Best Camera Setup in Cyanogenmod (11,12,12.1) - LG G2 Mini

Hi everyone! I wanted to open this thread to discuss one (and lately nearly the only) problem of cyano 11 12 or 12.1: camera quality.
I know, it is not possible to obtain the quality of stock rom taken pictures because of different apk implementations ecc, but maybe changing some values in a dedicated app would go near the wanted result.
I messed around a bit and read somethings, but nothing that could at least go near to stock camera apk results.
Have you got any idea, tricks or anything to get better pictures with Cyanogenmod?

I use it as my daily driver. My Z2 has been running the CM11 nightlies since the day they were released for the phone. What are you wondering exactly? I just saw the CM11S thread, but I'm not interested in it. If you're wondering, here's the CM11 downloads for the Z2: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=sirius
M9 is out I think. It's the stable version.
Can anyone please tell me whether the active noise cancelling (not only the microphone noise suspension, but also the one that works with the special sony headphones) will still work on Cm? I hate to lose that feature as it's pretty much the only reason why I bought the Z2 over others.

It is already expected that Sony proprietary technologies will not be available on AOSP releases unless Sony decided to release its source codes. There maybe decent alternatives such as x-Loud vs DSP Settings but still not comparable to Sony's current setup.
How is CM on the Z2 now? I've been waiting for awhile to try it out as some people seemed to be having some problems, there was a lot of talk of bugs with it.
Well I've been using CM Nightlies since they came out and I can't go back
CM is faster, you have ART, the sound mixer is allot better, tones of CM themes on the play store... etc...
With stock Sony Rom you have noise cancellation but the sound with those headphones and equalizer is bad I have to say. The X-reality is quite nice but unfortunately only works with the Sony App Album witch I personal don't like.
The only thing that I miss is the camera that in the Stock Sony Rom is better... but for the rest CM rules big time! :good:
How's the battery life on CM11?
Better than stock especially is used with ds battery saver on xposed
Im using the one plus one cyanogenmod ROM for the z2 I love it but it constantly crashes :/

Camera. I had an event to added, needed my camera in top shape, didn't want to take my S4 along. I believe camera still performs best on stock. So dats why
Camera performs exactly the same imo, just doesn't have as many advanced auto modes as stock camera

The difference between the pictures you take in CM and stock is huge. I went back to stock because of this too.

Me too... I would love using CM, but the camera isn't just the same as stock (even on manual mode). Probably CM11 is using old camera drivers?
Recently flashed the M9 snapshot on my Z2 but have been running the nightlies for a while.
Very responsive and snappy usage and comparable battery life to stock (power saver not permitting).
Agree with the others regarding poor camera quality. Fidelity not as high in CM and slower 'shutter speed' than stock which sometimes results in blurry photos.
Otherwise very happy. Will continue using as daily driver.
I hope they can correct camera issues when 314 sources are released.

Flashed M9 release last night and having an issue with data/wifi. When I'm on wifi and either go out of range of wifi or turn off wifi my cellular data doesn't work. It says I have LTE but data will not work until I reboot or toggle airplane mode. Am I missing anything here?
I flashed latest 17.1.2.A.0.314 prior to flashing M9 to get latest baseband. This is on Tmobile LTE.
I have been using it as my daily driver since it was available. The only issues i currently have is that when my phone is docked in the Sony docking cradle thingy and i remove it the screen stays on as-in i have to manually lock/turn off my screen,it doesn't auto-lock. This only happens with the dock not with the normal charger. The second and final issue i have is the lack of the 4K recording feature, but then again that is not an issue for me at all, since 4k is completely pointless for me at the moment.
Apart from the above issues,i LOVE CM11 and will never ever go back to stock.

