Lost recovery mode after resizing system partitions - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I was trying to flash a nightly update from cyanogen and was getting the error : CM 12 Error:detected filesystem ext4 for /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system and so, troubleshooting the problem, I tried to extend the system partitions through the procedure I found in a thread that contained the code down bellow and I believe that was after that that I lost my recoverymode. After this I tried do full wipe and flash an earlier ROM to see if I could get the phone back and that was the last time I was able to enter in the recoverymode. Now I just have a black screen and also when I try to start my phone it took about 2 min on a black screen and then the OS starts. Besides that, all network connectivity was lost (wifi, call signal, 4g/3g) and user space-sdcard (/data partition) too (althoug it seems to be mounted). It appears that was all disabled. Without a recovery mode and internet I am completely stuck. I tried to install a cwm and a twrp through adb after install flash gordon and flashify apk but it did not worked since it cannot recognize a file inside my /data . And the idea I had to restore from rommanager apk failed in the moment it tried to connect on internet to download content.
Please help!! Follow details:

676.999.999 [ICS Dummy update] for 676.226.3.XT910.Retail.en.EU

Interesting update found from cheesecaking on the build.prop 676.226.3.XT910.Retail.en.EU. It has an upgrade to the cdt.bin so it may not be fastbootable from back to .33....
It is still 4.0.4 by looking at the updater-script.

Might as well post it, feel free to flash at your own risk, I sure am not though.

Thanks.. Will look into it & extract usable stuff
Update :
the new cdt.bin will remove webtop partition. Not good for those using my dual boot solution (BootMenu).
The main secure version is not upgraded, so it can be downgrade back to .33 cdt.bin. It's not a big problem now.
Not sure how it will be in official release though, but this is an early signed that Moto will removed the abandon webtop partition in future.
or maybe this file is for their internal use.(development unit) because this new cdt.bin also remove emstorage partitition.

It's hard for an badass Crackflasher, not to try this. But if it will remove the Webtop Partition, it's not worth it.
The Fastboot ICS got no webtop in it, so there's no way to get this Partition back, right?

.33 cdt.bin still has webtop in its partition table.
But where did they relocate the space?

If you fastboot back and restore someone's extracted webtop.img it should work fine... in theory?
I will try to patch whole system tmr and c if theres anything new on framework and app. (or something we could use without new cdt.bin)
I would try patch kernel as well but i won't test it on my phone(i dont rly like to mess with my cid)

cdt.bin is like a partition table in PC.

the removed webtop partition space is assign to userdata (/data). You got a big data partition with this cdt.bin.
If this is happening, we'll multi-boot from userdata partition. It's a good thing, it solve the 2nd-system size limitation.

upgrading kernel like this is safe
Code:
fastboot flash boot ics_dummy.img
if it failed verification, jut flash again with previous flash-able version
i don't dual boot so there shouldn't be any reason not to flash this? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the leaks matt!

Hello just a request. Can someone make a tutorial for users like me who dualbooted or used the 2nd system to flash this new update?

Thought by the file size that this was an update like 676 was. Wiped my whole system instead that's all my fault though. Runs very nicely though

Can you share the output of these command (using adb)
Code:
adb shell mount
Code:
adb shell ls -la /dev/block/
Code:
adb shell df
Can you post an Screenshot of the Info (Baseband, Builddate and stuff)

thanks matt.
@Whirleyes
If they remove webtop partition, you said we'll dual boot from data partition. Does that mean that both system will use same data? Or different data on same partition?
i wonder if this update really update system or if it just a dummy to try the partition switching.

@Whirleyes
If they remove webtop partition, you said we'll dual boot from data partition. Does that mean that both system will use same data? Or different data on same partition?
i wonder if this update really update system or if it just a dummy to try the partition switching.

Opps... the /data partition didn't grow.
the /mnt/sdcard-ext (fat) grow to 14GB?
thanks HSD-Pilot
But sdcard-ext doesn't count, right?
He's using 16Gb microsd
/mnt/sdcard is shrunk to 1Gb?

