[Help][LP 5.1] Needed boot.img for 'stock recovery backup experiment'. - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to do an experiment(flashing TWRP.img on boot partition and trying to root.) to backup stock recovery.img of Lollipop 5.1. To do this, I need stock boot.img(Kernel Version: 3.4.42-gccbac57) of system version 23.26.2. If there's someone who rooted system version 23.26.2 then take backup of boot.img using Rashr App(Download from here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554 ) and post that stock boot.img here.
If this experiment succeed then I will post stock recovery.img of lollipop 5.1.
UPDATE: I'm not going to do this experiment because temporary booting of twrp is now working on moto e. We can root device by temporary booting twrp and backup stock recovery.img

isn't there anyone who rooted 23.26.2 ?

I have 23.21.34 version i can give you if you want...

It's simple, you just have to extract the boot.img from any ota zip (suggested the official OTA zip)

Do that and give him then.......it will be very good if he can make the 5.1 stock recovery

First of all, you must clarify who is referred to as 'him'?
Secondly, there is no method(according to me) by which you can make a stock recovery from a stock kernel. There are two files namely the boot.img and the recovery.img.
First one is the kernel and the second one is the recovery.
Use the ones you like.

Him meant the op
I don't know if one can make recovery from boot.img.......The op didn't say that either....He said and i quote "I am going to do an experiment to backup stock recovery.img of Lollipop 5.1. To do this, I need stock boot.img(Kernel Version: 3.4.42-gccbac57) of system "
So i thought by using some process he may be able to back up stock recovery....that is why i said like that
and BTW where are those .img files available @Rohitagni

U can find them in any zipped firmware files. By zipped firmware files, I mean the zips for stock firmware, or the update zips that many XDA users capture here from their rooted phones to help users who haven't received the OTA, enjoy the new OS, simply by sideloading.

I'm not making recovery.img from boot.img. I will use boot.img to make my device functional again because I'm going to flash TWRP.img on boot partition and try to root. If device gets root access then I can backup stock recovery.img because stock recovery.img is not over written in process of rooting.

I hope you succeed.........I try to get it from someone
And no @Rohitagni you can't extract boot.img from uploaded update zips but from full firmware zips, yes which is not available
I just saw in general section someone uploaded twrp backup of stock latest 5.1......I can flash that and give the boot.img tomorrow @EthicalHacker

I am extremely sorry, for misleading you guys! I just found out that the fsg.bin and the gpt.bin (with logo.bin, etc) are the only things that are available in those zips. So yes, @cksup, you are correct. Please provide him with the kernel, so that miracles can happen

We can't dump stock recovery without root access and moto e has only one rooting method which is flashing custom recovery on recovery partition. It means we lose stock recovery when we get root access.
That's why I'm taking risk of above mentioned experiment to backup stock recovery.

Root/Xposed - OTA

After taking root I'll still be able to update my phone using OTA? If so, the update will remove the root?
As updates OTA behave in relation to Xposed? Is everything going to work?
Sorry for the English, I used Google translator.

Unfortunately you can't update via OTA if your device is rooted.
To install OTA,
recover the ROM backup ( that you ''hopefully" made before rooting using TWRP ) from TWRP and then, install the OTA.
Edit: Or , (if you are patient enough to download the full ROM) you can dirty flash the full ROM and then install OTA.
When you do this, custom recovery (eg., twrp) will be replaced by stock oneplus recovery . Hence, you should again flash the custom recovery img through adb.
What if we extract the update file and only take the files that will not effect the recovery (the really updated files), make them into a flashable zip and overwrite the current system files?
Just dirty flash the full ROM, then the OTA zip(s) and after that root it again, flash Xposed or whatever you want.
There's no need to restore any backup or reflash recoveries etc.

You are right about dirty flashing the full ROM zip.
But, the recovery will be replaced by stock oneplus recovery when you install OTA update as of my experience.

Why should it be?
I can confirm from personal experience that this won't happen.
//Edit: Do you actually mean 'install' OTAs with the official updater in android itself? If so, then I don't know.
But by flashing the OTA zip (in recovery) it won't replace your recovery.

