Bought a "New" Galaxy S6 From Expedite Electronics, Already Rooted And Battery Overheats - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been sold a dodgy s6? Expedite Electronics
Hi guys,
Yesterday I recived a S6 from Expedite Electronics. It is suppose to be new. It looked new but I noticed it had SuperSU installed.... Its been rooted. Also I was only downloading a couple of apps whilst browsing and the phone got red hot. The battery was also draining at a phenomenal rate.
How do I take it completely back to stock? I unistalled supersu and tried a factory reset, that took me to a black screen which amougst other things said 'dm-verity verification failed'. What does this mean? Have I been sold a dodgy phone?
I would like to keep the phone but I just want it not to burn my hand off and the battery to last more than 2 hours.
I'm not bothered about having it rooted. I dabbled with it on my old phone but never really grasped what it was all about.

Sounds like you got a returned one that's not been checked I would contact the store and get it replaced

Yeah definitely got a used one that someone returned. Good luck getting a replacement though as they'll probably not believe that you received it rooted ..

I paid via Paypal..... I'm going to open a case.
I'm not bothered about keeping it if I could revert it to stock. Cos I cba with the hassel of returns.

I'm new to this I've no idea what that is.
Is there anything you can point me in the direction of that will educate me on it?

It reads KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 1 (0X0500)
What does that mean?

It means if you try to get a warranty replacement, you are out of luck.
Every smartphone comes with a 1 year warranty, but root voids the warranty.
On Samsung phones KNOX is a piece of software baked into the bootloader.
When KNOX reads 0x0 your warranty remains intact;
if it read 0x1, or anything else, your warranty is void; It is much harder to replace

Send it back. As its been rooted the knox has been triggered which might void warranty and samsung pay wont work when its launched, u paid for a brand new phone.

I'd better get it sent back then, this is supposed to be a Brand New phone. Obviously not.
Just so people know. This phone was from online company Expedite Electronics. To be fair, they are cheap...... but this is probably the reason why!

When you send it back, do not tell them it is rooted.
Tell them it was not in the condition you were told it would be in.
This is one reason why I may never buy a smartphone online.
When I buy one in person, I can closely inspect it before handing over the cash.

Ah, too late :/
I have already lodged a complain. Telling them it has arrived with SuperSU installed, which raised my suspicion, then I found out it was rooted and knox had been tripped.
Have I dropped a bollack there!
This is not of my making, I hope Paypal backs me up on this one. I did lodge a complaint within 24 hours of receiving the phone.

You should be ok. Paypal usually always go in favour of the buyer. Im in the UK and theyve been really good with me, never had a problem.

UPDATE: I returned the phone about 2 week ago now. I cannot get in touch with Expedite Electronics so I opened a case with Paypal. For reasons I cannot fathom, Paypal sided with expedite even though I provided all the information they asked for and Expedite did not even respond!
It looks like I'm £450 out of pocket. Gutted isn't the word.
Just writing this so hopefully people Googling them will find it and maybe it will stop other people from dealing with this horrible company.

It sounds like you were very unlucky. I also bought my S6 Edge from Expedite Electronics for £388 (32MB) and it was in a sealed Samsung box and was definitely brand new.

Sounds like a job for the small claims court

So they have your money and your phone now? Id class that as theft then, im surprised PayPal didnt go in your favour. I bought a S6 Edge off a seller on Ebay the guy didnt pay hes contract bill with 02 so the phone was blocked, id gone past the 45 days protection with Paypal, Ebay didnt give a damn. Paypal surprisingly helped me out and i got a refund after sending phone back tracked which PayPal had requested.
Im really sorry they weren't as helpful with you. Did Paypal request that you send the phone back to the seller? Because usually they would only request that if they sided with you.

Yes they requested I send it back. I sent it back. I sent it Royal Mail Special Delivery. I then uploaded the tracking number and receipt. A couple of days later they settled in the sellers favour because 'my return evidence was unacceptable' .
I've absolutely no idea what they are talking about. They have yet to replied to my email. I'm going to phone them.
But Expedite did actually reply to me today after a week of no communication. They said they have been having email problems and are looking into my refund.
Fingers crossed!

Anyone ACTUALLY Warrantied an Unlocked/Re-Locked?

