Device backup not showing in restore options - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a very frustrating problem. I have an NVIDIA Shield tablet that has been recalled due to a battery problem. I have the replacement tablet here and when I go through trying to set it up I do not see the backup of the old tablet as an available source to restore onto the new tablet.
I have verified that Android Device Manager is enabled AND that my old tablet shows up in my Google account. I can also locate the device from my Google account.
Even with all of that working, I still do not see my old tablet listed as a source to restore onto my new tablet. (I do see several other Android devices that I own in the list.)
I have attempted clearing the cache from Google Play Services but that did not work either. I also thought that maybe I was missing an update to Google Play Services but I can't seem to find it in the store.
Would appreciate any suggestions!
TIA!

CRAP!
Just saw I put this under development! Sorry!
Hope a mod can move it to the proper place! Thanks!

[Q] Where is my device in web based market?

I have read nearly all the "Market Fix" threads and can't find an answer to this. And I have tried searching as well, but pulled no results from the gTablet forums, so my apologizes if this seems like a double post of something already discussed.
When I access the Android Market via my pc, it says that I do not have any devices and can not install from there. I can merely browse. Now when I first flashed Vegan 5.1.1, I saw my device but now it's gone. I have not changed my account since I started and signing out and back in has not resolved this.
Also is it normal to have to apply the "fix" on a regular basis? Even before my device disappeared from my web settings, I have noticed a few times that my Market web searches often show results my Market app does not.
Thanks.
Does your tablet still have access to the Market?
While it's not typically needed to do the fix "again", I have read and experienced it myself where the Market seems to have reset itself back to its pre-fixed state.
This happened to me when the Market updated itself from 2.x to 2.x1 or whatever version it pushed down. I had to do the Market Fix again after that....this time quite a few times to make it work.
The Market on your device is designed to show you what apps are available for your device (ie hardware features and OS version) while the view you see from the Web is everything, regardless of hardware/OS version.
Do your Market Fix until you have a significantly "full" market and download something from the Market on your device. Check back on the web and see if you see it.
I've switched ROMs and such and still see my device (though it's name/info has changed on the website).
Thaks for your reply.
The market is accessible from my gTab, the device just does not show up via the web Market (either from pc or DolphinHD).
My big concern is that I will be upgrading my phone to a HTC Inspire this week and I want to make sure the apps I have purchased will be available when I add the new phone. If I don't have a device in the web store, will it effect my ability to get to all my apps?
As long as you use the same gmail account on your phone you should be able to get all the apps you purchased.
Not sure why your tablet does not show on the web market. We have 2 phones and the gtab on the same account, and they all show up on the web.
Maybe you find a solution in google help https://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=1141080 or the tab magically shows up once you have your phone.

Anyone else locked out of Amazon Market?

I'm using the stock os ... and in upgrading my Amazon market have now found that I can't access Amazon App Store any more. I'm told that (everything I try) is incompatible with my device. It used to work, though. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's the answer from Amazon:
Hello Al,
I am truly sorry about the troubles that you have been having. I have contacted our development team about this issue here about one week ago. They informed me that there was a increase devices that are not compatible with our apps, but they did not mean for it to take out almost everything for devices that clearly can handle the apps. They are working on getting it fixed but right now there is now estimated time for them to get this completed.
Thank you for your patients and look forward to seeing your soon.
Thank you for your recent inquiry. Did I solve your problem?
EPIC FAIL on Amazons part. On a side note, that was on a Froyo rom (calk+clemv6). I'm now on HC (GTabComb3.3) & Amazon work with it.
i an into this problem last week. Deleted the data and cache from the application itself, re-entered my login information, and everything was magically compatible again.
Go to Settings, applications, manage applications, all, find Amazon appstore, and delete cache, then delete data, force close it. Close settings, restart appstore. You'll need to provide login information again, and it shoul work.
Still getting Not Compatible message in Amazon Appstore
I have a Viewsonic G Tablet with the stock operating system, except I did repatition the sd card. When I loaded everything back up I saw that all of my apps were not in my account. At that time I was able to search manually and find and install them, but now I can't even do that. I tried loading the previous version of the appstore but the apps were still not in my account and when I found them it would redirect me to load them from my account, where they are not at. Has anyone found a way around this yet?

