[Q] Transfer suggestions (from Z1C to Z5C) - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
Can anyone give me any hints on what is the best option to transfer my data?
I usually have always used TiBackup because i went from rooted phone to rooted phone.
The Z1C is BL unlock and rooted Kitkat Version 14.3.A.0.757. I have played around with Backup and restore and for some reason it fails to make a backup on the Z1C for me although there is enough space in both internal and SD card. It just fails, maybe due to root.
Then I installed PC Companion and tried to backup from there to no avail. It keeps bugging me to update the old phone. Maybe this is why that fails.
Then I tried the direct Transfer Option (phone to phone) which seems to get as far as the phones connection. Then the receiving phone (Z3c) goes into a loop as it supposedly looking for content on the Z1C to select and transfer. This takes ages, so I believe it might fail, although I am still waiting for it.
Is there any program that is capable of creating a backup file on a rooted phone which is completely installable on a non-rooter? Including data and settings etc.?
Has anyone handled this issue before?
I am scared to try and just update the Z1C as the Companion keeps suggesting for losing root on that phone would suck and I am not sure how hard it is to get that back...

I tried adb backup.
It worked reasonably but some issues..
No comparison to titanium backup..

i had good experience using Helium when i transfered my apps&data from my old phone to the z5c. I bought the full version since direct transfers between the devices seemed to very convenient thing for me.

[Q] please help ! Pc cannot detect LG optimus one

Hi
I had rooted my LG Optimus one and had deleted some applications with Titanium backup.
Now when i attach my phone to any computer it is not getting detected. i tried resetting the phone to factor default, reloaded drivers and LG pc suite . tried almost everything possible.
It is not even going into usb mass storage mode. The device manager on PC too does not detect any usb conection happening. Everything else on the phone is working fine.
Is that any usb related module on the phone got accidently deleted ?
Whats the possible solution now ?
Have you checked the USB-MASS STORAGE option in SETTINGS-> SDCARD & PHONE STORAGE SETTINGS ?
yes
yes i have done everything . selected mass usb storage too..
the problem is that no PC even detects a USB connection happening when i attach the phone
This happened to me twice now... I just sent it in to the LG service center. The tech guy said he did a "software update" which I took to mean reflashing the original ROM all over again.
I recommend doing a KDZ update if possible then install custom recovery and do a nandroid backup so you will always have a failsafe.
Dont take my word for it yet though... Hopefully someone else can enlighten us. I now use the void custom ROM so that there will be no unnecessary apps on my phone ^_^
Dear all, can any body tell me how much space is required on sd for nandroid backup?
I have limited space on stock sd card.

IIRC, around <500 MB. Each backup you make wont overwrite the last one so watch how many you make. But this is actually a good thing. And each backup type you make (nand, nand + android secure, etc.) also makes its own folder.
Backup and try to restore first to see if it works (backing up the nand+anything else didnt work for me).
Thanks a lot. I believe I'll have to delete some files on sd. And after that I can make a nandroid backup. I also feel we can copy the backup to pc and can use it later if need arises?

I believe so as long as it is in the correct folder where you found it.
What I feared for my phone before was that I cannot do a KDZ update because the PC wouldnt see my phone and I did not have custom recovery installed (nor a backup obviously...). Thats why I sent it to the service center...
When I got it back, I didnt abuse my phone as much (used it for call and text only) until I was finally able to install custom recovery ^_^
Important update
Hi guys
I had gone to the LG service station. Got my phone re-flashed with the latest firmware V10C . But the PC still can't detect the phone .
Now LG is giving me a new handset in exchange. They say its some problem with the hardware.

Transfer game data from Desire Z to new S3?

