it'll happen when it happens.
i'm assuming you OTA'd to lollipop. if you're on any kitkat build there are root methods for all builds and you can downgrade to nc5 (easiest method imo)

Its definitely possible that it either does not happen, or wont happen until its no longer relevant....

This phone is like a brick with lollipop (planned obsolescence?) Did they purposely update the phones to lollipop so people will upgrade to an s6 because of the slowness

Exactly. This device has been rooted for ages. The first rule of obtaining/retaining root: NEVER OTA
Devs are not inclined to find exploits for every single update that comes out (especially when the updates are usually to patch the exploits previously used). It's usually just the first or maybe a handful of releases (if you're lucky) that get root.

Anyone else get it yet? It is available via Kies.
**As with any update, if you are rooted just wait for a rom since you will probably lose root and high probability it will be locked down like the S4 was.

As always, do not take any OTA update if you want to keep root. Wait till the file is taken apart or someone installs to see what this changes.

And considering kingo root app is still fairly new, there is a .1% chance it was patched. But Verizon might have enabled selinux to enforcing, that would ruin safestrap possibilities for awhile. I think I'll test it out and keep you guys updated.

I know, i'm not even rooted. I know this may effect my being able to root in the near future though so that's why I didn't do it.

AWS LTE Bands. Verizon just enabled it in major markets. It will make the coverage better and faster. Only certain devices have the hardware to take advantage of it. Some devices come with it enabled and others have to have it enabled with a software update.
Just ran through the update. And it said there was another update, so far I have updated it twice. Will post back if I see anything. Holding my breath for KNOX to show its face.
I am curious to know all of the implications of the updates but will not risk losing root
Just a heads up, it is highly likely that many problems will come from updating. Namely, SELinux is expected to go from Permissive to Enforcing on VZW devices. This will cause issues with future rooting, and issues with SafeStrap.

When Kit Kat Finnaly Arrives [Q]

I have a AT&T 6.3" Mega unlocked using it with T-Mobile...
have couple a questions for whenever they push the 4.4 update...
1. as i am on T-Mobile, and the phone is AT&T will i get the OTA update and be able to install it?
2. as the phone is unlocked now, if im able to update OTA, will i lose the unlock, or will still have unlocked phone that i can use on T-Mobile?
3. This one im pretty sure about... my phone is rooted, after updating it to 4.4 i will lose root correct?
Thanks to all that can help with those Qs

You will not be able to do the update if there is one which I highly doubt there will be I know there has been rumors but its not likely if your rooted you'll need to unroot cause it'll trip Knox's and cause issues as for doing the update you'll need to borrow a Sim from someone with at&t and then it'll update or manually do it through keys I am developing a recovery for the i527 to be able to flash 4.4+ Roms look for my threads in development for the mega

since you're rooted, you will never receive any update via ota from at&t.
if you really want to regain update via ota from at&t, you have to unroot, return everything back to stock.
or you can just download the update from sammobile and manually update it with odin, but there's a chance that you might break root.
if you sim unlocked by using an unlock code, then i think it should be fine and permanent.

been waiting on the 4.4 as the ROM sizes supposed to be smaller, and the new compression format that you can choose from the developers options so is no more Dalvik would help free more RAM and speed up the device...
the kernels and radios would be updated aswell, making it possibly better battery life and stronger signal aswell...
hope they push it by the end of the month

Calm down, young padawans... Mega may or may not get KK... And so we have no influence on it. As for me - I'm not eager to have KNOX in my Mega... KK or not KK..
I'm pretty sure the Mega will get KitKit, otherwise why would Samsung have it on their update FAQ.

I kinda doubt it since there's no way to unlock the bootloader on 4.3 maybe safestrap will get 4.4.2 support but besides that I highly doubt it.. but any developer out there in the process of unlocking either 4.3 or 4.4.2 correct me if I'm wrong. (Not being disrespectful but I think most of the developers have moved on or are working on roms for the unlocked)

You can try towelroot depending on what version software you have.
And you should be able to downgrade without having issues. Haven't tested that with the newest firmware though.

Do some research before trying this. But you go to towelroot.com on your phone and download the apk. After downloading the apk go to settings on your phone and allow installing apps from unknown sources. Then install the apk and run the app.

towelroot may not work on firmware nf6 or ng3 basically any firmware after ne6 cannot be rooted with towelroot. however you can downgrade to ne6 , root with towel;root . and then upgrade and retain root with mobile odin pro. here is my thread regarding this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790292

If you have handset protection from TMOBILE I wouldn't worry about tripping KNOX. The only warranty knox trip affects is the warranty that comes with the phone from Samsung. Nothing voids the premium handset warranty including throwing your phone at the wall on purpose . Tmobile would rather replace a knox tripped phone rather than replacing one that is ran over by a car. If you don't have premium handset insurance then I understand why you wouldn't want to trip it

There are literally dozens, if not hundreds of threads about this.
If you have any S5 model other than the 900H, simply use Odin to revert to a pre-June 3rd build of 4.4.2 stock firmware and then use Towel root.
As simple as that.

[Q] Rooting a new Verizon S6 Edge?

Hey all, excuse my ignorance but I have searched and still am kind of confused. I'm going to grab a phone on Verizon prepaid next week and would like to get the Galaxy S6 Edge, but am still kind of confused with what's going on in the development scene. Mainly I want root and a custom recovery. I'm OK with touchwhiz and a stock ROM, especially if I can get rid of some bloat, but really need root and recovery. WHere I am confused is that I don't know what version of the Edge I will get and if full root will be available and if I will run into any problems that will prevent root. It seems like the smart thing to do would be to get the Nexus 6 for root/ROMs/Bootloader, but I really like the S6 Edge and would love to grab it if it will work.
