Two variants? Which one am I getting if I ordered from Hong Kong? - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

The amazon listing said
"Octa Core 1.8+1.3GHz, 2Gb RAM, 32Gb storage, 4G, LTE, BT, NFC, Camera, Android 4.4.4)"
SM-G850FHSEBTU
Which is the Exynos edition.
However, I just found out that it's shipping from Hong Kong.
Further complicated by the fact that Amazon marketplace has bundled several sellers under this same listing, possibly incorrectly?
China gets the Snapdragon variant, apparently, so now I'm worried that I have the slightly less good one.
Any idea if I could still be getting the Exynos variant?
Amazon will help get me a refund if it's not, but still... hassle...
The seller name is wowcamera, who seem to be nobodies (but have fair reviews).
thanks guys

Octa-core is the exynos version, the snapdragon is only quadcore
Tell the seller to send you a screenshot of CPU-Z application.
Here's an example of exynos version.

As long as the model number is not "A," then it should be the Exynos 8-core.

Note 8 128gb

Hi, any website with Note 8 128gb ? i don't find it anywhere ...
Thanks
I doubt it'll appear—it's a classic Samsung tune, with every model since Note 2 they've been promising a “Luxury” of whatever version of the same model, always with double the storage. They've never materialized…
Isn't it like a market exclusive? I know they have 128GB versions of the S8+ in Korea.

A 128GB Note 8 would be brilliant but I'm just happy we're getting 64GB as a base option even if Micro SD is included.
It may be because the 128gb and 256 GB versions in Korea might not have the expandable memory option. Idk

In my opinion the reason Samsung does this is the higher storage options also happen to be the "dual SIM" version. Same goes with the 128gb version of the HTC U11.
I believe they expect you to use both slots for SIM cards and therefor give you more storage space to make up for it.
I personally think this sucks. Yes, the SD is fine for "media" (photos, videos, books, documents etc) but the default "download" folder is internal, most apps place cache on internal, and Games, did I mention Games yet? I would Love to own a 256gb note AND have an SD card for media, but Samsung and HTC disagree with me and think 64gb for apps and games is more than enough.
This when Apple offers 32gb, 128gb, and 256gb Iphones (and the rumors for the soon to be released point to 64,256,512!!!)
Seriously, Android is always about compromises and the manufacturers lecturing us that they know best (region specific storage, RAM, colours, in LG's case DACs, etc) Yes, Android is about choice, just not our choices.

Yes I agree. I could care less about expandable memory if you give me 256gb or more of internal storage. Especially when like you said I have a limited amount of apps I can actually move to my sd card. But I feel like alot of U.S customers actually care about that which is why Samsung justifies keeping it in the U.S market and can get away with the 64gb version. Even though manufacturing wise it probably would have been easier for them to just crank out just a 128gb and 256gb internal storage version

Just because you are not willing to, doesn't mean others are not!
I would gladly pay a premium for a higher capacity phone. If you are not, purchase the base model, we both win!

True, but this model is imported from Hong Kong and not officially released in the Australian market.
Do you have any indication if the 128gb will be released in Hong Kong in a dual-SIM variant?
Currently I have a 64gb dual-SIM Exynos version on pre-order, but I'd gladly pay a Premium for a dual 128gb that's Exynos.

128GB or 256GB preorder?

Has anyone found a reliable seller for the S9+ in 128 or 256? Exynos or SD. I don't care.
Vodafone Romania- preordered 256 gb black variant. Check www.vodafone.ro and ask if they do international shipping!
I just ordered my S9+ 256gb black (dual sim) from axiom telecom in UAE. I did order my S8+ from them last year without problem. They ask for a scan of your id and a scan of your credit card. Shipped to France without problem (though Aramex shipping company was not very speedy at delivering). Shipping from UAE is said to happen on March 15 ... and should take 10 days to reach me.
I ended up going with the 128GB UK version from https://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s9-plus .
Cost me $1,023 but it's way better than a Snapdragon with 64GB for $840. and the price includes 3 day international shipping. Considering they are expecting their 1st shipment on the 8th, I may see mine before release day.

