Sony Z3v- How Do I Flash 5.0.2 FTF File? - Xperia Z3v General

Sony Z3v Lollipop FTF
As you may all know, the FTF for Android 5.0.2 is finally available for the sony Z3v. However, I have no idea how anyone is getting it installed. I have a non-rooted phone that is currently on the latest software version sent out by verizon. I have tried on both a mac and a pc using flashtool and the FTF file dowloaded from xperiablog, and I am unable to complete the process. Could anyone post detailed steps on how they upgraded theirs to lollipop. Would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

The above post is incorrect, unless you're trying to flash the pre-rooted package. You do not need root to flash the leaked ftf, just the flash tool. What do you mean you are "unable to complete the process?" That could mean many things and solutions. Are you getting errors or what?

Well, first you will need to download the previous version of the flashtool, i beleive 19.18.6 (uninstall the previous version and reinstall the older version).
Make sure you downloaded the FTF and place it in the firmware folder on PC, if it is mac is more complicated.
Open it up and begin the process before flashing, make sure you backed up any data as this will wipe everything.
Flash the file and begin patience.jpg.
Patience.jpg for 10 more minutes.
Tada!

The very first time I tried it, I got an error that had to do with the sin file. I forgot exactly what it said. However, all the following times it said error parsing TA 2 file (or folder), and it would say flashing aborted, and my phone would reboot and just go back to normal.

So I had issues using flashtool and flashing the ZIP file then I found out that you can boot to TWRP since its a dual recovery. After booting to TWRP install the pre-rooted ZIP just like a normal ZIP and viola!

you would need root for that. There seems to be some confusion between what files are what the unofficial lollipop pop update is the 23.1.D.0.485 ftf file, and that does not require root and must be installed with the flash tool.
The other file is is created FROM the ftf with the PRFcreator tool to make a flashable .zip, which MUST be flashed in recovery, and that does require root.

So basically, if I do not want to root my device, and it I cannot get flashtool to work, I am out of luck until when or if Verizon officially releases the update?

If you are on windows you have to install the drivers in the folder in the flail application. I got away with doing the first two, all the common drivers, and the one for Sony z3. If on windows 8, you have to restart the computer and go into advanced stirrings mode and find the option that allow other drivers to be installed. When you restart they should work.

So what the guy above said, you have to download the drivers. Depending on the device, windows 8 seems to have problems, theres a video on xda explaining the process.
ALSO WARNING BEWARE; MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED DONE. MY PHONE STARTED FLASHING AND DELETING ALL MY DATA THEN ABORTED. IF THIS HAPPENS JUST FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU DID WRONG THEN FLASH.

you just need to download flashtool 19.18.6 and the lollipop tft file (not the zip file)
flash the tft file with the flashtool 19.18.6 ( I ran it on windows 10 x64) no problem at all

I have tried installing it on widows ten and seven, both fail to run. Can anyone here please explain how to get this to work, a work around another software, or a link to someone that has done this! Thanks People!

I was able to get this to work last night using the 9.18.6 flashtool version last night. It works and I did not lose any data or apps. The phone is running better than ever. Once installed the flashtool has a button to go to xperifirm to get the latest FTF if you haven't already downloaded it. Here is the link: https://userscloud.com/kb6tr3bcuecr

for the painfully obvious questions, you dont need root or unlocked bootloader to flash this. Its not reccomended for GSM users to flash this as it is CDMA only (if wrong , correct me & i'll edit)

Yeah, I re-downloaded it and tried it again.
I'll run you through all the steps I took so you can point out anything I'm screwing up:
I put the .ftf file in the firmwares folder in the Flashtool directory, opened Flashtool, clicked the flash (lightning bolt) button, chose the file and then clicked OK.
I once again got Error flashing- aborted, and it didn't matter whether I had exclude system clicked or not (I tried it both ways).
I can't seem to find any documentation on using Flashtool with the Xperia Play or else I'd try to figure it out on my own. I've found three other XDA threads where people had this issue but the posts were ignored or unresolved. =/
Oh yeah, the SD card safe to remove thing is wholly unrelated to this issue. My SD card is dying and it just coincidentally occurred after trying this, lol. I just can't get this damned ftf file to flash lol

So after you click to flash the ftf file, with the phone off you are holding the back button while plugging in the USB?
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Yeah, that's the only way I can get the computer to recognize the phone. I hold the back button while connecting USB and get a green light on the phone's LED.
Should I be holding search and getting the blue light (like what I have to use for Fastboot)? The tutorial I read told me that green was good, but I can just as easily hold search and try it again (so long as it won't mess anything up).

