24B TWRP - Fixing Secure Boot Error - Verizon LG G3

How to get TWRP working on 24B. Using the Autorec app works but you get secure boot error.

Use LG Flash Tool 2014 to flash the 23C KDZ, use autorec to flash TWRP, then flash JasmineROM 8.0.

I don't want to flash back to 23C I want to be on 24B. Can't I just flash the 24B jasime rom boot and aboot images?

Jasmine ROM is 24b, but in order to install twrp, you have to have the 23C boot images in order to flash TWRP. Once you have TWRP flashed, you can then flash Jasmine ROM and be on 24b (kernel and software wise). Boot would still be 23c, but boot isn't going to affect much if anything, but TWRP hasn't been re-bumped to work with the 24b boot images.

So there is no way to get TWRP on 24B without going to 23C and then flashing 24B jasmine rom?

Correct. As I stated, twrp has not been updated to work with the new 24b boot image. But the boot image isn't important for 24b.
If you really want, if you are already on 24b, you can go get the following app from Google Play (as long as you are rooted) and it will downgrade your boot image for you and install TWRP and you'll still be on 24B. That's what I did after I upgraded to 24B via OTA:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=b007.autorecvs985
Again, this is as long as you are on stock LP and rooted. I used this app to install TWRP and then I was able to flash Jasmine ROM 8.0. I wanted to go to Jasmine ROM 8.0 because it was debloatable and then I installed the SkyDragon kernel as well which is tweaked for even better battery savings.
So, you can use the app listed above to flash TWRP and stay on stock 24B, or you can then flash other ROMs and it won't matter. You just have to run the above app to "fix" the boot image so that TWRP can be installed. That is, until a new version of TWRP is released that is made to work with 24B boot image. But, until then, you have to downgrade the boot image and this app does that for you.

Nice! I've been looking for this

I was stock on 24b rooted and used this autorec app and it soft bricks the phone into the security error... tried twice to make sure i was doing it right and still the error persists! I was on stock lollipop 24b only rooted.

So if you're on 24 b rooted do not use this app

Hi,I am in similar situation. While booting, device says "security error"
I have downloaded relevant kdz flash tools etc and setup. But how do I enter the download mode?
When I press volume up and insert the usb cable, LG logo displayed with vibration and gets the "security error" back.
Please please help. I am bricked at the moment.
I was on 24b,rooted and happy. Then autorec happened. What a stupidity!
THnaks much!

You have to get the LG flash tool flash the KDZ 23c and go back to stock. Your problem was you were probably on 24 B and tried to install twrp. Which doesn't work with 24b.

Hold down Volume Up and plug in USB cable. I remember because it's opposite volume button for Download mode than it was on my S3.

Thanks!. - ya finally worked. The problem was I was releasing the vol-up button as soon as device vibrated. WRONG.
Its interesting to note that it was not complete reset. The tool just over-wrote the boot partition info (I think) and my device is back.
UFff...waste of 2 hours, but lesson lerant. thanks again all.

If this has been asked and answered i apologize, i have looked for hours, can't find my situation. I ham running the 24b installed twrp with autorec...oops. After the security error the phone won't stay on so how do i flash 23C?
Thank You

Using the LG flash tool..... And the kdz files for 23c

I just rooted my second Verizon G3 that is running 24b. It took several tries to get it done but I finally got root. I then used Flashify to install TWRP. When I reboot into TWRP at the very top of the screen I get a secure boot error message that pops up. Then it goes to recovery and all works normally. When I reboot the system the G3 works fine. Just wondering why I am seeing this error. I assume the latest twrp caused my issue. Guess I'll a
Wait for a fix, it's my wife's G3 and she likes it stock.
I just rooted 2 other G3 phones last week but they were still on 12b.

For everyone having the security error after using autorec, there is a much easier fix than kdz back etc.
Have jasmine 8.0 on your sd card.
Pull your battery and reboot recovery by using volume down and power button. Scroll to factory reset and confirm. Twrp will open.
Do the normal wipes and flash Jasmine, and boot.
All fixed.

Has anyone used the TWRP Manager app? There is ONE reddit thread claiming success installing on 24B, but I'd like to hear from more people before I try it myself.

I was wondering if I pulled the boot image off of jasmine ROM after i install on 24 b could i essentially just flash the boot image for the stock Rom? To beat the secure Boot error?

There is an autorec here for 24B compliments of @bender_007.

Try flashing it. It's skin1980 sharpening mod, and it bumps the kernel.
Maybe it'll work.

I am in the same place (Security Error) and arrived there via the same steps. I think the only difference is that I am on ZVB firmware.
The firmware difference may explain (or maybe not) why I can boot into TWRP but NOT into download mode.
I'm thinking that if I have TWRP access I should be able to dig myself out of this hole, but not sure how to proceed. I'm guessing that doing a factory reset is not going to fix this, but if that were to return me to stock, that would be great. But I don't want to attempt that without getting some experienced feedback.
If a reset is a no-go, what are my flashing options?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Update & Additional Info: When I'm in TWRP, if I select Reboot and then Bootloader, the Firmware Update screen appears.

