rooted fire os 5 updated to a new fire os 5.0.1 how to revert back - Fire HD 6 and 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys 1 month ago i had fire os 5 with xposed , play store , hdxposed it was rooted it was the july 2015 dev build it was from "ariel" when i booted my kindle up it said welcome to fire os 5 i clicked cancel because i already had and i was greeted to a new homescreen i tried google play store it said you need a google play account
but i didnt know how to fill in i tried a rooted program "game guardian" is said no root pls help me how do i revert back

You skipped the step to block OTA updates when you rooted. You can't "revert back." See this thread. At this time, we have no method to install lollipop on OS versions above 4.5.3. You may be able to get rooted 4.5.5, but I'm not sure it will work. Far as I know no one has tried it since the bricking started.
BTW. When did you get the upgrade?

[Q] What am I supposed to do? 4.1.1 got installed!

My brother has a KFHDX 7", I had rooted it and disabled OTA back when he first got it last December, but suddenly a couple of days ago Amazon forced its new update 4.1.1 in my brother's tablet. I was planning to flash Gapps and stuff (as a matter of fact I posted another Q there about it, which has been left unanswered) but now I don't even have root. The custom launcher I'd installed though is still there and is the launcher it uses when I press the home button, so at least that's good (unless the newer Kindles let you do this anyway). So please help me out? Can I somehow downgrade it? If I brick it is there a way to get it fixed? Can I root it in its current version perhaps?
You cannot downgrade and root.

Has anyone received thus OTA yet? Google posted the images for 5.1.1 online 29 days ago, but I haven't received it yet.

Where did you email? I called them and got double-talk. So, I'll email them. It probably takes X number of calls/emails from disappointed customers before they bother to look into it.
I never got 5.02. When I initially booted the device last December, it automatically OTA'd 5.01. I was hoping I'd get an OTA that would take from to 5.1.1 from 5.01.

Guys, this is XDA. It's pretty easy to update yourself with the factory image. No need for the ota. Just flash the bootloader, system and boot images. No lose of data either.

No loss of data assume the bootloader is already unlocked. In my case, it's still locked. Obviously, I can back up everything and flash, but part of the reason for buying a Nexus device includes prompt OTAs.
The device downloaded and installed 5.0.2 without a hitch. On reboot, it downloaded the 5.1.1 OTA, but errored on installation. I cleared the cache, rebooted and it repeated the process with the same error result. Nexus tech support, when they hear OTA, pretty much say "we know nothing."
So, I'll backup the device as best I can, do a factory reset and try the OTA again.
Now, I can unlock the device and ADB the images manually. Why not do so? You'd have to be married to understand. This is my wife's tablet. If I unlock the bootloader or root it or do anything other than "normal" Google stuff and anything ever goes amiss, my lovely wife will complain that my tinkering has caused her Candy Crush and Facebook to malfunction.

[CLOSED] Testing Complete for new Safestrap Version

I have been working on a new version of Safestrap. This aims to allow devices that aren't unlockable and running update-kindle-xx.4.5.2_user_452004120 to install HDX Nexus ROM v4.xx.
I am looking for a Thor and Apollo tester to confirm that they can indeed install Nexus ROM v4 with this.
I have confidence that this works, but if you agree to do this please understand as usual that you do so at your own risk.
So far the new version has been tested on unlocked devices to confirm compatibility and works fine.
The next stage is to test on locked devices, which as I have said have high confidence that it will work.
The prerequisites for test are:
- Must be running stock update-kindle-xx.4.5.2_user_452004120 firmware
- Must be rooted
Things to be aware of with the new version:
- Secondary slots boot, but the WiFi module does not load
- Since the secondary slots work but have no WiFi, you will need to flash Nexus v4 to the stock slot
Let me know if are interested in helping with this.

Congrats!! Rolled the dice and won!
Be mighty careful around the 4.5.2 update. Those who received it via OTA (may have been 4.5.3/4.5.4) were treated to a hard brick with no known resolution. Best do the update manually using the procedure/files outlined in this thread. Stay off wifi until 4.5.2 upgrade is complete.

my device had no safestrap but it was rooted decided to let it auto update so turned on wifi and checked for update. the update centre said no update found, so went and downloaded 4.5.2 from amazon that was taking a lot longer than it should. checked the update center again. a glitchy 4.1.1 was downloading with the download bar glitching from view. i then let it continue pausing 4.5.2 download it then promptly rebooted and attempted to install 4.1.1 the screen went black through the update. hard brick.. i have my warranty and i have another one coming.
here's a tip don't update to 4.1.1 if you are rooted.
hoping to get a kindle with <3.2.6 my first one was originally that <version

For the benefit of others ...
NEVER take an OTA update on 3.2.8. Every reported incident has resulted in a hard brick. Keep WiFi off until OTA is blocked. The only effective method is via HDX toolkit. Renaming otacerts won't work on 3.2.8.
@ggow Any idea when this version will be released for Thor or if I could help test it? It would be awesome to have 4.5.2 with Safestrap.

