So Note 4 users that are planning to upgrade but got 5.1.1 recently.. - Nexus 6P General

Still planning on switching to the new nexus? I pre ordered thinking it would be some time before AT&T pushed out the update but they surprised everyone by releasing over the weekend. The phone feels new again and makes me wonder if I need to really upgrade before my two year contract is up
I like the idea of getting updates quicker and being on Marshmallow but now it's a bit harder decision to spend the 600
The Note 4 cost me around 100 so it's not so bad if I did buy a new phone but also first time buying off contract

5.1.1, or not, you can't wipe the taint of Touchwiz off. It takes talent like Samsung code writers to make Lollipop look exactly the same as Froyo.

Hey, hey, hey.. I liked Froyo. :silly:

I still plan on upgrading to the Nexus 6p. I miss root and being locked down due to certain carriers *cough AT&T*. I did actually think the same thing when I updated to 5.1.1, much snappier, recent apps is faster etc. Almost thought about cancelling my preorder for the 6p.
Plus I would like to experience pure stock android this time around. I've always been reluctant to move away from TouchWiz, but I've been using nova launcher and I think I'll manage the transition.

5.1.1 on the Note 4 has been the best update samsung has ever pushed on it's devices. The device does feel new and responsive with no Touchwiz lags(finally, took only a year). I'm still going for the nexus as I like development and gadgets but you could stay with the note4 for at least another year with no issues.

Well when you are getting 6.0 on you're Note 4 we will have 6.X.X which will be better in some way. Samsung will never have the most current software and it will still look ugly the weird teals, greens, and other colors kill it for me

I made my peace with my nexus 4. The camera is still one of the best around, the battery life is really good once i formatted after 5.11 and it runs everything and does everything i need it to do. Last couple of days, instead of bouncing between my other handsets, i have just been running the note 4... and not finding it a hassle at all.

Pretty much this. I have stopped caring about the update scenario, as long as its bugfixed and works well out of the box. How much time can one actually spend, on worrying about this stuff on a monthly basis? As long as the update comes well made, i am finally making my peace with it.

I'm still waiting for 5.1.1 on my VZ Note 4, and have been eyeing up the 6P... I think I'm in the same boat. Hearing that 5.1.1 fixes some performance issues is good news. I really would like stock Android though. Now I'm waiting on reviews to pop up (and the 64GB editions to come back in stock) to make a decision.
But if 5.1.1 fixes lag for the most part, I might just keep my Note 4 and see what the Snapdragon 820 brings next year. $600 would be 3x more than I've ever paid for a new phone.

What kind of problem do you have with Froyo? That dude had to carry that ring all the way to that mountain! All the time Spamwise Gangrene was jabbering on and on... I'd go crazy too if I had to listen to that on a road trip. Homeless bearded dudes showing up telling you what to do, where to go, spells and you shall not pass gas!!!!! I'll fart if i have to, you bastard! Grumpy midgets. Sorry, little people...
wtf. Give the guy a break.

I ordered the 6p because Lollipop absolutely murdered my phone. My Gear VR is basically useless now and the phone is just terrible in general. I've been patiently waiting on VZW to send out the update, but to no avail. I too am sick of having to wait for Verizon to load all their crappy bloatware on the phone before updating it. This is how all phones should be sold from now on!! Directly from the manufacturer with no carrier meddling so that updates can be pushed straight from them.

Maybe I will put my foot in my mouth later but my Note 4 is my last samsung phone. I personally feel that they have just been pushing minor upgrades out year after year and the period we had to wait to get the first lollipop update was far too long and I had to go back to Kit Kat anyways. Months have gone by again and we still have yet to see 5.1.1, I know it's not fully the fault of samsung but for me all together the N4 was a locked down mess that I was never happy with due to all the bugs. I was also a very big fan of samsung and loved my note 2, but from the note 2 to 3 wasn't that big of a jump and the 3 to 4 wasn't and the same to the 5, yes they changed and upgraded some stuff but it didn't feel like a big deal. I couldn't wait for the 4 coming from the 2 but after just 2 months I was already done with it. All in all I am very excited about the 6p.