so i got the s3 two nights ago (eep!:highfive
and i want to transfer all my game data (ie, saves) over from my Desire Z.
contacts, sms, photos etc arent a problem.
its just the games! well, not just any games, the kairosoft ones. i dont want too lose all my hard work on those little things!!
anyone able to help?
neither device is rooted
Desire Z is running 2.3.3 (stock)
S3 is running 4.0.4
i tried using a program via pc called "wondershare mobilego for android" but it didnt transfer the saved games. same with "moborobo" (it has the option, but only for rooted devices!)
i also tried transferring via sd card, and that didnt work either D=
i was told mybackup pro would work - fail
i've seen many people suggest titanium backup in my searches - however i have heard that it will only back up game data if the device is rooted
i am happy to root the s3 if needed to install the data (providing i can find a simple guide XD - i like to think i am pretty tech savvy, but this is just something i havent done yet!)
i've searched for hours already and from my understanding, both (?) devices have to be rooted.
however, i have seen (unless i misunderstood) that if i root my Desire Z to do the backup, i will lose my data anyway (before i backup that is).
is this true? or am i understanding this wrong?
p.s sorry if i posted in the wrong forum. wasn't sure which one :/
You have to root.
Root Desire, install TiBackup, backup any apps you need.
Root S3, install TiBackup, tranfer microSD from Desire to S3 (in which the backups are on) and restore through TiBackup.
Simplest way I know of, and you don't lose data from rooting.

and

i will lose my data
or am i missing something?
[sorry, new to the whole rooting/flashing etc so trying to figure it all out ]
Titanium backup usually backups your apps to the external sd card. Anything on there is safe from rooting or fully wiping in recovery. Installing custom roms on it will not delete anything on it.
If you want to be extra safe, I would copy the titanium backup folder from your external sd card to your computer, so you have another copy of it in case something happens.

Thanks for clarifying
However it is my understanding that you need to root your phone in order for Titanium to be able to back up your game saves
So. My question is... does rooting cause you too lose data because that would defeat the purpose for me
No rooting will not cause loss of data.

All Rooting does is modify a few system files and if you didn't know it was Rooted you'd never notice the difference, and to put it simply everyone who's scared to Root can end up losing years worth of data when they get their new phone so you have to balance the tiny negatives with the huge positives.

ok, so to recap...
(sorry guys, just want to make sure i've got it straight in my head before i do anything!! i'm not ignorant, i swear )
i can root my desire z using this method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
(can someone confirm if i need to downgrade my firmware? across various tuts i've read they all say something different - or nothing at all! currently running 2.3.3)
install Titanium Backup and backup all my game saves
THEN
root my S3 (still need to google an easy to understand method, but if you know a simple one let me know )
install Titanium and restore my game saves :fingers-crossed:
AND in this process, i won't lose my data?
NOTE: neither device has and ANY modification, both are completely stock at this point in time.
p.s i had someone mention to me that i need to unlock my bootloader to root the device, and unlocking the bootloader will cause data loss. is this true?
Anyone able to confirm above post???
Would really like to get my games transferred if it's possible

[Q] I installed a new CWM via CWM and lost EVERYTHING! Please Help!

I was installing the new RR KitKat via clockworkmod but got an error stating "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed". I goggled it and many people were saying I need to get a newer version of CWM. Since I usually install things by booting CWM I thought there couldn't be too much harm in installing this new CWM via my old CWM. Boy was I wrong. Everything in my internal storage was deleted. Literally said 11.78GB of 11.78GB free. My heart skipped a beat. Videos? Gone. Music? Gone. Pictures? Gone (still hurts). Even my nandroid backups and titanium backups were erased. Surprisingly, despite this, my phone and apps work perfectly well.
Thank God I made it a point to use onenote and google task to write down my notes or else I'd be crying behind a glass wall of emotion right now.
Is there anything I can do to get my stuff back?
You can use usb mode of your phone and connect to your computer as a usb drive, then you can use a software like recuva and scan for deleted things. Recuva is free as far as i know, you can use any software that rescues deleted files.

[Q] New Razr, Rooted but Locked, No Nandroid — Help Restore?

