C5 Ultra becomes unresponsive at random times. - Sony Xperia C5 Ultra

This phone is like liquid most of the time then all of a sudden it slows right down, switching between apps can take over 10 seconds, keyboard typing can be 20 seconds behind. Ive tried 2 hard resets and only installed Google apps. Maybe Sony hasnt plugged the 5.0 lollipop bugs in this firmwqre. Anyie else having the same problem?

I am facing the same problem too. My solution is to control how many apps running in the background. This will avoid the phone running out of RAM. This phone didnt have preinstall apps that free memory and kill apps so you need looka and download that apps.

Screen turns on by itself...

Hi,
I've noticed in the past couple of days that my screen turns on by itself for about 3 or 4 seconds.
Phone information in picture attached.
On the weekend I did an OTA update via Kies, on Wednesday I flashed This Kernel (SpeedMod S3) via Odin.
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks for your help
this usually happens when u have a certain app or a live wallpaper that does advertise on your phone ... try removing some apps that are for free but ad-supported or remove some live wallpapers and it should go away
Yeah thanks "striving-to-survive", I had noticed some notification adverts since the OTA update. I haven't added any apps. Unless its an app I updated. "AirPush Detector" used to tell me what was sending those notifications, however that detects nothing when I scan. Can anyone recommend something that does a similar job that might tell me where the notifications are coming from? I don't fancy just deleting a bunch of apps on the off chance they are the offender.
I do not think it is kernel related.
Download adfree and run it.
Also here in xda search for the app called
"Anti spy mobile free"

I wasn't sure if it was kernel related, just wanted to give as much info as possible about what I had done recently with my phone.
I have Ad Free, but just realised I hadn't hit the "download and install hosts" button since my OTA update.
I got Anti Spy Mobile Free, after scanning that said I have no spywares, 4 suspicious apps: Contapps, Phone Backup (HChina), ooVoo & MyBackup Pro. None of which I think would be responsible.
Hopefully Ad Free will sort it out.
Thanks for your help
Same issue for me with stock fw and kernel. I have a battery brain since two days and I can see my screen on time up to 4 hours per day without using my phone.

Update your hosts then and keep an eye on it. Check for hosts daily

I have similar issue. My phone also turns screen on by itself, but it looks like it stays on until I turn it off. This have happened about 4 times during week or two...
I have tried AirPush detector. Didn't find anything.
Anti Spy Mobile found 0 Spywares and 2 Warnings. Light Flow Lite and TrustGo Security. I have had Light Flow Lite for a long time, so I doubt it can't be it. TrustGo is quite new, but I think it's trusted app. Could it be the reason..?
AdFree is working and I don't see ads.
What should I try next?

[Q] My Mobile become slower after being Idle for a while.

Hello,
ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ
My mobile information.
ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ
i have Samsung Galaxy Y Duos GT-S6102
Android 2.3.6.
I am using the Stock ROM, My mobile is rooted.
I am also using GO Launcher EX and Go Locker.
ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ
My Problem.
ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ
When i am using my phone for a while it is fast, for example switching the AppDrawer screens, Open Messenger close it again, Go to home screen instantly after pressing ( Home ).
but when i leave my mobile for a while ( 10min + ) it become slow ( when i unlock the screen the Home screen appear after a while, the app drawer take long time to load and is laggy while switching screens, opening an application take a while too.
Notes :
1- I Don't have any Auto-Task killer applications ( i had before but uninstalled it )
2- I noticed that my phone lose Internet Wifi connection too, because when i open FB messenger it show me the "Connecting" message.. i also doesn't receive notifications after leaving my phone idle for a while.
3- When i unlock the phone and start using it the notifications are revived ( delayed notification )
Well, your device has very low RAM. Apps like Facebook, Messenger and Go Launcher, use a lot of RAM. And if you have to much apps running at once, your phone will slow down. You can try Greenify app to hibernate some of these apps (Facebook for sure). A used to have a Galaxy Ace, and Greenify helped a lot.
About Wifi and delayed notifications, see in Wi-Fi settings if the option to keep it on during sleep is set to "always". If not, change it. That should solve the problem.