If anyone out there in XDA-land has actually warrantied an unlocked or re-locked phone (in store and/or via the 1-800 number), could you please chime in and post your experience (whether you did store or 800 and what happened).
I realize that it may still be too early to ask this question, because the true kicker is whether someone down the supply chain (in store, then in Verizon, then in HTC) noticed and charged back to your account; as there may not have been enough time for bills to generate after such a chain, but I would love to hear of actual experiences.
If possible, there is no need to report back on Amazon or Best Buy or Guy-On-The-Corner They have different policies. This is a Verizon Corporate inquiry. If anyone sent it back to Verizon, did Verizon ultimately charge you for a new Rezound. Thanks
(I realize there is another thread debating whether or not HTC shares with Verizon, and whether Verizon employees are trained to check. This is not that hypothetical inquiry; I am hoping that only people who ACTUALLY did the swap report in).
Thanks!
This is interesting to me. I'm stuck wanting the "normal", for lack of better words, root and s-off method from the community. I knew that the employees don't care about root as long as they can set it back to stock. That's what I heard from my friend that worked there. I don't know about the HTC unlock though.
I did it with my first rezound. (i baught them at bestbuy for their replacement plan) no questions asked. GIVE ME NEW PHONE, they gave, I was happy.
not that this helps right now, but i should be able to give you an idea in a few days. bought my rezound on the 9th and unlocked and flashed that night, data started not connecting at all on the 13th. called vzw tech support on the 17th telling them what was going on, no mention of whether it was unlocked from either side, got my warranty replacement today. gonna send back the old phone tomorrow.
I had the 'can't charge dead batteries issue' the other night. Went to store and replaced with new battery. No problems.

Well - You did come closest to answering out of all the other responses PLEASE let us know if you ever get billed for it (which can take months).
When I turned my Charge in to Best Buy for the upgrade plan, the dude actually SHOWED OFF to the other folks how modded that thing was, he was in awe. As much flashing I did on that thing, it should have melted. They don't care, or are not paid enough TO care. Never had a problem at the VZW store either, but those guys are usually idiots anyways.
Local best buy for me looked for a superuser app, didn't see it, then exchanged the phone. Had they looked at the bootloader they would have seen the relocked. Bunch of idiots...lol.

While Best Buy is not relevant (they probably have their own policies), that is kind of disturbing. It means they are looking.
Anyone actually do this with *VERIZON*, would love to hear if they ultimately charge you.
I know this is not exactly the same, but I exchanged my old Samsung Fascinate for a Droid Charge under warranty through Verizon. I restored the Fascinate but forgot to restore the kernel. It showed some hacked version under the system settings and was really obvious.
I sent it back and never heard anything about it...
i'm curious, if they do charge wouldn't that mean they should send me the phone that was broken back since in theory i would have purchased the second phone at full price?

YES! That is why I was hoping to hear of people's actual responses with Verizon. Not having much luck with the "actual" or "verizon" part of the inquiry, but it is probably still too early to really know. The phone hasn't been unlocked long enough for people to unlock, decide they need to warranty replace, exchange it with VERIZON, and then get another bill cycle or 2 or 3 to see if they were charged.
... but I keep hoping to hear from anyone who actually warrantied an unlocked phone back to a Verizon corporate store or Verizon 800. As time goes by, maybe we will learn
doh! not exactly what i wanted to hear to start my friday morning.

Please do. I suspect it will take months (has to get from Verizon store to headquarters as part of however often they ship, then Verizon has to batch all their warranty replacements back to HTC {if that's how they do it} however often they ship, then HTC has to notice {if they ever do} and push back {if they ever do}, and the Verizon has take the pushback and bill). I suspect that this can take months, at which point the question will be moot (because it will be as it will be), but it was a pipe dream of mine to see what actually happens, given the amount of guessing going on.
Good luck!
I don't see from a legal standpoint how they can do anything...soon as the phone is in their possession they are taking responsibility for it no? Therefore if it is not covered by HTC for some reason, it would be there fault.

There was a ridiculous number of acknowledgment clicks re voided warranty through the unlock process. I would consider this situation exactly like if you brought a phone to Verizon saying it won't work, and the somewhere down the line someone finds the water sensor tripped. The dude behind the counter at Verizon is not going to know at the time, but as the phone winds its way through the warranty replacement chain, someone will figure it out; and they probably will charge you for your replacement.
No one would be screaming 'illegal' in that case; and I believe the cases are identical.
Please note - I hope this is not the case; I have not unlocked my phone (despite desperately wanting to run Nils' ROM) because I dont have $650 to start again. BUT, I can easily see the parallel here.

