Trading a G4 for an Edge? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wondering if it were worthwhile trading a G4 for an S6 Edge. I know the answers I'll likely get because this is in the S6 forum but thought I'd ask. Nothing wrong with my G4 I just get bored with phones easy and wanted to try my first Samsung since the Galaxy Nexus. Going to post around Craigslist looking for a suitor.

The galaxy s6 edge is still the best phone on the market. Comparing it to the LG G4, it has a superior processor and display, as well as build quality. If you can, I would recommend you buy one that is unbranded so that it has far less bloatware. While the G4 has a removable battery, I have no problem going five days without plugging my phone in.

Thanks for the reply. I love the G4 and I dont have any problems with it..Just a bit bored. I saw a friend's Edge+ and got a bit jelly.

Personally I am no fan of Phablets.
The curved display seems gimmicky,
however I find people edge to be a useful feature.
I would actually recomend the S6 edge over the Edge+ any day.

I definitely wouldn't want the edge+ or note. Just a regular edge or s6

Worth it to upgrade to S4 from S3--Opinions wanted

Hi all,
Love my S3 but also love shiny new things. Is the S4 worth an upgrade? Or is it very much similar to the S3. I'd be running it with some sort of alternative ROM, and rooted. Currently on Beans 15 on the S3, and happy with it.
What advantages would I gain from the S4? Is the battery life better or worse? Any other issues I should know about?
In my opinion-not worth it... especially if you're going to run a custom rom. Yeah it has some new features with all the air gestures and what not, but half the time (if you're like me) you're probably not going to use them that much and having them on will hurt your battery life. But in the end it all comes down to personal preference.

The call reception was worth it to me. I noticed on my S3 I had a lot of dropped calls and sometimes static. The S4 seems to have better battery life (IMO).
If you're into the shinny new things like me then it is almost impossible to resist getting an S4 just because.
The S4 is a good phone. I preordered mine. I've loved it ever since. It's fast when doing things and runs great. I just need to find a set of applications to get on it..
Naw..get a razor
It is a no brainer
I went to Best Buy, traded in my S3 for an S4 they gave me $225 trade in, I am not looking back. Loving the S4
Still on the fence
I have good phone reception, and good data speeds, and my S3 is pretty snappy with Beans Rom. Still not sold on the S4.
S4
I added a new line for my GF and got myself an S4, I had an S3 before that and gave it to her. I don't think that I would have upgraded to the S4 if I wouldn't have done it the way that I did. I like the S4 it's a really nice phone and works well but it's just not as much of an upgrade as say going from the S2 to the S3 IMO.
Wait till you can snag one of craigslist for $300 in a few months. Wouldn't pay full price or use an upgrade if you have an s3
I think it depends on a couple of things
Reception is slightly better but still not great - but enough to be noticeable.
Battery life - SIGNIFICANTLY better.
there are other things but not really worth mentioning IMHO.

I love the shiny as well and paid full price for the S4, but sold my S3 on Swappa to recoup some of the cost. Ended up getting a good price on Swappa, so I'm pleased as punch!

[Q] Should I buy S6 or S6 Edge?

I want to try Samsung products for the first time. Which one should I get? S6 or S6 Edge? I really love the design of S6 edge, looks so beautiful. But is it worth the price?
I think if you'll do it ,you should do it right..go for the Edge..!!
for a first time Samsung user, try Edge;
want big? think big then
The good news is the Note 5 will be along in about 6 months so if you get bored or want to go bigger you will likely get the dual edge on the Note 5 with internal storage and sealed battery.
S6 edge for sure

S6 edge is better to buy.
Samsung was done a big new things on s6 and edge such as camera it is un comparable. And exynos 7420 will give more fast experience otherthan every smartphone in the world.
100% Personal Preference. :good:
I'd say go EDGE ALLLLL DAY! Rack them sales up for Samsung so they see the positive response for the development of the next Note 5 LOL...j/k
GO EDGE. :good:
Please don't go by what everyone here is saying. Just go to the shop, and try the demos. See why works best for you? That's what I did, and I'm going with the Edge personally. You might not like it though, or maybe to you its not worth the extra $100? Try before you buy.
im thinking there will be a rom that allows S6 Edge features on the S6
Yeah I am also torn between the two

What variant has most support? H850? H860? F700?

When buying phones I always check for its model and if it has lots of ROMs/Kernels because that's the first thing I install once I got it.
Asked because, it's hard to find an H850 here. F700 and H860 is most common one but looking on the ROMs section H850 is almost always present on the titles.
Is H860 or F700 fine?
I don't think those have any roms at all - the other 2 besides H850 with some development are H830 and RS988 (or something like that?).

