How to install official weekly ROM updates while keeping certain system settings? - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Just like (I suppose) most of us I'm using the official developer ROM, currently v. 5.10.8, and have been keeping up with the updates. My question is, how do you guys keep your phone up to date without having to reinstall/configure apps like SuperSU, Adaway, AFWall+, etc.? Do you use a separate service/app to restore app data after every update? Or is there a way to prevent those specific files in the system folder to be overwritten?
Thanks for your feedback

You have to reconfigure it. The install script do a format system (not a wipe
~ Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime ~

I have the stable rom with TWRP and OpenGapps
If I want to weekly update the stable rom, I can't do it without re-installing OpenGapps?
Thanks!

Uff ok, guess I'll have to write some post-install script then to install those apps, enable init.d support (needed for applying fw rules on boot), etc. and use Titanium/Helium/.. to restore data of System apps. Thx for the info.

I will have this setup when my phone arrives - official developer ROM and Open GAPPS. Does OTA affect the open GAPPS? Will you need to reinstall?

If you want we can cooperate on such a script (or feel free to share if you do not want help)

Thanks for proposing your help, but I'm currently looking into running AOSP as it seems stable enough for everyday use and offers init.d support by default. I'll still need to script all the other stuff though so I might get into it at some point (when I find the time). Will share of course. This is my first time running MIUI and I'm actually surprised noone has come up with this before. Does everyone just like having to go through all those steps after flashing the latest release??

Introduction:
MoKee OpenSource is the biggest non-profit Android Open Source development team in China, with members from all parts of the world. We follow the latest development from Google closely and improve various parts of Android according to the users’ habits. Being a non-profit organisation, we utilise our spare time and own funds to keep this passion alive. Therefore, the costs for the forum and servers are solely beared by us. In order to provide a good user experience, we only included a few preinstalls in the ROM. Along with the advertisements in the forum; we hardly get enough to pay for the bandwidth. The point is, those are our only source of income, however many developers choose to exclude them when releasing unofficial builds. Unlike CyanogenMod, we did not accept monetary help at the early stages, as in China, most people do not understand the meaning of “making a donation”. They would think of it as buying a service, which is conflicting with our objectives.
Anyways, we still made it until today, and even started to provide third party developers a chance to utilise our OTA system. All of these are the fruit of our hard work and passion. We are proud of the happy users, and we are also proud of the support given to MoKee OpenSource. Most importantly, we are proud of the improvements we have achieved all these while, and the advancements never stop.
Flashing Guide:
1. Install custom recovery
2. Copy custom ROM zip file to sd-card (not internal)
3. Boot into recovery mode
4. Now from recovery menu select backup
5. Take backup (previous stable)
6. Now select wipe
7. Advance wipe & select system, data, dalvik cache, cache
8. Now wipe it
9. Select install & select custom rom zip
10. Clear cache & dalvik cache
11. Now install gapps
12. After installing gapps, wipe cache & dalvik cache
13. Reboot
14. That's all folk's, enjoy custom ROM

I'm searching a really stable ROM for my gf and her I9195. Features and stuff aren't that important. Since I use MoKee on my S2G (History KK Version, LP isn't totally stable for S2G yet) and it's rock stable, I wanted to give this a try.
Can you tell me if the LP-Version is already 100% stable or should I better go for the History KK Version?

Hello guys, i have some questions about MoKee! Can someone tell me what's the differences with cyanogen mod 12.1? Does MoKee have some special features like power saving or something?I searched the xda and web but i didnt find what i was looking. It's my first time with MoKee.Thanx guys for your help!
Tried flashing todays ota (not flashed an ota before as just installed rom) and it failed saying unexpected contents in su
This maybe because I updated the su binary and busybox
I'll try removing the check from the updater script
update
just as I thought - I removed the checks for su and busybox and the patching lines for these files from the updater script and the ota flashed successfully

Hi , thanks for suggestion
Anw what is flash the official rom? I mean what should i do?

does miui.eu have ota??

I'm thinking of switching to miui.eu but does it support ota?
I currently use Miui eu 10.3.7 (and earlier) as my daily ROM for a long time. I find the most versatile, stable and profitable ROM so far. And yes, it has ota, but it never worked for me really, when there are updates, warn, give the data of the same but never starts the download, so I manually download the version and dirty flash later without problems.

Okay. I don't remember if from there it can be decrypted, but if not, to be able to do it you have to Format data from TWRP. This will erase absolutely everything from internal memory and cannot be undone. So have the precision of previously having the ROM file to flash in a sd or pendrive otg to be able to access from TWRP.
Read XDA forums first of all !!! There is a lot of useful information that will prevent you from making mistakes.