I for some reason dislike the new design samsung has gone for. I am currently using a note 4 with a cracked screen. I bet I would break the note 5. I don't use cases or screen protectors.
I have had experience with nexus 5 for a month & battery was miserable.
I am optimistic about Nexus 6p battery & hence have preordered it.
PS the new 5.1.1 update on Note 4 is Fab !!! But using a cracked screen for 2 months has frustrated me

I've experienced a few hiccups since the upgrade though it's not clear anymore if it's the Note 4 or some buggy app (like Swiftkey acting up)
With that said, there is a benefit to receiving frequent updates - issues are addressed far faster. I mean I'm not sure about the rest of you but I experienced so much frustration with my phone since the upgrade to Lollipop - we waited like 6 months before getting 5.1.1? That's a long time to deal with buggy behavior.

I caved and ordered myself a 6P today, should be in in a few weeks. I actually canceled once because I'm not sure if it's worth changing phones (love the Note 4 hardware) but I am getting pretty tired of 5.0.1 and its performance issues.
I guess if I don't see the hype like the Internet does, I can always return it after trying it. The indecision is strong!

I have not liked the Note 4 since i got it earlier this year. Just never felt / looked right to me and am happy that i went with the 6P. The touchwiz kills it for me and dont see myself going back to a Samsung in the near future.

Week Until Release

Well 7 days as of Thanksgiving until this phone hits VZW customers pockets. I am really starting to get excited. Seems like its been such a long wait. This is going to be my phone for years to come. I am going to be investing alot into this phone. What are your thoughts on the Galaxy Note II right now?

I just hope I don't fail one of my lab finals next Thur
Seriously, I can't wait. All these people saying they are getting 12hrs of heavy usage makes me ecstatic. I have been wondering if there is a use case for the media dock for me personally. I already have a pretty nice desktop. I think for my Dad would be perfect. His laptop needs to be replaced and he needs something with a big screen. Maybe just grab a generic touchscreen monitor and the media dock for him.

"This is going to be my phone for years to come" made me lol...I give it 6mo before the s4 or something else drops and you will be moving on. Although its getting to a point where upgrading is not a huge improvement anymore. I really dont think its going to have a huge WOW factor over the S3, but I must admit I still want one lol...mainly because I initally wanted the note but it never made it to VZW so I settled for the S3.
I'm excited too, but can't upgrade for another month. Doubt I'll be satisfied for "years" though. Android has come a long way since I bought my thunderbolt and I'm sure I'll feel that again in two years.
You never know maybe Q4 next year we'll have octocore phones lol
Maybe we should get some sort of count down timer. I've been waiting since the original Note for Verizon to get in the game.
Props to the person that puts the countdown on Verizon's homepage.

I hope the DNA fails miserably so Verizon feels our pain. I think that they will realize their error when they get mobbed by all of us next week. I have been waiting for a note on Verizon forever. Just a heads up, if you go to wirefly, it is 280.00

I'm getting 36+ hours with 7 hours screen on time on LTE. I haven't had to turn off LTE once. The Note 2 blows away the GS3 in every way. TW on JB seems like an improvement over the stock N7 experience.

Verizon delayed it for so long it almost feels obsolete already with new phones like Nexus 4 out and new ones probably coming out around Christmas time. On top of that, they crapped on the home button.

If you are going pick a phone that makes the Note 2 feel almost obsolete, I wouldn't go with the Nexus 4 (Android iPhone 5 without LTE?).
I can't wait to retire my Thunderbolt. Done with all the problems with this phone. Oh, and the crazy delayed updates.
I think until something else of a similar size comes out (Note 3?) This phone will keep me plenty happy.
It certainly has the hardware to run the Android OS for a long time to come.
Note 3 should be expected in about a year.

Not worried until the Note 3 comes out or until HTC and Motorola make a phablet with a S-Pen like device. The S4 could be released tomorrow and I would still pick the Note 2 unless Samsung start putting S-Pens in all devices.
I think i'll be set till the note 3 comes out or an equivalent device boasting a larger screen size. I would like to see a 6 inch phone since I don't have infant hands like the rest of you.