I don't know how to feel about that either. When an employee of a cellphone provider looks at the available water marks and SAYS your phone is fine and has not received water damage and they are going to replace it for you...anything found afterwords is Verizon's own fault and they will have to deal with. I actually had apple try and pull that once. Had am iPhone where the wifi card was bad, tech at apple looked at their two water markers and said it was fine, that there was a definite issue and shed replace it. Got a call from apple saying the water marker was tripped and I'd have to pay for the replacement. I told them exactly what happened and they left me alone real quick.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
... and there you go. That is the heart of my inquiry.
The initial person (counter at the store) will be irrelevant, and if people turn in Re-Locked phones, will they ultimately get charged by Verizon EXACTLY the way Apple proceeded with you.

[Q] What warranty will rooting void?

What I'm asking is, will rooting void Samsung's warranty, or the 2 year extended warranty from Best Buy, or both? Cause I really wanna test CM9 for this. But I have Best Buy's 2 year extended warranty.

Rooting will void Samsung's warranty. You can unroot the ROM so they will not notice in case you need service.
I ignore if you can go back to the stock kernel if you flash a new one, Samsung can just enter on CWM and that way they will know your warranty is screwed.
I have an extended warranty as well on Best Buy, and what they told me is that not matter what happens with the device, they will replace it with a new one in case you need it.
But, and this is a big BUT, we are talking about Best Buy, a screwed up company with sale associates that know next to nothing about what they sale, and you could be in a situation where you need to replace your device because you accidentally bricked it, and they will tell you that hacking is not covered under their extended warranty, even though someone else told you it does.
Weight your options. But my advice is: do it!. Root the damn thing, that way you will learn more, and if you brick it, then you could buy another one (hopefully). After all, these are cheap machines.
you'd just flash back to stock via odin and be done with it
So if i drop it and the screen cracks and its rooted with stock rom will i still be covered under bestbuy warranty or will i have to unroot

The guy in a blue Polo was either misinformed or lying. Best Buy's extended service plans on electronics like phones/media players suck horribly. Ignoring the fact that they don't cover lost/stolen devices or devices that have been immersed in water (considered how vague that exclusion is, and how hard it would be for them to tell the difference in water damage from being splashed and being dunked, I'm guess you'll have an uphill battle getting any water damage covered). If you attempt to file a claim they WILL attempt to fix it first. Which means sending it off somewhere to sit on a shelf for weeks before a tech even looks a the thing. Only if the tech decides he can't fix it will you get a replacement, which is probably refurbished. If the tech thinks he's fixed it they'll send it back. I say think because if the problem is intermittent it's quite likely the tech will simply not notice the player is still broken.
If you can still cancel the service plan, you're better off getting you're money back. Honestly, extended warranties aren't worth the money. By their very nature you HAVE to get less financial benefit out of them then they cost, period. In order for the guy selling the warranty to make a profit you have to be on the losing end of the deal. Stick some money in the back to put towards a replacement, or you're next device if all goes well. If you still feel better with some kind of coverage, you should be able to get covered by Square Trade, or other 3rd party companies.

I agree. Basically, that company sucks as a whole.
I HAD to get an extended warranty because I hard bricked my first Player, and when I try BB to "honor" their warranty, they told me I have 2 options, either send the device to Samsung and wait weeks for a new device to arrive, or they could make an exception for me if I pay $65 to get an Extended Warranty.
I payed them, they got me a new device and I still have a little less than a year of this bullcrap warranty left.
I was SO GLAD when I read BB have to close stores down across the country due to weak profits. I hope they will do much worse over time. </end rant>
I've actually had great experiences buying phones from them. I was able to get my razr for $100 less than what Verizon was selling it for. Before that I'd gotten the Droid incredible for $50 off, and a full three Weeks sooner than I would have gotten it from Verizon (Verizon was backordered a full month at that point). My gf got her Maxx for $150 from best buy, and got it 2 days later (versus atleast 2 Weeks).
That being said, their service is terrible, and I won't let the geek squad do any work for me if they were paying me their exorbitant labor rates. On the plus side, I was able to spend an hour and a half playing keyboards and guitars without a single employee acknowledging my existence. In my book that's s huge improvement from when their sales floor were on commission.

