[Q] MX Pro Android TV Box Root Help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So i purchased an MX Pro Android TV Box off ebay afew weeks ago. I am wanting to install some rooted apps and be able to browse ect. I attempted to install supersu as the box said it was pre rooted but it cannot seem to find the su binary folder and therefor wont install, i tried afew others with no luck whatsoever. My question is if someone could point me in the right direction on how to successfuly root it i have tried tons of apps so far with no success even followed afew guides. Most of them just say device not supported and some throw up errors.
Board:m201
Brand:MBX

Device:MX Pro S805
Android:4.4.2
SDK_INT:19

Can you clarify? I'm not sure what you mean. I don't find rooting instructions in a thread here.
Are you assuming the Trio Stealth Pro 7c and the Trio Stealth Pro 7 are the same thing, or do you know that they are?
Or do you mean it's already rooted out of the box, as the OP (a fellow newbie) reports here? (and what does that mean? That it even has a working Superuser.app and compatible su installed?
The manual (http://www.triomp3.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Droid-stealth-manual.pdf <sic; that's the link on the site, even though it's named "Droid-stealth-manual") for the Trio Stealth Pro 7 says that one can do this:
1) Tap the setting icon.
2) Tap About tablet.
3) Tap System update, follow the onscreen instructions.
4) Tap Install system update only if there is new version available and you have the update file saved to your SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30709653#post30709653 (newer posts especially) seems like a good place to start with custom ROMs.

No it's not!
Trio Stealth 7C is rooted
I've seen a number of posts questioning whether the trio stealth 7C is rooted or not. So I tried a couple of things on my new tablet.
Since receiving it, I have only put CWM recovery 6 on it, which AFAIK does not change anything about root access.
My conclusion is that my tablet is rooted.
1) Using "adb shell", type "su" and did not get an error
2) installed terminal emulator, and typed "su" and did not get an error and the prompt went to a "#" symbol
3) Installed Titanium Backup Root and did backups successfully.
For comparison, I tried the first item above on some other phone that is not rooted and got an error about no having permission.
I suppose its possible that I did something along the way to get it rooted, but it certainly was not on purpose!
Trio Stealth Lite
I bought the Trio Stealth Lite, the 4.3" mini tablet, for my 3 yr old daughter as a traveling tablet. It's a perfect size for her tiny hands to bring along everywhere. It's much more portable than her 10" Nabi 2, plus at just $50, I don't care if she drops and breaks or loses it.
I wanted to add that this tablet to my surprise did come per-rooted, straight out of the box! After charging it up, I wanted to see by any chance it was per-rooted, since another kids tablet she had, the Meep was also per-rooted. (Side note, the Meep is a horrible tablet, I don't recommend it, returned after 1 week. I won't go into details, it'd be it's own separate forum). So, I installed Aptoide onto it, then Titanium Backup, which will tell you right away after you install and open it, if you have root access and indeed it did, straight from the box. After that, I downloaded and installed SuperSU and Busy Box, with no problems, which adds to the fact it's fully rooted already. Then I downloaded Lucky Patcher, since it has an option to install the normal Google Play Store or the modded version of it, since this tablet only came with the Amazon Store for apps/games. The Play Store works great on it, haven't came across an app/game that can't be installed onto it yet.
The best thing I did probably was after installing Root Explorer, I changed the "void fastb" file to swap the internal/external SD cards, which had only 1.7GB originally for apps/games, to now with the externalSD, as the internalSD with 29.7GB (32GB microSD), for apps/games! At first using a class 4 sdcard I had laying around, it'd have glitches sometimes not recognizing the externalSD after rebooting, but then I popped in a class 10 sdcard, the Sandisk Ultra SDXC (red/gray color card), and have had no problems ever since and still has 23GB+ for more apps/games! I also tweaked a few things to make it faster and longer battery life, which helped a lot. Its definitely the best $50 toy she has, I think..
So since, this Trio tablet came pre-rooted, there's a good possibility the other Trio's come pre-rooted too, and to test of yours is pre-rooted or not, you can simply follow what I did with my smaller Trio, first downloading Aptoide, then it's repos (for more apps). Using Aptiode, search, download and install Titanium Backup, SuperSU and Busy Box to confirm root access. Lucky Patcher and Root Explorer can also be found in Aptiode.
Oh by the way, I only had to install the Play Store, using Lucky Patcher, the other Google Apps that usually accompany it, was already installed on the tablet.
I would like to install a custom recovery for it, in case it ever crashes or freezes, and install back the factory ROM. It does have its own recovery, but can only be accessed thru the settings menu, which is no good, if it was to ever freeze up or can't boot. I tried all the different combos with the power, volume, and reset button, but can't ever access the recovery menu that way. It just takes me to the Android guy, lying open with a red exclamation point sticking out of its belly. Using the recovery thru the settings menu, actually takes you to a regular recovery menu, where you can pick to reboot, factory wipe, upgrade from SD, ect..
I tried installing CWM thru Rom Manager but it didn't have a recovery specific to this tablet and I wasn't sure if I could install a different tablets recovery onto this one..
If anyone happens to know how or where I can find one for this tablet, please let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it! :fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advanced!