Restore Original Partition Table E970 (N4 Converted)

Hello, can anyone send me the original partition table of Optimus G E970??
I converted my E970 to N4 but now i want to revert the process. When i flashed Original Firmware with LGNPST or LG Flash Tool i can boot the rom but sensors are not working (acelerometer and proximity sensor). I restored old backups of my E970 and nothing happened but when i reflash N4 firmware all its working fine now, so i assume is table partition problem.
i saw the next procedure to fix camera. Now camera works but sensors not working, so its possible than another partitions still lost?? Can anyone send me original partition table of E970. Thank You!!! Happy New Year!!

mke2fs -T ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
mke2fs -T ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p16

Are you using adb shell with Android Loaded??
I think you need to execute adb in Recovery Mode, you need to use a special version of CWM
Download it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010984
Good Luck!

I used adb shell in recovery(but using twrp) and while android was running.
The last three lines of codes seem to worked but rebooted and no luck.

nope, camera is still not working, and sensors are not working either, I dont know what really happened or what my friend tried to do, he is telling me this happened after a failed attempt at rooting his OG but either way the commands appear to be working, I thing it might be a faulty camera or something.
There is a thread on a camera fix in the android development section. Dig through and you should find it

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146816 that's weird its having these problems. Upon returning from the conversion I only had problems with the camera until this fix was put out

Restore 20j rom with LGNPST, flash TeenyBin ALT Bin with the same software, flash recovery with adb support and try again the 3 commands.
So I have tried almost everything I have read extensively and I get no camera :crying: I really dont know what else to do.
I got these two screenshots of the parted and the cat proc.
Can someone tell me if this might be hardware problem?
Is anyone able to put an e970 partition table into a .mbn?
Hi, I am trying to fix an AT&T LGOG for a friend who had messed around with custom roms. The sdcard0 seems to be readonly. and I don't see the mount point listed. The camera and some sensors no longer work as well.
The device is rooted.
Here are the terminal outputs. Much appreciated for the help.

@XDFernando, how you did this? I have a similar situation. I tried to resize some system partitions and now I lost my recovery mode and wifi, bluetooth , area signal , etc. When I try too start on recovery I get a blackscreen. I tried everything and nothing. Please help me!!!

[REQUEST] [SOLVED] Huawei Y536A1 help us make a custom recovery...Please?

Hey all, we need your help. This is an At&t Go phone called the At&t Tribute and/or the At&t Fusion 3 (that's Walmart name for it.)
Our phone is bootloader unlocked (via a code from Huawei) and rooted.
We just need a custom recovery working on it.
Here is a link to the main thread showing the bootloader unlock and root processes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-huawei-y536a1-root-t3007547
We are so close to getting this phone to what all of us want.
Please we need help.
Can noone help out with a recovery for our phone?
I'm totally inexperienced here. I try to help where I can. I'm willing to learn too.
I don't expect someone to come out of the blue and hand me a custom recovery.
Thanks for any help.

Double please with a cyclops on top:cyclops:
Another request to get CWM on this phone. Just picked it up because I wanted a cheap Android phone to complement my Lumia 635, and this one seemed capable with it's RAM and decent CPU (although the internal storage is tiny). Would love to get CWM on this baby.

TWRP 2.8.6.0 for Huawei Y536-A1
Download & extract the zip before continue.
To flash the custom recovery to device, execute the following commands:
* Make sure you have adb/fastboot/driver installed on your pc.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery [B][COLOR="Red"]recovery_twrp2860.img[/COLOR][/B]
Edit #1: Added stock recovery from Y536A1 V100R001C07B258, just in case you want to restore it for OTA or other purpose.
Edit #2: Replaced TWRP with 2.8.6.0 which fixed the horrible display issue on previously ported recovery.