Contribution to the BB Tangent
I hate to add to the Best Buy meme on an Android forum, but thought it might be helpful in an ancillary way: I have a buddy who worked for the Geek Squad for years, him having a large amount of contracting experience through family (all the while he grew up) and about as much with electronics, so he built entertainment systems, did tv mounts, and was "the solutions guy" for customers who called with special needs and projects: was paid well too. (I despise them as much as anyone for exhorbitant pricing!)
He buys his laptops there still, because of the warranties (and perhaps a good credit line): he's that big clumsy oaf who will drop something a bunch, and thus far they have honored warranties even for drops that crack screens; he also seems to have that "luck" of laptops dying...one to three months before a warranty runs out (and he really isn't the type to kill one just to get another new--close enough, in fact, that he tells me about anything shady he does, and breaking laptops on purpose to take advantage of warranties isn't among things he'll do), and despite this having happened multiple times, they have honored those warranties: usually with newer model replacement computers too.
So depending on the store and terms, sometimes it can be worth looking into Best Buy: read everything carefully and compare. If you're paranoid about bad things happening to your devices, or have reason to believe something probably will. Or you can do like me, and talk the Lenovo reps 1200+ dollars off of the normal pricing, and then push beyond their lowest deals by explaining the problems with unclear marketing and deal offers, and then convince them to throw in a few upgrades for free. : D And insure elsewhere. Maybe I'll keep this in mind, however, and get his advice for you, if the guy isn't too busy right now.
Happy purchases.

I have a Galaxy S3 with protection plan from Best Buy ($10 a month) with sprint service and I recently bricked my phone. I went to Best Buy and they was able to give me a new GS3 (refurbished) in about three days. With a $50 deposit I received a loaner phone (lower grade but still an android smartphone). My $50 was refunded at the return of the loaner phone. So I would say ROOT ROOT ROOT!!! it is so worth it! Why not experience the full features of your device? Just for the record....Best Buy's geek squad does not fix the phones on location in most cases so your phone has to be sent out. The way their company works is, as soon as your phone is in their computer system the factory sends out the refurbished phone. So in all actuality they never see your phone until your at home rooting the new one.....you are very welcome!

Rooting does not void your warranty. I rooted my phone and bricked it. i have a Metro PCS galaxy mega 6.3. I called Samsung and informed them that i bout it second hand like this and i want it back to normal. They told me it is still under warranty and they will email me shipping labels. They fixed everything for free. I complained before they sent it back that Samsung's website says my Phone should have Kit Kat. So I told them that is false advertisement and that is wrong lol. Everyone on the internet says they only have gingerbread. Metro Pcs is the red headed step child of the mobile industry so they didn’t get the over the air update. I complained about this to Samsung and they informed me that they will be upgrading my Mega with Kit Kat. Don’t believe everything you see on the internet.

SquareTrade Experience??

I take great care of my tech toys...especially my Prime. But yesterday when I dropped my Transformer on the concrete, I realized anything can happen. It was in my neoprene carrying case with the keyboard attached, and it fell onto one of it's corners nice and solid. I knew for sure something happened, was hoping for just a minor dented corner, but I knew from all the stories here that the screen would be cracked. After 10 mins of growing enough balls to do it, I unzipped the case and checked it out. It is %100 fine...physically and internally!
So I'm going with SquareTrade. I'm rooted and unlocked, and flash custom ROMS/ kernels also, so as far as Asus is concerned I'm an outcast.
Has anyone had any experience with SquareTrade?
I know they're highly recommended and reliable, but I've never heard of anyone actually using it.
Will they just pay me for it because they can't find any Primes or parts for it?
Do they just send it to Asus anyway?
I would hope they cover bricks, but I'm not sure.
Do you have 30 days or 90 days to purchase? I've heard both.
Thanks guys...

While it's still under warranty, you send it to Asus and ST reimburses you for the repair up to the value of your policy.
I would hope they cover bricks, but I'm not sure.

Voiding your warranty by unlocking it is a grey area. The language in their policy specifically excludes user induced damage related to non-standard h/w and s/w. I don't know if any one here has tested it yet by trying to get reimbursed for a "brick."
Do you have 30 days or 90 days to purchase? I've heard both.

I think it's 30 over the web but I've heard of agents doing it outside 30 days over the phone.