SEUS tells me that the cellphone has the newest software.
When I start the cellphone it never goes further than to the "Sony Ericsson" startscreen. When i try to enter CW recovery it gives me a strange looking screen with green colors. How can I restore CW recovery and how can I install a kernel again?
Try flash stock rom by Seus, you can do it even if SEUS show you that you already have the newest software, and than root, install recovery, instal GB rom and than flash kernel
And remember to unlock bootloader before flash kernel!
Which kernels and rom did u flashed?

hi, i was flashing the same kernel onto my sisters x10 mini pro and when i went to flash i got the error before it allowed me to flash the kernel, i used PC companion to repair, located in the software update section once i did that, i just unlocked the bootloader and root. hope this helps you.
I have triede with pc companion, it will not let me update, and it is not possible for me to put the phone into USB debugging, because the phone do not startup. I realy hoped that someone other than me has had this error before. But when I google the error, it doesn't come up with much.

Hello, I just recovered a friend's phone from this problem. Nothing worked before but I found the solution, at least for me.
First I want to tell what I tried:
Flashing with PC Suite
Flashing with PC Companion
Flashing with FlashTool
Flashing with SETool Box 2
Nothing worked. Mainly because the dumbass of my friend tried to update latest version while it failed (don't know if battery problem, cable or whatever).
The problem is that it just hanged in "Sony Ericsson" screen and not recovery possible.
And when flashing I got:
ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed"
=== Now how I solved it ===
What I did is download the u20i1.6 binary fron XDA developers. It said it's a zip but it's just a RAR.
I had to uncompress it in a folder. And create a bundle with FlashTool with those files. I will try to upload this.
Then I flashed it. It worked without the error.
-------------------
- At the time of writing this. I upgraded the phone with the PC Companion but
- after updating the phone just got hanged again. It just flash red light when
- swithing on. I don't know why. Have to see.
- Update: Was not hanged I just had to force off (long press on the power button) and then on. The PC Companion finished updating.
- Update: Flashed last version and now SETool Box2 is not able to unlock. Better to stay on 2.X.

Soft Bricked SGP321 :(

Howdy All,
Was running on .244, was preparing to install CM10.2 but ran into a hiccup. Normally I'm pretty good at nutting this stuff out (5th android device that I've run roms etc on), but this has me stumped.
Flashed CM boot.img ok but CWM cannot see my internal SD or /data, CM will install but not boot. A quick google turned up this thread which didn't solve much, but pointed me to flashtool at least to get back to stock. I have .307 and .244 FTF's here but flashtool is not playing along.
Running win7 x64, flashtool drivers installed as they didn't previously work with standard drivers. ADB/Fastboot work fine. Have tried flashtool 0.9.11.0 and 0.9.10.2beta6 (supposed to also work with XTZ).
Flashtool gives me this:
09/049/2013 22:49:00 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
09/049/2013 22:49:00 - INFO - Opening device for R/W

09/049/2013 22:49:01 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
09/049/2013 22:49:01 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
If you want more info, please just let me know... but right now I'm pretty stuffed!

As you're trying to install a custom ROM, I assume your boot loader is unlocked. In that case, you could try the Sony flash tool, Emma.
See here : http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/.

So you have previouslyunlocked the bootloader? I believe Emma will only flash your device if the boot loader is unlocked.
The download is about 800 MB
You select and flash a "service" (stock ROM). NOTE ; Emma will only flash the latest ROM, even though the service name is the previous ROM

Yes it's unlocked, couldn't have flashed cm kernel otherwise It's installing latest rom now. Don't really care too much which version it installs... just so long as it boots! The rest can all be worked out later

It has Back to factory state so there's data loss, but that wasn't unexpected. My fault for not taking precautions and moving backups to PC etc. I'm just stoked right now because a couple of hours ago I had a very expensive paperweight and couldn't see a fix - now I have a working tablet again!
Thanks very much

Ha! Best product name ever tab is going happily now today, will probably attempt root tonight (bit harder now on .244 but we will see)... At least now I know a foolproof "get out of jail free" option.
Thanks again

Yeah all good this time and enjoying cm10.2 as soon as I was in recovery and it could see Sd contents I knew it was fine. Saw another person had the same problem a while back and ultimately worked after a reset - only difference being that flashtool worked for them.

If you have fastboot and flash mode it should be an easy fix
Did you back up the TA and unlock the bootloader?
finally got it fixed! what i did was flash the FTF of C6833 instead .. i found it it here. i had to uncheck exclude FOTO Kernal, and uncheck all WIPE data etc..
I've been trying to install the GPE lolipop port but keeps getting bricking it.. there aren't any step by step for this...

