New OTA Update - AT&T HTC One (M9)

Looks like there is a new AT&T OTA update that just came out. Downloading it now. 55.5 MB in size.

Software version is now 2.6.502.18 not sure what update includes until we get a change log.

Looks like it might be the Stagefright fix if this web site is correct.

It addresses most of the Stagefright vulnerability, except for CVE-2015-3864.

Rooted Users?
Sorry to ask such a noobish question...I've been kind of out of the game for a while...
What should rooted users with TWRP installed do to protect themselves against Stagefright ? Do you think that some kind soul will develop a flashable zip of the update, or should we reinstall the factory recovery? If the latter, is unrooting necessary to take an OTA using the carrier 5.1 rom?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Tbolt Update question

I had a quick question about the new Tbolt update. I rooted my tBolt shortly after the last OTA update was pushed. This is the first update to come through since rooting and I was wondering what I needed to do to install the update. When I was looking into rooting I believe I had read that many times the formal updates are often leaked before hand anyways. Do I need to find a root version of the update somewhere (if so where would that be at?) or do I have to un-root to install it, or can I simply install it while rooted (I'm assuming this will encounter some errors). Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else already. I did look around and did not see anything answering this question. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks
If u download the update u WILL LOOSE ROOT.. give the dev time to root the update

How to get rid of OTA update without installing it?

A bit of a nooby question, but I've never come across it or had to do it before.
I know I could flash a custom ROM but nothing quite stands out just yet, waiting for S3 USA release. There should be a lot more action on the ROM side then.
But at the moment I'm on stock, rooted and woke up with an update on my phone yesterday. From what I've read there's 2 updates 1 after the other and 1's a new kernel. I'd rather not update and root again if there's a simple way of removing the update e.g. like say delete a file from somewhere. After all my phone's running 100% as is.
Anyone know the answer? Its bugging me now, you can only perspone it for 3 hours at a time.
If I don't get rid of it by tomorrow I'm going to reaserch if i can just update over a rooted stock ROM. Find out about the new kernel build make sure I can root after updating and reluctantly update.
Thanks in advance
Marc

Hi mate
I have the same problem and can't get rid of the OTA update available message, if you find a solution then please post.
Many thanks!!
download the 'update' from sammobile.com it's the LF2 rom, install with mobile odin and tell it to keep root.... problem solved
I just used titanium backup to delete the updater. Seems to be working fine for now.

pretty interesting ... so next will be: 2.19.605.2 710RD ... which is of course newer than our previous 2.17.605.2, but it doesn't give much hope for the expected JB release (3.16.605.1)
main changes (as per changelog dec-2013): ISIS support, Software Update and Software Repair Tools are now compatible (?? whatever that means!!), reduced power cycling, improved bluetooth clarity and ... security patches added
that's about it. will be interesting if ANY new custom roms are going to be based on the new release (a new Viper? ) ... but i suppose we still won't get any newer kernel, any JB love and/or updated Sense(4.5) ... as nothing of that is listed in the update announcement
EDIT: checked http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/system_update/droidincredible4glte.html for "benefits" (which is already updated to 2.19.605.2) and "instructions" for a hint on the size of the (this time for _real_ new OTA 2013/2014!) ... but as instructions are still based on our prev 2.17.605.2 update with its 155mb size, there isn't _any_ info yet on the size of the upcoming OTA. ........... and it seems that it was just less than 24hrs ago, when the news about the 2.19.605.2 update started to make its round in the net (and on the verizon page).
I run Viper rom and it keeps downloading and trying to install. Is there anyway to stop OTA from happening?
The viper OTA (about the faked illegal rom) has nothing to do with this
This info above is finally some news about an official OTA from Verizon! (albeit not the bigger JB update we are all still waiting for, but rather only a smaller Bugfix for our current ICS)
update size
according to my phone, the update is only 43.8MB.
I have now lost faith in seeing any real updates for this phone. I am ready to root and try a new ROM. What I'd like to know is if this update will break any of the methods for rooting this phone.
I know this phone isn't much, but for HTC to totally forget it like they have is rotten. I guess I'll have to follow the bandwagon to Samsung or Motorola.

