accessing bootloader - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hiya
I've desided to change my rom on my G925F and I have it rooted however I am unable to reboot into the bootloader I can't find any way to unlock it.
Any thoughts, hints, ideas that would help me in my quest to rid my phone of bloatware would be greatly appreciated

You won't need to unlock your bootloader if you have a 925F - do you mean you can't boot into recovery mode? What exactly are you trying yo achieve? Do you want to flash another firnware, or just de-bloat your current firmware?

Hi
I guess I should have been a bit clearer, my plan/goal is to flash another firmware onto my phone
Maybe I should say why I want to get into the bootloader:
I want to install fastboot and I can't cause I can't get into bootloader

So if I understand your request, you'll first need to flash a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, which you do via Odin. Once you have that, you can flash a new custom firmware as an unsigned .zip file. Follow the instructions here - this is what I used on my 925F.

Hi
I have installed TWRP recovery (and it's working just fine)
I've installed both the BL and the CP from this one
and I now have the baseband as stated in this (still unable to reach the bootloader)
the reason I wanna reach this magical place is so that I can install fastboot

Sorry, I'm still not sure what you're trying to achieve - you're obviously able to boot into Download Mode if you're now using TWRP (assuming you flash it via Odin). What are you trying to do via Fastboot that can't be done via TWRP?

Hi
I'm currently trying to install ubuntu touch on my phone as I'm using ubuntu on my pc and the only place I've found that helps with this that isn't over 2 years old is this one and doing the terminal commands requires the phone to be in bootloader mode or else it will not get recognized by the pc

Umm. . . According to that link you've posted, the Galaxy S6 isn't even supported. I suspected as much, as Fastboot is usually something you only see on pure Android devices (Nexus phones/tablets).
I'd strongly suggest you do some more reading on this before proceeding, as you'll almost certainly end up with an expensive paperweight otherwise!!

You need to unlock to flash a custom kernel which would be needed by the cm12 to run. So first.
1.Backup drm keys
2.Unlock BL
3. Flash CM kernel via fastboot
4. Flash CM Rom via recovery.

I just bought a Z3 tablet compact, which should be here at the end of next week. I haven’t found a tutorial which includes all steps to get from the standard rom to CM12. Did I miss any steps or does the following steps include everything?
Root tablet on the original Sony rom
Backup TA partition (I guess that's where the DRM keys are?)
Unlock bootloader
Flash a recovery (any recommendations?) I found this tutorial, but I only need one recovery and I don’t want to flash that zip every time I install a new rom.
Flash CM12. Are there any kernels beside that one included in the CM12 zips?

I guess you should just flash the kernel via fastboot after unlocking the bootloader, that would eliminate the need to flash a recovery. It's hitting 2 birds and one stone and besides CM uses a different kernel than stock so later you would really need to flash kernel.

Thanks for your reply. The whole flashing procedure is a lot more complicated than on my S3, so I have a follow-up question.
Should I just backup the TA partition, unlock the tablet, flash this kernel which should give me root and TWRP and then flash another recovery and CM12?
I found this recovery which is only semi-permanent, because you have to flash it before you upgrade/install a new CM12 version. It’s not big deal tbh, but is there a permanent recovery, which I only have to install once.
I'm also curious about this.
Right now, I'm trying to download the Flashtool program from Sony, but apparently, you need to "register" for it. Where did you guys download your Flashtool from?

Correct, make sure the kernel is compatible with CM

The whole procedure is really frustrating, maybe someone can help me here.
I did a backup of the TA partition and unlocked the bootloader. I tried flashing the boot.img from the cm.zip, but I have no idea how to flash the rom via the cm-recovery.
Flashing the advanced kernel to get TWRP wasn’t successful as well. I tried the fastboot mode of the Flashtool and flashed the kernel, but nothing changed.
Can someone post a brief guide with the next steps to get CM12 running (with cmd commands pls)?
EDIT: I just tried to use “adb sideload” in the CM recover, but “adb devices” doesn’t show the tablet .
EDIT2: EDIT: Seems like I got it to work after all. The DualRecover Installer worked, even without SuperSU installed.