This. After playing with the Note II for an extended period of time at Best Buy today, I truly believe it's a really different experience from regular smartphones, especially after using the S-Pen. That hover feature on the S-Pen is not only incredibly cool, but also super useful (for previews, information pop-ups, etc). And I can see myself taking notes with S-Note and using its Knowledge Search feature often.
Oh, and I was with my brother and his gf as I was showing this phone off to them, and I think I converted her from being an iPhone fanboy to an Android fanboy by the end of my Note II demonstration. :highfive:
I was at the mall today for my third look at the Note II. The Sprint and ATT stores both have them out. I have one on preorder from Verizon, but can't get over the size. Tried it in my pocket (again!) and fooled around with the S-pen apps and really do like this phone a lot. I've decided I want a very thin cover that will give me a better grip when I have it in one hand, and a stylus that is larger that I can keep in my shirt pocket. I was going back and forth with the NoteII, DNA, or wait until summer, but the s-pen is a great feature that is unique to the Note's.

For those on the Fence!!!!

I know many people post and come here looking for guidance on whether they should keep the Note 1 or upgrade to the Note 2. And here is my honest opinion. Let me first start off by saying how much I loved the Note 1's size and that it pretty much keeps me locked into buying only a few devices based on that fact alone. And although the Note 2 is only .2 inches larger it packs enough other features to make it a great upgrade.
Now a little about Me. I am definitely a phone lover, I have had over 20 different phones in the past few years, and love trying out different brands and operating systems. But I usually like to stick to Stock and really don't mod my devices.
Let me first start off by saying had Samsung upgraded the Note 1 to Jelly bean, I probably would have the Note 1 Still. And yes, I know I could have installed Jelly Bean or had it installed by an experienced technician, but I prefer my devices to be stock. Although the Note 1 is an incredible device its hardware begin showing its age. The phone I once thought was very smooth started chugging along as more hardware intensive applications were installed on it. I would have too reset the phone every so often to help keep enough Ram free to keep things from slowing down too much, and did a few full factory wipes when things got too bad. But all in all the Note 1 is a good phone and I would still recommend it to someone who likes to mod, or to someone who wants the big screen of the note series but doesn't like the price tag of the Note 2.
Now onto why I think you will love the Note 2. Well, first If you like the Note 1 you will definitely like the Note 2, they share many things in common. Like I mentioned before the Note 2 screen is not much bigger that the Note 1. Second, Touchwiz although it has been refined more, its still touch wiz, and the software between most of the galaxy phones is very familiar which is a good thing. But, what the Note 2 improves on makes it worth purchasing. First the feature I love the most is the speed upgrade. With 2 GB of Ram this phones speeds through things and you will experience less waiting for web paged and apps to load. Second on the software side, Samsung has introduced knew features where when you take out the S pen or plug in the headphones It will take you to a special homepage where the necessary content is easily available, for instance if you plug in the head phones it takes you to a page with the music widget, this overall makes it easier to play music. A design feature that I love and is unique to the American Variants of the Note 1 is the home button. Fore some the four touch buttons might make navigating easier but I love double tapping the home button to turn the screen on especially when i'm trying to change songs while driving, and tapping once to exit an application.
Well I hope this helps someone on the fence, who is thinking but not quite sure what to do. To summarize the Note 1 is a great phone, but I believe the Note 2 packs enough new features and design elements to warrant an upgrade.
ive decided to keep my note, holding out hope for a JB update :good:
At this time I will wait for note3. We are only 5-6 months away...and I think we are going to get jelly bean upgrade soon anyway.with most of the note2 features included. There's really dont have any good reasons to get note2 now. Unless our phone broke.and u need a phone now..

Yeah I wished they would have upgraded the Note 1 to Jelly Bean already, but I got tired of waiting. But thats Googles fault they should start holding manufacturers accountable for there upgrades. Better yet manufacturers should start shipping all phones out with pure Android on them and the owner of the phone will have the choice of installing there skin or rocking the pure experience, atleast that way when an update comes out it will be available immediately and all the manufacturer would have to do is update its skin to the newest Android version, problem solved.