it's HIGHLY LIKELY that ANY previous rooting method will not be working any more AFTER you agree to the new OTA.
@DanPFW: as for HTC, they had prepared a JB update and send it to Verizon ... it's just that Verizon didn't approve it (for some unknown to us reason!!!) ... even the release-number is known, just the actual ROM has not surfaced (yet?!) to the community.
as for rooting and a new custom-ROM ... it's a great and fun device and fairly easy to root & unlock. just that the fully working custom-roms _with_ HTC Sense are ALL only ICS4.0.4 with Sense4.1. Overclocking is easy and stable and a sweet kernel (from user: jose) is available. the newer JB-based custom-roms with Sense5 or Sense4.5 are all ported from different devices and are only partially working, as camera and bluetooth are _completely broken_ due to non-existing (Sense-kernel) drivers for JB. most ppl here are running either ViperLTE2.2.0 (best ICS with Sense4.1 imho) or some AOSP-based custom roms like CM, PacMan, Avatar etc, which are upto at least JB4.3.1 available and nicely working)
EDIT: I hope someone can capture this new OTA for 2.19.605.2 and provide the file here on xda ... for further "analysis"

thanks for the upload ... i just checked its content, but as it's mainly patchfiles (which i dun know how to apply manually to see what's changed) i can only confirm a couple of things for now:
* according to the updater script, it's still ICS4.0.4 ... but now "fireball:4.0.4/IMM76D/278117.2" (prev was: "fireball:4.0.4/IMM76D/111397.2")
* the actual patch-content size is only 15MB!
* whole new firmware package (32MB) ... incl a slightly newer radio: 1.53.06.1009 (was: 1.53.06.0919)
waiting for some more details about the actual OTA changes from others for now :fingers-crossed:

yeah and additionally one needs the (previous) 2.17.605.2 installed ... and unmodified stock-rom to apply the patches (or is there a "offline" way, like on linux or so to apply them safely w/o needing to run it on a Dinc4G). but plz correct me if i'm wrong ^^
we just shouldn't execute/load the whole firmware.zip at once as it is (right now) ... as it might re-lock the bootloader and/or in the worst case even bricks _currently_ rooted/unlocked Dinc4Gs ... that's why I said, let's wait for "the specialists" to decompose the OTA and tell the "common ppl" what can be safely applied and what better shouldn't

I'm not that stupid. I run the Viper run and keep getting the download for the Verzion OTA. I thought the Viper rom was suppose to stop Vertizon OTA's, but I guess it hasn't. I just deferred it for now. Wait to see what happens with it, and if its worth while.

I'm pretty certain it will mess up the ROM if you run the OTA. Viper 2.2 lets you turn off the check/reminder.

you probably wont be able to install it anyway. im pretty sure it needs a stock recovery to install it. if youre running viper youre more than likely running custom recovery.
Correct... I didn't think ota updates would actually install on phones running custom rom / recoveries
to get rid of the notifications... does the old trick of changing your build.prop work? i can just use this...

also looks like viper rom has a section in build.prop...
"ro.config.venum.enableCOTA=1"... if i change that to zero i wonder if it will stop the viper illegal rom nag (that thread got closed) (and yes i'm still on viper 211 so i don't have the option in settings to disable ota updates).

I decided to just take this as an opportunity to finally upgrade to Viper 2.2.0. I wasn't looking forward to the full ROM install and the PITA that goes with it. Hooray for Nandroid backups and TiB!
If anyone else it thinking of doing the same, make sure you're using TWRP recovery. (Full Nandroid and full TiB backup first before doing anything!). The Aroma installer appeared to work when installing with a CWM-based recovery, but the phone hung up good upon reboot. I looked at the nice white HTC screen for quite a while

[Q] Unable to install OTA ZV6 on Sprint G3

I read that some are unable to root ZV6. I can't even install it...
My Device: Sprint LG G3 LS990
Root: One click stump root.
ROM: Stock everything else (ROM, Kernel).
Tweaks: Very slight modifications to the phone (increased volume, changed boot animation and added some dual screen apps).
I am having a problem INSTALLING the OTA update. My phone keeps downloading it but after I select install and it reboots (after looking like it installed) I am still at the ZV4 version ( KVT49L . LS990ZV4 ) , not the new ZV6...
Any tips? Is the rooting of the phone the problem?
NOTE: I only rooted to be able to make a few tweaks...
Thanks!
If you want ZV6, then you need to look...

