Can't make phone calls, phone won't go through self service - Sprint HTC One (M9)

So, as the title mentions, I am unable to make phone calls or go through self service on my phone. I can still send texts over 3G/4G, and I've already RUU'd back to the latest version.
The error message I'm receiving when making calls: 'The number or code you are trying to dial is invalid' blah blah
Anyone else come across this issue?
EDIT: I'm starting to think it might be a network issue and not just me....

try ##72786# and reset your data (this wont reset the phone) the phone will reboot and go through the activation process, profile update, and prl update. See if that works, could be a network issue though but thats a bit strange. Try changing locations to see if it helps

Yep, tried that. I actually took it into the Sprint store yesterday and they were stumped by it as well. I can still text and browse the internet, but no calls. We'll see what they have to say when I go pick it up in around an hour....
Thanks for the troubleshooting tips though!

Sprint ended up ordering a replacement phone so I should have it before the end of the week.

Put it on WIFI and try ##72786#. Doing ##72786# on the Radio Data Connection is a total crap shoot (both LTE and 3G) on the M9.

The Sprint store techs couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so they ordered me a new one haha. I must have done something real bad with it!
Calls over my Bluetooth stereo weren't working either so I'm glad I got a new one. No issues so far

No More Roaming on Verizon With Sprint Mogul After 3.16 rom / 3.27 radio Upgrade

Is it just me or is anyone else unable to roam on verizon towers after the new rom/radio upgrade (3.16/3.27)? I get a recording while roaming "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, We're sorry, we're currently unable to authenticate your phone, Please try your call again. If you continue to experience problems please hang up and dial #8899 from your wireless phone"
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
What PRL do you have?
I never tried making calls but I don't roam on their towers anymore when it comes to data. I just get the triangle and 1x and no web browsers will let me connect to any sites. I kinda just gave up on it since I only needed it in the DC Metro.
I can roam with the new rom. im using prl 60610 and data roaming works as well.
kind of ironic because it didn't work before for me
1X roaming works on Alltel and VZW with 60610 and 3.x ROM here, but EvDO roaming is a no go on Alltel, even though it works fine with 60610 and 2.x ROM.
I guess you are not the only one having the problem. it's a no for me for both prl 60610/60611.
However I am only having the problme at home. I can roam onto vzw at different locations (voice and 1x data) $%^%^&#!$#@!$
People say it may have something to do w/ a-key which is blank on my phone ...

Using PRL 60610. I downgraded my phone back to radio 1.40 and it worked fine but it will not work with the new one. I guess roaming had to be given up for GPS.
Problem Solved. Seems like Sprint's System wanted to do the PRL update themselves for record purposes because after I got the rep to shoot a new prl (60611) roaming worked. I then downgraded to 60610 (best one for me) and viola it stuck. everything is working now.

Ok, so how did you fix this again? Can you give me the current setup of your phone or the steps you took to get to where you are?
Here is what I have done so far:
- Flashed from 2.17/1.47.1 to 3.16/3.27 and got the no Verizon roaming issue you described.
- Figured it was an issue with the new ROM, so I then downgraded back to the stock 2.17/1.47.1 ROM from the HTCAmerica website. (The downgrade wiped all my settings for MDN and MSID) However, the issue persisted.
- I updated the PRL to 60611. Still no luck.
- Called Sprint, who initiated an over the air PRL update of their own to 60611. Still no Verizon roaming. Sprint says they are "investigating" and will get back to me, whatever that means...
The only other thing I can think to do is to downgrade again back to 2.09/1.40.
Also another question, when you view ##778#, does your phone show anything on the "A-Key" page under the "Authentication Key" setting now that you have roaming working? Mine is currently blank, and I have read a couple threads talking about needing to figure it out, but those users all seemed to be Verizon customers. I would be interested to find out if Sprint customers have that setting or not.
This issue is driving me nuts, and any help is greatly appreciated.
Call sprint technical support and tell them you need an "HLR Reload". If they don't know what this is, ask to speak to someone who does.

