Replacement battery? - Shield Tablet Accessories

I've seen reference to a couple different batteries that should fit/work, for those looking to replace the battery for one reason or another and figured I'd consolidate things here...
http://planetfon.ru/akkumuljator-li-pol---3-7v--5000mah_l238
http://www.allbatteries.co.uk/tablet-battery-3-8v-5100mah-tml90080.html
The challenge being for some that neither of those will ship to the US (no one will internationally probably, because of our lipo shipping restrictions).
Anyone found a supplier in the states with something similar?

My main worry would be: how do we know that the replacement battery we buy from some obscure online store is any safer than the original faulty battery?

You don't. But since my old tablet's battery got bloated, I'd rather take my chances with a dubious china battery...
BTW: Anyone knows a compatible battery obtainable in Germany?
@ slideyneez: Where did you get the link to the battery from allbatteries.co.uk from?

I found a battery that someone posted that should work and is found through AliExpress so they ship worldwide

Allbatteries looked to have the same thing (and even the same website design, maybe they are related), and was in a more convenient language so I cited that one.

Ain't that battery got a bit too low voltage? The original battery is a 3.9v, but the one he shows is a 3.7v

0.2V isn't a significant difference for a whole battery pack - tolerances can easily lead to the same difference (+ or -).
FYI, the official replacement B01 battery is rated at 3.8V.

That is not how these batteries work all lipo are 3.7v unless they have multiple cells in series then the voltage goes up in increments of 3.7
Also it should be known that a fully charged lipo will read 4.2v and a discharged will read 3-3.3v
The fire hazard with these is likely 2-fold 1 the charge and protection circuit has a flaw that allows the battery beyond a threshold either voltage or temp paired with a bad cell this had a bad habit of catastrophic failures. This is likely why nvidia opted to brick tablets rather than open them and swap the batteries and resell them as refurbished.
Btw that is what I would have done everyone got a k1 style tablet where the package had nothing but the new tablet inside was a return label and the procedure would have been factory reset tablet then package just the tablet no stylus no accessories. As the tablet you would get would be in a similar state... except the stylus slot might have a rubber plug...

Alright.
But has anyone tried a third party battery by now without any issues? For example the aliexpress one? Cause my old shield tablet is still off and awaiting a new battery and a kernel change because the tablet initially awaits the kernel killer to kill off the old one.

Well that depends what you call issues there are several in this thread that reported that the battery did not last as long that is not really what I would call an issue as the original battery was 5200mAh they put a 4250 in or even a 4000 that should last less it is an expected result...
But that said my previous post was a warning against this as the faulty bits might be part of the charging and protection circuit on the battery. Particularly the control chip that runs the sensors and the charging regulator.

Anyone do this yet I bought a LTE model and the battery is seriously eroded.

In theory you could replace the pack with a bank of 14500 cells. As long as it was a 1s?p arrangement it means 1 series any number in parallel series is voltage and parallel would be capacity and amperage.
The procedure given to replace the battery packs in these tablets involves removing the charging/protection from the original pack and soldering the new pack to the old batteries solder points. So any bare lithium ion pack that is 1s?p configuration should work if it fits. 3.5mm 64 mm 150 mm is the 3 measurements for the OEM pack

Are does anyone have some good informations about how cellphone battery's work?
Is it also possible to connect 2 cellphone battery's to on top off eachother and make a parallel connection?
Probably possible, but why would you want to?
Longer battery life i can customize the backcover also.

Everything just points to carrying a spare - that way you don't cannibalise anything, and you can either choose to stickytape it to the back of the phone for that extra-bulky feeling you're after, or put it in a bag/other pocket when you're wearing them tight jeans...
Or you could just get one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.ph/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200585546604
$17.50 shipped gets you the battery, new cover, and a screen protector. Took about 2 weeks to get here from Singapore, but I love it.
There's tutorial about making such battery. Simply, connect two batteries in parallel: + on +, - on -, and don't connect middle terminals, these are for battery temperature. Stick batteries together and you're done!