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Interesting response...
Why would I need ZV6?
I already said that I am receiving the OTA. My problem is NOT needing the update but INSTEAD HOW DO I GET IT INSTALLED.
Please elaborate... Did you misunderstand my problem? TL;DR? Or did you mean to say that I will need to flash?
??
Thanks

In all those threads I linked above answers all of your questions.
There is no root for ZV6.
If you have root on ZV4 you can't take the update.
If you want to update to ZV6 and still have root, then you'll need to unlock your phone so you can flash a Rom linked above.
You're actually lucky the OTA didn't install. Quite a few people have soft-bricked their phones trying to install the OTA on a rooted, modified device. Either flash the stock ZV4 using LG's flashtool and take the OTA (which can't be rooted), or install TWRP and then the pre-rooted ZV6 linked to above.
In the future, never, ever, take an OTA when rooted.

Thanks.. How do I get rid of the persistent notification that can't be dismissed that wants me to reboot to install?
Is there any way to block the update from being downloaded? Are the ZV6 security fixes critical?
Thanks again...

In the 3rd link I posted. Read that post and the one below it.
It'll tell you how to remove it and how to disable the notifications.
ZV6 runs a lot better than ZV4 out of the box.

I wouldn't call ZV6 critical, but it does contain quite a few bug fixes and other minor improvements. The best way, IMHO, would be to install either the stock ZV6 ROM through TWRP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/development/rom-stock-zv6-base-odex-deodex-t2949087
Or flash BarRin, a debloated, slightly tweaked stock ZV6 ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/development/rom-barrin-odexed-deodexed-t2950747
Since these are both ZV6, the updater will see you on ZV6 and not prompt you to update.
Because you may have made built.promp mods

Just Received VS98523B over OTA (4/13/15)

Welp just received the OTA update for my phone after restoring to stock, non-root last night. Installing it as we speak.
Official link on Verizon's site has also been updated: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/lg-g3-update/.
Link to the PDF with the updates included with the version: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/benefits-lg-g3-4-13-15.pdf.
Hopefully this doesn't include any of the bugs reported in the other threads.... we'll see.
EDIT:
Now that I've updated, I see the version number is VS98523C, not 23B in the About page of the phone. Guess they didn't bother updating any of their documentation with the version change.

There will be no OTA to 23c from anything but 12b.
Dang
I'm on 12b, but rooted. I rooted at 10b, took all the OTAs to 12b, telling SuperSU to preserve root and it did.
Someone else was on 12b rooted and took the OTA (I have the OTA notification but I'm not installing it until I find out more info on it) and said it failed after rebootl. Probably due to rooting, but I don't know if they did any other modifications (busybox, tethering hack, etc). I only rooted. I've done no other system modifications to the phone, but I don't want to take the OTA to have it fail and mess things up.
I must preserve root for TiBu. Has anyone been able to take the OTA rooted at 12b and preserve it? Or, once getting to LP unrooted, have they been able to root it? I know there was a root method for the unofficial releases, but I do not know if they work for the official release (which is 12b).
I kdz'd to 23C and rooted it. i posted links in the kdz thread.

I'm looking specifically for the official version that I just got from ota. That's 23b from what has been reported, so I need to know if anyone has taken the official 23b ota rooted only, and was able to keep root.
Thanks for the info anyways.
It's not 23b, it's 23c. The docs on the Verizon site, they didn't bother to update them yet. Its even a slightly different 23c than the one leaked recently - different size radio.
Same bugs though. They released it anyway, knowing it won't sync without using up some cell data. Wonder why ?