The Note 2 is a really good phone but in a few more months, the Note 3 is gonna be release and most of us are willing to keep our Notes til then. My girl has the Note 2 and even she says that the 16x10 screen ratio is better than the 16x9 ratio on the note 2.

Just wondering...How was the OG Note like an experiment gone wrong?
More like the Dell Streak was a bad experiment.
The OG Note was the first 5+ inch screen phone that gained traction for Phablets. Plus bringing back the olden day stylus but making it do much more with features is damn well amazing.
Now...almost every mobile manufacturer and their grandmas are producing 5+ inch screens.

I believe AT&T still carries the OG Note so its not at the end of life like the HTC Droid DNA which got EOL within only 4 months. The Note 2 should've had 1080p full resolution...but I'm sure we'll see that on the Note 3 which will make the Note 2 obsolete. Nuff said

Had I the spare cash when the Note 2 came out, I probably would have grabbed one, but as other's have stated, the Note 3 is literally right around the corner, and will have the features that I'm looking for, namely the 1080 res, and more cores under the hood. Well.......since getting the note 2, I can say without a doubt that it's simply a great device. Battery life is superb, and function with the quad core chip is nimble and effortless.
However, with every device comes it's setbacks, and the note 2 is no exception, with a borked up browser, weak glass screen, and resolution that is "NOT" improved over the note 1, just to name a few of the issues I've found.
The note 1 was a breakthrough device. And Samsung created a whole new user base with it. It's life is not even close to over, as the device is still sold in several markets world wide, and refurbished devices are flowing like water from Texas.
I love the note 1, and it will always hold a unique place in the handset world. so those of you who want to move over to the note 2, go ahead. It's a great device, but so is the note 1 in many ways.
Enjoy them both while they last, as we are sure to see a third version in the works soon. But for now, don't worry about it, as it's only a rumor......and we all know about rumors, and how they end up much different than the reality we live with.
Happy flashing....g
Samsung would be a fool if they didn't release another version of the BEST PHABLET on the market! It was probably the 2nd or 3rd Best selling Android last year. For all the doubters.

I'm thinking of downgrading the screen size and going for a HTC ONE. Having a nexus 7, a surface pro, and a computer makes me feel like the galaxy note is neglected a lot and there's really no need for such a device now. I still want a smartphone, just not one this big since the nexus 7 is with me anyway. Oh well, to each his own. I did try and end up not buying the note 2.

I kid, and yet I dont, 16:9 drives me nuts! So nuts in fact that I refuse to buy ANY laptop/desktop monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio! Sure the laptop's are quickly becoming outdated, but ill switch to a tablet with 16:10 before I upgrade to a laptop with 16:9
A true 7" tablet phone (not phone tablet/phablet) with 16:10 before Id give up my GNote for the GNote 2 with 16:9! Well, that or a swap with my i717 for an n7000!

Is there anything the note 2 can't do?

I am going to be switching to Verizon, and I have always liked the note series, just never had one. I like the note 3 on paper but I also like custom roms and aosp. Hence why I decided on the 2, I want that option, I just don't think there will be as much for the 3, but I digress..
I am one of those type of people that always wants the latest and greatest, but I am more than happy with my s3 I have had since june 2012.

I never ran into issues with the n2. If you are able to hold out. I would go with the n3. Way better specs. Better everything and the same relative size.
What exactly about aosp do you like? I personally feel that Samsung has come a long way with touchwiz and it is the best manufacturer skin.
Just my 2 cents. I currently have the s4 and I'm jumping on the n3 as soon as I can

Aosp? Everything.
Touchwiz isn't horrible, I just prefer to run the slimmest Rom I can. I will probably root the note2, unlock the bootloader, and run a stock rooted rom for a while, but I will get bored with it fast. On my s3 I thought"this is the first phone I don't want to root", well that lasted less than 3 months
The other thing I have to consider is the financial side, I am breaking one of my Sprint contracts for 160 to switch. And if I wait I until the 10th, then I have a whole 'nother month of sprint service to pay for as my billing cycle goes through the 8th.

I bounce back and forth between TW and AOSP. I really like s note, and I use BT voice dialing everyday during the week, so I only use AOSP on weekends.

