Mobile data not working and Access Point Name settings are not available - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

I have no mobile data, not even the little up and down arrows or letters next to the sims signal bars show up.
I have tried all the troubleshooting and different settings for prefered network type, airplane mode is off, mobile data is on with no limits, no power saving modes are on. Phone is dual sim so I have tried on both sims and tried disabling the other sim and changing the sim slots, both sims are loaded with data credit that works in other android devices. Wifi works fine. Factory reset does not help.
There is only one trouble shooting thing I can't try. When I select settings > more > mobile networks > access point names it says
"Access Point Name settings are not available for this user"
Perhaps if I could set APN I could get mobile data. How can I do that or how can I try to get mobile data to work?
Phone is E2363 with build 26.1.B.2.102 Thanks if you can help

Try clicking on the plus sign and add in the operator name (mine is DST in my country) and followed with a 'dot' then internet in the Mobile network settings.
Example for me: DST.internet
You may also want to try with .WAP
Example for me again: DST.WAP
I left mine like that and I seemed to have gotten the Mobile data to work. But my case was different, I have the up and down arrows when Mobile data is turned on, just couldn't access the Web.
If adding another APN fails, flash ftf. Seems like the last resort.

There is no plus sign, just the text
"Access Point Name settings are not available for this user"

Oww.. Sorry.
I guess you can try reflashing the ROM? :silly:
From what I have google searched, it has something to do with com.android.providers.telephony and we can't do anything about that without root so reflashing is the only option.
EDIT: Have you tried going around with the Service Providers stuff and rebooting? Idk might as well give that a try

downloading automatic settings from Settings -> More -> Internet settings fixed it, thanks yall.

Question on data usuage.

Hi all, i've been having this problem with my Sony Ericson xperia Play.
My bills came in as a hefty $$ bomb. I do not have data plan, so all internet activities are charged at GPRS connection rate. I've had my mobile network switched off, so there's no possibility that applications would still connect to data? Or there is? i only use my phone for smsing and dealing calls.
I called my service provider up, and they told me that my phone's internet activity is active and running. have you guys ever encountered such problem? Could anyone please enlighten me?
Thanks in advance to all.
Usually there arent any problems like this for android. And just to
make sure, the box u checked off was in Settings>Wireless & Networks>
Mobile Networks>Data enabled right?
Normally once you get a phone, the data will automatically on. So normally I will boot up without sim at first, then switch off data.
(I've unlimited plan btw)

You could always use an app that will not allow any apps to access the network. ie a firewall like (droid wall for rooted users). That would eliminate your problem. There are many apps out there which need permission to access the network, including the stock email, google maps, the market, and etc.
I'm of the same mind as the previous posters. But if you see data being used ie. the 3G symbol or whatever your data symbol is and it lights up or is present when the check mark on mobile data is off then it's not actually off. In other words if you don't see only the cell singal bars you could be using data. Hope that helps.
Edit: Also you said "SMSing" would that also include pictures or video in your defn of that? If so those are data. At least in the U.S. they are.
There is a program called APNdraoid or sg like that. this program modifies the apn settings and dont allow your phone to connect to mobile internet. btw you can manually change the apn settings from Settings->Wireless&Networks-> Mobile Networks->Access Point Names. all you have to do is to modify the settings (add some text to the end of the apn row)

To avoid data charges (and seems that you don't have a data plan), I would suggest delete all your APN settings under Access Point Name in Mobile network settings.
If the problem still occurs, you can call your operator to disable internet access from your mobile account.

Thanks for the suggestions ! i'd just go ahead and change the apn ! But i still can't find the root to the problem. It's like paying for something i had never used at all ..
Btw, I am curious that if you tried to load a webpage in your browser when mobile network is unticked? If you did, does it load?

S2 can call and text but cant connect on mobile data.