Wow. Genius! Got Sprint technical support on the phone and asked for the "HLR Reload." The guy knew exactly what I was talking about and was able to do it right away. I am now able make calls and get data while roaming (currently using 2.17/1.47.1).
Thanks again!
glad to know it worked

wow, now i know what i need to do w/ my 3.16 rom
edit: got a call from spint. the tech guy said that he found an authentication failure on my account and reset it. will test the roaming again when i get home. he also had no clew what the "HLR reload" is...
edit2: whatever reset sprint did at their end seems to work. voice/1x roaming is working now, still no evdo though.
Still wont work for me *sigh*

I called and had them do this, but i had no luck. Still no EVDO roaming in places where there should be. I can make and recieve roaming call and data roam in 1X but evdo is gone. This is on both the 60610 and 60611 PRL. EVDO roaming worked on both PRL's with the 1.47 radio and 2.17 rom.
Any more ideas?
well I thought I didn't have these problems, but now I'm not certain. I don't think I've ever been able to EVDO roam on verizon, at least not sice I started paying attention which was already after moving to a 2.17 with 1.40 radio and orginal PRL. I know verzion has evdo in this area, but sprint doesn't. Maybe there is no agreement here for evdo becuase of that? I guess it couldn't hurt to try this trick and see if I get it.
I found more problems using 3.16. I did encounter the roaming authentication error. So I called, got the HLR reload. That made things MUCH worse. Now nothing works. My MSID and whatnot are all correct and I see signals, but can't make calls or data connections. Sprint tried some things but nothing worked. I'm going to do a hard reset and see what happens.
Sprint was surpisingly willing to work with me knowing that I am using the test rom though... but in the end still suggested I revert to an official rom when nothing worked out.
Anyway, not sure I'd reccomend the HLR reload on the 3.16... try at your own risk.
holy crap
sorry to hear that
if you get it figured out, lemme know what fixed it.
I suspect sprint just hit the wrong button. I hard rest... still no dice, but I noticed that dialing *2 does work.. normal numbers and network don't. Seems like an authentication issue. I doubt seriously it has anything to do with the rom, but I just flash 2.17, casue otherwise I don't hink I'll get far with sprint.
Now when I try to make it call it tells me the phone has not been activated. (with 3.16 I just got the call end dings imeediately)
SO when I fix this and flash back to 3.16, will I dare to try this again after roaming gets broken again?... tough call.
Edit... still need to fix MDN and MSID in the 2.17 .. more soon.
Edit: fixed MDN and MSID in 2.17... now having the same problem as in 3.16... ding ding ding... no call. Looks like I have to call sprint again.
ON the phone with sprint now. Have rebooted for them a couple of times. This guy is still stumped and he doesn't seem generically ignorant.
I started a new thread for my issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1881522#post1881522
You might want to read it before doing any HLR updates in 3.16 though. I'm on my third rom today and a few hours with sprint tech and I still can't make calls.
(EDIT
SOLVED... see above thread. It seems they messed me up badly when they did the HRL reload... however.. it doesn't have to be done badly... at least now we know the fix if it happens to someone else.. so don't let my experience stress you too much. Now to upgrade roms again.
and voice roaming works now..
Roaming not working
ahhh!!! after the upgrade, i cannot roam on vzw...
Called and spoke to several reps... no one knows what HLR Reload is... according to them turning the phone off and taking out the battery for a few minutes will force the HLR reload....
I don't know what to do.... These reps are impossible to deal with.. Anyone have any suggestions?

Phone does not work after S-Off

Well I s-off and rooted the phone however now my phone is not working. I try to make a phone call and it says error #16 switch 237. If someone tries calling me it just goes straight to voicemail.
1) Make a call and stay on the line til sprint picks up
2) Have another cell phone/home phone to receive a call from the sprint rep that will help you.
3) They will do everything with no questions asked, voila.

If you don't have another phone no need to trip, they don't require you to have a 2nd phone they just prefer it.
Reboot your phone and let the handsfree activation complete then goto menu, settings, update phone, and update the profile. Now your phone works.

I tried master resetting the phone putting in ##786#, using the msl code, nothing. I called Sprint and they couldn't solve it. I tried *228 too, that didn't help it. I'm gonna try RUU'ing the phone next to see if it will work.