The only reason I want custom ROM/Kernel is undervolting and sometimes a little overclock if I feel like it is slow + getting rid of bloat apps. I find myself not really tinkering with phones anymore. The only root app I think I have next to my phone's kernel configuration app is Greenify.
How's the G5 experience? Does it last long compared to S7? or somehow equal?
I came from the S4, so no idea how it compares to the S7.
It's a great phone with nice specs, and hopefully development will get better once Oreo is out
well then I had an S4 too. How does it compare to that? I mean I came from s3 all the way to s5. Planning to buy S7 but thought to try something else. The only thing that attracts me to G5 is the camera if everything else is roughly equal to S7 or S4 or S5 I'll buy one.

There is no comparison to the S4 ... it's like comparing a spaceship to a chopper
It's much faster with everything and it doesn't have that Knox sh*t Samsung has
Development has been sloooooow lately, but I still have hope that it'll change with Oreo :fingers-crossed:

Faster, less bloated user experience than the s7.
Other than the wide angle lense coolness, i prefer the s7 camera, especially in low light.

Trying not to get biased here but seems like s7 is winning for everything else other than the camera (day time). Thank you for the feedback about your experience on both.
I came from S4 to.
Most durable phone I ever had.
If the sim reader still worked I wouldn't change and would probably have lineage 15 on it.
Any how
My 2 cents
S7 over g5
Amoled
Cooler design
Loads of roms, probably another 5 years of XDA community support
G5 over S7
Removable battery
No glass back
One of the best IPS LCD darks I've seen.
camera. Seriously, I bought my g5 because I found a crazy refurb deal on eBay and now I'm not willing to ever go back to a non wide angle lens phone.

End up buying S7 today because of the said S7 reasons.
I agree on you on those points you listed but you forgot one more on S7 which is longer battery life.
I bought the S7 Edge which has even more battery compared to S7.
I think I can live with S7's camera. It's decent... it's just that G5 has a better one, but I don't think the camera alone is worth it compared to the other Pros of S7.

LG G6 64gb Dual Sim or Samsung Galaxy s8 64gb Dual Sim?

Hey,
am about to buy a new phone and am a bit conflicted.
My main goal is actually to have a smaller phone and great battery life.
Would you rather buy the LG G6 or the Galaxy s8? I would like to hear it from ppl who use the G6 that's why I created this thread.
Thanks in advance!
as I've been told by some friends, battery life might suck on the s8 ( I'm pretty fine with the g6's battery atm ) and i can't find any comparison videos 'cause all of them are about the s8+ vs g6, not the regular one. if you're going for the s8+ and not the s8, that should be your go to phone. if I had the possibility, I would go for s8+, not the s8 nor g6.
This message is from g6 plus 128
S7 edge 32 is better than this thing
It aged much better. Has amazing support and much better value
So s8 of course is a better choice specially speed and updates
The thing is, it's hard for people to say which one's better, since most people only have one of them. But by looking at the spec sheet, the s8 wins. However, my experience with the g6 has been very pleasant, everything from battery life to the camera have been very good (except for software updates). So if you are going to buy the 64gb lg g6 (h870ds), keep two things in mind. You might have to wait until August to get oreo, and the h870ds variant isn't bootloader unlockable (meaning you can't root it).

Anyway thanks, but the s8+ is way too big, the g6 is already too big actually

For me it's too big to navigate like an iPhone 6 that I had in my hands.
Anyway I will sell my G6 as soon as it arrives, since not even bootloader unlocked. Gotta get the s8 I guess.
Thanks for the helps

Sorry being stupid but is Samsung and Knox better? Always thought Sammy would be a bad idea if you want a free device.

I will read again about it, but as far as Í can see at least the bootloader won't be locked on the dual sim models.
If you find a smaller alternative that looks good and has a similar CPU and good battery life + good custom ROM support, I would also buy that. So far only seen s8 in that direction
For anyone interested in a battery comparison: https://www.phonearena.com/reviews/LG-G6-Review_id4323/page/4
LG G6 is preferable only if you have expensive high impedance headphones. Otherwise for the same price S8 looks better.
I wouldn't buy Sammy where Xiaomi or Meizu offer same performance for half price.

S9 + International worth it??

Soo I was checking and I don't see much development for it at all? Is it worth switching to the rooted version of the phone?
If yes please let me know some good things to do with it.
I current have the tmobile USA version and I really miss the international s7 and s8. But I don't see much of any roms or anything for the s9.

Yes absolutely.
No device with a locked bootloader is worth having. If for no other reason just on principal lol.
Granted there are not a ton of roms for the exynos but compared with zero for snap..easy choice.
We have root, we have kernels, we have mods which you can only use rooted (sound boosting mod is great).
Not to mention dual sim capability which is handy.
Its a no brainer really