Some basic ROM feedback + MODs suggestion (D802)

I have been jumping between a few ROMs for a period of time now and finally decided to stick with one which I think is stable, fast and gives the best battery life by far. I admit I haven't tried all of the ROMs out there, also people have different set ups and use their phone differently. So please take what I say as a recommendation only, and I mainly wish to share some of my experience as I know how frustrating it can be to choose a ROM out of so many choices. At the end I also want to share the MODs I have been using and how I have personalized my device, hopefully will help someone out there.
Note: I didn't use the same MOD for all ROMs! See more explanation below.
ROM
Just to make it clear, I wipe all before flashing a new ROM. I don't use any kind of backup software, yes that is right I don't, call me insane But the result of poor battery life or restart/FC should not be caused by these factors. I also install about the same app back (give a take a couple which I don't use often) after a flash. I also use the same set up for all my ROMs e.g. Auto brightness, screen on time and etc.
STOCK
I have been on stock LG G2 ROM for about 5 months I think, there are some nice features and I have to say it is probably the most stable ROM out there.
But for me, I experienced a bit of lag here and there.
I think many out there will agree with me, when I say the ROM doesn't have the best UI design. I would recommend installing Xposed Installer (xda) and G2 Xposed (play store) and make some modifications yourself.
The battery is ok, last a day for me and ends up with 30% on a good day (often below 15%).
The biggest feature for me is the knock code to unlock device, I do miss it.
I didn't compare but the Camera app is better than Google Camera (opinion, didn't test).
CloudyG3 v1.3
Used this ROM for about a month, stable enough for daily driver.
Some lags when using the phone in general. Animation slow down is the main reason I decided to go with another ROM.
UI looks much nicer than G2 since it is based on G3.
Can use G3 TweaksBox to tweak UI like you can with G2 Xposed, but most features will require you to pay. Which I did, but don't think it is worth the money. Most changes require you to reboot to see effect and it is buggy.
Again knock code is a plus, better than stock ROM I think.
Slightly better battery than Stock but not much better, I would say about the same. Been using the same MODs since.
Camera is also pretty good, on par with STOCK (opinion, didn't test).
Mahdi-ROM 09/20
This is a very popular recommendation, rated the most stable ROM. But it is the opposite for me, phone would restart and FC.
Some bugs listed on ROM page. This doesn't affect me, but may affect some of you.
Very similar to CM11, a lot of options to tweak, too much in my opinion.
Battery life about same as stock, again the ROM wasn't stable enough for me so can't possibly have amazing battery life. Same MODs as I have now.
No knock code.
ParanoidAndroid 06/28
This is my current ROM, glad I decided to try it.
Very stable, haven't had a single FC or restart yet and I have been on it for weeks.
This is the fastest ROM, I don't notice any animation slow down at all. Ok a few times with the keyboard I am using but pretty sure it is the keyboard app.
Amazing battery life. e.g. 10 hours since unplugged, 2 hour screen on, 76% left.
Has double tab to wake, but no Knock code
Good amount of built-in customization
MODs + app suggestions
Twilight app (or something similar), for less harsh light on the eye when reading at night.
Google Now Launcher + Xposed GEL Settings, I like the Google Now being included in the launcher itself.
LiOn Tamer (AKA Unbounded) to stop wake-locks, just install and then done no set up require.
Silence app, which turns phone silent for those who work at from 9am - 5pm.
Calendar + Calendar Mute app which turn phone silent for those who are at University with odd lecture times.
Hello there, I have been looking for a thread like this for a while, how do you think they compare to other major roms like Vanir, Eos etc in Speed/ performance etc??
are you running any custom kernels? Art or Dalvik?

Unfortunately I haven't tried all the ROMs, so can't give you any suggestion on them.
As for custom kernels and ART, I have been using whatever comes with the ROMs. The result on PA is so good (7.5 hours screen on time with 22% battery left), I never found myself in the situation of needing to tweak anything. Kernel is generally my last choice, because it is a lot of trial and error. The last I tried ART was when it was still in beta, I should really give it a go now it is more stable.
Can you provide a link to the 26/8 PA rom? Can't seem to find it in the PA thread cos there are only other dated roms. Sorry for being a noob cos I've never flashed aosp on my g2. Or which release did you use or would recommend?
Dont you miss the Qslide apps on stock roms? or the Qremote? (I use it all the time)
and thanks for sharing the expirience... I myself decided only to root the phone in the case that it won't be getting Android 5.0

When I first switched to AOSP roms I missed them a lot. Fortunately there is a mod for the quick remote but none for Qslide. Either way you'll find yourself not needing Qslide after some time.

I tried Qslide on stock, then never used it again. For me spliting the screen in half means i can't see much of anything. I think it might be useful when you get used to it, but I never really got used to it.
I never used Qremote because I don't own anything which requires a remote.