Exactly! Most of the N3 upgrades will never be noticed in real world use. I think I am going to hold off another year and get the N4. The new LTE should be out and imo that is the biggest upgrade worth spending the coin on. Verizon LTE has dropped way off in performance over the last year.

All I can find is information related to the new Nexus 5, and although it's a great looking device, I'm gonna wait a bit to see if I want to change carrier just to get it. What really has me excited is the concept of a far more powerful Nexus 10 device.
Yet, no one seems especially interested. So am I gonna have any competition at all buying this device? If no one cares I guess it'll make it that much easier to waltz in and buy it. I even sold my old one before the new one was announced so that I could get a good price for it.
I am with you. Looking forward to it. If it ever sees the light of day.
not really ... my nexus 10 is already perfect

As someone who owned a Nexus 10, perfect does not describe it accurately. It may be perfect for you but I would like to see the new one improve on some things. Holding out for more news, but there doesn't seem to be any :/

Agree. A good device but not perfect.
Im also looking forward to the 2nd gen Nexus 10. However, I really hope that its not Asus that makes the next N10. They seem to f**k up every device they release.

Yup I am looking forward to it. The current Nexus 10 is good but you can tell that it has not really been optimised and it does lag. Because the new tablet will be using the 800 snapdragon (well hopefully) then it will sure be a hell lot smoother and stable.

That's what I felt about mine the whole time I had it. It was smooth... sometimes. Even with the subsequent updates it never really felt like it was "there" yet. I knew going in that it was a first gen device and that there may be problems. Perhaps they just couldn't find a CPU/GPU at the time that would handle the level of power needed. Overall I choose Android over iOS for the functionality, and wouldn't balk at a few stutters. However, there were many things that just seemed to really bother me.
Browsing the web was a complete chop fest on many of my favorite websites, most likely because the Nexus has to re-scale just about everything, every time, because of its very high resolution. Also, playing games was fun, but only til the tablet got really hot and throttled itself and the game started to slow down. Even the relatively simple game "Dungelot" had this problem. Stuttering abounded after that happened. It was other games too but that one I remember vividly.
In other words... I loved it, but I would also really love an updated version of it. One that doesn't have the problems present with the first.
Well it definitely looks like it'll be manufactured by Asus and not Samsung.
That doesn't really bother me - I came to the Nexus 10 from the Nexus 7 (first gen). Nexus 7 was awesome until 4.2 was released and it never recovered from that. It annoyed me that to get a decent experience from it I needed to use an outdated version of Android...
I sold my Nexus 7 and bought a 2nd hand N10. I do love my N10 but yeah obviously I would love an updated faster version, but for me money is an issue and I already got a great bargain for the 2nd hand N10 (for £185) (this was in July), so i wouldn't be able to afford a new N10. Same with the Nexus 5. Would freaking love one but no way I can afford it, I've got a 2nd hand HTC One X (for £145).
Yeah I agree Google need to sort out performance on android. Nexus 7 first gen was brilliant but after the 4.2 update it has been bad, and even with 4.3 with trim it is still laggy.
Nexus 10 on the other hand has got better with updates, it is just the kernel and driver which is letting it down in my opinion.

Would be nice if ANY information on the N10 version two was available.
Hard to get excited about a new device with zero info...

Right? Where's the new Nexus 10 spec leak? Come on, they've already pretty much shown us the whole Nexus 5. Specs, images, hell they even put it up on Google Play for a short time. I have looked through the roster of available tablets, and a new Nexus 10 is what I wanna go with, despite the absence of info. The new Note looks alright, but it also looks bloated and confusing.
Why can't the other tablet manufacturers understand that maybe the user actually wants to use some of that power for important things, not 100 background processes that slow the entire thing down. Oh sure you could root it and put a different ROM on, but why would I pay $550 for a tablet with all these special features I don't want and am going to just throw away? It's like pissing $150 down the drain.
Google needs to get on the ball with these new releases.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I too hope you are wrong. I can't wait that long....
I want a release already but then again if they release it on the same day as the nexus 5 (Oct. 24th) then I'll be spending around $1000 by Oct. 31st... So let's hope for a quick release but not so quick..