Pardon my ignorance, but are these alternate sources the same as the unlocked phone offered through Samsung's website?
I have never bought a new phone from any seller but one of the big 4 carriers and am just now starting to realize how much better life might be buying this S9+ from someone other than Verizon without all the crapware and the Qualcomm chip. I am aware of the VOLTE concerns, etc. If the standard features work with VZW from some of these overseas sellers I am golden.
The reason I'm even pursuing a source other than Samsung.com is because they don't appear to offer anything but the 64 GB model
you need to get a U3 listed sd card or it wont record 4k video to the card. U1 is too slow

The S9 and S9+ listed in that ebay sellers shop are the Chinese variants. Which basically means that they have the snapdragon processor, higher storage, and have a better chance of being rooted than any of the U.S. versions.
If you're new to buying outside carriers, it is good to know the benefits of each processor. Snapdragon has support for all U.S. carriers, if unlocked. It also has a stronger gpu so gaming, emulators in particular, will run better. It does not root very well.
The Exynos version tends to have better battery life, and a stronger cpu. It also gets root along with custom roms. It does not, however, work with Sprint or Verizon. They use CDMA radios that the Exynos models just do not have. Also, they apparently lack 1 of T-Mobile's radio bands, but should still mostly work.
You can go HERE to learn more about each individual model.

Are you sure?
The S9+ Chinese market device SM-G9650 and SM-G9658 don't list LTE Band 13 to work with Verizon.
That site also shows UK devices with Band 13 which I don't think is correct?
SM-G965FZKDXEU
SM-G965FZVDXEU
Both showing with LTE Bands: B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B13(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B25(1900), B26(800), B28(700), B32(1500), B66(AWS- 3)
That seems to directly contradict what Clove has on their website:
https://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s9-plus
I would take that Tech Walls link with a grain of salt because it seems to contradict what I'm seeing in many other places.

not warranty in the US whereas the S9/S9+ coming with exynos ( SM-G960F/SM-G965F-DS) instead of snapdragon 845
The SM-G9600 and SM-G9650 have snapdragon 845, but I don´t know if these comes with CDMA ratio, but it´s very probably that they doesn´t come with US warranty ( also the 128GB and 256GB at this time has not been offered in the official Samsung store yet)

Importing an SD845 version to the UK vs Exynos

Returning my Exynos version off the back of disappointing battery life I've experienced, real shame as I love the phone but can't handle having to nurse it through a day.
Has anyone tried importing an American version of the S9+? Looks like it's possible to get one for under £700 on Amazon.
Not too fussed about the locked bootloader but was wondering if anyone has any real world experience of both the exynos and SD variants and their relative battery performance/ any other quirks (I.e. wouldn't be eligible under warranty)?
Hard to tell from the forums as everyone's usage differs but generally speaking the SD seems to have a significant advantage. (Have also closely followed anandtechs work but more interested in people's real-world performance)
I have the Latin America/Hong Kong Dual SIM Snapdragon 845 version (SM-G9650/DS) and the battery life is not that good but is enough for me.
I've returned my UK exynos to very due to battery life and call dropouts. Liked the phone tho.
Just purchased a 256gb g9650 on eBay from France for £690 which seemed like a good deal. Hopefully it will be better.

re
isnt the sd better in battery life ? i thought it was from what i been reading. I also thought that it came with an unlocked bootloader
I have both (exynos on Three uk and SD on USA T Mobile). I would say that the SD marginally had better battery life but since three rolled out an update last week the battery life between the two has been more or less the same. This makes me think the exynos just has a badly tuned cpu governer and software updates will even out the gap...
Also I would recommend against the SD models in the UK unless you can unlock the bootloader and root etc or you will be stuck with a firmware and CSC that won't support carrier aggregation LTE, WiFi & calling. Had this issue with a Hong Kong imported S8 Plus last year and changing CSC was buggy as hell...

Chinese or International

I've just ordered the 256Gb Reno 10X from Amazon Spain which they are shipping internationally to me. The website does not make it clear, and they do not seem to be sure, whether the one they have is the Chinese or International variant. Will it be obvious when I get it which it is - the model number on the box or anything else? How can I tell?
Amazon Spain will ship the international version usually, of course you will see what version is inside the box once you got it.
Chinese version is PCCMOO, international should be something with CHP1919 or something like this...

