Is it possible to update Sony z3V using the Sony PC companion app for Windows? - Xperia Z3v General

I believed I messed up somewhere in updating to the latest lollipop firmware and now it wont get go beyond the verizon logo. I have twrp installed and even thou after installing the pre-rooted zip it just wont work. I am trying to go back to stock firmware but I am also having issues with the flashtool havent looked too much on the driver issue I know people have experienced the same thing, but my question is to make things simpler will it be possible to repair the phone using the sony pc companion tool? I believe is not supported since I cant find the model z3v, do I select a Tmobile or Japan model? Thanks.

According to my experience, you cannot update your phone with PC Companion because PC Companion does not recognize the z3v phones (at least for me). If your phone is soft-bricked, then you need a flashtool 0.9.18.1 (stable to flash z3v to 23.1.D.0.509).

yes obsolutely

According to "Lhun" on reddit website:
(s)he says if you flash Z3v with a generic firmware then it will be possible to update directly from Sony! (regardless if by OTA or Pc Companion)
Is this correct??

I read that as well. I think it still only applies to the z3 specifically and its other branded GSM siblings. Ours is a unique hybrid of using Verizon's proprietary bands using CDMA. Don't flash that.

PC companion/repair

For those who pc companion/repair does not work, and I was one ever since I unlocked my bootloader, it maybe the pc that you're using that is the problem.
I installed pc companion on another pc, and in the process of checking that it was ok, one thing led to another, I clicked on repair knowing it won't work on my phone....well it did!
Surprise and joy turned to surprise and 'what have I done???' as I watched everything get wiped, when it didn't need to be.
But it's all up and running again with a super clean install
To be honest, I've read about doing this here, but I couldn't see why it would work, but it did.
It's certainly worth trying if your phone is bricked, good luck
Sorry to hijack but this thread seems to be the most recent on PC Companion issues.
I have a Xperia S, flashed with flashtool to the latest generic firmware. I want to do a repair with PC Companion to ensure updates will work once ICS is released. PC Companion recognizes the device and presents the option to repair. I choose this option, everything works fine until it begins to flash. Then PC Companion states "There is no firmware available for you rphone. Please try again later"
Here is a piece of the log where fail occurs.
09:34:41,86 [PhoneUpdate 12/03/20] CWizFlash failure detected
09:34:50,59 [PhoneUpdate 12/03/20] CWizFlash no firmware available reported.
09:34:50,63 [PhoneUpdate 12/03/20] Add statistic: Function: Phone Repair, Completion status: Fail, Error: No firmware available
Any suggestions??
Did you do what the OP said worked for him? I have read in other threads that using a different pc allows repair. Just uninstalling pc comp does not work. Try new pc.

Hi, I can't help you much without leading you astray, but maybe you have the wrong firmware, I've had that problem before. But more importantly, if you have a Xperia S then maybe you could check the Xperia S section.

Got it sorted.
By the way I have multiple posts in the Xperia S section but did not have many users experiencing my issue since the device is fairly new. Had an X10 prior to the Arc and Arc S so I figured I'd visit my old stomping grounds.
What are the steps you followed ?
Launch PCC, repairmode, then connect in flashmode (As in my guide "How to use PCC") ?

official firmware

so i have a mini pro and it is on tesco mobile. i also have a galaxy s2 and know what i am doing with that. I know where to download firmware for that. is there a similar place to samfirmware, that is trustworthy, where i can download the firmware for the mini pro?
i saw a thread about wotan server but I cannot see a free way to do this.
is there
really nobody who knows?
Are you on a Mini Pro or an X10 Mini Pro?
Sony Ericsson is not too keen on having their firmwares out in the wild, i guess you could trick PC Companion into downloading the firmware-blobs and create your own bundle with Flashtool.
wow
blob? flashtool? Oh, I will leave it if I have to learn a whole new thing just to break my phone! If only it was as easy as samsung make it!
If you really want the original stock firmware just get PC Companion from the Sony website.
Leave the phone unplugged, choose update...
It can't find your phone because it's unplugged and give you a repair option
In that repair option it let's you choose your model and downloads the firmware for that and flashes it to the phone. You will lose all data though so make sure you have a backup
(It does not always work, but that may be regional or carrier related, i'm still not sure)
To upgrade to official firmware,
you can use SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and install it.
After, you follow the instruction that SEUS gives you. ;-)
Sorry for my bad english.