I'm with you. I've never been a fan of Samsung TouchWiz - it's just a bunch of unnecessary fluff as far as I'm concerned.
I purchased my current cell phone (Galaxy Nexus) from Amazon for just that reason.
Hopefully by the time the new Nexus 10 is out the Asus TF701T will be available as well - would be nice to have another choice at time of purchase!
Nope won't be upgrading as mine is perfect too

I'm definitely intrigued about getting the next one. I like mine, but certain things like the creakiness, random reboots, light bleed, and slowdown keep bothering me.

Needs to look more square like the Nexus 7 2013 and come in around £300.
Otherwise ipad air for me.
Hope they announce it soon.
Google is out of stock on the 16 Gb version. Since I doubt these things are selling like hotcakes now, I hope this means that they have stopped resupply in anticipation of the new one launching.
Pure conjecture.
Would be nice if...
Would be nice if we had some info on it. I've got the original wifi xoom mz604 and I'll say its held up nicely and it does everything I ask it to do, but I've upgraded my phone twice since getting it and I'm ready for the nexus 10 2 (nexus 10 2013?) to drop...or just some info to drop so I can make a decision whether to wait or not.
What I don't understand about product releases is that I would think manufacturers would want to release information as early as possible so that buyers can decide whether to wait and buy their device or to go ahead and buy an available device. I'd think that if someone wants a new tablet and wants to get the newest one available (that suits them), they would research whats available or coming up and make a decision. If i'm gonna buy a tablet today, but I know the nexus 10 2 is coming out in 2 weeks. I'm more likely to wait the 2 weeks and get the newest tablet out there. If theres no info on release date and I need a tablet now, I'll just go buy whats available now instead of waiting indefinitely.
Get the release date and price out there so I can decide to wait or not. Otherwise I'll buy something else today and you'll lose my business. I'm sure there are reasons to not release the info, but as a buyer...I want to know how long I have to wait.
At any rate, I want to switch to Nexus devices...but I'm on Verizon and won't be getting a nexus phone anytime soon I bet. So at least tell me when I can get the tablet...I mean, its my birthday today and I could tell my family just to give me some cash to save up for it instead of asking for something else just to be asking for something...i.e. mom is getting me a briefcase...exciting!
Lay out the release roadmap so I know what to do...please.

Galaxy S5 is the best smartphone ever!

Let me say this first, I have used the iPhone 3GS, 4, before I hopped on the Android bandwagon. I have been very happy using samsung phones since then (S II, HTC One X, S III, HTC One), but the S4 and the Note 3 made me want to switch back to the iPhone because of it's unbearable lag. So when the S5 was announced, I had already made up my mind about going back to the Apple ecosystem. Then I tried my wife's Galaxy S5 and let me tell you, this is THE smoothest Android phone I have ever used (not including nexus of course, because I imagine it to run smooth because it runs stock android). The new touch wiz skin on this phone is SEXY. I'm glad I didn't jump the ship so soon!!!

Lol the s4 had lag, i know cause i had it, but the note 3 has ZERO lag on stock out of the box and I've read on the 4 major carriers the there is still lag on the s5 out of the box. Interesting assessment on your part.

Both device have lag bumps here and there out of the box lol
Some carriers worse then others , It really comes down to bloat.
My Bro picked up GN3 last week its a great device but my GS5 shows slightly smoother performance....at least in are side by side testing.
Could it be snap801 adding the edge hmm maybe. we can rule out ram being the reason lol
Also,
Radio is stronger in GS5

the sd 801 is basically an overclocked 800. Every other device the 801 is clocked at 2.3ghz same as all the 800's. And you then must be the rare bird because everyone has said the note 3 was the first Galaxy phone with TW that launched with no lag. And you do hear a lot of people complaining about lag on the S5. I mean if it's working for you then great, it's just about everyone else sees it the opposite way.