1.Yeah, I meant updating via "official updater".
2. That's one of the reasons why they(manually flashable OTA zips) are made. aren't they?
@sankarshan Yes you're right. I thought you meant flashing them as zip because I specifically spoke of flashing the OTA zips

Can´t flash kernel

Hi everyone!
I´m using the build of Lineage OS 20170225, everything works fine but when i try to flash a permissive kernel to fix the mods (is in the lineage thread), the recovery said "Error opening: ´/sdcard/...../boot.img/´ (Not a directory)"
What can i do?
I tried to change the root where the file is, but nothing changed...
Sorry for the bad english
Are you trying to open the boot.img file? In TWRP you need to swap to image install not zip, and flash it to the boot partition.
Also make sure you're on the latest TWRP (3.0.3-n2), and maybe re download the boot.img incase it's corrupted.
Hope this helps :good:

[ROOT] Teclast Master T10?

I recently bought Teclast Master T10 Tablet but I can't find any way to root it.
I googled this, but the problem is that there is no TWRP for this device, so I can't flash Magisk.
Any idea or guide would be really appreciated!
Thank you all in advance!

Maybe someone can upload the files from that russian site to another file sharing site so we can get them. Thank you!
You can use the 4PDA android app to register and download. I was able to root my Teclast T10 just now. If you have a location where to upload the files I can do that as well.

Or is there another way to flash the twrp recovery?

Anyone tried to update with TWRP and or Root?
Maybe it will help to flash stock Boot.img and Recovery.img from latest Version (before Update) from Needrom.
Could anyone post a guide to root Teclast T10? Is this guide correct?
How to root telcast t10
Can anyone please give me a step by step guide of how to root telcast t10 or at least remove everything to making it stock OS.
Thanks

First tried without doing anything extra. TeclastOTA boots into TWRP recovery and is not able to upgrade. I tried flashing the original boot and recovery afterwards but was unable to boot, it got stuck on the Teclast logo. You could probably flash the clean factory rom will become available on needrom but I don't wanna lose all my data.

In Russia forum they told to format data in recovery.

I could find an stock Rom for the Mya-l41 trough.
Here is an link: https://mega.nz/#!wKpT1ZaS!CV-2E4sNnUwIurskAdqCDpDawWlZD2UeABtSELk_ffc
That should be an update.app or an flashable zip.
You may get Huawei Update Extractor and extract the system.img and boot.img of the update.app
After that flash system.img and boot.img from fastboot.
Warning. This may soft brick your device.
Good luck.

Fastboot flash system system.img
ok, so i found what i thought was a stock rom for my device on some spanish forum and used sp flash tool to install it
problem is, sp flash tool formatted my phone, but encountered an error trying to install the firmware and now my phone wont boot and windows says its not recognised
is there any fix to this? or is my phone bricked?
hey again! i know this post has been a wild ride of me doing stupid stuff and bricking my phone, but i got the firmware back!
only catch is that i'm receiving some nvram error (which i got on my previous phone too. i swear this is the last time im going mediatek), so if anybody has a method that can fix this it'd be highly appreciated
thanks

You should root with Magisk, it's systemless and it should not affect updates. If you want to update you should flash stock recovery. After you updated you are free to flash Twrp again if you want. If you are rooted with SuperSU you should uninstall SuperSU and install Magisk

Custom recovery that's why you cant install. Ota updates don't usually work with a custom recovery installed. I'm having somewhat similar problem here, but the thing is, I'm using stock mi a3, without any custom bootloader, twrp, rom, etc.
currently in version 11.0.17.0.QFQMIXM
trying to install the august security update that was supposed to be version 11.0.20.0
updater showed the august update as 464mb, which is weird as its supposed to be 34mb or so.
any help from the experts here are kindly appreciated.
I have no custom recovery, or magisk but have same problem
So I solved the problem as I love root .. I had to loose recovery sharp... Now I have no recovery . I flashed stock ROM of Build 19 and installed the latest OTA . After then I extracted the boot image of stock ROM then I patch stock boot image of latest build.i got now root with magisk with no recovery . I hope I can install future OTA with the method..
If u can't install u must have to flash fastboot..
I have tried restoring stock boot.img of build 19.. but doesn't installed.. although I removed custom recovery but still couldn't install OTA..
