Stagefright root ? - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since it seems the newest stagefright bug is still unpatched maybe this could be used to do a non-unlock root ?

AFAIK the stagefright exploit(s) will give you "system" access at most, not root. We need a privilege escalation from system user to root.

I was afraid of that

[Q] Running a Unroot required app on rooted device

Hi
I recently moved and had the oppertunity to view my TV-channels on my phone. However it is required to have a device who is not rooted, and I don't really want to unroot just to view tv on my phone.
Does anyone know of a small program, script etc. which can tell the app that the phone is unrooted, even though it is rooted?
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, running stock unlocked and unrooted JB yakju 4.2.2.
Thanks in advance!
I found out that I can temporarely disable root in the SuperSU app, but it would be nice to have something that permantly knew that this app should be runned without root.

@AAbounegm
Temp unroot is available in Superuser 3.1.x (this may vary because Superuser versions vary from device to device)
@Juhler @rosentorp
Also you can use RootCloak Xposed Module to hide root only only specific apps.
The advantage is you can use root with other apps and only hide root from tv app.
Get it here (Android ICS and +)

You may be right. I have SuperUser built-in with CM, and I don't have this features. In fact, I don't have many of features and I can't even know what version I have. :good:

Update Superuser from Play Store if update is available for your device.
Also if update is not available, Play Store shows current version of installed Superuser.

[Q] Rooting with towelroot

Hi does rooting xperia z2 with towelroot unlock the bootloader?
Nope,but there's a easier method by bin4ry available for. 314 firmware
Sent from my D6502 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

No...
Rooting device means just to get access to some advanced, administrative rights.
It won't change (almost)anything, at least not visually...
On the other hand, unlocking bootloader is a procedure where you have to enter your IMEI on Sony support web page and get key.
Using that key and adb or flashtool you can unlock bootloader.
But always backup your DRM keys!
By unlocking bootloader you'll wipe those keys and lose some protected features...
For Z2 that's only online service support but on Z3 you'll lose many important features (like new camera algorithms).
Same thing happened to Z2 in the beginning and Sony "fixed" that so I'm sure they will change that for Z3...
You can always use your backup and relock bootloader again (if you were smart and you have recovery) ?
ok thats good to know. and i read few articles about z2 getting the new 4.4.4 fw update. can that be rooted by towelroot? because in some places ive read, towelroot supports 4.4.2 or lower.
thanks ! im good with just rooting and maybe installing xposed. thanks.

I am seriously doubting that towelroot will be able to root the upcoming 4.4.4 firmware due to it using a exploit what Sony has patched with their most recently built firmwares. However, with PRFCreator you can download the 4.4.4 .ftf (when it is released), dual recovery and the SuperSU binaries. The tool will create a flashable zip file for recovery (for a lower firmware build obviously). You flash that and then you are updated to the newest firmware with root access. Or at least I believe that is the process, I've never used it before.

That's because 4.4.4 isn't out for Z2, so we have no idea what (if any) unmatched exploits are available.

AFAIK this just automates the rooting process it still requires the exploit to be present.

As I said, I have never used it before so I don't know how it works properly. But how I am seeing and understanding the tool it creates a flashable zip with SuperSU binaries and dual recovery embedded in it. Since it is only a flashable zip I personally can't see why the higher firmware would need a root exploit so long as there is one available for a lower firmware and that firmware also has a working recovery.

Open up SuperSU and update the binaries and reboot if needed.
If you don't have to update the binaries scroll to the Xposed Installer in the SuperSU app.
Press on the Xposed Installer to bring up the SuperSU permissions.
Press Forget.
Relaunch Xposed Installer from the app drawer.
This SHOULD fix the problem, if not let me know.

Multi-Window Marshmallow

Im wondering if its possible to enable multi-window on this tablet now that marshmallow has released. I know its most likely possible on unlocked bootloader with root but i was wondering if the same could be possible for locked bootloader?
Here's a link if it helps:

No, build.prop edits need root or a custom recovery from which you can edit build.prop on the system partition:

I thought so damn although I did notice a recovery boot file in the system folder no idea if there's an actual recovery but I don't think I can access it anyway. If only sony provided us with a stock recovery like other OEMs. Seeing this feature on the Z4T I'm sure will be great. I thought it might have been possible to pull the build.prop without recovery using adb but I guess not. If only there was root on locked BL...?

Yes, if only. Maybe this fresh MM ROM has some vulnerability that can be exploited to gain root. But knowing Sony’s extensive, custom countermeasures, I think chances are very slim.
Just unlock your bootloader and fully enjoy this tablet

Haha lol I could do that but I'm worried about warranty cus I've been having WiFi issues that come and go I plan to unlock my BL after 2 years when warranty runs out so next year.

I didn't mean "completely" in a way that it's unusable, but you only get root access via ADB, since SuperSU will not work. So that sucks :/

You can try to rename this to : "update.zip" w/o quotas and update from stock recovery or HERE you got ADB sideload files. If i remember correctly bout ways you will wipe your devices , so make backups of whatever you got important on your phone.
Good luck

Question How to update my phone without losing the root ?

You have to redo the root process as described in my guide ! ^^
You just don't need to unlock the bootloader as it is already done.
BTW, which Magisk version are you using as I have to update my guide since the release of Magiskv24.3 ?
The root process won't change only everything related with magiskv24.3...
If Zygist is enabled all RIRU modules won't work anymore and will be disabled !
With Zygist enabled you will have to install LSPosed-zygist module with SafetyNet Fix 2.2.1...

will the data be reset?
For future reference, you do not have to wipe your data when updating your phone. Simply acquire the update files, either from Samsung Smart Switch or the internet. Copy the AP file to your phone, patch it with Magisk. Then with Odin, flash from the update, the BL file, the magisk patched AP file, CP if you have one and the Home CSC file, as this will retain your data compared to plain CSC which will wipe it