Nice write up! I used Mahdi, PA and CloudyG3 and agree with your comments. I'm currently running cloudyg3 and would like to add a few notes to those who are interested. Disabling all the animations does speed things up for me and the dev made the G3 Tweakbox features all free. PA is my second favorite ROM, super smooth and stable. If camera was better on PA, it would be my daily driver.

I'm really interested in trying the G3 rom. I've been using stock on this phone since I got it and I really love the built in features and stability. I've come from a long line of Nexus ownership and have a Nexus 7 2013 for AOSP support + latest updates.
I was really worried about the stability of the G3 port but feel a little more confident reading your review compared to other roms. Paranoid Android was always fun too, I just never tried it on my G2.

Yeah G3 Rom are very stable only some hiccups when you have too many apps open, apart from that everything is pretty good. Camera is normally the main selling point for most
Also I think going from stock -> G3 ROMs -> AOSP is a pretty good way going about it.

4.4.2 cam drivers

I'm struggling to fix my camera flashlight problem to no avail.
Back in the good old days of build 17.1.2.a.0.314 my flashlight would work flawless.
now adays with recent builds the flashlight can be ON but can't be turned OFF until reboot.
Is there a way to have old cam drivers back in my Z2 or a different solution?
I trust the xda community will help.

I feel like sony will never address this issue because it's not affecting all phones.
but i certainly hope they do
i have tried google camera and as soon as i tried taking a picture the flashlight was ON and stayed that way with no response at my attempts to turn it off.
tried in safe mode but no luck, i tried clean installs and what not but nothing works.
the only solution was a downgrade to firmware 17.1.2.A.0.314 which helped me conclude it's not a hardware issue.
thx for your help

Generally the stock provides the best camera quality in Sony mobiles, however, when they are buggy like in your case, you can try other roms like CM12.1 or AOSP or Pac man.
You will need an unlocked boot loader and some know how about flashtool for that.
Also, custom roms and kernels depend on user. Some user want performance but some like me want more battery life, and thus tweak our phones accordingly. Once you get used to custom roms, you hate stock. I move away from stock within 6 hours of a device's purchase. So it depends what you like. My personal favourites are mentioned above .

cm12.1 SNAPSHOT first impressions

Hi everyone,
New in town and wanted to ask some questions .
I'm thinking of updating my i9100 with the latest snapshot (stable as it goes) of cm 12.1 from the cyanogenmod guys.
1. Is there anyone that can guide me through any known issues/bugs related to this version of cm and this specific device?
2. Secondly, i looked through the internet and most people say that the only negative about this rom is the camera app (google camera i presume...). They say that the quality of the pictures is far less than the samsung stock camera. Is this true? And if yes, is there not a possibility to install another camera app (point me to one if you please) in the cm rom instead of using the cm google camera? Or maybe you could point me to the exact stock samsung camera app of 4.1.2 that i currently own and install it after the update...?
3. Also are there any problems regarding enabling 3g (apn settings)?
4. Last but not least, if for some reason i'm to install the pico gapps (hence no youtube), can i install youtube separately after the ROM flushing?
Thanks in advance. Looking forward for your answers.
Hi @thrillos, welcome to XDA,
I will just comment generally on lollipop. CM snapshot is considered one of the most stable LP roms
1. The most well known bug is it freezes every now and then requiring a reboot. This happens 1 or 2 times a day for some people and virtually never for others(I hardly ever experience freezes). It's probably related to slightly different hardware capabilities
2. The camera quality is not as good as stock and never will be. On any custom(non-touchwiz) rom. This is because Samsung hasn't(and won't) released there hardware codes. And no, you can't use the stock app, because it relies on other Samsung proprietry files(also closed-source) to work
3. No APN problems
4. Pico gapps are necessary if you have stock system partition.(or another gapps package that is bare minimum play store/services)
When you install other apps from example play store they are installed in /data, so as long as you have space there, you can install whatever extra apps you want
For more specific info, keep up to date with what users are reporting in the thread HERE
Thank you very very much for your detailed answer on this matter. If i currently (4.1.2) install google camera will i be able to see its "cm" quality in order to make my comparisons or will it be better than the one on cm just because i already own stock drivers?
Thanks in advance.

I honestly don't know, but I think the google camera would use the drivers that are in the firmware and you wouldn't necessarily see the quality you would have in aosp. I guess you could try it and see....
If the camera is super important, quality-wise, then I would recommend staying on stock. If it isn't, then there are plenty of reasons to use custom roms. You could always use Neatrom 4.1.2 as an alternative. It is touchwiz(stock) based and one of the best roms ever made on the S2; I can't think of any reason to stay on stock vs neatrom.

