Is the S6 edge battery life a joke? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Coming from a Sony xperia Z I thought my battery life on the s6 edge was awesome I'd get home from an 8 hour day of average to minmal use at work and have about 20% battery left...
This was until I asked my work colleague earlier today how much battery his Samsung note 4 had remaining at the end of our shifts and he told me 72% compared to my 25%, we compared battery usage in the settings menu and they were near identical!? In fact he actually had more usage than me!
I know his phone has a bigger battery but it also has a bigger screen, surely this is a joke??

I use my s6 edge all day continuously and i hit 20% after 16 hours

So what's the deal is my phone faulty?

What apps are you running? Depending on the apps battery manager tends to not read some app usage right.

listening to music through bluetooth continously, and with occasional browsing. My phone drains about 20-25% per hr. I say it's decent.

Ignore the 40% it is currently on charge.
I got around 9 hours use until it died the app i use are Pretty much what this says and Facebook, Snapchat and WhatsApp but they are all low % of usage

Social media apps use ip battery more than anything else acutally. Id show you with my phone on facebook alone but i have a battery usage stat history issie right now where it is not showing anyinthing but its not a big deal. I can see if i can find some non-root apps that freeze others if you wanna test to see if its your social media or something else.

well, if you have couple of texting apps working at all times in the background that will do it, for example if you have Whatsapp + BBM installed with average number of contacts on each app respectively, you are lucky to have 25% after 8 hours. I would recommend monitor the unnecessary apps that are running the background, and minimize the number of texting apps (if you have)

[Q] Serious Battery Drain

I really have a bad battery drain, I fully charged my new Samsung Galaxy S2 from 0% battery to 100% when it was off (after a calibration).
I have set all tips for battery consuming etc, etc.. I installed BetterBatteryStats and it seems like gtalk_async_conn (Google Services) used 17% of the battery in the last 40 minutes.
Is there anything I can do to disable this? I disabled the sign-in in Gtalk settings, but it's still wasting my battery.

if you are using BetterBatteryStats no need for an own thread, there's one already (use search).
In your OP you mixed count and percent, your problem is more than gtalk if your consumption is as you said.
following the hot-to for bbs start with giving us some details about awake and screen on but do yourself a favor, let a mod close this thread and post your questions together with the missing info in the right thread.

GTalk has not used 17% as you mistakenly believe. It has used only 3.6% as per your attached screenshot. So GTalk is not the only service responsible for your battery drain.
That said, it is a fact acknowledged by almost all the owners of SGS II that Low Battery Life and Low Volume of sound output are the two sore points of this phone. Samsung should seriously do something to improve Battery Life and Sound volume of this phone. Hope something comes up in the next updates.
Maps also should be running. Must be also one of the reasons.
And juice defender also consume battery.

3 days???? Which ROM? A lot of people exaggerate here. I'm on CF Rooted stock KF3 with 200+ apps and it lasts for only about 18 hours in normal usage.
i also want to see that 3 day....
Yup juice defender is nothing if you know what your doing.
Example : if you an app and minimize it it will be running in background if you wont be using the app for quite awhile kill the app using task killer. If example you use facebook app. And you u are using it frequently but you kill it and reopen it. It will consume more battery. Only kill app that you wont use.
And disable data went not using and use 2g network when not using data.

i guess we are in the same boat then, better battery stats also show me nothing suspicous,
with little to normal use, my s2 can hardly go for 6 to 7 hours, everything off, only 3g on..
that is on stock rom, im now testing CM7 build 38
Charged 100% go recovery wipe battery stats..
It take sometime for the bateery to function properly.. a day or two.. so after the calabaration let it go to nearly 10% then charge till 100% without disturbing it.

most definitely, i was a big fan of Juice Defender Ultimate but the reality is it actually uses up almost as much as it saves, this was pointed out to me and it is 100% true, since i froze it yesterday im having superb battery life my phone wont die until tomorrow i estimate ill get up to around 40 hours with about 1 call, 15/20 texts and medium internet usage, and some music so far and ive 47% left, the battery was charged to 100% at 23.50 last night and i left it on all night with data enabled and the drain was only 6% in almost 8 hours..