I've run into this as well. Amazon rebuilt their compatibility list at some point and the gTab is not listed as incompatible with nearly every app in the store. The reason your apps don't show up is that incompatible apps are filtered from search results, including your purchased apps. This restriction also seems to apply to the installer as well. Don't know any workarounds. I've already contacted Amazon on multiple occasions to bring this matter to their attention, but no action seems to have been taken.

Worked for me, I was getting increasing numbers of incompatible notifications especially for the free app of the day.
Amazon should learn...
About the only thing that the Amazon market had going for it, other than FAoD, is that I didn't have to worry about apps not appearing in searches because someone didn't recognize my device. As a frequent ROM flasher on a number of android devices, it's a pain when a market search shows up nothing even when you know it's there.
Amazon shouldn't follow google in this. If anything, they can just post a disclaimer "This app is not compatible with your device, if you want to purchase it anyway, click here, waiving any liability if it crashes your device, and indicating that you understand that you won't get a refund if it doesn't work." Or even just give advanced users a flag in their profile to sign this disclaimer once and turn on the ability to download "incompatible" apps.
Sometimes I get error logging that's about it

[Q] Android market question

I just got a Nook tablet and will probably root it, depending on the answer I get here.
I have a login to the Android market but I have no Android device registered because the Nook is my first. However, I don't see the Nook as a device in the list of devices.
Once I've rooted the device and logged onto Android market using it, will the rooted Nook be recognized as a valid device? It hasn't been thus far.
Otherwise how do you get an Android device to be associated with your Android market account?
Thanks

Yes, it will show as BNTV250.
i have gotten many things to run, obviously nothing that is made for the tegra chip will work on this without a hack because the NT uses an TI chip, but Most, maybe 85% of what I have tried works.
Is there a work-around for apps that the Market doesn't think are compatible? Looking for a few common apps like Flixster and Facebook and the Market says This item not compatible with your device. But I can pull down the apk from another site and it works fine.

That is the workaround. We may eventually be able to get around this by modifying build.prop, but not yet.
Gotcha, thanks. Some apks are just a little harder to find than others...still looking for the newest Directv DVR scheduler app. My version won't work anymore.

Polaroid PMID720 and Google Play

Hey, I'm new to the forum and wanted to say thanks in advance for the help and to mention that I searched the forum before posting so I apologize if I've overlooked something.
I recently purchased a Polaroid PMID720 dual core Android 4.1 tablet to keep myself busy at work and I don't have access to the Google Play store, I had purchased a Polaroid PMID701 for my daugher for Christmas and had no problem getting the Google Market installed but so far I haven't been able to do the same with this one. I initially triend installing the older Google Market following the instructions found at the-digital-reader website (these are the instructions I used for my daughter's 701) but after I get it installed and attempt to start the app it crashes when I try to add my Google account. While searching I've stumbled onto the thread for the Polaroid AIO software several times but Southern Telecom (the company that makes the Polaroid tablets) doesn't offer the firmware for the PMID720 on their website.
I know that this is far from a high end tablet - it was purchased to watch a few videos, read some ebooks, and screw around on the web when I'm dead at work - but not having access to the Google Play store severly limits its usefulness (the Amazon store suuuucks). Any advice is appreciated and, again, thanks in advance for the help.

Google: "Installing Google Play without rooting on Android Mobiles or Tablets"
I cannot enter the url. I had the same exact problem as you. This method has worked for me (I also have PMID720 and got the same error as you when following the instructions that worked with earlier models).
While I was able to get Android Market installed, Google Services seemed to crash constantly. Also, none of the music apps running on the PMID720 recognized the playlists on my SD card (the same playlists that worked flawlessly on my old Emerson EMS543 and another Android device).
So, my solution was to return the PMID720 and exchange for a PMID705. Yes, it's slightly slower and less memory, but everything works: Android Market, Play Lists, etc... And, it was $30 cheaper.
I followed the instructions at:
http://www.the-digital-reader.com/2...ps-gplay-etc-on-polaroi-pmid701/#.UN48FG9X2WZ
The Play Store would say 'blah no data provisioning' or 'no reliable service...'.
I then went to Settings>Accessibility and at the bottom there is box to enhance web accessibility. I turned that on and launched the Market and followed the prompts. Afterwards a Google account was in my settings and I could access my apps at the Play Store. I then reset the Accessibility setting to 'Not Allowed' because I do not know what all it does.
I should also mention that I altered my '/etc/hosts' file, but I am not sure that was needed. I immediately downloaded the XDA app and saw your post. Wierd, huh?
Hope this helps.
Edit: I erased the google market and retried my steps and they failed. I had to install the apps in this order to get it to work again (I did leave the Accessiblity feature on again):
1) OneTimeInitializer-signed.apk
2) SetupWizard.apk
3) GoogleServicesFramework-signed.apk
4) vending-3.1.3-signed.apk
When I tried to connect with my gmail I got the same errors as above until I rebooted my tablet, it then finally connected. I sincerely hope this works for you. Also if you have installed any of the above, delete their data and reinstall.