Where to buy from? UK

So here's the thing I want the pro version of this phone... But I have no idea where to buy from.
There's so much conflicting reports about global versions... And local versions...
Firstly I feel the posted price for the European phone is insane... A massive markup from the Indian and Chinese version. But truth be told I've yet to actually find a reputable EU /UK based seller...
So far I've only found the dodgy shops that import from China. So I have no idea if I'm really getting a 9t pro with b20 and widevine/windvine? Support and a locked bootloader... Yes I bank on my phone... Or a hacked global rom k20 that doesn't have these things.
I've also heard that the Indian k20 pro does have all this support but there's no hard facts in it...
I live out in the country so I can't live without b20. And I bank on it so I can't use a hacked rom.
So where am I meant to buy this phone from at a reasonable price?
Amazon Spain or Germany
Have a look at this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/9t-pro-8-256-varient-t3964710
It looks like there are some sellers now selling the official global version, as opposed to the European version. The global version comes with the 2 higher 8GB RAM variants that are missing from Europe. They also seem better priced than the European phones.
It might be worth waiting a while to see the feedback from people buying from the sites mentioned. The OP in that thread has a site that certainly looks like it's the genuine article that is listed.
As for the Indian model, it is physically missing the NFC hardware, so probably won't be a viable option for you

The store in first post in that thread appears to be selling a legitimate global Mi 9T Pro. It claims it has B20 and comes with official global MIUI factory installed. They say it is sent factory sealed, they haven't opened it to install anything. If you go to the global MIUI site you'll see the Mi 9T Pro advertised with up to 8/256GB, so that is a genuine option of the global Mi 9T Pro. I've not followed the thread fully since, so some of the later stores mentioned could well be selling K20 Pros.
yeah and there specs say it also has a microsd slot... which its very well known it doesnt... I wouldnt trust that specs list at all... so no its a rebadged k20 and no the official mi site doesnt list a mi 9tpro with 8gb and 256 flash... only the k20s do...

That eGlobal listing has changed slightly since I first looked. They've removed the text I saw that explicitly stated it had band 20, now it only lists it in the specs, though there they only list frequencies, not band numbers. So I'm more dubious than when I first saw it.
The Wanda mobile ad seems genuine too and they do seem to have a better reputation, but again I wouldn't want to be the first to try it. I'd wait until others have confirmed. Most of the big Ali sellers are OK, you just have to pay attention to what you're looking at. They may lists both names in the title, to make sure you hit the listing no matter what you search, but they are normally up front in the description as to what they are selling. You just need to remember the distinction between Global Version and Global ROM in the listings.
It's interesting that none of the Ali sellers are selling the 8/256GB global version of the Mi 9T Pro, it looks like they all have the EU versions, from what I can see from a quick search. So this does cast more doubt on what eGlobal and Wanda are actually selling.
Indeed this is why its been so confusing... Didnt help at all how Xiaomi fractured the distrobution and models... They really fooked this one up i think both in marketing and in handling and distribution.
I bought mine from ebay uk from a chinese seller it came sealed £370 128gb
Are you looking for 128gb, 8gb RAM model? There is some decent priced one on eBay UK for £350-400 which seem reasonable. Since buying it from Aliexpress is £310ish +£22 for delivery.

You're buying off some random seller on eBay! How on earth do you know it's not a rebadged k20 with no b20?

If you pay with PayPal and raise a case for fault advertising you'll be ok.
I'd message a seller to ask and confirm first and at least you've evidence
Before I bought mine I asked the guy to send me the IMEI number and checked it against the database everything checked out that database isn't wrong. Plus there's PayPal guarantee. Mine is what it says it is and I'm on B20 4g with 02.

They mention it in the description. All of the 10 seller I seen has mentioned it. If you bought it without knowing its your fault for not reading it.

Yes because sellers never lie do they... ive already seen tons of K20 pros with "global rom hacked flashes" being sold as Mi9t pros...
And to be honest paypals guarantee are never perfect... Ive had cases before when ive been missold things. And paypal sided with the seller. Even when I had unsumountable proof... Paypal could easily see it as "well you got a phone didnt you?"
Im sorry no random sellers on ebay particularly Chinese based ones are a safe bet.
But if there is a list of trusted sellers... or sellers who have been proven to send the correct phone... Why dont we make a list?
Sam why not list the sellers name here as well as the others who have found trust worthy sellers...?

A k20 pro with dodgy software would read as a mi9 t pro that is correct but it would definitely not have band 20 and a couple of other bands because in the china k20 models those bands are permanently locked and cant be unlocked through software. Plus the IMEI database would see the correct model as a k20 instead of a MI9t Pro. Just check the sellers reputation feedback etc and save a bit of money its not that big a deal not all chinese sellers are unscrupulous.

Oh i realise not all are bad... I regularly buy stuff from china... But when it comes to expensive things... I do my research. But ive already found a handful of sellers just between now and making my last post that are selling k20s advertised as mi9ts
Who did you get yours from?
I bought mine the 128gb variant from the bellow linked seller but that was the last 128gb version he had left now he's only got the 64gb one left.