I ran into the same problem usin the cm12 nightlies from 27th march 2015:
Sideloading would not work because the tablet is not recognized by the computer. I tried with Windows 7 and gentoo Linux.
Installing from the sd-card in recovery mode was also not possible due to a error of missing "/misc".
I solved the problem by manually choosing the driver in Windows 7. I booted the tablet into recovery. Choose update using adb as detailed in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-...t/root-root-locked-bootloader-sgp621-t3013534
Then I found the device in the windows device manager. Here I manually choose the adb driver that I installed earlier from the flashtool package. After that the device was correctly recognized by Windows and I could Sideloade the cm12 image.

[Q] Root Xperia with Lollipop?

Hi, I'm kind of a noob, so sorry if this is a dumb question.
I just installed the new Lollipop Fimware on my Z2, using Flashtool. Now I want to root the device, but reading through articles on XDA or XperiaBlog, they all said you need to use older firmware. So my question is, can you root the Z2 with Lollipop?
I'd be grateful for helpful answers.

Things needed:
PC, fastboot driver, know how to boot to bootloader(fastboot mode) and recovery mode
Now you can without having old kernel (not firmware)
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/kernel-andropluskernel-v10-t2974841 extract boot.img from the zip file.
Boot your phone to fastboot mode and in command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Go to recovery mode after restarting and then get UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and flash it via newly installed TWRP recovery.

Same here. I'm a noob wanting to learn how to root. But this went over my head :/
Would using PRF creator work? If you bundled the lollipop firmware with supersu.zip and flashed it would it give you lolipop with root? Because this is what i did to update to 4.4.4 with root. For anyone that doesnt know PRF creator is a program which combines 3 files which is are firmware of your choice, a superSU.zip and a recovery.zip. It combines them into a .zip that you can flash in recovery and have the firmware with superSU and a custom recovery on it.
I have a locked bootloader and mines rooted, do you want me to say how?
If its on lollipop, i would very much like to know how.
Isn't this the exact same answer as rooting 4.4.4?
Downgrade to 4.4.2
Root
Install recovery
Install rooted lollipop zip in recovery
If you don't understand this or the method posted above don't root. Also, if.you can't google things like fastboot to understand what it is don't root.

Everything was fine, till i tried superSU. Twrp flashed it fine, but then when i tried to reboot, the device got stuck in a bootloop.
wipe cache/delvik also didnt help.
I have a new z2, then unlocked the bootloader, and then got the Norway rom using xperifirm.
Norway rom installed fine. twrp installed fine. But i am facing a bootloop now that i have flashed UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
Anybody else face this issue?

try wiping just "Dalvik Cache" and restart again. I have also face similar strange issue when I was using FlashTool a couple of times.
If that doesn't work try normal wiping from TWRP and install firmware using FlashTool.

I'm no Android/Lollipop/Rooting expert but using an unlocked boot loader I was able to root Lollipop (23.1.A.0.690 ) easily using the kernel from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...ot-stock-flashable-kernel-23-1-0-690-t3061816
My steps were:
1. Install Lollipop
2. fastboot flash boot boot.img (to install above mentioned kernel with TWRP recovery)
So far so good.
PS: To use fastboot you'll likely need the drivers from flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/index.php) and if on Win 8.1 you'll need to search for instructions on how to install unsigned drivers.

[AIO] Guide to Unlock bootloader , Flash TWRP and a Custom rom.

Unlocking Bootloader1. Make sure you have a sim and active mobile data. Then go to about phone tap build number 7-8 times. After that go to advanced settings > developer options > turn on OEM unlocking and then check if this device is secure and click add account and device.
2. Download Mi unlock tool from here. Extract it and paste it in C:/unlock. or else your device won't be recognized for unlocking.
3. Open Mi unlock tool and then enter the Mi account which was on your device. Put your device in fastboot mode by pressing vol- and power and then connect to PC. Press unlock and if it tells you to wait you have no other option but to wait. If your mi flash tool shows connect your device even after you have connected it. Follow this guide here.
4. After you have unlocked your bootloader reboot your phone.
Flashing TWRP and Rooting via magisk
1. Download this TWRP image here. Thanks to the original developer mauronofrio.
2. Download adb and fastboot tools here and install it.
3. Now put your phone in fastboot mode and connect it with your pc. Now where you have downloaded the TWRP file rename it to TWRP.img and open a CMD window there if you don't know how just google.
4. Type the following commands
1. fastboot devices
2. fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
3. fastboot reboot recovery.
Click to collapse
5. Your phone will boot into TWRP now. But TWRP will be overwritten by stock miui recovery to stop that you need to flash Magisk. Download this zip move it to internal storage then flash by tapping on install and swipe to flash. Reboot your device. Reboot to recovery again to check if TWRP is present.
Now your device is rooted
OR
Flash latest OrangeFox Recovery if you don't want magisk.
Flashing A rom
1. Download.
2. Flash.
3 Format Data.
Done
Feel free to ask any questions. And don't point a finger at me for messing your device.