Very interesting...thanks. So I have to come out of pocket to Asus, then eventually get reimbursed by SquareTrade? That sucks. I've heard of Prime repairs costing almost as much as a new one.
And by it going to Asus, it would be more likely that it would be detected as a brick with modified software etc...definite grey area. I'm actually considering just getting rid of it while it's still in perfect working condition and holding off for the Infinity. It just seems like even if not by me, somethings gonna give. Screen muras, the mysterious cracked glass from the dock, etc.
Got some thinking to do.
Before I unlocked and got square trade I called them and specifically asked about SOFTWARE unlocking, and say I accidentally dropped it. They said they will cover it, they just stressed to me I can't be opening it physically.
I just purchased the Square Trade warranty for my Transformer Prime yesterday.
I'm usually not interested in an extended warranty from Best Buy or other retailers. I figure they've done the analysis, and if they paid out more then they took in, they certainly wouldn't be pushing extended warranties.
However, if my Prime were to get damaged, I think I'd want to replace it, and at $500 or so, I really would NOT want to have to come out of pocket again.
Also, the reviews on Square Trade are excellent! Very good user experiences when needing to have a device repaired, or, if it's no longer repairable or replaceable, Square Trade seems to refund your purchase price in full!
FYI: I called Square Trade before buying the extended warranty, and asked the salesperson for a discount code. She offered me 10% code, I told her I've seen numerous codes that provided 30% off... she ended up giving me a code that was good for 20% off.
I am currently in the process of having mine repaired through them. I set up a claim online, they sent me a box, it is going to a repair facility in Pennsylvania, they never asked me to send it t o ASUS. They should recieve it today, then they will assess the condition of the unit.
Just had a DroidX repaired by Square Trade. They gave me a pre-paid shipping label (two days) repaired the unit, and had it back in my hands exactly one week later. (I shipped on a Monday, received it back on a Monday.)
I am very impressed...and glad I have a SquareTrade warranty on my Prime.

That is fantastic to hear, having just dropped a few bucks on a Square Trade warranty!
Thanks for the info!
FWIW, I've had SquareTrade repair my step-kid's S-OFF'd & rooted Aria multiple times and they have never given me grief because it was unlocked. Although they did return it once after fixing a broken screen with a screenshot showing the Superuser app installed and circled in red. Not sure what they were trying to say there, but it was repaired nonetheless.

I bought a sqauretrade warranty a few weeks ago, I insured my tfp for $700 for the tablet and the dock, but since I didn't buy a bundle they only insure the tablet for $535, they offered me a 30 dollar keyboard dock warranty but I doubt my dock will break before my tablet so I will cut my loses when I upgrade.
Anyone want to give me some insurance fraud tips for when I plan to upgrade so they don't replace it with another TFP? I was thinking about throwing it in the pool and making sure it hit the deck first so they can't fix it lol.

Go do some work on your roof with music playing on tablet. Then accidently slip it off with the hammer and all the other tools following it. That should do it.

Can you please keep me posted on what happens? I'm going to get a policy this weekend, but I'd still like to know what to expect should something happen. Also can I ask what was in need of repair? Thanks

I'm buying a policy tomorrow, because I dropped my Prime TWICE in 5 days! I've never done that to any electronics I've ever had, and most likely once I get a policy I will never drop it again
But it was docked and closed and in a neoprene carrying case, and by some miracle, nothing happened.
Thanks again for the info

[Q] Warranty claim through Amazon

Has anyone got any experience with claiming warranty through Amazon? I bought my S3 a few months ago and now there is an issue with the screen showing a pink splodge to the right
I assumed it would go through Samsung for replacement, but I asked Amazon first and they have already have a new one on the way to me! I tried to get out of them whether I would need to include the charger, cable and earbuds in the return, but they were a bit sketchy about that. Obviously they said they wanted the phone back, even if it wasn't in the original packaging, but they didn't really give an answer either way about the other bits. I can't find the earbuds that came with the phone, so I hope it won't cause them to charge me when they process the return
I remember having a kindle replaced once and they said outright to keep the charger and cable and just return the device.
Anyone have any experience with getting a warranty replacement from them with a mobile?
Thanks :good:
I wouldn't worry about earbuds, due to hygiene regulations they can be of no use to them whatsoever!
I haven't had a warranty replacement from Amazon. I have a question though. Did you have to pay extra for the warranty?