Two critical questions:
- what version of Safestrap is currently installed (v3 or v4)?
- what ROMs and versions are/were installed in the stock slot and slots 1 & 2?
Be aware that rooting the device may have destroyed the ability to receive OTA updates. At present that is the only way to receive FireOS 4.5.4 short of rolling your own flashable update which is not for the faint of heart. Third gen devices do not have the ability to install or even refresh FireOS via stock recovery; OTA is the only way to receive updates (thanks, Amazon).

- boot into FireOS (stock slot)
- reinstall Safestrap apk from here (important: be sure to use the correct build for your device)
- boot into Safestrap recovery
- verify slot 2 (and 1 if it exists) has been DELETED
- reboot into FireOS
- launch Safestrap app
- from within Safestrap app delete Safestrap recovery (likely the part you forgot to do before)
- exit Safestrap app
- reboot device; it should now go straight to FireOS without displaying Safestrap 'robot' prompt
- delete Safestrap app
Congratulations! You are now on pure FireOS.

SafeStrap app will reinstall regardless of root status. However, you will not be able to remove Safestrap Recovery if the host ROM (presumably FireOS 4.5.2 or 4.5.5.1) is not rooted. KingRoot is the only reliable method for rooting most versions of FireOS including those mentioned above.
OTA status is uncertain give previous update attempt. However, an 'official' update likely will not be processed with SafeStrap v4 recovery installed and may trigger a bootloop.
You may have to abandon efforts to restore stock FireOS environment...

Yep - common occurrence once rooted. Unfortunately, restoring pure stock is nearly impossible. You could install a vulnerable bootloader and TWRP (both fairly easy) and flash a customized build of FireOS 4.5.2 which is the latest available as of this writing. Still doesn't provide a path to 4.5.4 but likely close enough.

No difference. I did not know what version you currently have and referenced 4.5.2 as the highest flashable build available given 4.5.4 was the stated goal.
To the best of my knowledge there are no functional difference between 4.5.2 and 4.5.4; only minor security updates.

Factory reset only removes personal data; operating system (FireOS) remains untouched. 3rd gen HDX devices are EOL - there won't be any further updates beyond the occational security patch.

Yikes - sorry I didn't think of that and led you down a merry path of misinformation based on experiences from others. Yes, signing into Amazon is an OTA enabler albeit not always a prerequisite. I have seen updates take place without registering with Amazon (often to the dismay of the device owner!) and no OTA activity until signed in. Appears your device fell into the latter category. Not sure what all of the behind-the-scenes triggers are.
Most important, you got the FireOS updates you were seeking. Glad it all worked out. Enjoy your refreshed device!

march update

has anyone lost root updating to current this month? i know my v10 became an ad filled, stock navbar, paper weight after it's last forced update.
I'm curious about this as well.
I finally got around to rooting my Stylo 3 Plus for the first time over the weekend, after closely following the developments in this forum for the past 6 months. It took a lot of trial and error and reflashing of TWRP before I got the timing down right, but I finally got it rooted (using Magisk 15.2).
And of course, luck would have it that within a few hours of my rooting success, a new system update notification (which I had never heard of until now!), pops up and asks me to restart to install it. I am using Titanium Backup to force stop the particular Google service involved, which makes the notification go away and I can reboot without it upgrading. But it always come back within 24 hours or so.
Has anyone installed this update yet (MP45010f) and successfully re-rooted? I'm currently using Magisk 15.2 with systemless hosts, Ad-Away, and Xposed with Greenify & MinMinGuard enabled. I would welcome any advice on how to proceed after the update to restore root and continue using Ad-Away, Xposed, etc. Or even how to disable the update notification for good so I can stay on MP45010e a while longer.

I Installed the 10f update.
On the download page the date was listed as March something.
While updating with LG Bridge, it was listed as Feb 22.
After it was installed (update 10f for LGMP450) the security patch date was listed as Feb 01.
I rooted and installed TWRP (and removed RCTD). Everything seems fine.
I am reverting back to my old install. Because i have made a million little tweaks, that would take forever to redo on a new install. I just wanted to see if everything still works (and it appears it does).
PS - The first time i updated this phone (back around Oct2017) the LG Bridge erased my SD storage. This time it left all of my installed apps in place. Also, this appears to simply be a google security update. No firmware changes from LG.
I thought a system update wouldn't happen if youv done rooted your phone the only way back on the day was to reflash stock ROM to get the update

if you update using the LG Bridge computer program, it will update a rooted phone. but you will need to reroot afterward.

Thanks for testing this out. If you don't mind me asking, which method do you use to root? And do you also use Xposed?
To anyone else who might know, does everything Magisk- or Xposed-related get removed by the security updates (frameworks, modules, configs, etc)? Just trying to get an idea how many of my modules I should expect to reinstall and configure from scratch if I decide to update from 10e to 10f.

Yeah, I thought this was kind of weird too. I've never used LG Bridge to update. The notification just appeared on my phone shortly after rooting.
Is Xposed only for Magisk or can it be used on the rom, if so can I get a link to how to do so

I have not run into any issues.
It appears to simply be a security patch update.
I doubt it should cause any new headaches.
The original method still works to reroot and reinstall TWRP.
Using the LG Bridge program is about as easy as an update can be. You install it on your computer, plug your phone into the computer, and click "update" on the computer program. Its all automatic.