Of course, i already installed google camera on my stock 4.1.2 and it doesn't have a single difference from the stock camera. I wish that someone had done this test on behalf of us, and maybe provided us with some links or samples of the difference between google camera on cm (and not stock which i've already checked) and stock camera on Samsung...
Sincerely if you aren't a photo maniac the Google camera is enough...in my opinion is not so bad...try it
Maybe i will @bixi...thanx alot for your answer. If i try i will sure come back here and let you know....
One last question...is it about image quality or just lack of features when we compare rhe camera apps...????

Both mate. But most people only need the bare essentials of their camera, so quality can be a talking point. Personally, I don't care too much on features, since we are only limited to whatever features are available on the s2. Although quality is hard to quantify between stock and aosp, it is generally thought that stock does a better job at focus and post processing (etc???)
@gsstudios
I havent noticed a any quality drop comparing to stock rom. The big differance is panorama mode quality though. On stock , it is blurry and on AOSP it is sharp as normal photo.
I have noticed a drop in quality long time back when I was on CM11 4.4.4 . The drop frames in video capturing. The lack of sharpness in some shots. But come on. The S2 is old and has a 8MP sensor. It's not worth thinking about in this day and age as long as it works decent. Now if you had a Galaxy S6 and something reduced it's amazing quality down a notch, then you got something to worry about.
I am currently on CM12.1 Snapshot. My question is slightly different. If I wish to go back to stock, all I need to do is use Odin and flash the stock rom for my phone, right?
Im on CM11 Latest nightly. Should i upgrade to cm 12.1 snapshot? i'm also having some bugs on cm11 where rarely i lost all stored contacts. I have contacts only stored localy.
Will 4.1.2 Custom rom's run faster than cm11? (at least wouldn't have any bugs, i guess)
I'm running CM11 with TWRP recovery.
Its only flash neatrom/omega from recovery? or i have to use odin?
Also i have 1gb /system and 4GB /data? is that compatible with neatrom 4.1.2?

Stock 4.1.2 will definitely have less bugs, but you will also lose a lot of security fixes from newer android versions. I don't know if you will find it fast, since AOSP is bloatfree, whereas stock 4.1.2 will have touchwiz framework bloatware.
Neatrom and Omega ROM needs to be flashed through recovery, not ODIN. 1gb system is compatible with Neatrom 4.1.2, but I always use stock partitions just in-case.

Yep, all you need to do is use ODIN to revert back to stock. The easier and preferred option by some users is to use a custom stock 4.1.2 based rom such as Neatrom and Omega rom.

Miui 10 stock camera app/google camera bad image quality/performance

Hi!
I would like to ask if anyone on here could extract stock miui 10 xiaomi mi 8 camera app for me. I find photos taken with google cam to have really low quality (at least for now), and taking photos is kinda slow. I cannot do that myself because I'm currently on pixel 2 rom and don't really want to go back, because of the full substratum support on here. Again, I would be pleased if anyone of You could do that little favor for me.
PS I'm aware that it might not work, I'm actually 90% certain that it won't, but I still want to give it a try, since all I found on the web were ports from mi A1, and quite frankly they didn't work. Thanks in advance.
+1, hope someone can make it
+1 I support your request, I was checking some guide to do it by myself but it's beyond my skills.
I support that also !

It will never happens, because Miui stock apps are connected to the frameworks. On Pixel 2 you havent it. It will never works !

Porting of frameworks is a thing. Sure thing, I don't have necessary abilities to do so, but still wanted to give it a go.

Nah man, the Miui stock cams is not even that good.
Wait for a GCam port for Pixel2Rom.. is better.
Its not worth messing with miui framework for a medriocre camera app.

For me quality is better on miui than on gcam, because it's already there if You haven't noticed. Also there are more options on stock camera app, which I really like, even more so the performance is better so.. I guess it's subjective, people have their own tastes and preferences.

Someone did it on Oneplus One, I guess it can be done. Anyway it would be the only Cam app to actually use both camera sensor, unlike Gcam

I tried on Pixel Experience v3.1, failed to install after asking permissions. Couldn't get a log file nor an error though, I'm not sure how I can help.