[CLOSED] Rick's Rom DUB5 SM-N986U1 Snapdragon Safe Update To One UI 3.1

First, I am not responsible to what happens after you flash this. If your phone dose not work afterwords it is your own doing. I didn't force you to flash it..
This is a stock rom for the most part for the Snapdragon Note 20 Ultra U1 that I use as my daily driver. I disabled file encryption, removed knox, fixed screen cast and shealth plus Bluetooth and smartwatch pairing. Most of the Google apps are uninstallable. I'll try to keep this up to date every month the best I can. Enjoy.
You Must Have A Unlocked Bootloader and a SM-N986 U1 or U Ultra to proceed. This Might Wipe Your Data!! Make a Back up!!.
Instructions:
1: Flash with Odin in the respective slots (bl, ap, cp and csc).
2: Wipe and format data in recovery if coming from a different rom or android version.
3: Reboot and set it up.
Enjoy.
See this thread or this thread if you need a unlock. The teams there are great!
Built With SuperR's Kitchen
Thanks @afaneh92 for the unlock and TWRP
Thanks @bklyn_syed for sharing the fixes for Bluetooth and shealth.

I don't think so but I'm really not sure, I haven't looked into it. The big deal for me is downloading more firmware, keeping track of more files, storage space and time. Honestly it's pretty simple to build your own. You can get all the info you need for that here .

I was sitting here debating on whether to go with 10 or 11 lol. Durrr me...I'm all for a custom cleaned up ROM any day over the untouched stock firmware. I see that your ROM is on the latest 11 (CUA1). Nice!
Since your tweaking the universal U1 firmware and since there isn't any carrier bloatware in there, is there much to really remove to make it even more lean and lighter? I know in the old days those firmware's were loaded with bloat and by removing them helped it a lot.
I also noticed that the latest 11 file size was smaller than the latest 10. From what you can see is that from just making 11 more efficient, thus making it lighter?
Regarding the change log:
Disabled File Encryption - Is that for the entire device file encryption or the built in folder encryption that was disabled? What are the benefits from disabling this? Does it just make it smoother even if you don't use the encryption feature on the device?
Removed Knox - Does using a smart watch to use Samsung Pay etc... still a work around even with the device knox removed?
Are there any settings to be able to tweak camera settings to improve the camera? iirc back in the Note 3 and 4 days, a Dev said that there was a value in the image quality or something that was set to I think 8 instead of the max 10? He had maxed that out and included that in the ROM... I'm curious if such adjustments exist in the 11?
Does the CUA1 have the baked in Microsoft Swiftkey (VIRUS) or is that only on carrier firmware's?
I have the Unlocked varaint of the Note 20 Ultra straight from Samsung. Oddly, it came with firmware ATGO, which is ATT lol.. but I'm on TM. What has been annoying is that I can't uninstall the darn microsoft swiftkey.
I love Swiftkey as a keyboard (best touch accuracy IMO), but despise the intrusivemness, so I like to use my own tweaked swiftkey with the internet premissions removed w/ using AFWall+ to block everything else. ie...
The thing is that I haven't been able to install the tweaked swiftkey due to it not letting me since the stock MS one is baked in...

If you are on other base rom, best practice is to factory reset prior to flash rom and new gapps.
After this steps if rom does not boot, probably you are encrypted, remove encryption and repeat the steps.
If after removing encryption rom still does not boot, make a factory reset again after flashing rom and gapps, then all will be fine.
Please be sure you are using one TWRP that can handle firmware flash
Advise to use latest official TWRP
Also be sure you are using proper firmware.
Relative to gapps, the advised ones is pico package since nano its now too big to install ( ARM):
OTA built in on rom for updates easly
Three fingers screenshot ( enable in settings over gestures options )
Support out of the box to microG GmsCore ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...oftware-clone-of-google-play-services.3217616 )
No more need to make microG system app
PoGO: Gonna catch then all ( Always report using real GPS in case of mock location been used )

If the rom fail to flash its because you need to make that, but on OPO if you did not messed with the partitons before you will be probably just fine flashing and no need to resize. The issue is not really rom problem, the problem its when flashing gapps that will ask for more space, but that is most for bigger gapps packaging, it you use the nano or base package you will have no issues flashing. Sorry for late answer mate !

One or another should be fine, if use open gapps pick the small package and then install the rest trough Play Store !

I'm not able to flash opengapps pico : error 70
I tried to resize system partition but not being able...
@danieldmm can you help me?
@danieldmm
I can confirm what amadeumagalhaes wrote above. Gapps pico won't install.
I've installed Magisk, got root and I tried deleting some system files to make more space but all apps I've used gave me the same message: uninstall failed. I used SD Maid, System app remover, My Android Tools.
Any ideas?
P.S.1 Instead of opengapps pico, I've flashed mindthegapps. No issues flashing it even if it's larger than opengapps pico. The issue with deleting system files remains unchanged.

A bunch of us had this same problem with @Tomoms ROM. He managed to fix this in recent releases.
I have no issues on whatsapp. On Tomoms ROM thread it says to restart the app until the overexposure is gone.

If you have still 1.0 you cannot use OTA since the system its down, to use OTA you need to update the Updater you have on 1.0, will drop on bottom a update apk of Updater if you are on 1.0 and prefer to use OTA, just install as regular app updating the system one. And then use the built OTA to update from 1.0 to 2.0, you can also check the change log after updating the updater, its too big to post here, it have all the changes commited to lineageos since my last build. Enjoy guys, long live to OPO
