TWRP thinks that I use a different phone - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm a noob to Root, Recovery, flash and everything but I'm technical noob.
I just want to install CM12.1 Nightly to my Xperia Z2 (Bought it on ebay)
The official rom with Lollipop was installed.
First step, Bootloader unlock, no problem, official unlock code from Sony, use Flashtool, done.
But second step, get root access was more difficult.
I tried a few tutorials but the problem was lollipop, as far as I understand.
Than I found this tutorial:
(Google: "How-to-root-Sony-Xperia-Z2-and-Z3-on-Android-5.0.2-Lollipop")
I'm not allowed to post urls.
With some small issues everything seem to be fine.
Check with RootVerify App, root granted.
Restart TWRP starts, great!
Install choose CM 12.1 zip.
Error: "This package is for device ... sirius (I know that's my phone!); this device is leo." WHAT? NO! It's not!
Can someone help me (Noob)??
Kind regards

Make sure you have proper twrp installed that will allow you to install cm12.1.
Also you may want to try for example cwm or just manually flash boot.img (extract from rom).

I don't think that it has something to do with the TWRP version (2.8.6.0) because also in Windows it's now shown as Xperia Z3 ;(
Befor it was the correct Xperia Z2 shown.
What have I done?!
For your suggestion "just manually flash boot.img (extract from rom)" is there a tutorial?

Seems like you flashed a wrong twrp version... The default.prop has a properity that holds the device name.. Leo is z3 ... So you flashed twrp for z3 on your z2... Just flash a correct sirius version

Can you get into fastboot? Have you tried to download whatever rom you want and extract the boot.img and flash it with fastboot?
If you have an unlocked boatloads, you can always flash a boot.img with recovery. It's very hard to brick your phone.

Nah. Just use flashtool to flash stock firmware if you don't know how to get recovery working back again.
And about extracting boot.img
You open the zip which contains new system. There should be such a file. Then you just flash it using fastboot with this command: fastboot flash boot boot.img
If you want some more precise tutorial then just check out keywords like "fastboot kernel flash"

[Q] Newbie here and I need a little help

Hi
First time using android phone. I just got a Z2 D6503 model with 5.0.2 Lollipop android (in the UK), build number: 23.1.A.1.28. I would like to root my phone as some apps need to the phone to be rooted in order to work properly. So can you guys please suggest any that I can read on?
Also, I saw some posts around said that you should not mess up with bootloader (a partition which holds Sony's special features according to my narrow knowledge). As I just started to use the phone, is there anything I need to know so I don't **** my phone up in the first place, which many newbies did, 'cause I have no backup phone at the moment. Just send me some thing to read. Any help will be appreciated.
Additionally, is the stock rom of Z2 good enough? Or I should flash some other cooked rom? I don't need fancy things, just an efficient system that helps me do the work.
Thank you very much for your patience!
Cheers!
Congratulations on your new Z2!
You can read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3147932 for some explanations and a way to root.
Stock ROM is more then enough if you plan on rooting just to get your apps working

Lovely mate! Thanks a bunch! I'm doing some reading now
"Oh, and if I install Xistenz, then it is already rooted right? I'm ready in Lollipop and Xistenz developer said that I can just have to backup data, then boot into recovery, flash the rom "
Never mind, I'n reading. Just too excited asking dump questions
Hi
I followed this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/root-t3108230 to root my phone but it seems not to work.
Do you have a solid guide to root a Z2 phone? And how to backup all of my data before doing that?
OK, I have XZdual recovery 2.8 installed on my Z2, I check root using root checker and it said the phone was rooted successfully. Using ROM manager from clockmod, I also see that I have the recoveries installed. However, when I turn off the phone and on again, it does vibrate at press, then after Sony logo shows up, a red LED flash, I cant get to recovery by either pressing up and down buttons several times. What is wrong with my recovery?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what's wrong with your recovery :/ I had this problem once aswell, I fixed it by downgrading to Android 4.4.2, installed recovery and followed this guide to upgrade to lollipop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2933155. It may be an idea to try that

If I use the sony companion repair option, will I get the lollipop or a dead z2? :cyclops:

Superb! Sorry, the rom was too messy, I chose to reflash my phone OS (using flash tool) and now it is in Lollipop 5.0.2, Now what should I do next to first root, then install recovery. When I try to root the phone after flashing using flash tool, it failed to complete the task, said:

I'm in 5.0.2, build 23.1.A.1.28, the phone just auto updated after I reflash the rom
Now I need a solid root to install recovery.
What you should do is keep reading.
I only got a Z2 recently, I read everything and downgraded to 4.4.2 to root it without unlocking the boot loader. Then I backed up my TA partition in case I decide to go custom. After that I flashed it back to 5.0.2 keeping root.
I managed to do all of that by reading the information already provided. Stop being so bloody lazy.