Thanks for your answer, but..
I Uninstalled facebook 2 months ago, And the problem is not that the mobile is generally running slow, the fact is while i am using it for more than 30 sec it start to be fast and keep to be fast until i lock it again.
but when i lock it and keep it for more than 10 minute and then re-use it, it run slow for about 30 second then start to be fast again ( which is not good when i want to do a fast call or something with such a delay )
i am suspecting that after the mobile be IDLE for a while the service and applications closes it self .. The launcher close itself ( thats why the mobile always delay ), the applications background service too ( thats why i get no notifications ).
so if my theory is right, what is the reason that cause this ?
Now I understood...
Well, I'm no android expert, but I know the system needs RAM to work. Some applicatins are cached in memory to open faster, without the need to be load all over again, but when the system runs low on memory, it tends to kill background applications/services to keep foreground apps in use.
Maybe your apps are not being cached, and/or being restarted for some reason right after the phone wakes, that could explain why your phone slow down a bit then get back to normal.
I hope some dev can explain it better.

Definitely low RAM can be a culprit, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least half the reason is the combo of Go Locker and Go Launcher. They are cool apps with all kinds of customizations, but have used them on multiple devices, even the most powerful ones at the time and have never been pleased with the performance vs other comparable apps. Especially if the Go lockscreen is fighting with the system one to see which one will turn on will you hit the power button and the RAM switching over to it in time when the phone wakes.
Another possible thing would be that the screen off profile is too aggressive and takes a bit to ramp up to normal speeds and get everything running again.
But try using a different combo for the lockscreen and launcher and see if it doesn't make a difference (make sure to kill the Go apps otherwise they will run in the background along side the new apps and make it worse). My $ is on that it will.

Not responding and restarting

Hi,
My Xperia Z ultra was working fine until 3 hours ago. There were few updates from googleplay, authorised, left in charge, came back 2 hours ago and it has been freezing , shutting and restarting continuously, it freezes the UI , xperia home app and evertything else.
I use it for business and it doing my head.
thank you for your help.
Ok that is weird. My friend just asked me regarding her Xperia Z Ultra. It has the same symptoms as the one you described, and it also happened since 1-2 days ago, when she left the phone on charge, and it updates some applications on google play. I already tried uninstalling some apps to no avail. Removing the SD card lets you navigate your phone longer, but when you try to launch ANY apps (including the option to factory reset your phone) it will immediately freeze, and restart. I might try installing custom ROM in this thing...
Solved
Hi, being for business and out of desperation I have hard reset it. It wasn't easy as it would freeze before I could press the relevant button. What I have done is let the phablet battery die, recharge it completely on off mode, turn it on, follow the link for the reset option, and it worked! It took another 3/4 hours to reinstall everything but so far so good, I hope it helps
got same problem within 2 days,i have two xperia and always hang & restart...any solution ??
Another instance...
I updated 48 apps today on the Google Play Store (i've disabled auto update) and i'm now in a bootloop as well...
I guess it's on of the Sony or Google apps that had an update that would cause this?
I think the issue is related to Xperia Home, will switch to default launcher and check.
Got same problem. Short story: did the factory reset, issue slowed down a bit but still present, now I'm downloading the same stock rom via flash tool and after flashing see if the problem stopped...
same Problem to me. did the factory reset by companion and it worked for two days, no started again with the restart loop and freezing continously... any Infos from Sony...?
I just called the Xperia Support. It is just a Facebook problem. Simply deinstall Facebook app and your mobile will work again without any problems. Facebook has been informed about the issue. when the problem will be solved by Facebook is unknown...
I have C6833 and same symptoms. When I check Sony Diagnoistics app it shows Instagram caused system freeze/crash.
Instagram freezes mobile and then it restarts. Something like overheat protection inside forcing a restart after app freeze.
Also Facebook app crashed when you just start and flashes multiple times.
Those two apps updated by Facebook and I believe some compatibility issue.
Found older version of Facebook from apkmirror and installed.
Now Facebook & Instagram not crashing, mobile not restarting.
JFYI version from June 14th.