Oh my a rar bird lol
All new device release get lag complaints my friend.
I mean come on love your Note3 but don't be blind - https://www.google.com/search?q=Gal...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Both device are grade A equal in my book....hmm Well GS5 has better radio & less wake lag , other then that pretty equal.
Also adding:
I'm a big Note fan!
I got hooked on GN2 loved it to death finding GN3 not to be worthy upgrade for a couple reasons.....one of them being build quality so I took the chance on LG G2.
LG G2 was....was at top of the mountain before 4.4 kitkat update.
After update battery life & performance took a dump so it was time for new device
GN3 or GS5.
I choose GS5 because of water resistance lol
When GN4 becomes available I will own one

I'm not talking kk I'm talking original release 4.3 since kk isn't really worth the update. But each has there lag? Didn't you say the s5 was lag free?

Buddy I was a hardcore Note 2 owner that backed away from GN3 upgrade due to build quality,,,,that darn loose home button scared me away lol
Anyway while GN2 user I came across many lag postings in GN3 land during its release, Its the norm for all devices.
No never said GS5 is lag free , This is what I said,

my bad it was the other guy who mentioned s5 was lag free or hinted that way. About the home button, I think that was the initial stock, because I know 7 people with note 3 and all of us have no button issues. Buttons are rock solid, no wiggle at all. Haven't heard the button issues since launch. To bad you skipped the note3, it's the best phone I've ever owned and the best I've ever used. I've played around with the LG g2, htc one, s3, note 2, LG g flex plus the ones I've owned.
To see Lag on note 3 & S4:
1. Open Phone app:
2. Press the top right contacts buttons
3. Press the top left keypad button
4. swtich back and fourth. you will see the lag.
Compare the same on a GS5. Smooth as butter.
Yes the best
LOVE MY S5:good::good::good::good::good:
I'm actually selling mine after owning for only 3 days (rooted, SIM unlocked, and bootloader switched to TWRP).
Why? On alliancerom, I have had to do so much work to get it close to the CM experience I had on the S2, S3, and S4. Nothing can come close For example, I need a fast camera...and although the stock rom camera is fast, in the custom roms I tried, the camera in my experience was slow (tried 4 different cameras).
The S4 is actually quite respectable compared to the S5, especially if running CM or other rom.
Don't get me wrong about TouchWiz, on my Note 10.1 2014, I updated to latest KitKat update, which is Touchwiz, however in phone implementation, there just isn't enough customization. Yes I tried GravityBox, Xposed, and the lot, but it just wasn't the same.
Maybe I'll be back for the S5 Prime if it comes out...but my next might end up being the Asus PadFone X...we will see!

Issue being people are basing their previous androids experience on how quick roms came etcc.. Times have changed, there's more security added which we all know by know. Year by year manufacturers and carriers will make it harder to root

Im going to have to say that Samsung is the reason behind the bad and slow complicated development on the Galaxy S devices. If you take a loot at the HTC One development threads there plenty going on over there. Everything from plenty of custom roms to GPE roms to CM.
I just traded my HTC One M8 today for the Galaxy S5 due to me being disappointed in the camera on the HTC One M8.
Performance wise, I get hicups and lag every now and then when swping home screens and backing out of apps ecetra. With me having 2 kids and I take pictures allot so switching to the S5 was a plus on my end.
After being on S4 - M7 - Note 2 and Note 3, the S5 seems to have more lag then other devices.
If you want a "Smooth" "Lag Free" android experience then I recommend the HTC One M8. That phone had almost 0 lag at all. Samsung Touchwiz seems to always lag down for some reason.

The Phone app on the S4 & the contacts app are two separate apps. The Contact button is a hyperlink between the two. If you'll notice, the buttons change at the top also, except for the one which brings back the actual phone keypad. If you go looking through the complete app list in something like TiBu, you'll find both of them. One is like Phone.apk and the other is Dialer.apk or something.
On the S5, the two are one and the same. This way the S5 doesn't have to call a new app into memory just to access the contacts.
That all being aside, I have to say that this version of TW is probably the best looking TW I have ever seen. I love the flat color and the simple flat UI design. Apple started it, but Samsung definitely outdid themselves this time around. I think the only thing I'll be doing this go-round is rooting the phone.. although T-Mobile doesn't like giving out OTAs to rooted devices... might need a way around that in the future. Everything else is great.
