[Q] Android System Draining Battery with High CPU Time - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a OnePlus One on Exodus ROM and have noticed that the "Android System" is draining my battery, with very high CPU use time. The problem has persisted with every ROM I have tried, including Cyanogen 12S and CyanogenMod 12.1. It also persists regardless of kernel. I am currently using the AK Kernel, but the same problem happens even with the stock kernel. I used the SystemPanel app to determine which process is using the CPU (hence draining my battery) and it seems to be a process called "system". Does anyone know why this problem is occuring? Your help is much appreciated.
Screenshots are attached. Thanks again for your help.

Uninstall apps one by one until the cpu usage goes down, (enable show cpu usage in development)
Or wipe everything, and install your apps one each day until you receive problems

I tried that last night and it didn't work. The system process had a CPU time of over 2 hours today, and when I use the SystemPanel app to monitor usage, it always seems to be using CPU. Please help!
EDIT: I looked at another CPU monitor and realized that that the following processes are consistently eating CPU: Android System, Settings Storage, Phone, ANT HAL Service, and LocationServices. I'm really not sure why this is. Again, your help is *much* appreciated!

[Q] Background Apps and cpu usage

The vibrant is my first android phone, so apologies if I am simply ignorant.
Anyways, my battery life has been sucky lately (as compared to what it used to be).
I generally listen to streaming radio on my way to and from work. At work I oocasionally check email, play wordfued or send text messages. I used to get home with 60-70% charge left. Lately I have been lucky to get home with 40% left.
The change is that I am now running the Franekn-twiz rom and before I was running jfd or ji5. At first I assumed the difference was simply due to the new rom and was considering going back to stock when I noticed something odd.
I opened the samsung task manager included since ji2 and I noticed that Rom Manager was in red and said to be at 30+ cpu usage. It quickly changed to 0%, then to 2%, then 4%, then 0. It jumped arround a lot, but it was definitely doing something. I looked further and noticed that astro was was also fluctuation and getting to as high 13% cpu usage.
I had not used either application since yesterday. I killed them both.
When I restart either and then exit it (with the home button) I get the same thing again. Not trusting the samsung manager, I looked in the System Panel Light app and it also shows these apps using cpu in the background.
I know of no reason why either app should be using cpu, and I can't find a setting in tierh to stop it. Also, Rom Manager does not have an exit option, so I *have* to use a task manager to kill it to stop the cpu usage.
Please help me understand:
1. is there a valid reason for these apps to be using cpu when they shouldn't be doing anything?
2. Is there an easy way to fix this?
3. How can I figure out if this is a problem wit my phone, the rom, the apps, or something else?

[Q] Battery usage only displaying standard processes

Hello,
I am on XXLPQ 4.0.3 with Siyah Kernel. Lately I noticed that the battery usage details do not show any apps anymore, but only "standard processes". For example I am playing a game or using google navigation for some hours, which uses a lot of battery, but the battery monitor then only shows display 83%, although a lot of battery was used not by the display being on but by a certain app.
I am not sure when exactly this started, but I do remember that I saw a lot of different apps in the battery view, now it is only display, calls, android system and so on.
Does anyhone have a clue what could be the reason and how to "fix" this?

This happens because the standard Android battery monitor is far from reliable.
Download Better battery stats (paid but free on XDA) or GSam battery monitor (free, paid) if you need accurate battery monitor

just check once, by wiping battery stats in recovery then do fixpermissions reboot the phone and see afterwards the same
Thanks, I wiped battery stats and fixed permissions, but unfortunately that did not change a thing, still only seeing the same 5 processes in the battery overview.
I know better battery stats and also use that to check for wakelocks, but I'd still like to use the built-in funcitonality for a quick overview.
Any other ideas?

If you are bent in using the inbuilt battery monitor, the only solution is by updating your kernel to latest version or Changing the kernel to another
Good luck

[Solved] high wakelock/keep awake

i have an htc rezound running wildstang83s cm10.1, a HIRO based kernel, and amonra recovery. I don't have any apps that are out of the ordinary but for some reason my keep awake is 10:14:44 and the screen has been on 00:15:45... Its annoying because im chewing through battery life like nothing. I check CPU spy and I only entered deep sleep for 4% of the time and my cpu was running at 1728 (max) for 73.7% of the time. any help is greatly appreciated! perhaps I have some foolish setting enabled... i believe i disabled all syncing/updating
under apps installed I have:
andromouse
battle.net authenticator (key fob for battle net)
cheezburger
chrome
cpu spy
facebook
google+
kernel tuner
pageonce
You need to install an app like Better Battery Stats that will tell you which apps are giving you wake locks.

got it, going to let it run all night like usual and see what it says. ill be back in this thread in a couple of hours to let you know if i see anything suspicious
looks like the GPS was causing the wakelocks even though it was disabled. I re-enabled and disabled and then did a battery pull reboot. battery life is much better now! better battery stats really is an indispensable tool

Battery usage

Over the last couple of days noticed run time has decreased. In battery stats it shows Android System is using 53%. Does that sound right? I usually close apps if the phone is going to be unused for a while.
It may happen if you have installed too many apps and there are many background services running on your phone. You can also use a good task killer to prevent your phone from getting high cpu usage

1. Ensure that the battery level is higher than 20%. When the power is low, your phone's performance will be limited in order to allow the battery to last longer and to protect the phone. We recommend charging your phone and then checking if performance is still poor.
2. Uninstalling the Third-party Phone Manager apps. If Third-party Phone Manager apps is installed on your mobile phone, uninstall the application and try again. Generally, this type of software conflicts with the phone manager of the mobile phone. As a result, frame freezing occurs.
3. Using the official stable system. If your phone has been rooted, restore it to the official version.
4. Closing apps running in the background. If there are too many applications running in the background, the phone may freeze. You can touch the Recent key and close apps running in the background.
5. Restart your phone. If the phone is not powered off for a long time, too much data is cached in the system and the phone is not running properly. Please restart your phone.
I have 49°C on standby, and it reaches 53°C while using social apps. Tryed everything to fix that, nothing works for my p20 lite