I don't own this device but i am more than happy to help you guys create a custom recovery, no promises tho.
Before i start doing this i will need some info about the device, pls provide me the phone specs, recovery.log from stock recovery too, if possible.
It would be easier if someone can provide me full adb/fastboot access to the device through teamviewer, this could avoid unnecessary Q&A session.
Drop me pm if anyone of you interested & willing to run some test recoveries when they are ready.

Hey just saying when there is custom recovery I am switching to supersu. I do not like the cwm superuser. I tried switched a few times and then stopped trying because I could never keep root after switching apps

Go ahead and flash the the second recovery it is TWRP and it works

cannot flash with odin, lg tools, adb, flashify, flash gordon, rom manager, nothing..

Hi all,
I am not able to enter in recovery mode after a mistaken deletion from partitions /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 and /dev/block/mmcblk0p26 which I belive in Optimus G is persist (since I lost my wifi and network signal) and tombstones partitions. Neither my sdcard mount.
I already tried to restore through odin , lg software tool but it does not recognize my phone when I connect on PC even thought all usb drivers installed and I am able to acess adb tools and shell recognizing my device when I plug into pc. Now I am stuck on a system without recovery mode, internet, sdcard, signal and when I try to flash a new ROM or recovery with adb it does not recognize the recovery partition and when I tried to create the persist partition it says that the device (/dev/block/mmcblk0p25) does not exist. Any guesses?

First.... let me say I'm sorry to hear about your issue. To be clear, you cannot get the Optimus G to boot at all, correct? You have a black as the night, phone. Nothing shows up on the screen whatsoever?
Did you backup any of the partitions before you decided to mess with your phone? Did you use FreeGee to back up the efs partitions?
IF you have any signs of life, I would strongly advise you contact TheCubed he is definitely the person you want to talk to about your issue, write him a message and when you do, be very detailed about what your device does or doesn't do, etc... He'll need to know all of that information to give you a proper response.

Hi Jessica, thanks for your response! I really appreciate!
So this is strange, because In fact I can boot and I can entry on my bootloader and ROM although none of it can save my life. Neither the watch stays correctly now
But when I try to enter in recovery mode or open freegee app it is all black. And when I start the phone it took about 2 minutes black and then cyano ran. And I am really dead since I didn't backed nothing up before. :'( (but my EFS partitions seems ok)
The mess began when I tried to resize system partition to install an cyano nightly update. This was the code I ran
Code:

ui_print "Unmounting systems partiton..."
umount -l /system
umount -l /system1
umount -l /dev/block/mmcblk0p25

I was so stupid and noob that at the time I did not realized that this code was not to Optimus G.
Without a recovery mode and internet I am completely stuck
I gonna try to reach him! thank you for your attention!

Have you used the KDZ or TOT file for your phone and tried to restore it yet using lg tools? I have a whole step by step tutorial that you can follow, for any lg device.
When you plug your phone into your computer does the computer detect the phone, what about ADB, does it detect your device?

Hi Jessica,
I've tried some of lg tools but any pc doesn't recognize my phone... but adb interface does recognize. I am able to enter on my phone through adb shell. I have all the last lg usb drivers installed and already tried in more than one PC and still nothing. None of them recognize my phone when plugged. I've tried in odin, pc suite, lg mobile device, lg flashtool... it sucks! If only I could get a way to connect it on a PC door then I could try something with a program called qpst configuration or lg tools.
But let me take a look at your tutorial! it worth the shot! Thanks for your answers!

Before i go any further, I'll look into a POSSIBLE solution but i need to know which device you have exactly (country version as well) and what's the latest update and/or boot loader you were on when this happened.
If you have an LG device you can't use Odin. That's a Samsung tool.
Whatever you do, since it's recognized via adb do not uninstall or remove anything from your computer. If you lose adb access then you may end up screwed entirely.

Sorry for delay, had a family issue last week, thanks for your help!