Alternative to downloads.codefi.re/.../ twrp-2.8.0.0_vs985-signed.img

I have an LG G3 VS985, I have rooted it using KingRoot online but I can't find a working recovery for it, all of them are invalid.
The only one I haven't tried is the one in this address:
downloads.codefi.re / thecubed / lg_g3 / bump / twrp-2.8.0.0_vs985-signed.img
That one is mostly recommended, I can access the site but when I do, it seems that my proxy blocks some ads and then I cannot access to the files. I can download any and I don't seem to find a valid alternative to those.
Can anyone hand me those files some other way, can even @thecubed try to help me with this please.
It'll be much appreciated.
Thanks
First of all, what version of the stock ROM are you rooted on? If it's anything above 12B (23C / 24B / 35B / 46A / 47A), then you can't install TWRP or any custom recovery very easily.
The best and easiest way is to downgrade to 10B (TOT method preferable but there's a 10B KDZ too), root using the Stump app that's on XDA, then use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to flash TWRP.
Then wipe Cache, Dalvik /ART and Data, flash @xdabbeb 's stock rooted 47A firmware and his 35B Bootstack.
Besides TWRP v3.0.0 that you can flash in TWRP Manager, @Dan11 makes unofficial newer versions.
Just Google for:
Code:
XDA Dan 11 G3 TWRP
But as I was saying, you can't flash TWRP from above 12B and have it work without a custom Bootstack.
I have the 47A version, but I didn't know there were a rooted 47A so I will try to downgrade to 10B using the TOT method and then follow your instructions.
I will update on any change, thanks for replying.

You're welcome! Happy flashing!
FYI flashing the TOT (or a KDZ in CSE mode, which is what should be chosen when downgrading) will wipe everything including your internal storage. You can use the built-in LG Backup to backup your user apps, user data and limited system data to your MicroSD card and then restore once you're back on rooted 47A.

47a Root

I am running 47a completely stock. Could I use kingroot to gain temp root then use twrp manager to install twrp. Then reboot into recovery and flash Jasmine rom 9.0 then 9.1 then 35b bootstack.
I made a post asking roughly the same thing earlier this week.
Here is a video someone else made earlier, worked pretty well.

To specifically address the TWRP part of that question, root isn't the only thing that TWRP needs to work on the VS985. It also needs the aboot.img (bootloader) partition downgraded to 12B or lower. Moreover, the 47A sbl1 partition in combination with the 12B bootloader causes QHSUSB_BULK 9008 mode (brick) so you have to downgrade that to 35B.
The method @inexplicability linked to is the way you need to go.

Return to Stock Failure....what did I do wrong?

Any way to return to Stock?
Yes I have tried the LgUp route....no go
Yes I have tried LG FlashTool route.......well something happened
Yes I have tried the ALL IN ONE Toolkit for Verizon......this is nothing more than the LG FlashTool route, just step by step.
History.......I flashed the new FW version 3.1.1 from XDABBEB and now I cannot flash stock again.
Best I could get is the LG FlashTool, because LGUP sees this phone now as "unkown".
When I try to flash through LG FlashTool I get null for pid and imei, yes I have used various versions of DLL that came with the TOT file.
At this point I am clueless......I can see that when I used the LG FlashTool it sees this:
Error: [14:53;5] CrossDL [VS985 4G] to [VS985]
Anybody have any ideas....thanks in advance.
i ran into the same problem also. i tried to flash back to 10b after installing @xdabbeb's 3.1.1 rom and i got the same CrossDL error almost immediately. the good news is that since the error comes up almost immediately, nothing is downloaded or flashed to your phone. you should still be able to boot into it.
i had a nandroid backup of my previous rom, which was jasmine 4.0. i flashed the 12b bootstack and then restored the nandroid. the interesting thing was that after restoring the nandroid, i still wasn't able to downgrade to 10b. i had to boot into the rom and then power back down. after that, i was able to flash 10b.
other people have reported being able to downgrade to 10b from 28a. @xdabbeb's 3.1.1 rom uses systemless root which modifies the system and/or boot image files. my guess is that the systemless root is what is preventing the downgrade to 10b from working. my suggestion is to try unrooting first and then try flashing 10b. if not, i hope you have a nandroid backup that you can restore and downgrade from.

The above, and flash any KDZ 35B or higher first, then the TOT since TOTs fix things that KDZs can't.

It failed the baseband check because you need the 35b bootstack. Do a search for xdabbeb's 35B bootstack. When yiou have that start over with a total wipe. Then flash in this order:
35b Bootstack
Cr Droid 7.1
Open Gaps ARM 7.1 (of your choice, I used pico)
35b Bootstack
Be sure to flash the 35b Bootstack first AND last. Also use TWRP, and keep using the "add zip" button until you have all 4 zips in queue THEN swipe to flash.
I've been running Cr Droid 7.1 since it was officially released several months ago, and it has worked perfectly. Been my dd since I ran across it, and I love it..
Every feature has worked for me. But I don't have BT ni my ride so I don't know about that. But Wifi, data, Hotspot, BT to other devices, Beam - they've all worked on my G3
