Network operator name not resolved !! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
Now this is a strange error... I upgraded to Lollipop 5.1 yesterday and did a fresh installation. Now I can't see the operator names !
If I scan for network operators, I get 55533 -65502 -65504
It should be Vodacom, MTN etc....
Any idea ?

Can you register on a network, despite it just showing as numbers or does the service not work either? I would post the build number of the software and which Z phone, in case there is something specific that someone else might know about.

If you're registered to the network, is there really an issue then, other than cosmetic? I know there are multiple versions of different Z phones, like c6602, c6603, etc. Did you make sure to get the correct update for your version? Did you update via OTA, FTF, or Sony PC Companion?

It's OTA update.
Not really cosmetic as I travel a lot and when I roam I need to select the cheapest plan.
I'm positive that it's the correct version. Never seen anything like that except WM 5.0 back in time.

Yea, not really sure. I've seen it while roaming, but that's it. Guess you could always try a factory reset...I find many kinds of phones, Apple and Android, benefit from resetting after OTAs, especially if it's a large jump in versions.

[Q] "Mobile Network not Available"

Hi all, it seems like I'm mucked something up on my phone because I'm just getting this message every time I try to make a call.
What I've done to try and fix it: double checked APN, set network operator, tried flashing back to stock through the automatic unlock tool (doesn't work..? it tries to open RSD lite and then the phone restarts back into CM 10.1), calling my carrier's support line (straighttalk, gave up after 2 hours on hold), so I'm coming to you guys.. anybody get this message before? What can I do?
Searching for it on the forums gives a whole host of different solutions from something to do with the kernel, a package that's carrier specific (not my carrier), checking apn, resetting the network operator, etc, I have no idea what to do. Any advice is welcome.
Thank you so much.
Try flashing a diffferent radio. That would be my first suspect.

I'm currently baseband N_01.77.30P which is a little outdated I guess, I've found no less than 8 dead links for 36p but no active one, including from the answers thread. Anybody have a link handy?
Edit: http://atrix.tk/baseband/
Added this to the Atrix reboot thread too, so people can find stuff.
Thank you so much for the response.

Oh sorry, that one has always been working, so I didn't really check it.
BTW it's not really dead, just suspended temporarily. I know it makes no difference to you at the moment since you needed the radio right now, I'm just saying.
Did you try going into the hidden service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and see if there's any useful info there?
Other than that, I suppose your SIM card could also be a problem. Do you have (or can borrow) any other to try out?

Just got a new sim card in the mail today, figured I'd try that before posting here. Same problem as the last one.
Out of curiosity I dialed 911 and it worked (oops.. hung up right away). I checked my imei to see if its blocked, it isn't.
(*#*#4636#*#*) says: No service and no phone number. LOL.
So I called up straight talk and it turns out they activated my phone incorrectly. 30 minutes on the phone later and I'm good to go.
Thanks again for all the help!

Still not a single rom?

The Z2 tablet has been out for several months, and I love mine, but there still isn't a single custom rom? I really want to load cyanogenmod on this thing. Is there something stopping development or are there just not any developers who own one of these tablets? I'm sorry for coming off as impatient but I can't find any roms on these forums or anywhere else.

Well, a few days ago Sony relased the kernel sources on GitHub (as anounced here and the actual sources on GitHub are found here). This should mean that more developers will be able to create some ROMs. However, there is only a preview ROM which was posted on this fourm. Note I said "preview" and it's only for the LTE model. Looks like ROMs are in the works.
I will be flashing Cyanogenmod whenever it comes out for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, so hopfully that will come into existence someday . Will be watching these fourms! By the way, I'm not a Developer, however I have been looking over these fourms recently.

Update for "Still not a single rom?"
I'm sure you guys know this, but there is a unofficial release for Cyanogenmod posted on the original development forum for this tablet (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet/orig-development/z2-tabletdevelopment-cm11-android-4-4-t2809793). Haven't tested it yet however there are a few comments stating that the NFC does not work. Other than that it sounds promising for being in development. Note when you download the ROM there will be "Castor" and "Castor_windy" rom. The "castor_windy" is for the WI-FI model, and the "castor" one is for the LTE supported tablet.
Can anyone get the .zip to download though? It keeps wanting me to pay to download the file. Maybe it's just me though . . .

