash that stock rom and see what it says now.
