I've tried other forums, hopefully you can help.. Screen Rotation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a Minix Neo X8H Plus. Basically a TV box running Android.
Everything is running brilliantly apart from some apps require portrait orientation to access settings, for example CCTV viewer apps, and TuneIn Radio...
There are no settings for display rotation, and I have tried all the top apps for forcing screen rotation with no luck.
Does anybody have a solution? So happy with this new device, I just want to be able to view my CCTV cameras and playback on my TV but unable to as the settings are hidden in portrait menus. I also don't want to lose my current settings and Nova launcher home screen setup, and hours of playing around, trying out different widgets, icon sizes, etc,etc it's finally perfect.
Thank you :good:

i have not found any way, i have downloaded launcher pro, (free version available) and that allows portrait home screen, also the ability to hide the notification bar, and afew other tweeks, the apps draw can also be viwd in portrait, but strangly the dial pad stays in landscape.
if you want me to i can upload a few pics for you, please note i also have beautiful widgets (sense like) clock on my home screen.
When I used default launcher one time I somehow got it to portrait but when I tried again it didn't worked...
I had some app force close when it happened...
@ghosty_uk thanks for the suggestion I already instaled LauncherPro but there's something about it I don't like. Anyway it's not a big deal.
thanks.

[Q] Viewpad 7- Changing the dial pad orientation to portrait mode

Hi All,
I am new to viewpad 7 as well as xda. I have recently purchased viewsonic viewpad 7 . I want few settings for this device . I tried everything but not able to do so .
1) I want my home screen to be in portrait mode (by default it is in landscape mode).
2) I want my dialpad, calllog, contacts, dialing screen all in portrait mode . I tied everything but not able to do it. I tried installing go contact but of no use . contact came in portrait mode . But whenever I dial any number , it switches to lanscape mode automatically.
3) Which is the best mp4 converter for this tablet(avi-------mp4).
4) Is there any avi player available for viewpad 7?
Assumed you are rooted, download & try VTL.Launcher from Market (free) - and set home screen to portrait mode. It will startup and return to portrait mode, but some apps will rotate and run in landscape mode (i.e. dialer) while others will auto-rotate.
As always, do a TB and Nandroid Backup first.
Stock video player isn't of much utilities, download Mobo Player (free) as it will run avi format (and it will prompt you to install the codec for ARM6 cpu)
Also, I recommend Dolphin HD browser instead of basic/stock browser.
Have fun with it ....
currently i have same question too about dialer.
is there any launcher or something that could turn the dialer screen to portrait ?
coz i've tried every launcher and there's no way to switch the orientation of the dialer.
btw, after several launcher i've tried, i go to basic/stock launcher which is more stable and faster (but still sometimes its bothering me when i see a landscape orientation for dialer screen ^_^
thanks before.......

I am new to viewpad . What is meant by "You are rooted" ? And how we can do that ?
Fair question and as newbie here, I see that you have a few questions, all related, posted here. Okay, let's get started -
Grab a writing pad, pen or pencil, and start making notes as you progress - set aside a few hours to do this as you do not want to rush & "soft" brick your Vpad7, beginning with the basics:

Follow suggestions to backup to m(icro)SD card as you do things - good luck !

Navbar disappears when landscape

Can anyone confirm that it's not just me? M5 8.4 inch UK model (normally using Nova launcher) set display view mode to small (in order for some apps to see this as a tablet not phone) and on rotation to landscape the navigation bar/buttons disappear.
(Leaving on default and the navbar stays at the side on rotation - though I'd prefer it on the bottom.)
Using developer options to set dpi to 680 makes the navbar appear but with only the home button showing.
Huawei support suggest a factory reset, which I've already done to enforce the DRM change in the recent update, so doubt it would make any difference.
Surely is not just my tablet?

me too, the support told me to wait a future update...
I had what sounds like a somewhat similar issue using Nova Launcher and the 10 inch model. In landscape mode the nova dock would stay vertical on the right side instead of moving to the bottom, even if the screen orientation was set to auto-rotate in the nova settings / look and feel.
It was fixed by simply changing the View Mode setting to small in Settings / Display. Didn't have to mess with DPI manually or anything. With the View Mode to small I don't have any problems with the dock or the navigation bar.