Greetings, had a quick question for you. This was a great post, as I was having issues rooting this and had heard this device is aleady rooted. I was able to install Aptoid onto it with no issue, but when I tried Titanium Backup, it said the device was NOT rooted..? Do I need to install SuperSU first, then titanium backup? Thanks in advance if you get a chance to respond. I was able to get this device for $20 with a giftcard and was stoked to see how you got it setup.
Thanks!
Trio Stealth Lite Flixster problem
Hi,
I got the Trio Stealth Lite 4.5 inch screen and got a problem. I cannot play videos from my flixster account. I downloaded a ota root keeper and it did not help. So, can someone help me on how to root the device so I can use this device better, I don't want to mess it up. Thanks
Tried and thought i got it, but...
I have a Trio Stealth Pro 7c that I have been working on for over a week now to get Google play. It came rooted out of the box so I followed the above post with success. I downloaded Aptiode market, Titanium Backup, Busy Box, and all the rest suggested in that order. I loaded a mod version of Play that worked and I was playing games and loving it!! Then I powered down and went to bed. Next power on it had done a system reset and taken out all old markets and left only google play which was great except it seemed to add a partition to the internal memory which now wont allow me to download any apps and has erased all previous apps i loaded. It will fully function and I can use other app programs but if I download a google play app it says no room ( i now have have 2 internal storage menus 1 showing full with 35.44 mb apps and the second showing 1.71 gb total space with 1.65gb available.) Any thoughts on how I can either undo the partition so i can change to the original settings and start over or how to just undo the system restore that some how takes place at each power off? Not sure how I did it either! Thanks!

[Q] rooted irulu 4.2.2 tablet?

hello,
i recently bought a cheap irulu tablet off ebay. it's running 4.2.2, and i'm not quite sure if it's rooted or not. i've read that most of their tablets are rooted right out of the box, so i downloaded 4 or 5 root checkers from the marketplace and some said it was rooted and some said it was not. i know that it does have su and busybox installed, but i don't have one of those superuser apps that request permission or anything. i can browse my full phone with any file explorer. i installed titanium backup, and it says on the main screen that root access is ok, but then it will pop up an error message that says:
BusyBox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root. There's something wrong with your "su" binary and/or "Superuser" app.
can anyone help me? i tried installed a superuser app to see if that helped, but it didn't.
anybody? *chirp chirp*
heh im guessing no one is rooting this tablets
I just bought My lil brother one of this Irulu's ones and i guess he's gonna stay Stock Xp

We cant give up that easy my friend ....
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone managed to make any progress with this? I recently bought an Irulu ax105 tablet running 4.2.2 and I'm having the same issues as the opening post. At first glance the tablet appears to be rooted, but I get that same message in titanium backup. Root Checker says that the device is rooted, but Busybox won't work because it says that the installer hasn't got root access. I also can't update the binaries in superuser because root access fails. Seems like it's not properly rooted.
Thanks.
I have a irulu that also said it was rooted. Installed su just fine. Was wondering about a recovery or ROM. Mine is 4.0.4. Tablet PC.