Battery Life

Hig guys my battery life isnt very good , it drains in day with almost no use. Brightness on 25 , Data is Off and also the service location is off .
Anyone knows how to fix this.
I bought the phone because of the battery
And also i bought is last saturday.
Can you post your battery stats?

U should reset ur phone. G2 battery is very awesome. I turn on everything 3g, WiFi, sync, Facebook, viber, ... And I use my phone to read news whenever I have time, so my screen time on of my phone one day is usually 4 hours. Everyday I get home with approx 40% of battery. But one thing I recommend u is u should buy the app lux auto brightness replace for stock auto brightness. I was really surprise after I installed that app, it save for my about one hour screen time.

Take a look at the wakelocks, alarms and see what is keeping your phone awake.
Also , posting a screenshot of your battery life graph would be beneficial.
Cheers !
Edit: Agree with quachhanthanh about Lux Auto Brightness. Totally worth the money , even though the free app does its job admirably.
Ah good idea with lux auto brightness.
I will test this too.

Ah ok thank you , could have known that myself
It really helps to know the stats to start. A rogue app or service can cause a lot of issues. I had a contact sync issue that drained my battery quickly. Found and fixed.
I use greenify(really good for battery life) and also under google settings, I mean the app you have called google settings, uncheck all those things you dont need including under Android Device Manager -> Remotely locate this device. I disabled alot of things in there. If you need to leave wifi on you can also change your wifi scan intervals to like 360 in the build.prop. Thats just for starters.
Great battery here!
As has been said, a battery graph will help out a great deal. If you have a rogue app, it will show a higher percentage of usage than other similar apps. If services really high, you might want to take a look at exactly which services are running. Be sure to always disable any you don't actually use. Also make sure your screen is set to turn off quickly, or use that nifty knock off feature. One last thing, if you are in a spotty coverage area, your radio will broadcast at maximum power trying to find a tower. That searching will kill any battery.

I'm getting horrible battery life.. About 2.5 hours screen time with 45% left. Screen has only used 20% of the battery.. its mostly being used up by Android System (33%) and Android OS(13%). I've got wakelock detector installed and its saying most of the time my phone is in deep sleep... God know's what's the issue.
P.S: I'm even using DS Battery Saver to force deep sleep... I really don't know why the OS and system are using so much battery!
P.S: Using better battery stats, it seems I'm having the activity manager causing wakelocks and the alarm rtc and powermanager service causing wakelocks... anyone has any idea how to stop this?
Almost 40hr with 4.35hr of screen time and still 38% left.

Depends on what you do with the phone. I can drop 20% in like 3hrs easily using spotify alone.
At the moment im at 37h 12m with 3h 8m screen on. Im at 40%.
Here are my stats. I wonder why there's such a variance between different phones. Do LG source batteries from many different manufacturers? Maybe they don't do enough QA on the batteries? Battery life for me isn't terrible compared to other Android phones I've used (many won't even last a day), but I definitely need to charge it every night.

Moto E battery life

Hello all forum members,
i have recently bought a moto e and been using it for over a week now. the mobile has been performing very well. however recently i noticed that the battery life for my moto e is coming to around less than 1 day. For instance yesterday i had taken it completely charged in morning around 7 am from house. i did not charge it through the day. it had mobile data on through the day.background applications were running like the updates, location, emails etc which are usually on. at home i have wi fi and used it along with a small time of playing games (may be half to one hr). by the time i had gone to rest, the battery was around 13 percent and phone was dead when i got up.
so it lost around 87% charge in 14-15 hours.
is this normal time to expect on battery? i read people claiming more than 1 day with normal usage.
please help me out with this as i am concerned whether to return the phone or get a replacement.
thank you,
Tarun