Flashing a custom rom is optional. You don't NEED to flash a rom to get TWRP...
---------- Post added at 06:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 PM ----------
I've unlocked the bootloader using the unlock tool and waited for 7 days,
But i rooted the device using a different method where i patched a boot.img and flashed that to the device.
Will this method still work for me as I'm already rooted but just want TWRP so i can flash other ROMs.. The post says you have to flash magisk from the (temporary) TWRP for the TWRP to stay as the recovery..
Will the magisk on my phone and the magisk installed here collide?
I just want TWRP so i can switch to a custom rom, so any input is appreciated!!

You can flash twrp and then check if it persists. If not flash magisk again their is no thing as magisk colliding lol. Just make sure you flash a newer version. And if nothing works flash stock rom and then twrp.
If you have the stock boot IMG flash it and then intsall twrp and magisk.

Nevermind.. i got it to work pretty easily..
I have twrp on this device and Pixel Experience ROM and it's working all fine..
But there's this one thing where when booting to recovery, it asks me to input a password for User(0) when i try to input anything it says password failed..
From reading the log, it says it's for decrypting data(8f I'm not mistaken)
Is this important? Do i need to decrypt it?
Currently the ROM works fine with no errors, so I'm not gonna bother, but would still like to know what this "decrypting" thing is..

Hey buddy, thank you for this quick step-by-step guide. I flash ROMs since 2012 and you know what? It helped me the same. Having all stuff needed for go from stock to custom concentrated in one place (plus some useful tip like the Magisk flash at the end) it's always useful and time-saving. Thank you
2 Micro-notes about fastboot btw:
- write 'fastboot (with lowered 'f'): it may confuse some newbie
- it's 'reboot' instead of 'boot'

Hi, I'm on official global ROM 12.5.3.0 RKGMIXM
And i turned on OEM Unlocking in developer mode yesterday (Which is confuse me a little a guide said i have to wait for 7 days for this but mine is nothing it's just switched to on)
OEM Unlocking is only one of the steps, but it does not unlock the bootloader. File a request with Xiaomi.
unlock bootloader
i recommend only booting to twrp, not flashing it
flash magisk 23
hide magisk

Why do you recommend to only booting to TWRP instead of flashing it?

because the twrp developer instruction is to booting , not flashing

Aside of that instruction, actually is it 'dangerous' if we install the TWRP? What 'bad things' would/may happen if we install it? (Because I see some guides about installing it on RN10, like this one for example, and I was almost followed that guide).
Risk of bootloop

Risk of bootloop and fastboot loop... because this twrp is modded to be booted and then flashed (you can found the option in advanced)
One time i faced a fastboot loop once i flashed directly the twrp , that's why i recommend booting it first and then , flashing

Yes, I mean that, (booting it first then flashing,.. (the TWRP right?).. I think the guide (which the youtube link I attached above) is also told to do that, right? (Or do I misunderstand this?)

Please confirm these;
*So we can:
Use TWRP only temporarily, only to root the phone (by flashing Magisk v23),
and then,
back to using the stock recovery on our RN10 afterward,
even if the RN10 is already rooted?
**If the answer for my question above is yes, then (in RN10 condition of Unlocked Boot Loader, Rooted, Stock MIUI & Stock Recovery) ;
Would we still get official OTA Update from Xiaomi (and can download and install the update- as how it's like before rooting the phone)?
Thank you in advance
It's an unnecessarily complicated procedure. Just flash a modified boot.img for your Miui using fastboot from your PC. If you don't have the ability to modify the boot.img on another rooted phone yourself, request a modified boot.img with the exact update version of your Miui here.

