Google fi - Nexus 6P General

Not sure if this has been posted yet but I just spoke to a customer care representative and they told me that the sim cards that were previously released won't work in the 6p and 5x, they said the new cards on the site are designed to work with both, not sure how well informed they are and iv seen videos of the sim working without switching in other phones already, just thought this was interesting and wanted to share

Yes this has been announced in the Fi Google+ community and Fi subreddit. It's good you put the info here too though because not everyone visits those.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

Wait. So I accept the sim invite invite on sept 29 after I orderered the 6p from Google store. But at that time it still days only nexus 6, do I just said I already had the nexus 6. Are you saying this sim won't work now I the new 6p?

If you have a Nexus 6, its sim won't work in the new 6P (or 5X). If you ordered your 6P from Fi, you'll get a new sim card with it. If you ordered it through the GS, you'll need to order a new sim from Fi. If you order a sim from Fi right now, it will likely show delivery in the last week of October. This means it's the new sim, which will work. However, if it lists a much earlier delivery date for some reason, you'll probably have to contact them, because that's likely the wrong sim. Clear as mud, right?
Incidentally, the address to order a new sim from Fi is: http://fi.google.com/order-sim

This is good information to know thanks! I'll be sure to order a new SIM now because I got the 6P from the google store!
Edit*
Can confirm to go to http://fi.google.com/order-sim and order a new SIM if you are currently on Fi.
This is the reply I got when I inquired about ordering a new SIM card for the 6P:
"All the SIM kits that we sell this day forward are going to be the new nano-SIM cards and they are backwards compatible, so they will also work with the Nexus 6. This is a pre-order with the SIM so it may take a few weeks before it is shipped out. You should get it about the same time as the Nexus 6p as this is a pre-order item as well. I hope this helped answer your question fully and let me know if you have any issues when placing the order for the SIM."
I ordered and the delivery date is October 28th - November 2nd. Just like my 6P so she wasn't lying!

You reply makes more sense than the one I got.
Thank you for contacting Project Fi Support! It was great speaking with you today about wanting to know if you would be able to use your old SIM card with the new Nexus 6P, and the answer is you would need to order a new SIM Kit for the new Nexus 5X & 6Pfrom our website: fi.google.com/order-sim the website is currently being updated for ordering SIM Kits for the new Nexus devices, please check back periodically for the option to select your device SIM Kit.
Basically, the agent I had told me the website was waiting for an update so you would be able to select the device you were ordering the sim for.

Yeah, (this is kinda pointless here) but if you only need one for the original 6 you can contact support and they can manually ship u a original