I meant a smartphone
I am getting a SOT of (mostly indoor use):
1- Only 2g all day - 5.5+ hours
2- 2g and Wifi(wifi mainly used) all day- 6.5+ hours
3-Only wifi all- 7+ hours
And a average standby time of around 24 hours with that SOT
I am not a intensive gamer, my usage pattern includes mainly using messaging services, watching videos on youtube, listening to music.
Snapshots of battery life
i am attaching the two screenshots i took yesterday. i have tried calibrating my battery as what Matt has suggested on motorola forums for moto-g.
discharged the phone completely, charged it to 100% without turning it on. kept at 100% for 4 more hours, removed from charger, turned it on for 3-5 mins, then put it off and charged it again for 1 hour. repeated this cycle for 1 more time.
after this calibration even, i am getting a low usable battery life i think. 13 hours to 5% charge. during the last few hours (around 2-3 hours) i was chatting on whatsapp and listening to FM radio, so the screen was on as shown, other services were on like location, mobile data, auto brightness.
can anyone tell me if this is normal?, people are claiming a battery life of more than 1 day. now i am getting really worried.
thank you,

I don't find LTE is needed but I'm in a pretty good signal area most times.
You think I should go to a Samsung service center ?
I doubt a different device will be any different. Unless the phone is acting up, chances are it's an app or setting causing the trouble. Screen brightness, under location settings, make sure scan BTW and WiFi are turned off, those have been big ones for me in the past. Right now I'm testing adguard which runs VPN on your phone to block ads and it's hitting my battery pretty hard, but with fast charging and big battery, I'm living with it for now.

Also, you might want to set data settings to default and let the phone pick the strongest signal.

Do a factory reset and clear cache from recovery a couple of times, i would recommend a reflash. I'm a sec at best buy.
Temped to return it..
I've a UK version and I've been not really happy with battery life.
First thing, I disables AOD,but that didn't change anything.
I did a factory reset and I did set it up as fresh new without any App and/or Account.
So the phone has Wifi+LTE on and after 21h18m I've 36% left with 1h25m SoT done with Web Browsing.
The settings are standard, no sync, no AOD, Edge night mode.
Should I return the phone?
Thanks for advice
very impressed with the battery life, took it off charge yesterday around 9pm, been on all day on 4g, great 7 hours screen on time , this with auto brightness, 4 emails syncing

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I easily get 6-7 SOT
Currently at 20hrs off the charger, 6hrs SOT and 35% left. I'd imagine in a continuous use case I could get 12hrs.

Wait, you're not? That's amazing. Especially if you're coming from G920/5. >_>
I'm impressed so far on first charge I got 16 hours with 5 hours screen on time. That is about 1 1/2 hours of games, some Facebook, intent browsing, and airwatch. With the v10 I would have burned thru 2 battery's and then some to accomplish this.
wow without mobile data my phone (note 4) barely lasts 4h! thats amazing No idea how much it lasts with hspa+ :| and it will last like 1.5h in gaming, anyone can try to play games :? I just played for a few minutes and monitored my percentage and estimated it!

I had a note 4. Lasted me all day with ~15% by end of day
Had iphone 6s+ same
So far s7 edge is needing a cord before end of my day. Haven't needed one since my s4

eh. about 8 hours with a lot of snap chatting which really drains battery fast. Also was bunch of downloads, a benchmark run and few other things since I got the phone. My note edge would have lasted 4-5 hours if I was lucky.
7-9 hours under heavy use... meaning screen on, running multiple apps, games, and/or movies, etc. It's certainly not an endless power source but if you're a light user, can easily squeeze a day+ out of this.
I end the day of heavy use with around 30% battery (6 am- 5pm). In about 15 minutes I can be back to 55%. No problems for power users.

Look at your signal strength.. How do you expect the radio not drain the battery if thats normal with your operator or location? Thats a good battery life assuming the radio is causing some extra battery drain.

11hrs SOT over 30hrs is what I'd consider heavy usage. Pretty good.

I'm going to call BS on this one unless you are using superduperultrapowersavingmode and you are on exynose.

I typically get about 16 hours with 6 to 7 hours SOT. The same as my S6 edge plus.

Lol no power saving. Just a black theme, bloat disabled, and amoled themed ad blocking browser. I keep sync off when I'm on 4g too.