Custom rom already probably not. Somebody has to make one. There is a lot a rom can give but for myself I only need a custom rom to remove everything i dont need or wanna spend hours removing within the 4.2.2. These chinese tablets usually come with only the bare essentials installed. I would suggest gaining root and having fun optimizing it yourself. The first step when I go about creating a rom is getting jellybean just the way i want it without anything like games or useless apps. Then dumping your system and creating a base rom from what you got. Then you can remove the unnecessary, add any compatible extras...repack and install. Make it generic but original and youve got something you can adfly for any others on your model of tablet. You get some cash and the satisfaction that youve helped others with the ability for a custom roms. Thats all the easy parts unfortunately though. I doubt i should delve into that. Its possible you may get a recovery for another like tablet to work.
As for root thats easy. I chose to use Bin4rys tool. Google bin4ry and root restore its should be relatively easy with the correct adb drivers. I have 2 chinese tablets, one a quantum axis 7" and an irulu ak303 7". Aside from the fact that the irulu is pink and doesnt sport an hdmi out or rear camera, and uses a rockchip....they are identical in almost every way down to hardware. The adb drivers for the quantum installed via vista online as soon as i plugged it in, however I had to go to the www(.)irulu(.)net for the other. Then it was just down to starting up bin4rys progger and selecting each option till one showed print onscreen, and a tablet restart.
For future reference to anyone else finding their way here looking for root help on these tablets: If you dont have su installed, cant install su, apps say no root(or only half say root true), root only apps dont ask for permissions(or do but fail regardless) or any combination of those examples you most likely dont have root. And even less likely dont have root if you did nothing to gain root just check.
To make it easier sry....download and install SU. If you cant your not rooted. If you can load it up and be sure it all works properly and all info seems to be correct. That doesnt prove root however. Download an app that requires root, any trusted one shall do. Access the app and do whatever needs to be done in order for the app to request permissions of SU. SU should pop up and ask basically yes or no...choose yes and then assure the app did what it was supposed to do correctly. If it did you have root....if it continuously fails, or doesnt request SU permissions at all you do not have root.

Yes suprising lol, and lucky. Somebody might have made a decent ROM for it but I don't know one I'm sorry. You do have a good start on android though, a cheap tablet with a generic unbloated system. Start off with skimming a few tutorials on how to create a ROM by dumping a current system without modification of the actual files just dumping. You'll have a good jump start on android knowledge and even a little more about tablet hardware. It really comes down to the want or need of a custom rom. Which I would suggest either buy a second test tablet or learn more about ROMs before heading into recoveries.

I also bought a iRulu 7" Tablet 16GB and it does not even work. When it comes up it keeps saying that the keyboard stopped and a bunch of android files stop working. If I do get to set it up when I reboot it clears all my data ?? I'm returning it but man $43.00 is not even worth it.
I have a Kindle and a samsung galaxy S4 and they run circles around this. The only good thing I could say is it used and gave me 64gb with a 64gb mini but tablet won't work long enough to use it. I always have to do a factory reset and wipe all my data to get it to maybe work. I did this for about 2 hours last night and then gave up.

Thanks for the guide ,been looking a while
Just rooted mine
Have the irulu 6.5 inch mtk6572 unlocked 3g. When you plug it into your PC, enable MTP to root.
Just rooted it using framaroot from this site. Had to use v1.9.1, after downloading and trying every one. Only glitch found was that the superuser does not work correctly in adb shell, can't seem to get from $ to # when typing su. Had to install clockworkmod Superuser app from the google play store, now superuser works. Even installed busybox.
Ok, now that I have superuser access, wohoo, what I really want is to expand my internal storage using a swap, haven't figured that out yet though but have been working on it. Afraid to flash a custom rom, but do know that if you reboot to bootloader you can try flashing differant recovery roms, if they are not compatible, fastboot won't let you, when you look at your tablet screen it even says wrong recovery and quits, which is good.
Anyways, if I could figure out how to edit the vold.fstab, vold.fstab.fat.nand and vold.fstab.nand correctly, who needs a custom recovery?
Another thought, risky but may work, even tried playing around with the above mentioned fstab files by copying the android-x86 4.4 RC2:
kern
al
ramdisk
.img
system.
cfg
init
rd.img
to either a SDCARD or the internal phone storage, somehow blocking out the internal phone storage and booting from one of those, it may work. I'm running the 4.4 RC2 on a seperate partiton dual booting in ubuntu on my desktop. Figured out that you do not even need to install 4.4 RC2 from a usb stick or cdrom, just copy those 4 files to the hard disk, create a data directory and it boots up. So my thing is, maybe it will work on a android tablet. Wouldn't mind running kitkat on my tablet, and shoot, the internal storage is only 514mb, won't miss that to much if I could run kitkat from 2.11gb of storage. Another downside though is that alot of apps you like may not work doing this, know some don't on my PC, but than again, that could just be a PC issue.

Hi, I would be grateful if someone could help me root and install a custom rom on this device. Please refer to the 3 images showing detailed information about my tablet.
Thank you very much for your help.
hey did you ever get this rooted?
Hi guys. I am also very much interested in root for this device. If we manage root on this it will become extremely useful. Please lets keep the thread active. II havent been in this forum for a while now as I didnt have an android device since I sold my Note 5.
I suggest we contact any of the forum members who are advanced in these matters to assist us with the root for Overdyve.
I'm Interested as Well
I'm going to try to dive in and see if I can figure out rooting my Overdryve. Since they don't seem to sell too many of these, I think we'll have to figure out how to do this without a nifty app. If anyone has any thoughts/pointers/useful articles, perhaps they'd share them.