Mine made it through handsfree activation without issue, and I haven't had any of these problems..... Guess I got lucky, or just beat the rush.
So after calling into sprint (my E3D had the same Error 16 problem), apparently the Error 16 is a new security feature that is triggered by some change in the way the phone connects to the network. Some software changes can cause it (as can a ##RTN# apparently).
Not surprisingly, there's a bit of a hold time tonight to get through if you get the error message (about 12 minutes here). If you've got the error, call now and sit on hold -- they close in a little over 30 minutes.
Also, unlike other Sprint troubleshooting, call from the phone with the problem -- but have another they can call back on.
After I got s off, my phone automatically activated itself......then, when I made a phone call, sprint security intercepted my call, and asked me to verify my identity.....and then told me their system didn't recognize my phone!!! They told me to power down, then up in 30 seconds... Funny thing is that I was surfing with no issues prior to the call, ur I thought I'd share that with you guys.
Sprint has officially been put in the know!!!! Can u imagine all the 3D owners having these security breaches!!!! All coincidentally???? Lmfao!!!
I wish i would have known before hand that this would 16 my phone as mines a work issued phone so i cant just call in like a normal user. Is there a known local method that works to get this reset? If so please post the steps as im sure many others will encounter this problem. The error call does not hand me off to a rep, it just hangs up.
Same Here
I also couldnt make calls or text after flashing. I called Sprint gave them the error code (from failed text msg) She asked me to remove the battery and give her the ID code and in 2 mins it worked perfectly. I did not offer up any reasons for the problem and she did not ask. Couldn't have been easier. If one agent gives you a hard time or is clueless hang up and try again.

[Q] how do you manually activate your phone?

how in barnacliville do i do it!
##72786# should work and it wont erase your data...
##786# will reset the device and your data
##3282# and you can go to data profile, menu and then restore.
you need your msl for them all - i can help with that if you dont know how
or lastly you could call sprint haha
EDIT: you can also go to Home page - Menu - Settings - system updates - And then try update profile and prl.

[SOLVED]SMS Error - Radio Interface Resource Shortage

SOLUTION: You need to call Sprint (from another phone - 1.888.211.4727) and tell them you can't call or text and you are getting the error "SMS Error - Radio Interface Resource Shortage - Cause Code: 64, Error Class: 2" They wil refresh you on the network, takes about 5 mins. Hope this helps
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone having this issue after Revolutionary? I NEVER had this problem before and it started happening to me even before I put my own ROM on. I cannot send ANY texts. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem and what you did to fix it. Tried a wipe and reflash and still happening. Any ideas?
Also: Cause Code: 64 Error Class: 2
Your going to have to call Sprint. There is someone who asked how to manually do it, check the Q&A area for a thread called Manually reset or something like that.

Same thing happened to me after rooting. I was also unable to make calls or send SMS. Got the error code 16 when trying to make a call. I stayed on the line and was connected to a Sprint rep who told me they reset my info which fixes the problem. Told me to turn my phone off for 30 seconds then back on. calls and sms working again.
Sprint Rep was on the ball and new what to do as soon as he started talking. I assume they got a lot of these calls in the last 12 hours.

it happened to me too after I did s-off. I could not get my sms working and did reset and everything. I ended up flashing the stock image available here in the forums. Non Rooted - Call Failure

A friend of mine has been having a problem with his phone. Its not rooted. This seems to be a known problem as he had this a year ago, he went to the sprint store and the guy flashed something that resolved it. He has data but no signal bars. When he makes a call he gets "call origination attempt failed" error. His phone was stolen, and he just got the replacement and now the problem is back. Tried updating profile/PRL to no avail. Kind of a strange problem so I figure someone would have the answer here. Any ideas?
HW Version is 003
Software 3.15.651.16.710RD
Baseband is 1.12.11.1119
Kernel 3.4.10-g014d33e
Tell him to try a factory reset it. Then call sprint and have then reset the data connection.

Sorry - I left that out, we tried that as well. No change. Whats weird is the phone worked for a day, then stops, just like when he bought it new. Im guessing this doesnt happen rooted, since im sure 99% of the population on here is rooted. Supposedly its a common problem when the phone isnt rooted.
Rooted or not has no bearing on being able to make calls.
If the phone is fully stock, sprint has tools to see what's going on with it.
Has he tried refreshing his profile? Does he have data?

He has data which is weird. Just cant make calls. Browses the web just fine. He already called sprint who has no idea lol.
Sprint should have him try to clear his config. I can't remember the code off hand, ##786#, or ##72786#. It basically wipes the NAM profile settings associated with his account from the phone. On the next reboot, an OTA activation occurs.
This may be destructive in that one of those does a factory wipe too. I can't remember which.
He should ask for level2/3 support if the first tier person is helpless.

I do remember the last time, we did that and it made no change. The only thing that fixed it is he was told to go to a sprint store because they flash something special and it corrects the issue permanently. Which it did for him, until they sent him a new phone. Very weird issue.
If you've tried all the ideas posted here then I'd recommend just taking the phone into sprint or have them send your friend a new phone.

As a latest update - Sprint sent him now his 3rd phone and its been working for a little over a week. Guess it was hardware after all.
