Open map links with google Map app and not Navigation on Gingerbread 2.3.6 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys, i have a little problem, how can i force android to open map links directly with google Map app and not Navigation on Gingerbread 2.3.6. I'm using the app Urban Ninja and when i click on a adress link he always opens with Navigation app and not Map app, anyone has an idea how to change this? Thank you very much

Go to Settings / Applications and find the Navigation app in the All tab and hit Clear Defaults and then go click on a link again. It should ask you which app to open in.

Thank you very much for your reply. I din't know why, but Navigation doesn't seem to be a standalone app, i can't find it in the apps list, i can neither set the default or even delete that app. Any ideas?

Just realized what exactly you were talking about... It has been so long since I used Gingerbread, I had forgotten that back in it's hey day, Google Maps had 2 separate components and the Navigation app (blue upside triangle type icon) is actually part of Maps. You should be able to update Maps through the Play Store to the newer version where it is all in one.

[Q] Remove app from Android Market 'My Library'

So I use the Amazon app store and GetJar for free 'paid' apps. Some of these apps are showing up in "My Library" on my Google Android Market account. Is there a way to remove them from the Android Market account?
One recent problem is Wave Launcher which used to be free on GetJar. I don't see it listed anymore on GetJar and I can't even buy it from the Android Market since it thinks it's already purchased (but declines the 'install' saying it's not purchased). A 'delete' button like in the Amazon app store library would solve all of this...
Short of changing google accounts, I don't see any options on how to fix this. Anyone have any ideas? The problem is on my market library, not my phone (I know how to remove market links, etc.). Thanks.
I to have this problem its very annoying their has to be a way to clean it up.
I actually used the 'report' app function on the google market and got a reply back. They have "forwarded your case to a specialist to begin working to resolve your issue as soon as possible". We'll see what comes of it. Amazon's app store has a simple delete button in that library. It doesn't seem like that would be too hard to implement.
did you ever get a reply for this?
would love to be able to remove all the apps i just simply try for the sake of testing and i want them gone.....
listen to your users G!
I believe Titanium Backup can do this if you are rooted.

You can "fix" market links with it by long pressing on the app in question.

On the website I don't see an option, but it is possible on your phone.
I am not sure if all versions of the play store have this option (I am using Jelly Bean 4.1.2):
When I open the play store on my phone I can remove previous installed apps from the list.
Go to: Play Store > My Apps > All
There you can remove an app by tapping the Ø icon

Yeahp. It works.
I deleted some yesterday on my mobile, but they were still on my web "Other apps in my library".
Today, I deleted some again and reloaded the webpage. They disappeared.
Thanks for the tip.
Ok, maybe it needs some time to sync. Great it works!

Yes, this is what I'm doing and it is taking me straight to Google Nav Beta...I want to use Navigon instead because it don't want to use data...you know how expensive the powers to be made data these days, and I travel alot for work...
On my xoom, it is exactly as you said and it will pop up an option to select the nav software.
I never set defaults on my Evo 3d so I don't know how to reverse it or anything...help?!
EDIT: Thanks for your reply though, appreciate it.
Try clearing google maps and/or google nav defaults in the android settings. This should allow you to select an option when you follow t3project's suggestion.

Could you tell me which device/android version you are using, please?
Did you get (about) the same dialogs as in the screenshots of Google Play?
So, when you selected "Car navigation" (or whatever it is in the english version), you are brought directly to Goggle Nav, right?

Hello, I have a Htc One X jelly bean, and I'm french, so do you?
It works sometimes when I set an itinary and click on the navigation button on the bottom, but most of the time it says to me that your application has crashed, and it brings me directly to ggogle nav when i click on the navigation option directly from the "Maps" menu.

Did you submit a report when the crashes occur? I don't see one...
I'm not sure what you mean by "the navigation option directly from the "Maps" menu", but anyway a destination must be selected, because it's the destination which is passed on to Navigon.
P.S. Je suis bruxellois

hi,
I will submit a report next time it will crash, but for the moment it works fine.
I was speeking about "navigation" shortcut in the main menu of Maps, it would be cool if I could have a navigon one, but it's already fine for me

Cool. As soon as I get a report, I'll be able to debug the crashes.

opening shared locations by other than maps?

Guys does anyone know to open shared locations from whatsapp using sygic or igo.
Earlier, my s2 gave me the luxury to choose any navigation app installed to open shared locations. However, now
with my S3 I'm stuck with maps. Please if anyone has an answer I would be grateful.

[APP] Old Google Maps & Navigation App

Hi
Having been frustrated by more recent versions of Google maps and losing the navigation icon from the drawer I have been constantly using the old Google Maps 6.14.4.
Problem was that Google Play was constantly offering to update it, annoyingly.
Titanium backup can detach apps from Play but it's not permanent.
I have now re signed the app and attach it here. I am using it with 4.4.2 kit kat and it's running fine. No update offers and no errors or FCs.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dttm1vnwzrzqbog/Maps_6.14.4a.apk
Please give it a try.
If you have Maps installed you will need to use titanium backup to uninstall it before installing this version. Otherwise this will just not install.
I hope someone finds it useful...

I don't like the navigation function in the maps myself. What is this old way with navi you speak of? I am curious.
The old version here has the added icon for navigation. It is a blue arrow like icon in the app drawer.
Using this icon you have a number of options. One of these is the option to go to the map. It is in the upper right side the screen. Selecting this will take you initially a 2d map. You can then select to have the traffic layer displayed.
As soon as you start driving the 2d map will change to 3d just like a normal sat nav with the benefit of having traffic.
The new versions of Google maps require you to have a destination set in navigation before you have 3d with traffic.
When I drive to work each day I don't need to be navigated there but I need to see how the traffic is. I travel 30 miles around the London orbital every day to work!

I remeber that there was a version which had a different signature, and thus you could install it alongside with current version of google maps.
Can you reupload it please if possible?

Thanks.
I used an apk that I pulled from another Xda thread. It is named something other than Google and works perfectly. Same as 6.14.1
Will post as soon as I figure out how.

Question Help with Google news feed

Hey everyone. I wasn't able to find a fix online so I figured I'd ask the experts on XDA.
Issue: 1- When I click on an article on my Google feed nothing happens.
2- When I use Google search and click one of the results nothing happens.
Chrome works, Samsung Internet works, and Edge works.
What I've tried: Deleting the storage on the Google app. No dice.
I don't have the same issue on my old S22 Ultra or my Tab S7 Plus.
Has anyone seen this before?
Any help would be appreciated.
Shot in the dark, but do you maybe not have a default internet browser selected? Or did it default to something else somehow that can't open a link? Can you open links from other apps? You could install duckduckgo and see if it'll open in that one maybe.
I would just uninstall Chrome and Google News and just start over.

No dice. But I love duckduckgo thanks for recommending it.
Google news do not use external browser sadly, it needs webview. Try to clear the cache and data from webview app or update it.

My Google News app works just fine. It's the feed all the way to the left of my launcher that's messed up. Is that what you mean?

I literally had this myself for a week, then yesterday it suddenly started to work. When it first began I tried all the recommended stuff like clearing caches and so on, but nothing helped. I wish I could help but I myself am baffled as to how it came to work again.

What if you try to access it from Chrome homescreen ? Under the search bar, there's a "Discover" section which practically is a Google Feed. Does it work ?
Have you tried updating Google App & Android Webview manually ?
Have you allow all permissions for Google app ?

I stand corrected I lied I hadn't updated the Google App. Thought I had but I have the beta. I updated it and now it works as expected. Thanks a million. You really made my day.