If you want to keep root and ROM + getting 5.0.2, download the
eXistenz 2.0 zip and flash from recovery. If not, you can flash a stock 5.0.2 ROM via Flashtool.

This is because lollipop is currently not rootable. You have to downgrade to Kitkat and followed the guide to upgrade to lollipop.

Yes it is. You put the zip file on the SD card and shut off your phone. When you restart the phone again, it will vibrate and the led will light up, press the volume down button a couple of times and then chose the option "install zip", or something similar. Find the zip file you placed on your SD card and select it for flashing/installing

Do I need to clean my sd card or I can put the file there leaving all the rest? And when it updates to 5.0.2 am I going to loose my data?
Now about the zip file, my contry is Portugal, does that have anything to do with the rom version?
I'm looking for the correct zip file but this is all too new for me

You can place it where you like, without wiping any data!
Use either this: https://mega.co.nz/#!QZc23YbK!gi5mrwEQNA63565s3BCaeQrYiRkt0pd_HNmb_K16e8E or this http://www.mediafire.com/download/0b8828828cmf58c/Xperia_Z2_eXistenZ_Y_v2.0.0.zip for download
Since you already are on eXistenz, you do NOT have to wipe data, and therefore won't lose anything

Rooting guide

Is anyone willing to put together easy to follow rooting guide for Xpreria Z4 Tablet?
I am a new owner of said tablet and so far I am little lost still.
So far I have figured out that I need to unlock bootloader trough Sony developer website and then flash AndroPlusKernel v21 +, TWRP, SuperUser...
My tablet is currently running Android 5.0.2 (Build 280.A.8.260) and I am itching to upgrade to Marshmallow. Can I flash AndroPlusKernel once I upgrade to Marshmallow or do it now? I own Xpreria Z3 phone and rooting needs to be done on lower Android versions because otherwise one needs to downgrade first to root and then flash modified ROM.

Hi,
Unlocking bootloader causes a factory reset. So you lose the update to MM (I'm not sure after all
After that see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-...ooting-attempt-using-androplus-t3331928/page2

I suggest
doing an OTA update to MM while on stock (this is the easiest update path)
make sure MyXperia is OFF at all times
unlock bootloader through Sony (tablet will be wiped)
flash AndroPlus Kernel (v20+)
flash TWRP (see AndroPlus Kernel topic)
flash SuperSU
make absolutely sure MyXperia is OFF at all times
Optional: donate a bit to AndroPlus and Chainfire, or buy some of their apps / Pro licenses, to thank them for their hard work

I want to do exactly the same and have some questions.
Is app "MyXperia" installed in MM ? I'm asking because I cant find it any more.
Is it possible and safe completely uninstall "MyXperia" it after root MM ?
Any advices ?

I don't see it among apps where it could be disabled or uninstalled...

Once you flash recovery, restart your tablet and press volume down button when the white screen with SONY Xperia is on and "yellowish/greenish" LED lights up. The LED will turn orange and tablet will enter recovery. While in recovery, flash SuperSU that you have previously downloaded and saved on your tablet.

To new a device yet and it'll probably be like the z5 in that respect- unlocked Bootloader root only, unless kingroot works which I doubt yet. I'm going back stock when I get mine I think.
is it necessary for kingroot app, that you unlock the bootloader first? kingroot fails everytime with rooting my xperia x...

If the x range uses drm-verity which I think all the new Xperia device's have since z3+ then root will only be on available unlocked Bootloader devices like the z5 range is. This device is still to new. Kingroot doesn't work for now if ever. Someone needs to build kernel+working recovery. For now guessing you're all gonna have to wait same as xa owners only x device with any support so far is x performance.

Hmm... Okay... So I have unlocked Bootloader.. The internal data (sdcard) was wiped. Kingroot doesn't work, correct. All other possibilities were also without success.. I created a firmware zip with PRFcreator inclusive the supersu zip. But I can't flash it to the mobile with flashtool or adb/fastboot... A renaming of the zip to FTF doesn't work, since flashtool does not recognize the ftf file as correct ftf file. It's only possible to flash it when I have customized Recovery
Is it possible to flash this firmware zip file anyway with working supersu.zip? I read something from converting zip to ftf...
It's not possible to copy the required supersu files into the system.sin and then flash the system.sin?
Or any other possible solution without customized recovery or new kernel? (I have stock firmware with stock kernel)
Can I install now everything from new and will the apps and app data stay on mobile when someone has generated the kernel and recovery and I flashed it to my mobile? Or will I lose it again after flashing bootloader/kernel/recovery?
Do you know if there is someone who works on this topic for working kernel and recovery for xperia x? Where can I track this?
Is there any How-to how I can make this work myself? Or is it complicated? the sources of xperia x should be available on Sony developer page, as I think I saw it there yesterday.
Many thanks in advance for your responses and time!