I bought second hand z4 from some guy who work for Sony. How to flash normal (not prototype) rom in this device? Everything works fine, Camera., Apps, Android os is 5.0.2 kernel 3.10.49, everything is smooth, but there is anoying message "You have crash artifacts to upload" all the time!? If I cant flash normal rom, is there any method to kill that message? Thanks..

I believe that sticker talks for itself and my advice would be not to be so open about this transaction.
In any case unless you have an EMMA account with relevant privileges you can't do much.
If you are lucky enough and Sony enables OTA updates for customer acceptance firmware applicable to the variant you have then at least you might get a firmware update in the future. But if you have as you say the crash handling app installed then probably you have an quite old FW which might not get any OTA.
Is there any way to instal new firmware without OTA? I think for z4 actual android official version is 5.11? If i kill process com.sonymobile.crashmonitor.system and com.sonymobile.crashmonitor.ui anoying message "You have crash artifacts to upload" is gone. Z4 is alredy long time on the market, so stickers now dont have much point anymore?

The last part is something you need to discuss with Sony but I don't believe a prototype unit on the loose is something they don't take seriously.
If I were you I'd ask the seller to take it back and refund you because as I wrote the only option for updates you have is either EMMA access with the proper permissions to download customer acceptance firmwares, someone with such access to give you the firmware or sony to enable OTA for customer acceptance firmware. The latter happens some times.
With the current firmware you have you can of course kill as you said some processes to get rid of the crash monitor app and notifications but there are still other debug bits enabled. If the firmware has root access enabled - there are such debug firmwares and you can check that from adb shell with su - you can clean it up a bit more.
That is all I can provide as info.
Solution is very simple. I download latest firmware 28.0.A.8.260 with XperiFirm and flash with flashtool and everything works perfect! No anoying messages anymore, nothing..

Prototypes have a different bootloader so you can't flash retail firmware on it and vice versa.
Up to Z3 tablet this was valid also for tablets, if they changed that in Z4 then you are lucky.

Now i'm on my pc, i can see your signature. looks like your version of the phone has a lot options in stock recovery than the one i'm seeing. I have the tmobile variant (also know as Tmobile Revvl 5g) in US, the recovery is stripped down more. Hopefully Tmobile would push out the update.

Suggestions? I assume it's retrieved by a system app so for the most part out of reach.

Thank you for posting I just downloaded to look around the zip file. Has anyone here figured out how to correctly extract the OTA Firmware boot.img from boot.img.p file and try to patch with Magisk? 7z opens the boot.img.p as an archive. When running the file in magisk it does not recognize it.

Good question, it might be possible.
Issues I've had with 11:
- YT Music sometimes thinks its offline, only started when I installed 11 and its definitely not offline.
Another bodge I've had to do is disable absolute volume due to a BT speaker but thats the speakers fault (lowest gain is too high).
OTA released, Jan 2021 to May 2021 PL.
Received the OTA for Android 11 this morning (T-Mobile Revvl 5G variant)
Also received this OTA on both of my Revvl 5G devices. Getting the gut feeling it might shave an hour of SOT off, but didn't have enough time with 10 to properly compare (the OTA auto-installed). Didn't note any major differences/issues with the update otherwise.
To update. Compared against the 6B6XUMX1 that the device shipped with, the Android 11 OTA drained 10% overnight and reduced SOT a measured 2h. This is with a fresh wipe and minimal app reinstall. I'd avoid for now.

If it prototype unit can i do something?
If it's actually a prototype unit, you're probably going to have a bad time. That's a Japanese firmware build (DOCOMO) and the PVT in the build info isn't encouraging either since that usually means Product Verification Test. What are you trying to do with it that is stopping you from using it as a normal phone? I assume you can't get software updates...

Sorry about my comment, but that was a very bad idea. Prototypes are likely not the same hardware specs as final releases and not intended for the public.
You can try other Xperia 5 IV firmware if you want, but likely still going to fail.