TWRP seems to have issues with @scrubbers port, I've not downloaded it to see what it's doing.
Did you unlock the bootloader - that is one sure fire way to have a 'soft brick'

I've stayed up all night researching .. i did have flashmode and fastboot but all FTF breaks when i try flashing it.
From my reading. it's best to download the ROM from sony and compile it.
i did that and flash the compiled rom and now my phone is back to the way it was before.

<-- That's my life saver.
@blueether , do you have to ROOT your phone and install Dual Recovery then flash the Boot.img to the phone before you install the GPE port? THanks alot friend

You will have to have an unlocked bootloader, and to save your DRM keys you will first want to do do a TA backup and that requires root. To flash the rom you only need the recovery/kernel that is packaged in the zip. you can flash that with flashtool or fastboot

The DRM keys are stored in the TA partition, this can be backed up with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
The TA partition should be intact if you haven't unlocked the bootloader
Back up TA Partition:
The TA partition is the "Trim Area". There are lots of things stored in here like root certs, revoked certs, DRM keys, current firmware version,... the list goes on. What we are concerned about here is with the DRM keys. Some service centres will not service a Sony device if these are missing. Unlocking the BL will erase these.
Once you lose these keys, you can't get them back, so backup the TA and upload it to your Dropbox etc
You will need Backup TA for Sony Xperia by @DevShaft Please read the thread.
Instructions:
Download the latest version of Backup TA.
Extract the ZIP file to a folder location of your choosing.
Navigate to the folder location of Backup TA.
Make sure no other script or application which is using ADB is running.
Make sure the device is booted in normal mode (the way you normally use it).
Run Backup-TA.bat
Read the last paragraph of the license before continuing.
Read the information and follow the instructions given by the tool.
Don't forget to make a donation or thank the OP in the original thread

Hi baodownnow,
Perhaps you can assist me with the same problem.
I have the same 6806 model, bricked mine attempting the same flash of Lollipop from Scrubber and am trying to unbrick mine now. I have tried the C6806 FTF's using the "XperiFirm" software you mentioned and it fails in the "FlashTool" too. I have downloaded the C6833 versions of FTF from "XperiFirm" and they fail as well. Which country/carrier version of C6833 did you use to get this to work? There's several to choose from but I used the international UK version even though I'm in the USA, California area.

I used the C6806 -> US -> 108 RC4
Make sure to not extract it.
Once you're donw, downoa the latest flashtool. .9.18.4
Click on Tools ->Bundle->Fileset Decrypt
from there you should create the FTF..
after that just flash normal.
thanks for the big help blueether.. unfortunately i've unlock bootloader before reading the DRM key backup. i've heard that with kitkat4.4 sony decide to enable x-reality regardless if it's lock or unlock. is that right?

Z5 Compact in a Bootloop after MM Update

Hello, I am worried about my phone, after the last minor Marshmallow update, My phone worked correctly for about 5 hours, then it shutted down, and when I turned it on, I found out it was in a Bootloop.
Had no new apps installed or even downloaded files from the Internet.
My phone is just 4 days old, so this have me worried.
Have looked for solutions online, but no option is working, even tried the Software Repair by Xperia Companion three times and is still in the Bootloop. Please can somebody help? It keeps just showing the Sony logo. No USB Debugging activated.
I have read also that Putting it in Recovery mode and doing a Hard Reset may help, but no button combination seems to put it in Recovery mode. I am Desperate.
Hey, don't worry - I'm sure we can fix this
First, install 5.1.1 using this method:
http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/126-sony-xperia-z5-compact-e5823
Do only point 2 ! (Also wipe all data during instalation via Flashtool)
Get back to me if this helped, try updating to 6.0 again after installing 5.1.1, if it bootloops again, just install 6.0 straight away. But please, install 5.1.1 first, I want to find out if it's a repeatable problem.

Yes, selected to wipe all data, and nothing seems to work.
Locked Bootloader and Unrooted .
Also tried with another FTF, and all of them throw the same error.
Are you sure that tfts were downloaded completely? Check the integrity of the file with Winrar or other archiving software.
Otherwise, I'm running out of ideas. If you have your warranty, try going with that since you've not violated the rules of the limited warranty by unlocking the bootloader/rooting.

At first i used 0.9.20.0, but then i read that this version was faulty and was causing the error; so i downloaded again 0.9.18.6 and it threw out the same error, so I quit with it, and will ask for a replacement.