I rooted and flashed my GF's SGS2 with wanamlite 13.0 ROM and its perfect.. but now, she called me and asked why she cant connect on the internet using mobile data.
No signal indictors like 'E', 'G' or 'H' are showing even she enabled the mobile data and neither changing GSM to CDMA vice versa worked.
She has also tried restarting the phone, searching the network operator and choosing the right one but to no avail. Her sister also has the same network provider but she doesnt have any problems on the mobile data.
Is it possible that it is a Phone defect? I really doubt it since she can do text and call using her SGS2.. Im confused >.<
PS: I've already tried searching this kind of question so please, dont post 'letmegooglethatforyou' links. Thank you.
First thing you do is go to the carriers website & get APN settings, write them down & check the APN settings on the phone. If there are APN settings on the phone but they're different in any way to the ones you got from the carrier's website, change them. If there aren't any on the phone (in settings/mobile networks/access point names), these need to be entered, make sure APN type is set to default.

Thank you for your wonderful advice..
Im so stressed that I even forgot that there is an APN settings needed (I swear that it is automatic in my own S2).
Anyways, I'll call her once again and try to work things out.. I hope she can understand and follow how to check/change the APN.
Will update once done.
Thanks again!
No probs Post again once you've checked/put the correct APN settings in if it's still not working & we'll nut it out further.

how to reset APN?

I've been having problems with the Play store (error 500) and I googled a how-to. It said reset APN, so I googled that too. It said to go to settings<more settings<mobile networks<access point names. I got to mobile networks, but there isn't a APN setting. I press menu, and still no settings.
help me out please

that is indeed strange. I am not running a TW rom whereas on my SlimBean it is under Mobile Networks as well. On this TW guide it shows the same. What you could do is contact your provider and they might send you a configuration SMS for APNs (e.g. my provider here sends an SMS for mobile internet & MMS APN configuration that you simple click and install).

Can't enter "Access Point Names"

Hello,
I got a new phone running android 4.2.2. Everything works as expected except that when I try to configure the access point name I can't. This is because whenever I enter mobile networks > access point names, it appears to open and immediately closes thus making it impossible to enter APN details. I tried other APN software but in all the app crashes. I am sure that phone is capable of using mobile internet because it can detect 3G signals.
What can be done?
Thanks!
Is there some manual way to create an APN name and activate it ?
Different phones, different ways to do it...

Mobile hotspot no internet.

Mobile data works fine on the phone but when I use hotspot/usb tethering my computer(s) picks up the connection but no internet at all comes through when I connect.
I've tried factory reseting 2x, mobile network reseting the APN seems to match, connecting using multiple working computers/phone, using the internet on my phone at the same time as well while WiFi is disabled on pocophone,
Don't that a clue where to go from here cheers.
Just got it today brand new and set up using default settings
same here, btw i use xiaomi.eu rom
Any Luck fixing it?

I had the same problem. For fix that you need to put DUN in capital letters and problem solved.

Hello everybody. I own a pocophone f1 global version 128gb with 6 of ram. Unfortunately I have this problem and I can not share the data of my mobile package (I have tim italia 50gb) with any other device. I tried to insert the simcard on differt slotsim but nothing. I tried everything. To change some data in the apn settings for example by adding DUN in capital letters in the entry "type apn" but nothing. Since the device is rooted I also tried with different roms with miui global stable and developer, pixel experience, and I'm currently on the last lineage unofficial but nothing, can not share the data. I tried to insert the sim into my ipad and share the data hotspot quietly so I think it's not a network limitation. I no longer know what to do and I think at this point that it is a hardware problem. In any case, I forgot to say that I can easily navigate from the phone. If anyone knows how to solve, I kindly ask for advice. Thank you.

I solved simply by changing rom with last nitrogen os and now the hotspot with the data works very well. Thanks anyway.
Poco f1 hotspot issue
I have the issue for MIUI Global 10.2.2.0 stable, I just reset all the network settings and it worked for me.
Just go to the settings> In wireless and network go to more > hit reset wifi , mobile and Bluetooth
At the bottom hit reset and you are good to go, just check all your preferred settings before using data.