Unable to flash with Sony Flashtool

Hi All,
I hope someone can help. I need to restore the original software on my SGP521 and tried to flash a .ftf with the Sony flashtool. I've got an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed. But when I connect my tablet to my pc and open the flashtool, I get a message saying 'no matching services' along with a yellow triangle. It recognises the device correctly though. Any suggestions?
thanks
Edit: Ok, so it seems that the Sony flashtool is only compatible with 511 and not the 521. Great, thanks Sony! How do I flash a tft then?

Before messing with the device you should read carefully. FTF is for Flashtool the real one not Sony's crippled Get it here:http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
For some strange reason sony decided to name their tool "flashtool" too.

Thanks, managed to flash the original firmware.
This is my first Sony device and I'm having a hard time adjusting. I've always had Nexus devices or GPE's and I have to say that it's a little less friendly in terms of modding. That said, I absolutely love this thing and am so happy I replaced my iPad with it

Hehe, once you get used to it you will see its very easy too
We did build many tools around Xperia Devices, if you know how to use them there won't be a problem anymore!

Flashtool
Note: Xperia z2 tablet is not "officially" supported on flashtool. This is be known to have errors when trying to unlock the bootloader and getting the message that it still needs to be in fastboot mode when it is clearly in fastboot already. It does however read the devices status and connect thru adb. WiFi 16 GB model has provided numerous issues in my experience especially.
Want to unlock bootloader and throw a custom recovery on it? As of now, voiding warranty thru Sony for the unlock code and pushing it thru command mode fastboot is your cleanest solution.

[Q] Any fix for PCC "There is no software available for your device" error?

Hello Everyone,
i'm sure most of you guys are facing this weird PC Companion issue after downloading the new (23.0.1.A.0.167) FW, to make it short, here is what i get:
1- connecting my XZ2
2- New Software available (23.0.1.A.0.167)
3- Disconnect the device (PCC new feature)
4- Downloading .... etc
5- Connection XZ2 again
6- The mobile shuts down
7- Error "There is no software available for your device"
check the attached screenshot
so any possible fix for this?
Yeah, it happened to me as well and it's pissing me off.
Could it be low internal memory???

I download generic Russia, and flash it.
That Was Really Awfull
So I decrypted the files i got from the PC Companion and guess what i found...!!
the old version rom (.314) was the one included in the downloaded files, FU..K YOU SONY, you didn't even bother to check the files you are sending to us.
Seems that the same problem happens in several regions, as lots of talk i found when googling the problem.
And that explains everything, the PC Companion downloads whats on the server as the new 23.0.1.A.0.167, and when the mobile shuts down to the flash mode the error happens
Also some guy at the GENERAL forum posting the ROM twice, and they reply "its the old one", unbelievable ...

I am wondering the same. I live in Sweden and got offered new firmware 23 (or whatever it is). So I've downloaded about 1gig of something and than when it turns off the phone, I get info about no software available.
When I check available firmware for Sweden, it has two version or two operators (not for the third one, which I happen to have) and both are version 17.xxx. WTF??? I guess PC Companion got too happy about availability of nw firmware somewhere in the world and realized, that there is no new FW for my region. ugh.
Same error here in France
23.0.1.A.0.167 sony pc companion update error "there is no update available for your device"
Same here on both my Z2 D6503 & Z2 tablet...
Same issue for me in Italy. I think I will flash the tft. Already wait a lot
I had deutschland unbranded 4.4.2 and I have been updated to 4.4.4 with PCC without issues. (I'm from Costa Rica)
same thing happened to me. but now I managed to update it successfully. just uninstall pc companion and download from their site and install again. redo the process of updating. hope it works in your case.

SOLVED::-- Help: Phone in boot loop

I am having 14.4.A.0.108 installed on my (C6833) phone and because lollipop isn't yet available for my market but available already in the German market, I decided to download customized DE 14.5.A.0.242 from XperiFirm and flash it with the (FlashTool) Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde.
Now my phone just kept on rolling in the bootloop
Completely black screen with SONY in the middle of screen and XPERIA below
How can I bring it back to life either with the customized DE firmware or my martket's firmware (Nordic Combined)
To anyone having this problem, I got it solved by unlocking the bootloader using Flashtool then use Sony's Emma to restore my own market's kitkat back to the phone. After this, I locked the bootloader back and restore from backup using Sony PC companion.
Hope this helps anyone in similar situation.
PS: Apparently the useless Sony PC companion didnt make a full backup