A pre-rooted zip can only be flashed to the device with a working recovery you can't change it to a ftf and flash it via flashtool not gonna happen. As far as I know there's nobody working on kernel and working recovery for the x or xa yet. For now your just gonna have to wait like the rest of us unless you compile kernel+recovery yourself kingroot obviously wouldn't work as the device isn't supported yet shouldn't even be needed on unlocked Bootloader root

Great I'm gonna unlock my bootloader and test. Is twrp available?
Everything is working great. Im rooted and have xposed installed
This works for any single slim XA ultra? including the F3213? On any firmware?
Are there any written instructions?
Video instructions are hard to follow, especially 20 minute ones and the quality is pretty bad.
I still appreciate the work you put in though regardless.
Thanks.
Worked for me. . Just did it today, thanks rrvuhpg

U not able to get ota updates from sony if rooted.
U can find stock fw if u get flashtool..xperifirm was integrate in flashtool and u can download fw from there..
f3213 rooted and twrp'ed!
After many hours of googling I finally took the chance and used these instructions to root my f3213. I was concerned that the threads referenced did not reference the f3213 specifically and they were several months old. However, it worked like a champ. Thanks to the OP.
hi , thanks for support rrvuhpg.
work fine.
can you make a new version .146?
thanks your support
and this kernel is included twrp?
my devices is f3215

Hi, there is no modified boot for 36.0.A.2.146 that's probably why you have a bootloop.
Download 36.0.A.2.123 firmware with Xperifirm inclued with Flashtool.
Just got this I think the bootloader is already unlocked

Try to boot in fastboot mode and enter "fastboot oem unlock" without quotes. If it returns an error with (not necessary) at the end you bootloader is already unlocked.
I used this guide to root and update to .114 for F3213 a long time ago. How do I update to latest and keep all my files and root now? I have TWRP, do I just need to flash something?
Help with rooting on: F3211 36.0.A.2.146
From what i understand from this thread, this boot image does not work for 36.0.A.2.146.
I have unlocked my bootloader and flashed twrp but as i try to boot into it (according to step 9 in the guide) my phone just goes black for 1 sec and then reboots normally. I gues that is what the boot image is for.
I cannot boot it directly from fastboot using the "boot" flag because it complains about bootloader even tho it is unlocked according according to *#*#7378423#*#* and according to fastboot itself, when i try to unlock it again it says "FAILED (remote: Not necessary)".
Basically the situation seems like the one you described in:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xa/help/unlocked-bl-help-root-recovery-t3411573
When I flash a boot image I just get a boot loop. So I have flashed my phone back to stock using flashtool to: F3211 36.0.A.2.146 /R6 (nordic version). Could you provide a boot image for 36.0.A.2.146? Or could someone tell me how rooting can be done on this version or provide a link for an older version? As it seems that XperiFirm only has the latest version. I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.

[F3211/F3213/F3215][KERNEL][STOCK] Stock kernels built from sources

Hi,
I will release here my updated "boot.img" files for the Xperia XA Ultra Single Sim.
You must have an unlocked bootloader to flash with Fastboot.
You don't need to be on the same firmware as the boot image that you want to flash.
You have to flash SuperSu again from TWRP just after flashed new boot to avoid bootloop.
All boot images have "ro.secure=0" and "ro.debuggable=1" in default.prop file
and "forcencrypt" of internal memory switched to "encryptable" in fstab.mt6755 file.
The Fastboot command is:
fastboot flash boot NAMEOFIMAGE.img

Nothing. I made it for rooted users and because you can't repack the kernel from "ftf" firmware. (usefull if you want to play with the ramdisk)
You can ask Sony for a kernel changelog
36.2.A.2.109 boot fix the front camera not focusing after root, thanks to @Xaultra for the feedback.
Thank you for your updated kernels, I'll try them when I have a chance.
Out of interest have you seen the development being done for the Z5 kernels on this thread...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...oot-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605
Do you think we could ever have such a tool working for the XA Ultra?

Maybe yes, porting some tools is possible but as you can see we don't have any dev or power users for our devices and I will not try to do all alone, I don't have enough coffee.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Appleknight based on his reply in the other thread. I've got a more-than-full-time job, a lot of other interests, no experience compiling kernels and no time to learn.
I understand that it probably gets frustrating putting in all the work and not getting much in the way of recognition or gratitude for it, so I understand if you have chosen not to produce a root-pack for Nougat. That being said, If you (or anyone else with the skills to do so) would produce a root-pack for nougat on my 3213, I'd be more than happy to donate - say $20. Not sure if anyone else is interested in sweetening the pot...

Sorry but I'm not interested, I'm not a mercenary.
I prefer receiving 20 cents from 100 users because they like my work (or 100 thanks ?) rather than $20 from one user because it need my work. I hope that you understand my point of view. But I'm sure that your offer will motivate some people.
I can respect that.