Thanks, it's good to know that it's a general issue with the tablet.

This is probably just a side effect of the default DPI value, Nova treats the tablet as a phone, where it's normal to have the navbar on the side when in landscape. Switching display mode moves to a more compact DPI setting. Good to know that the navbar works, it suggests it's just an issue with the 8.4 that should get fixed.
For those annoyed by this, just wanted to mention that Ultimate Dynamic Navbar works, at least partially, if you are rooted (maybe even if you aren't). It's a navbar replacement that is fully customizable, fully collapsible, and will rotate with the device.
For me, I can't map home/recents/back functions to the softkeys - but a.) I haven't experimented, b.) the UDN softkeys can still be used to launch custom apps and for various other functions like switching to the "previous app," c.) the UDN navbar can be used in conjunction with your existing navbar setup, and d.) it's a lightweight app that is fully collapsible, so you have little to lose by installing it.
Known issue
This youtuber describes this exact issue amongst other issues:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qef...b3uy2lez3h4b2rhtpst1w03c010c.1526416319255488
Now fixed (at least partly) with firmware 8.0.0.151. When display size is set to small, the nav bar now stays visible on the short side, though I'd prefer it on the long side. Not a complete fix, in that when changing DPI in developer settings, it just shows the single home button on the long side.
The device offers you the option to use the fingerprint button for navigation. You can find the option at system settings / navigation

Cast / Mirroring Icon - Notification Pull Down Menu?

is this feature stock on the galaxy view? i don't have the icon in my notification / quick settings pull down menu, nor does it appear if i select edit to show the available icons... further, does the galaxy view actually have a mirroring app that allows you to cast your tablet to your tv, that mirrors exactly what you see on your tablet, as opposed to just being able to cast when in certain apps, such as video player?
i'm using chromecast ultra and once the google home app has been installed on the galaxy view, casting to a tv works fine, however there are like 6 steps (clicks) you have to go through in order to finally get to "cast screen / audio".
what i'm ultimately trying to accomplish is cast my galaxy view to my tv with as few steps as possibly, 2 clicks at the most, am i dreaming?

[Easy Guide] Force dual screen wide view on ALL apps

Hello all!
I've seen it somewhat posted throughout the comments here but no thread on it directly. I figure the potential of this this deserves it's own thread and tutorial for those who are coming from Google to try and do exactly this without reading through a few threads.
Anyways:
How to enable Wide View on every app:
Download this app,G8x WideMode.
This puts a new icon in the top bar in the notification shade. If you don't see it, pull down twice and hit the pencil to edit the icons. Find the new one and place it somewhere near the top to keep it close by.
When the dual screen is open, tapping that will force wide screen in every app! There are some limitations:
Intent changes seem to revert the phone back to two separate pages. For instance, the mobile Reddit app Sync closes wide screen if I click any link to an external picture, video or site.
Some apps do f play nice in wide screen due to this, and you can't keep the phone permanently in the mode like a tablet, but it's a great improvement to a great phone idea.
This is super simple so I didn't think pictures were necessary, but let me know if I wasn't clear on anything or if you have problems somewhere!
This is very much appreciated! It works like a charm. It's not the floating dual screen thingy but the toggle buttons that you swipe down from the top. Make sure you add it.
Hey, this app seems to work great! I did have an issue with one app called Steam Link. Steam Link allows you to connect to a computer running Steam and remotely control it from your Android device. When I launch a game and try to use WideMode the Steam Link app refreshes and goes back to a single screen. I would love to be able to play some of my steam games over both screens.
Is there any way to make landscape apps go left/right instead of top/bottom?

I don't understand. couldn't you just auto rotate? you can also use the rotation control app to lock rotation, which helps with wide Mode

auto rotation did not work because some apps are forced landscape/portrait.
I did end up using the rotation control app with the per-app conditions. :good:
Next nice thing would be if some apps would restart at the new resolution, instead of stretching the single-screen app - some apps/games work perfectly, but others don't (and I think they should have a similar resolution compatible because I've used the axon M, which has "dual screen" retained through home with those apps).