No, I just went on their support thingy and described my problem with the screen and that I have had it a few months and asked who I need to contact to get it repaired. They said they will replace it and sent me a new one within a few minutes (should get it on Tuesday) and issued me with a courier pick up for the old one. I was surprised as I thought Samsung would do it, but I was checking with them first anyway. It could be due to the fact I used a mastercard to pay for it and that gives you extra warranty and protection with things like this.
My HTC One S (early fall-to-bits black version) from Amazon UK was exchanged after a few weeks in a similar way... complete and new one arrived.
One good reason to use them.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with Amazon before, they always give good service. I was glad when they said they would handle my problem rather than Samsung!
Did you have to return all the accessories with your phone?
Had to return my Galaxy S because i got caught in heavy rain and wouldn't work and forgot to send earphones and USB cable but they never even asked and gave me a full refund within a day of them getting it.

I did anyway. The new replacement was an all new sealed box.
Yeah, I think this a new sealed boxed one too. I'll send it all back as it came sans the earbuds as they would just chuck 'em anyway.

Knox question I have not seen asked

I have seen tons of Knox related content, but I do have a question that I have not seen asked before. We know that tripping the knox flag will void your warranty and you will take a boat load of crap if you try to have it serviced, but what about when the year is up and you try to give it back to Sprint to get a new phone on the One Up plan? Will they still take it back with that flag tripped? Thanks.

I don't think it will be an issue when you are at the store as all they are really looking at is does the phone work. Most reps would have no clue how to even get in to download mode to check it anyway. I plan on doing the one up again when the Note 4 comes out next year and am worried that where ever the phones go after they leave the store will catch it. What happens then? Will they come back and say that I owe the balance on the N3? Guess we will have to wait and see.
The last three phones I have sold back to Sprint have been rooted and they never said anything. This is different though, so it does worry me. I don't mind not having a Samsung warranty, but not being able to trade it in in a year is quite offputting and defeats the One Up program. Hopefully, someone can provide some definitive information...i'd rather not ask at the Sprint store. lol

My local store knows I had my Note 2 rooted. I even helped 2 of the employees root theirs lol. When I went in to do the one up one did ask me if I put it back to stock which I had. He did not check. Just made sure no physical damage and that it turned on. I have a feeling we will not know exactly how this will be handled untill a year from now. Because of this I am still debating on rooting or not.
Unless it has changed, check the link in my signature. Sprint allows rooting, you just have ignorant people that don't even knows the policies of the company they work for.

I get that they don't care about rooting, but no Sprint phone has ever had a situation like this. This explicitly voids the warranty on the phone and there is no way for sprint to resolve that by simply putting stock firmware/rom back on the phone. I am just curious how this will be handled when returning the phone on the One Up program. If one is not on this program, it wont matter because they will have it for 20-24 months, unless they buy a new one out of pocket. Presumably, the warranty would be expired on the phone anyway. I don't think there's any point in calling a Sprint store and asking this question now because I'm am all but certain that they will not know how to answer it accurately.
Generally after a year there is no warranty anyway. So how could they deny you over a voided warranty when you can only us one up once a year? Just wait an extra day after the year.

Most of the store employees don't even know how to check this kind of stuff. When I exchanged my htc one for the Note 3 they didn't even open the box and check the phone. If you have the TEP and have a hardware issue just take it in and get an exchange. If you expect Sprint employees to know how to get into Download/ODIN mode, your giving a little to much credit lol.

I have seen quite a few people say that in regards to Sprint store employees, but again, this is a special case. I would guess that they will be taught how to check it. Why even put that flag in there if it means nothing? I saw a thread here the other day where someone had to take a Note 3 back, for whatever reason, and they checked it. One would hope that they would remain clueless, but I don't think that is going to be the case. I am on the verge of rooting anyway, just trying to consider everything before I do.

On the One Up plan, you aren't buying the phone, but simply leasing it. Unless you decide to keep the phone for the whole 24 months, then you own it. So there's the problem if they won't take it back due to Knox flag being tripped. You are then stuck with it for the full 24 months and it defeats the purpose of paying extra for the One Up plan.
I have never purchased a used phone from Sprint. Do you get any kind of warranty with a used phone? If so, is it in any way a manufacturers warranty or simply a Sprint warranty? I guess if it's only Sprint, they would have to decide to warrant a phone that the manufacturer wont warrant.
I don't mean to belabor the point, but it seems as though I am the only one with this concern.

I am personally not worried about it, like I said 99% of the store employees are clueless anyways and half the time don't even boot the damn phone. I understand where you are coming from but I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Besides does it say anything in the One Up contract about rooting a device? No.