I followed your instructions, but after the reboot, I still got the no data provisioning error. I then toggled the wifi to airplane mode and back and then I was able to sign in and download apps from the Market and the Gmail app began syncing. Chuck

That post will tell you all you need to know to get Google Play Store (the ICS version, whatever that was) on your PMID720. I just finished doing it, and it is working fine. If only my wireless at home was! lol
I used the wireless adb portion of the play_alpha2 package. It worked flawlessly, once I realized which copy I needed to download. They all have exactly the same name, but they're not all identical packages.
Good luck!

Updated method!!!
I can't be the only one out here still using this tablet and trying to figure out how to improve it! The Google Apps are still working just fine. No forced closes or errors of any kind. I am pleased as punch about this, but it's kinda frustrating to come in so late in the game and find nobody looking anymore.

Can't Access Google Play or YouTube apps after factory Reset

I bought a used - factory reset Asus prim TF201 and entered my Google account. I plan on just using it to display slideshows of travel pics using a digital photo app connected to Google Photos. For some reason I can't access Google Play. I get "server error" message and retry button but never can connect. WiFi is working as I am getting emails.
Also can't access YouTube. There i get a message "there was a problem starting up" "check your network connection and system time".
I've checked everything, cleared caches in multiple Google services, removed and reinstalled my Google account, force stopped apps, connected it to my Verizon phone wifi hotspot, changed tablet time from automatic and back again, with no success. If I can't connect to Google Play then I can't download slideshow app and Google Photos. I've tracked every thread I have found on how to fix this but no luck.
I'm communicating with seller and will likely return tablet.
Anything else to try to fix this?
Thanks

i think its FRP lock but idk i never have it
Which Android version are you using? Last official firmware (Android 4.1) is no longer supported by google. Although I use newer version on my TF201, I had similar problems with play services on some phones with Android 4.x.
Mine is stock TF201 now running 4.1.1. May I ask how difficult it is to install new version of android so that Google Play and Googl Photos will work for me? What version are you now running on your TF201. Is it something you'd be willing to talk me through?
Thanks

I use android 11 and 8
Couple of questions as I have no knowledge on how to do this.
1) Since I would want access to Google Photos and Google Play after upgrading ROM - either android 11 or 8 as you have - would these Google functions work? I thought I read on some thread that after you flash a new ROM that you lose access to these Google type functions. If that were the case how would I download various Android apps after flashing to new rom?
2) I have asked the photo slide show developer (app I use is Fotoo) if it could be sideloaded (I've never done that with an app) onto my tablet and I would just take all my Google Photos and copy them to internal storage on my tablet so Google Photos was unneeded but he hasn't responded yet.
3) Obviously it would be cleaner to flash a new ROM - 11 or 8 IF both would then access Google Plaay and Photos - but from reading the descriptions of how to do this it may be beyond my tech abilities. I guess I have nothing to lose as current tablet running 4.1.1 is not of much use since it appears I have no chance of getting it to access Play or Photos since 4.1.1 is not supported any longer by these Google service. BTW, my Gmail comes in fine on tablet though stock browser is flaky.
4) I've looked for a simple step by step procedure on how to do this but some of the XDA posts with links to the necessary files are 7 years old and the links lead nowhere. like this one
[Guide/tutorial] Asus Transformer Prime/TF201 stock to Android 7.1 Nougat
[GUIDE/TUTORIAL] Asus Transformer Prime to Android 7.1/LineageOS 14.1 [GUIDE/TUTORIAL/HOWTO] Asus Transformer Prime/TF201 stock to Android 7.1 Nougat/LineageOS 14.1 This detailed step-by-step guide helps you transform your Asus Transformer Prime...
forum.xda-developers.com
5) If you are willing to walk me through this process I'd be happy to pay you some for your efforts.
Just not sure I grasp how to do this and where to find all necessary files.
Thanks for considering.