Very true.. but the cell is alot fatter..
Wiring up 2 batteries to the same battery cache is problematic..
If i'm correct the x10 reads the amount of mA passed to the phone and uses the "rated amperage as a baseline"
Meaning that your modded battery might never make the bar..
Also battery burns hurt.. ask those poor bastards with psp 1000's that had to cut open the cell casing to hack their psp.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Okz lol i don't have that much knowledge about battery's but thanx 4 the straight answer.
How much more battery life do you think you could get out of your x10 with your extended battery?
Well most extended batteries they try to double the capacity.
But connecting 2 batteries in parallel will work.. but can go wrong very fast.
if one of the 2 builds up a memory it may lead to severe heat and maybe even the dreaded gas purge "the battery start to leak a gas" followed by a loud pain inducing bang.
Go safe.. buy the battery.
I just don't like the look of the build quality of the last link, but it should give you alot more life.

No - don't connect them because it would double the REPORTED temperature. That means, if batteries are 27°C warm, OS would see it as 54°C.
wait a minute if a remember rightly the type of bettery used in this is a bizarre, from what i read they cant trickle charge. thats why they go from 100 to 91% and then back up if theyre left plugged in

all I can confirm is that the battery from the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G also works in the Thunderbolt(and vice-versa), just not the back covers.
also, once we know if the Rezound/Thunderbolt batteries are compatible, the back covers obviously will not be. so if you're planning on putting one of those extended batteries in the Rezound you'll be out of luck.
The Thunderbolt battery works in the Rezound, at least mine did.

I just switched them between my Rezound and my wife's Thunderbolt. They both worked in the opposite phone. However, on the Rezound, the battery icon showed an exclamation point, like something was wrong. Phone still works though. *shrug* Back covers fit on both too.
After getting mine on Thursday I did notice the Rezound battery will fit a Thunderbolt and vise versa but in looking at the voltages the Rezound battery is a 3.8v and the Thunderbolt is a 3.7v so I would mess around with it. The voltages don't match up. But they do fit perfectly.
I ended up buying one at the VZ store. It's working but for some reason my battery is not reporting the correct level. I can't figure out why. I have cleared cache, dalvik, and battery stats (at 100%.) I even wiped and reloaded my rom. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
The voltage is different I believe the capacity of the battery is read by the voltage, so if the voltage is already lower it will read a lower charge.

Thunderbolt: 3.7VDC - 1400mAh - 5.18Whr
ReZound: 3.7VDC - 1620mAh - 5.99Whr
basically, the Thunderbolt battery should work just fine... although since the 'wattage hours' on the Thunderbolt battery is lower(not to mention the 'milliamp hours'), the Thunderbolt battery isn't going to last anywhere near as long as the ReZound battery.
It's working great now. Thanks guys.

Battery voltage is not a constant. A single cell lithium ion battery is rated at 3.7 volts. The 3.8 volts on your pack is probably a miss-label. At full charge, a single cell lithium ion battery will be around 4.2 volts. It will go down from there to a pre-determined low cutoff to protect the cell. If you can find a widget or app that shows battery voltage, you will see what I mean. I've never run my phone down to see what level it shuts off at but I suspect it to be somewhere around 3200 - 3000 mV. As someone who races RC Cars with lithium ion batteries, I can tell you that we usually use 3 volts for a low cutoff to prevent damage to the cells.

Inaccurate % was due the different voltage in batteries. All of ankers batteries out there for our phone are 3.7V and we use a 3.8V. There used to be a very extensive report on anker and another company somewhere in our forums but I can't find it.
Just to be clear there's nothing wrong with using a undervolted battery as long as you aren't undervolting trough setCPU or any other similar program. It will have a negative effect on batter life and phone preformance.

O.K. so I shouldn't be charging it in the phone at all? or just not to 100%? because it seems whenever I do charge it to 100% as soon as I take it off it drops to 96% almost instantly... but I usually get 12-14hrs of med-heavy usage... and usually at least 6hrs of extreme usage... so I think it does have capacity... wish I had done a little more research before buying though, would have bought a 3.8V battery...