[Q] Phones from Three UK

Morning all
I'm currently with 3 on their One Plan sim only. I want to pick up an Xperia S and have seen that they do it on PAYG for £369. This is very tempting as a way of getting the phone without increasing my bill or locking me into a long contract again, only requiring me to swap my sim for a micro one.
Couple of questions.
1) Has anyone got one from 3, if so, is it locked to their network and preloaded with any network specific apps? I'm happy to debrand it out the box if so and then worry about unlocking another time.
2) Do you think it'd be feasible to go into the shop and buy the handset on PAYG and at the same time ask them to swap my contract sim for a micro one (I've heard they can do it in the shop there and then)?
If all else fails I can order one online and process the sim swap through customer support and wait the few days for things to move round.
i signed up to xda's lengthy tedious sign up process just to help you out mate
apparently the 3 payg is unlocked and doesn't have any branding but sometimes it could depend on the batch
however with o2 pay monthly it is more likely to be branded than unbranded, again depending on the batch. The branding is minimal just start up screen really. SIM unlocking is not a problem on pay monthly phones.
anyway the reason im telling you this is that you can buy the phone on o2 for 225 if you want but only soon
here is the process
Step 1 order 13.50pm 24m contract with phone for 79.99 from o2 site via Quidco and receive phone the day after
Step 2 cancel 3/m bolt on immediately after you get your o2 login bringing price down to 10.50pm
Step 3 get 4 extra free smart tags from sony using sony-promotions.com/experia
Step 4 Unlock simlock for free by filling out o2 form or phoning them, (you will need to have put new o2 sim in phone first)
Step 5 Order giffgaff sim card or use your 3 sim
Step 6 receive quidco cashback of 110 and immediately Pay off remaining 02 contract
Use *#*#7378423#*#* to check if your bootloader can be unlocked, currently mine cant but my sim is still locked until tomorrow..ill update you if the bootloader can be unlocked too after unlocking the network simlock
i hope this helps
Many thanks
Sounds like a safe bet for 3 then. At most a quick flash to a UK generic and then wait for ICS which going by Sony's recent record with bringing beta updates to the previous lines looks like they should stay on target for Q2 and provide reasonable support beyond the launch period.
Roll on pay day and new shiney things to play with ;-)
My 3 handset is both bootloader and sim locked. This doesn't bother me as I'll debrand it and unlock it if need be in the future. The only thing (as far as I know) that 3 have added is a few widgets and a boot screen.
I have no idea if debranding is a much of a pita as with htc handsets but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, and keep reading this forum.
You can get a sim cutter to size your sim for a few quid off eBay or even use a pair of scissors and a free microsim as a template
Thanks launton.
I remember doing my Hero and that was fairly straight forward using the goldcard method.
The one that was a pain for me was my old SE P990 as it involved swapping some files on the fly as it backed up and then updated the firmware - made even more difficult by the fact I had XP64 on my PC at the time which meant I had to do it all inside a 32bit virtual machine and hope that as the phone disconnected and reconnected itself on the USB that it stayed attached to the VM
From what I briefly read in the development section it's a case of feeding the right firmware to Sony's PC software and crossing your fingers for a few minutes.
i played with the xperia s in the three store and it has the 3 logo on startup and shutdown i think.
just to let you know.
Hello. I work for ThreeUK and to be honest it depends on how long you are willing to have the handset. If you can splash out the £384.99. If not its only an extra £9.00 a month atm with 1000mins or £12 more for the same plan (9 x 24 = 216) (12 x 24 = 288)
You can get a replacement micro usim for free in store which will activate in under 24h.
The 1st batch we received were generic but I believe we are now rolling out branded handsets (three store widget and app)
Customer service will unlock the phone for £15.32 which can be added to you bill.
If you decided that 2000mins is to much then move to ye Sim600 12 month sim plan for £15.00 (600mins, 3000texts all you can eat data) saving you £120 over 12 months taking the time the phone £264.99
Hope it helps

Very helpful H88RRY :-D
The One Plan's the only realistic option for me as tethering is pretty essential. I am a very high data user, often preferring my phone's connection to my friends/relatives snail speed net connections. I'm very happy with and recommending of 3's service so far.
I've kept my last two phones for 12-18 months before looking for the next interesting thing while being able to get a reasonable amount back for the previous handset.
I might order the handset PAYG online as I found I can get nectar or maximiles points through their respective sites
I take it there's no discount offered to someone that's just reached the three month upgrade period when changing over to a long term contract or no option to pay something towards the handset in order to keep the monthly cost down?
Not really no. The value of three tariffs are already market leading and the company makes little profit from the handsets as it is. Being staff we don't get any discounts on contracts either

Will be popping in to my local Three store on the way to work tomorrow night if I remember to grab an Xperia.
Had a quick look at someone's at work and it's a lovely screen I must say but definitely in need of a good solid case (come on Otterbox, do your magic).
I have a couple of the Nillkin offerings on order from China via eBay so they'll take a week or so usually.
Does anyone know if the ones currently stocked by Three come with a case?
If not do the Three stores sell reasonably cheap generic cases for the time being or the official Sony pouch?
edit: I just realised this'll be the first phone I've bought in a shop since my old SE T310 - blimey.
On amazon it's £387 if you can wait to get it delivered... It's an unbranded handset.

£369 on PAYG from 3
And I'm in a new toy kind of mood
Not too bothered if it's branded as that seems to be a fairly straight forward affair with android in general and only really something I worry about if updates start getting delayed or forgotten entirely.
If someone could let me know about case availability in the Three stores that would be great. There should be a few other places near my local store where I could pick something up if not.
Ye I couldn't wait either payed £429 for mine from Carphonewarehouse... As for cases I don't think there are any in the ships yet except those cheap gel ones.
About cases. We currently have no suitable cases for the Xperia. We have a leather pouch case that's made for the desire HD but that's the only thing that will fit
Yes it's £369.99 but it does need to be bought with a £15 sim so total is actually £384.99 but still an amazing prices.
I work in Stratford Westfield if anyone wants to pop in n Play

Just spotted that on the site. Think I'll go for that.
Just want to chip in here, three is fantastic as a rule. I'm having issues at the moment but they are aware and it will be corrected shortly. Data speed is brilliant too. I use mostly data.
My phone was free on a 34 quid contract. Bootloader is locked, damn lol, but other than a bootscreen it had no branding.