I agree with you 100%. We really need to stick together on this and help each other out noting that these devices are very few. In the event we are unable to root the device is there any other way of enabling Google Play Services without requiring root? If I can get support for the Google services I will be good to go. Currently most of Google apps are not supported. Thankfully Google Maps works as I absolutely needed this to work as the Rand navigation software is not located in my country. I bought this to use away from USA and so far the most disappointing issue is that Rand disabled support for Google apps.
I will read widely and support you where I can.
I bought the Overdryve 7 a few days ago and there is literally NOTHING out there to help Root it, install a custom recovery, or how to install Google Play Services. I have tried rooting it with KingoRoot and King Root but to no avail. I haven't resorted to such generic methods to root anything since Towel root. This is why TWRP is essential to have.
Bump :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Please delete. Wrong thread.
Still nothing new
I have the Overdryve 7, and 8 Pro... hoping that someone out there much smarter than I has been working on this. Eager to make these thing earn their cost back.

overdryve 8 pro, been rooted for a while now, but Id like to get the OTA updates that ive missed over the last year, and i keep hitting a snag on the OTA verifier...
/system/bin/install-recovery.sh has ben modified... sha1 doesnt match...
there was another file too, but when I rooted, SU made a backup of the other file so i just switched it and it passed SHA1 check.... but SU didnt take a copy of this file for back up...
any ideas? ive tried changing it to a .bak but then fails becuase file is missing....
anyone have a stock 8 pro, unrooted ever, that they can turn on just USB debugging and try to copy the file original file out for me thru ADB debug if possible?
Or anyone know the ile contents for that file on Android 5.1.1 build LMY49I/N8_1_0_170516_275
I wanted up load more detailed specs.... I also have the new OTA update zip, like I said it just goes too error tho because the install-recovery.sh file sha1 doesn't match because I have rooted, and SU remove root and factory reset do not return the original file
Oops file is here

Has anyone figured out how to install Google play services and play store. I got as far as getting an early version of Google store to work without crashing but now it says it can't connect to the Google servers. Oh well something's gotta work.

Anyone able too get into Fastboot on this?
I can see the option and select it from the Engineering Menu, but the decice just sits on the RM logo then reboots normally.
There must be a key combo like too enter the Recovery Menu, but I cant figure it out.
Anyone?
Would someone be able to upload the stock launcher, please? I managed to root and build a custom recovery for my TND740, wanted to try it out.

[S905x] T95N Mini M8S Pro 2GB+8GB

Hi all,
I bought a cheap T95N Mini M8S Pro 2GB+8GB on AliExpress.
This is my second Android TV box and they all seem to come with a certain level of root.
The problem is that my Internet/TV provider has an app that blocks the streaming of live TV when it detects root. (Telenet Yelo)
Since I don't need root on this box, I tried un-rooting it.
I tried removing the SU files in the system\bin folder.
I now have flashed the 13.10.2016 version with the Amlogic USB Burning Tool. With this ROM version I was able to remove root through the SuperSU app. I even did a clear cache and factory reset to make sure there was nothing left.
Result: All root-checker apps tell me that the device is NOT rooted, but STILL that f*cking Yelo app gives me a notification that my device is rooted...
I spend more hours than I like to admit on this problem and I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.
Kind regards,

application showmax dont work, mxq pro 4k 2GB/16GB s905x

Hello. I have android TV Mxq pro 4k 2GB / 16GB, processor amlogic s905X,rtl8723bs, android 7.1. The problem concerns the application Showmax, when you try to play the video, the application displays the message "Your system is rooted" and the process is interrupted. Previously, I had android stick mk809III with android 4.4.2, showmax worked without a problem, because the stick was mechanically damaged, I had to buy something new. I have two questions, can I upload eg android 5.0 to mxq pro 4k? Is the problem on the side of the system? and the second question, is it possible to get around this showmax security? I've used several programs, including RootCloak, Magisk, RootSwitch. none helps. is there any solution to the problem? can edit build.prop file? please help.
Sorry for my english.
Will this software be good for my equipment?

To make it clearer, I need a factory firmware best without root, or such firmware that even after uploading, I will be able to perform a full unroot. Currently, on android, which I have 7.1 I can not perform a full unroot. I make it through SU and after rebooting everything returns to its original state. Root chcecker detects root.
I had a root done with the help of Magisk and as I wanted to uninstall it, it returns a message to me? what's the problem?
I would like to add before the "https" link