Thanks again, (and maybe I will try your suggestion later).. but (sorry)... your reply doesn't answer my questions.
(I think my questions are very clear and probably very easy to be answered by someone who has experience/knowledge about it (like you?).. no?)
Forgive my nooby questions.
But I really want to know as much as I can (especially about the answer for some questions I have inside my head about the matter, like I asked above),.. before executing doing something about my phone.
oops... I'm sorry for double send
In the past I rooted Miui and then continued to get OTA updates. However, this cannot be confirmed for all versions of Miui. Each new update changes the phone software and so what worked before may not work today.

Hi, I'm unlocked my phone and installed the orange fox it's the custom recovery right? Because it say so.
If yes, By Flash Magisk ZIP how to do that? Please explain the detailed steps, Thanks.
First of all, I would like to point out that Magisk (root) is a security risk. Without understanding the issues, the phone is more easily exploitable.
To install, just download the magisk file with the ZIP extension. In recovery, select the install option and select this file. Once installed, exit recovery and boot the system. Once the system boots, use magisk and complete the installation it requests.

the answer above is right ... but i would suggest to flash Orange Fox zip and then Magisk zip... to avoid problems
isn't there decrypt.zip for RN10?
How to decrypt this phone?
I usually did that along with rooting with my android phones before this.
Edit:
Update:
It's ok now I understand how, after watching this video.

I need help

Hello XDA developers, I'm in urgent and I have a really big problem. It sounds funny but, I deleted my realme ui recovery ,_,
I was trying to install PPUI 4.1 on my Realme 7 but I saw a tutorial that you have to erase the recovery to install TWRP. Please, I need a solution of how can I get it back. I also tried flashing a lot of recoveries and their vbmeta but nothing works. Sadly.
Edit: I'm on RMX2151_11_C.17 | Realme UI 2.0 Latest version
Here is the stock recovery

You sure? I'm on RMUI2.0 and how do I flash it? Can I type 'fastboot boot recovery.img'? Are my data will be wiped?
Sorry for a lot of questions, haha

From what I read before, fastboot boot will only boot to that recovery file temporarily but I haven't tried it myself. It should be
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I'm not 100% sure it will work without problems, but if it did, your data will not be wiped.
I suggest you wait for someone else to answer coz I'm not expert. I only learned from guides in the telegram group.

You can try, first, if fastboot works in your device, type adb reboot fastboot, once the script ends, quickly disconnect device from your PC and again reconnect it, you will be redirected to fastboot, if the bootloader is unlocked, you could flash it using fastboot commands.
If you can´t get it to work then you can flash it using SPFT https://spflashtool.com/, put the recovery, in the same folder, with the attached files. All the sources to can use the tool, here https://www.getdroidtips.com/bypass-mediateks-sp-flash-tool-authentication-protection/

Most of the custom roms I've seen requires formatting data. Just to be sure have you unlocked bootloader already? That requires wiping data iirc.
If not then nothing will really work with what you're doing.

What you are saying now is totally different from what you firstly posted.
Installing a custom ROM doesn't require a stock recovery (just in case you are confusing), and obviously, to can switch from a stock ROM to a custom ROM, that has a total different basement, it's mandatory to format data, anyway, you should back up your data previously to do so.

Then you can root your phone 1st then backup your files to a computer and use migrate backup to backup app data. Note that migrate backup is limited to 4gb. Then do the fastboot flash i mentioned before

Why you are saying that you cannot install a working recovery, I don't know of any attempt you did to achieve it.
A stock recovery is not needed to install a custom ROM, and even you can't install a custom ROM using a stock recovery.
If you want to join, flashing your device and stuff like this, better learn how to use SPFT, also you have this tool https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient, this can save your device, if something in the process goes wrong.

OK, then what you are trying to install is an "old" Android 10 based ROM, if this is the case, then just download a stock Android 10 ROM, flash it through SPFT, then use SPFT to flash the custom recovery, transfer the custom ROM to your external SD Card (preferably) or sideload it, through recovery, and flash it. In the process you need to unlock bootloader, and immediately to flash the custom recovery, boot to it, using hardware buttons.

Alright so, it might sound funny but I think I fixed it. I was playing with my downloaded recoveries until I downloaded the stock recovery, it is compatible but when I do fastboot reboot recovery I get stuck at Orange State for like 30min and it boots me into the recovery so does anyone know a solution for this? And thank you for everything and sorry for wasting y'all's time. Sincereley.

You have to boot to recovery using hardware buttons (PWR + vol. down), in regard to orange state, this is absolutely normal when bootloader was unlocked, it's not an issue but a cosmetic thing.