[Q] Unlocking SIM card for the 3rd time, IMEI woes

Hi all,
In August 2013, I bought a T-mobile HTC One and I was able to get it unlocked fairly easily using htcimeiunlock.com
In December 2013, I had to send it in for repairs and it received it wiped from the factory. The IMEI number had changed so I used the same service again and it worked flawlessly.
Now in July 2014, I had to send it in for repairs, again wiped from the factory and the IMEI number is different. I tried using the service but then it failed to work for me. Could it be the algorithm has changed and T-mobile is cracking down on this type of thing? Or is my IMEI so brand new that there is no code for it yet and I have to wait a few weeks until someone generates one.
I am hoping someone knows the answer as I continue to pay for a non-Tmobile voice/data plan that I can't use =(

Search Google for HTC Sim unlock and you will find a host of answers. One is this from the Play Store. If you have paid off your phone with T-Mobile you can get the code directly from them.

Yeah, the first thing I did was Google search and the results are overwhelming. Also a lot of them require your pay upfront before you can find out whether or not they can unlock. Was hoping for a better feedback than lmgtfy.

Nexus 9 on Verizon

I know it has the radios, but has anyone been able to activate it on Verizon? They couldn't do it for me directly, so we tried activating a different tablet, cutting down the SIM, and sticking it into the 9. No dice...the cut SIM works fine in my Droid Maxx so I know it's not the the cut SIM, and the number shows up in my "about tablet" so the sim is being recognized, but there's no service.
Anyone have any luck yet and/or suggestions?

I sell Verizon, had my first customers come in with these tablets and tried the same thing (activated the SIM in an iPad). SIM in the Nexus will read the IMEI, but it shows NO network signal. On the phone with tier two tech support right now. Will report back when I have an answer!

My customer couldn't stick around long enough today for me to continue to trouble shoot. I'm going to continue on Monday when they get back from their Christmas travels! I'll for sure let you know whatever I'm able to solve as soon as I'm able to solve it! For sure not just you... I was worried for them as well, but didn't figure that the odds of TWO brand new tablets having the exact same issue, especially not when you say the same thing!
On a side note, I cannot WAIT to get my own one of these bad boys!

also my radio state is off and cant seem to be able to turn it on. did htc/google fuk something [email protected]?!?!?!
also any reason why factory image is missing modem from all of the files??!??
this thread is of great interest to me. Since this will really determine if I get a N9 LTE.
Also find the troubles interesting since a simple sim card swap worked with the N7 and is currently working with the N6.
I know Verizon won't do anything officially but doesn't stop us from getting our 6's running.

btw opened a case with google see if they know anything with verizon.
Looking into your account, I saw that you had contact support previously today (Case: 9-41030000*****) in regards to being unable to activate your Nexus 9 LTE tablet with Verizon. I wanted to let you know that your case has been escalated to the next tier of support and is currently being reviewed. You can expect a reply by email from either the previous agent or the Specialist who has reviewed your case, within the next 1 - 2 business days.
Thanks,

Actually didn't go to Walmart trying to use the Sim card which came from my nexus 6
And connected. 30$ is spent.. I guess I'll get to test them again.. But at home just like when I left them getting 2g
Glad I sparked interest in this...I'm confident now I'll get this figured out one way or the other now that xda members are on it lol.
FYI, someone just mentioned it seems like their radio state is off. I noticed this too...i installed the 4G switcher app just to see if I could get more info from it, and it defaults that the radio state is off.
I did get it to seem to turn on once or twice but it didn't actually do anything.
I'm just hoping this isn't something stupid where verizon has decided not to sell the nexus 9 so they are blocking it from their network.
I used this app to dial *#*#4636#*#* to access the radio when it was off. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modoohut.dialer
Google Play Chat
Figured I'd try to chat with someone from Google...they don't know of any reason why the device shouldn't work on Verizon. Here's the transcript - http://pastebin.com/ZuhwvnAY

Yea the 4G switcher app gives the exact same info, and same thing showed when I tried what you did...seems like the radio is turned off, and it won't turn on.
My first thought is maybe google has the devices deactivating the radio when it detects Verizon but then they would have done the same with the 6 one would think.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I think the device needs an update to work .. Would be good if someone on sprint try it too

Well the Google Play support guy says there's nothing on their end that he's aware of for why it wouldn't work on Verizon...I wouldn't see Google doing that, but I COULD see Verizon doing it haha.
One thing I am holding onto is that I ordered this the day it went on sale on the Play Store, so its just possible Verizon hasn't done something it needs to do to allow the connection. Its all conjecture for now though lol.

