Why do we still have to pay people to SIM unlock phones? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I thought the internet meant that all the necessary tools were online. So why do I now have to take my Galaxy s3 mini to a dealer in a shop?

You aren't able to contact your carrier for the unlock code?

[Q] Unlocking - Need Minor Advice!

Hey Guys,
I live in Ontario, Canada and ended up buying an AT&T Atrix 4G online that was supposed to be unlocked however is not...(I'm with Rogers)
I know the typical unlock method buy purchasing an unlock code from some sites or a local cell phone unlock shop, however I have been hearing about how one can call the service provider and given the right reasons - receive an unlock code from them.
My problem is if I were to try this out, would I call my service provider? Rogers
OR
Would I call the original manufacturer of this phone? AT&T
I do understand that part of the process of getting the unlock code involves the IMEI # of the phone.
Thanks,
If it's an AT&T phone, they will have unlock codes. Worst that can happen is they say no. If they do, pay to get the codes from one of the reputable sites.
mobileincanada is a pretty good site, you might find something cheaper. who knows. sucks that you were lied to overall.
I need to try and find a number I can call from Canada which will allow me to talk to someone from AT&T who realizes my situation...I can't seem to get through.

Sim Unlock

How can i sim unlock my mini without purchasing one of those unlock codes ?
if you bought your phone with contract after the finalization of the contract you can ask to the mobile company for a code to unlock it.
That is the problem, i bought the phone broken so I dont know to which carrier is it locked and i cant ask anyone to unlock it

[Q] factory unlock at&t htc one?

currently i have samsung galaxy note 2 but it hassles me a lot hence i am considering to order htc one 64gb version from at&t carrier but the problem is as i am in india, i want to sim unlock it, is there anyway to unlock it straightaway or it will make me wait for 90 days to get unlock code from at&t? if it is so i will consider buying developer edition...
there are two ways.....if u have a contract with att and u have been a good customer, they will unlock it for you by calling customer service.... i have five lines and i signed the contract with att on Apr 28 2013 and i called on May 22 13 asked them about unlock codes. the customer service guy just gave me the five lines codes "i don't know if i was lucky or that was normal"....... otherwise you can buy the unlock code from ebay for $6 or so...... or buy the phone directly unlocked from HTC
First of all, by definition, you can't 'factory unlock' something that comes out of the factory as 'locked'. So the answer to your title is 'No'.
Now, I understand what you actually wanted to do (sim unlock a factory locked phone), so:
If you look one sub-forum up at AT&T HTC One General, there is a thread discussing the different ways to get the unlock code for an AT&T locked HTC One. This includes buying it on eBay, other places where you can pay for an unlock code, and also calling AT&T directly.
Having said that, why do you want the AT&T version of the One? Why don't you just go to HTC website and buy the phone directly? It's unlocked and unbranded and you don't have to bother dealing with AT&T. Furthermore, if you are in India and not an AT&T customer, do you realize how difficult it is to buy a phone without actually having an AT&T postpaid account? It's not impossible, but it's not easy. I know this because I experienced this myself.

[Q] Cheapest, most reliable place to get an unlock code for the Gear S (T-Mobile)?

Bought two Gear S' from some lady who didn't care for them. Want to unlock it to use it for ATT. They are both financed and they will be cut off due to nonpayment at any given time so T-Mobile will probably not provide the unlock code. Any reliable and cheap unlockers out there?

Are you sure it is locked in the first place? For example, my Canadian version of the Gear S came unlocked out of the box. If you do need to unlock, I always use cellunlocker.net, although there are other options out there too.
100% sure it's locked: i put an ATT SIM card in it and asks for the network unlock code. Cellunlocker wants $25 for the unlock. That's $50 for both of them. Above my pay grade.

pls how can i unlock Galaxy A10

Any other way to unlock Samsung Galaxy A10 apart from buying unlock code.
Depends where you live. I know for a fact in Canada you just need to live chat Samsung and provide proof of purchase. Then they'll provide you with an unlock code.
There's also software like Z3X or Miracle Box that will unlock the phone for you. But usually it requires the phone to be rooted. Same goes for MSL Reader (play store app)
I'm not sure about other countries, but Samsung loves Canada so much that they give us our own models for their flagship products. Or it's government censorship. I haven't quite figured it out yet.. lol