Update: I flashed the same stock rom with flashtool and everything is ok now.... It looks like the rom corrupted somehow and the factory reset didn't helped completely...
I also noticed it is caused by the latest Facebook update. Just check the latest reviews now on the play store...
Removed Facebook app (luckily also not part of ROM). Phone now stable and 24/7/365 50% CPU usage dropped to around 20%. The last Facebook update is very bad... Not going to use it anymore on my Ultra... Facebook is now blacklisted for my Z.
Second update: facebook worked for 2 days and again stopped working, messenger constantly showing one unread message which I opened 100 times, but the number notification on icon is still present. Also sometimes a random app freezes, phone looses touch and reboots after some time... Looks like something in hardware is slowly diying...
Solved
As some of you guys found out the culprit is the latest update from FB. After uninstalled it everything is fine .
Thank you for your input.

[Discussion][N950F] Official Oreo 8.0 slow and sluggish

Have any of you experienced problems with the official 8.0 ROM?I've been using it for a month now and I'm finding quite a few annoyances like :
1)A LOT of times when I multitask apps have to reload even though I have like half my RAM available.
2)Google Play store/Facebook/Reddit app scrolling is laggy the first 5 seconds after opening the app.
3)I get occasional crashes on apps like Instagam and Reddit.
4)Load times on apps in general seem a bit too slow.
That being said I'd like to clarify that I have like 15 apps installed on my phone and it's not been overloaded in any way.I even have BK Manager and have disabled quite a few of the unnecessary services that run in the background.Just overall disappointed with RAM management and overall speed of the device.

Maybe just wipe the phone before doing any updates ? So just backup your datas => wipe => and set it up again ! i'm pretty sure it gonna work
Just Backup all data. Do a factory reset from recovery. everything will be fine.
even i faced wierd issue.... suddenly phone froze and system ui got huge issue...

Android 8.1 killing VPN

I have an Alcatel Tetra running Android 8.1. Any always on VPN app is getting killed for some reason. It's definitely not a high memory user, and I've whitelisted it in every optimization setting I can find. I talked to the app developer, and they said Android is killing it. 8s there any way to prevent this? Like an app or setting? I'd prefer not to have to root my device, as it's new enough that there may not be a way yet(released September 2018)
Turns out Android 8 has an extra layer of security that doesn't allow apps to "monitor" their data.VPN apps have yet to adapt to that. So,some of them are getting killed. But big companies are fine.I use VPS Express Premium and faced Nothing on my New Pixel While some apps get killed.

I've been told by the developer that they've adapted to Oreo, but Android still randomly kills it. It has a watchdog process, a persistent notification, and a high priority. It use ~157mb ram on a 2gb ram Alcatel Raven. Any help appreciated
I don't know about that but on Pixel 3 XL not many VPNs work.I only get 2-3 apps working.Maybe a daemon is killing them due to low ram warning as your ram is too low and 150+ is a lot of ram for a background network process combined with other apps and the new system memory hog Android Oreo UI.You might want to compile a kernel which allows app memory allocation or swap support to stop this from happening. Also log them to see why or what killed them.

Not likely. According to Android, I average 1.3 to 1.4gb ram used. And system ui had always been a ram hog. It's essentially what makes the Android gui work. And it's not like it dies when I should be low on ram, like a game that I play that averages 579mb. Then it didn't die. My biggest thing, is there an app that will act as a watchdog? My antivirus has a companion app for that, but it only watches the antivirus
I used to use KeepRunning, but it doesn't work on 7.0+
There are a lot of apps that logs for you even in rooted mode.I've never had the need to install any so I don't know about any.

UPDATE:
I, for the most part, solved my problem. It was a pre installed app called smart manager (com.tct.onetouchbooster) indiscriminately killing background apps. Used ADB to remove it (for user 0), and the VPN now works.
**Alcatel users, please ensure (if apps are not started on boot or killed) to remove Smart Manager via ADB**