Legit Note 3 activation on Boost

So....
I got bored & decided to try getting my Note 3 activated on Boost.
To my surprise, they're willing to activate it.
First off, My MEID is clean, so I figured I'd have a chance.
the rep I spoke with tried several times to send me to a store( we ALL seen that coming), so I asked for a Supervisor.
after speaking with a Supervisor, he informed me that they would need 72 hrs due to the Holidays to verify my MEID & status with Sprint.
He also told me that they would send out a compatible ICCID card as well.
I'm on my way to a store to see if I can get it done today.
here a list of allow phones I came across for anyone eles looking to give it a shot
Here's a handy table listing which recent Sprint phones allowed and which are blacklisted and when the 12 month blacklist ban is expected to expire.

Very cool. Keep me informed. Would like to know how it goes.
Yeah. So did you get it going on Boost? Everything working LTE and all?
After all this time....its done.
Boost now allows the Note 3 without flashing.
No 4G yet, since I dont have my original UICC sim.
I'll call boost tomorrow & get them to send me one, or try Sprint for a replacement.
on another note (hahaha), I may have figured out why 4g flashing never worked for the Note.
Alot of us tried 4g donors, but I found out that the UICC cards from the donors are incompatible with the Note 3 (I tried a Desire 510 & a lg tribute).
So instead of activating the donor card, try activating the card in the Note with your donor.
On Boost & On the Latest firmware
I'm OFFICIALLY on Boost with 4G & running nh7 modem.
I'm updating to OC5 now, so feel free to ask if you have questions
J_apa_n you care to share what you did to get all this going on boost? Interested in getting on going with 4G too.
My Meid is clean, so Boost activated it.
they will tell you to go into a Boost Mobile retailer for a re-sku.
If your Meid is bad, you'll need to do he usual.
the thing that stopped 4g with a flash was the donor's we were using.

Is there a difference between handset SIMs and tablet SIMs?

Looking to get a second z3V. I have a number associated with my z2 Verizon tablet, but I swapped it on my account (the number) with my old iPhone s4,which I use at work (operating a backhoe). Since the traveler is not being used on my verizon account, can I simply put the SIM card from it into the 2ND z3V?
The cards are the same size BUT they are a slightly different gold pad contact mapping.
If the answer is no, would Verizon give me a SIM card for the phone purchased on Amazon?
Why a second Z3v on the Verizon network?

I have two phones; my z3v, which I use only after work and it doesn't have a scratch or mark on it, and my iPhone 4s that I carry at work where I usually have dirty hands whilest using it. The iPhone 4s has endured well but at lunch time I would like the functionality of the z3V. But I don't want to ruin it with gritty fingers in a crappy environment.
Currently only family & friends have my z3v number. The 4s number is my older number and has business and billing associated with it. I want another z3V that I can use as a work phone (maybe).
Soon I can renew a separate plan using that same number and pay for it associating my tax ID number with it.
I'd love to have a phone with two different accounts and numbers on it! One for personal and one for business...
Alright, screw it! I bought a SmartWatch. The Asus Zenwatch 2, which has a speaker in it for doing calls (once Google rolls out the update that will bring that functionality). It was only a buck-fifty shipped, and the only other SW that has a speaker in it currently marketed is the $400 Huawei.
The NIB z3V will go into a drawer for future use, and I'll do my best not to wreck my new toy at work.
Goin' full-out geek!
Second z3V came today. Realized that when I bought my z2 tablet I used an upgrade from the number the old iPhone was on (my work phone) to get it at a decent price. I promptly went home and swapped the number back to the iPhone because I never really needed or wanted a number associated with the z2 tablet. That means I still have a full contract with that number, so I'm going to retire the iPhone and use the new z3V afterall.
Question; After I root and upgrade the new z3V, complete with recovery, can I simply take a saved recovery from my old phone and effectively clone the new one (besides the number) by copying it to the new phones SD card and recovering to it? Or is there to much individual phone specific data to do that?

Question; After I root and upgrade the new z3V, complete with recovery, can I simply take a saved recovery from my old phone and effectively clone the new one (besides the number) by copying it to the new phones SD card and recovering to it? Or is there to much individual phone specific data to do that?

Yes, you can definitely do that I believe. When I was testing out custom ROMs for the first time with Zach, he didn't have ZIP files made but rather just allow me to restore the System part. It worked for me. lol