Yes, I've always taken the exploits, but today I received (my 3rd or 4th) replacement Razr HD (I'd wanted a bigger phone, but this was free because the last one was under warranty... asurion). Shocker: they sent the 183.46.15 build (dammit). So all my nands are worthless.
But I did the current root exploit that keeps your phone locked but gives you root (I can get rid of the bloat and edit my files, yay), and installed a working cwm recovery for flashing zips, and flashed the tethering exploit for -15, so this new Razr HD (and it's *really* new; I'm shocked) is purring.
(the older one had been unlocked, "previously owned", which seemed fortunate, but in 6 months' time the battery had expanded so much the thing's a time bomb)
The Uncool: I'm Vicodined up (temporarily sick), and have been doing these exploits all day to see if it were even possible to get root/tethering/xposed. I'd thought it would be impossible, but was pleasantly surprised (though, damn I'd love it unlocked. But this serves my needs.)
But I didn't think about getting my old settings/apps from the old phone to the new. Though I have TiBu, it's pretty borked because my previous Razrs had that SD Card emulation directory (and I *never* understood why; didn't think about it too much). So when I copied my old phone to my laptop, Win 8.1 showed two subdirectories: "Internal Storage" and "SD Card". New phone, of course, just has "Internal Storage". And half the files in TiBu are in the \storage\emulated\legacy\blah blah blah\ (what appears as "SD Card" in Win 8.1).
So I made a hot mess dragging/dropping my "SD Card files" to the device on Win 8.1, as they didn't go into any emulated legacy folders. Dammit. Hopefully I can clean that up tomorrow, but how do I go about emulating an SD Card and copying the files over to make TiBu happy? I think it should be an adb command, but I realized I don't know the freakin file structures anymore. I'm now on 4.4.4, but have been simply flashing backups to new builds since my first Moto Razr HD, and honestly, just got lazy and let programs like TiBu and SDMaid do the hard work.
I'd really prefer NOT to have to copy over apks and install them one-at-a-time, though maybe it's time for a good phone clean? I still have my old device, but any recommendations for a quick and easy (without nandroids, of course), or should I just manually reinstall apps and settings.
Edit:
I should have done the one-at-a-time reinstall of each freaking app (LIKE I'M DOING NOW): the first copy didn't bork anything (just added files); later, using some TiBu command to restore (as per some GINGERBREAD site — I knew better... aargh!), in batch mode, was just stupid. It wasn't calendars and games that bricked the new phone, but surely trying to restore root app settings. I bricked, and had to use House of Moto to unbrick.
2nd, doing the above steps to get root (with lock) again was a joke: didn't work the first time, second, etc. My FXZ was for 4.4.2 instead of the 4.4.4 that came with the phone, and that's all I can guess the problem was. (Never did find the update; I'm on dammit kitkat). And then installing the "working CWM" took so many new tries, as well (it installed, but didn't boot into any sort of recovery for at least 10 attempts and a few uninstalls/reinstalls).
Good news: once I got the thing rooted and the CWM working, flashing was a breeze, so I'm back to where I was with a new phone (still 4.4.2 though), and I'm manually installing. I'm so pissed at TiBu documentation (it's ancient), though I understand TiBu was never meant to be a nand backup.
This will more than do, though. The weird directory structure was from a time I used safestrap (should have remembered that) and I just never cleaned up after that last exploit gave us unlocked phones. Boy do I miss being able to do a nand.

Can I Backup a locked phone?

Hey Every One
I have a Galaxy A 21s on wich I broke the Screen.
Now a few Yeas later I replaced the LCD but forgot my Password.
-Usb Debuging is Disabled.
-No Custom ROM installed, so i cant delete the Password File.
-oem Unlock is alsoe disabled.
-Find my Phone is deactivated and Google recovery also.
I have now tried a lot of ways to get to my Data but nothing worked so far.
My last resorts are trying to get a full Backup of the Phone and use it in an Android Emulator to Brutforce my Passcode.
or install Custom Recovery, restor my Backup and delete the Password File or get in with adb.
Hence my question woud it be possible to Make a Complet Backup, wit example Odin and use it in an Emulator or restore it on a Rooted Phone?
If any one knows further ways of getting back my Data im open to try things out.
Thanks for the Help.
Edit: I found that i could use adb Sideload to install Apps from stock Recovery. The only Problem i woud need to spoof the signature of the .zip im trying to instal, maybe any one knows a way wit that method?
If you can't access it you can't copy anything.
A data recovery specialist that works with Samsung's might be able to.
I never set a lock on mobile phones or PC bios because you are the one most likely to get locked out! Security is physical, one will pay with blood for trying to steal my phone.
I redundantly back up all critical data often and keep backups in separate locations. Never encrypt backup drives. Hdds are best, flash for quick "dirty" backups. I use my 1tb SD card as a data drive then back that up. Also use two .5th OTG flashsticks.
Phone is always cased. Don't put yourself in the predicament again. Think it through and tie up the loose ends before they trip you. I've lost entire, irreplaceable databases before, not fun.
There's no such thing as overkill when it comes to backing up critical data. Digital data is otherwise very fragile.
Hi, I am in the same situation as you. I forgot the pattern but I really need to recover some data before restoring the phone. With the stock recovery were you able to remove any protection via adb sideload? Thanks