I know this thread is old. But in case anyone still interested, you can find it by looking at your physical battery(if you have a removal battery of course)
Look for Wh and V printed on the battery.
mAh = Wh × 1000 / V
Example:
Samsung Galaxy S3: 3.8 V 7.98 Wh
7.98Wh × 1000 / 3.8V = 2100mAh
I think he meant how much Mah or capacity is actually left on the battery. You can do this in Linux, but not sure about Windows or Android. For example my laptop battery is rated at 4400mah, but the Lubuntu tool tells me max capacity is only 2920mah now.
Well, I think what he needs is to test the battery capacity, as we know lot of 3rd party battery claim higher capacity than it does.
The way to do this correctly by measuring the battery using mAH meter.
But if you want to do it by software, I think you can use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.NanoDinamics.NovaTester
But, I'm not sure either this will give you an accurate result.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.NanoDinamics.NovaTester
But, I'm not sure either this will give you an accurate result.

Gonna check it, but as my battery is about 3 years and some months old (Galaxy S2), I won't have any way to know if the result is OK.
Thanks for sharing the app!!
Well, after running the full test, it showed that my battery's real capacity is a hilarious amount of 750mAh, not even one Ampere per hour. I estimate about 1800 charging cycles

Okay i will
now im using an 1 year old mugen extended battery (3200mah), i will put this batt tot the test too
overall im still happy with the S2, its far from ready to sent to retirement just yet lol
okay the test is started
Here it is and im very suprised, +- 400mAh loss in a period of 3 years
here is the result of the test of the Mugen 3200mAh battery.
(bought it used a year ago, so i dont know how long it was used before i bought it).
And i did my research, this battery has been tested (new) and give arround +- 2400mAh in real-time even though Mugen claiming its 3200mAh
overall +- 250mAh loss, im very pleased with the performance
btw for informative purposes the screen was at full brightness in both tests

Which do you prefer guys? any pros and cons.
ide go for the hyperion, its pretty much the same as genuine batteries if not then better
ive seen reviews that hyperion is one of the best and affordable also...
hope i helped
I've read that often removing the battery and placing another one will make the battery "pins" in the phone loose and will result.... don't remember exactly but negative effects on the battery
is that true?

well im not to sure about your question but ive heard that if you keep on charging the battery without fully draining it first gives you less battery life over time for the phone.
hope i am of help in some way

As far I know, it's quite the opposite. Li-ion batteries do not have "memory effect". In fact, letting the battery fully discharge wastes a life cycle. However, it is advisable after 20/30 charges, to perform fully discharge/charge to re-calibrate the measurements. Some says that if battery stays between 40% and 60% of charge is the ideal (due to factors such as temperature, etc.).
I don't know if to keep changing batteries may affect the pins. But as long you keep using the batteries regularly its fine. Just don't let your batteries unused for a long time.
Thanks both, but if you were to buy one which would you choose?

I don't trust 3rd party battery manufacturers anymore. I bought a couple Hyperion batteries with my Note. The batteries were supposed to be 2600 mah but it turns out they were really 1500. I have also had this same problem with another manufacturer that everyone said was good. I don't trust them anymore. I bought a genuine Samsung battery. One other thing to note, if you want to use NFC, you will need the Samsung battery.

I don't really use NFC that much, I only know a few people that have s3.
so that problem of the hyperion was the 2600 mAh turns out to be 1500 mAh? how did you know exactly? also did the battery(hyperion) did negative effects on your note?

I found out because several people on various boards pulled the original label on the battery and saw the real mah size. This seems to be a problem with a lot of 3rd party batteries. You really do get what you pay for. The battery did work but did not last anywhere as long as the original. I also do not believe the batteries harmed my phone in any way.
Well you got 2 pcs of that hyperion batt right? so that makes equals to 1 good battery lol
I've also gave up hope on 3rd party batteries after a lot of testing and analysing with a real battery analyzer. For example, the genuine cell in a SGN specified to 1750mAh measured 1690mAh which is well within margins. The same for genuine Nokia cells. A well known 3rd party battery manufacturer has this "super mega xl" cell specified to x000mAh but turned out just at x300mAh which is really bad. The internal resistance also appears to be worse on most 3rd party cells.
