sony xperia z2 fast charging - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hai guys any one using fast charging for sony xpeira z2 phones.., if yes, whats the time taken by phone to get fully charged? and is it worth to loose my warranty for fast charging?
thanks
help me

sony xperia z2 doesnt support fast charging and even with mods installed it charges in about the same time (thats based off of my experience)
typically charging time ranges between 40 mins and 3hrs peaking at 1400Mah Maximum

Lol.. 3 hours that's too much.. Can't we do anything to vary that? How much time does it take for ur phone to charge

it usually doesn't take 3hrs unless google backup is syncing but often its a hour
ive found the fastest way to charge my phone is to put it in aeroplane mode and to stop all apps that shouldent be running
(some things i find helpful
- thicker usb cables
- shorter usb cables
- wallchargers that can push alot of power
- try plugging straight into a wall as laptops/computers/etc are slower)

In Sony official website it's showing that Ep 881 supports fast charge for z2.. Is that correct?

Not really

that's bad.. My phone is taking more than 3 hours to get fully charged.. I hate it!!

My phone maxes out at 1A oddly using either the stock EP880 1.5A, a Samsung 1.9A and an external battery 2.1A (all 5V). But on CM based ROMs they max at 1.4A as expected. Tried installing the QC hack for LB (UB method doesn't support .232) but no noticeable difference.

Ohh.. Okay

When I've been using some chineese 2.0A charger I could see the results. The phone was charging faster without any mods.

[Q] super slow charging. whyyy ?

i just got this phone a few days ago. i love it. nothing wrong with it.
super fast and everything. im on 2.3.6. no issues. my battery lasts 12 hours easy. and actually up to 26 hours so far.
i dont even feel the need for a custom rom. at least not for now.
but one thing that makes me mad is how slow the phone charges, anyone know why this is ? it's kinda frustrating lol
any way to change this ?
also....i kinda hate that there is no camera button on the actual phone. oh well.
*Edited*
well i dont like to charge unless my battery is on red. so that conflicts, its not always red when i go to sleep. but thanks i'll check it out.
and i dont want to unlock to camera. it's easier to take photos with a button is what im saying

If I remember correctly waiting till the battery is completely depleted is not a good thing for our batteries.
i never said completely depleted though.
and yea ive read so many reviews to not do that, and reviews that say you should... and reviews to charge it this much and that much and blah blah. may be a new phone, but none of this is new to me.
Charge current is hardware limited from what I've read. Or atleast for the time being. If your using the phone while charging it'll be significantly slower. Also using wallplug makes a difference. If you've got stuff running while charging try throttling down the CPU while charging.
Other than that I think our phone is limited to 650mah to charge. So 1650/650 is about 2.5 hours with perfect efficiency. Now take into account the power being drawn and how the chargers for li batteries work, that's about 3-4 hrs to be expected.
And don't run li batteries all the way down on a regular basis, its not good. I'm not positive on li ion batteries, but with lipo you generally want to use about %80 of rated capacity to prolong life and power of the cell.
400 mA on USB, 650 on a wall charger, CPU/screen usage counts against these limits - no way to change this
Forgot where I read it. Could be wrong too.
Slow charging for this phone was samsungs way of keeping our phones battery in shape. Hopefully prolonging the life of it. I noticed my 3GS lose about 20% of its full capacity in a couple years. Only time will tell?
Siyah has an option to upping the charging mA I believe.
Sent from my AT&T cellular device.
all useful responses and all make sense. thank you guys.
i dont use it when it charges and yea it does take about 4 hours to charge.
coming from a crappy xperia x10 which took about 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100
but this phone is 10 times better even without a custom rom so i can deal.
thank you guys for ur knowledge.

He removed it because it turned out not to work. (If it's still there I'm surprised - it should be completely gone.)
It turns out the I9100 has the same limitation as the I777 - charging is handled not by the MAX8997, but by a MAX8922.

If you are on Entropy's DD kernel you should divide that number by 2.85
Battery charge current monitoring (CurrentWidget) support - only reports charge current and not discharge, and reports a value 2.85 times the actual current. Use CurrentWidget's "operation on value" to divide by 2.85.

[Q] Recharging the Xperia S

Hey all,
Since there's no Q&A thread as of yet, I'll be posting my question here.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for it but couldn't find the answer.
My Xperia S just came in today, I started recharging the device when it hit around the 10%.
However, it's recharging so, so slow! Is it supposed to be this slow?
I thought the Xperia S was supposed to have fast charge capabilities?
If so, how do I charge it faster?
It's a Dutch unit btw.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a generic UK unit the first charge does take slightly longer. It took around 2.5 hrs after that I got from 1% to 100% in just under 2 hrs. You are not charging via your PC are you?

Nope, using the supplied charger and cable..
EDIT: Also, there seems to be some lag on the home screen and especially in the app drawer.. Anyone notice this?
There are 2 versions of chargers shipping with the XS, EP800 ( less power output ) and EP850 ( More power output )
check your charger to see if it is an EP800, i am pretty sure it will be. The 850 does its job much faster.
Another way Sony is "cheating" on us.... after i got my XS replaced twice in 1 week and already waiting on another replacement it just do not surprise me anymore that things like this happen with this device.
First Flagship from sony alone and it is already a catastrophe

Yep, it's an EP850. The first recharge takes ages, but the second recharge is pretty darn fast.
I don't have any problems as of yet with the XS, except for its laggy home screen.
Wonder if I'm the only one whose home screen is lagging..

is ep800 safer 4 battery? quicker charging = shorter battery life?
more mA -> more resistance -> more heat -> less battery cycles life?

Someone else may know this better, but, as far as I know, Xperia S have tech so it recharge faster without problems.

It's no safer than the 850.
The phone was made to withstand the 850 charger (one of the selling points actually was its charging). My phone (Tmobile NL) was shipped with the speed charger, but I'm noticing that after a few weeks the phone seems to be charging fast in general, on any charger...or maybe I am just imagining things?
I have an old BB charger that I use sometimes (I have chargers all around the house from old phones, i swear :/) and it seems to also charge it fast.
Edit: Also, on both chargers, my battery life is just as fantastic at night I charge my phone while I sleep though ( I don't get why you wouldn't charge your phone while you sleep?) so maybe my battery is more worn-in than a lot of people.
My phone is plugged into my " old " desire charger at home, which seams to charge faster than the default one , saying that , I also use my PC to charge ,so maybe the little top ups help + the charger at home .
It does last a while now, however we are running a powerful ( mini ) PC , so we cant expect too much !!

[Q] check for original charger

i bought a charger online it looks very much like the original bundled one. However i have a couple of questions
1. is there a way i can check the output quality using the phone itself and not a multimeter . Like variation in voltage/current?
2. using a multimeter do i have to tear apart the charger to check the output quality.
any inputs are welcome

Depends on what you mean by 'output quality'. If you mean the ripple (noise), especially in response to load changes, then no, you can't without oscilloscope and dummy load.
If you do not have this measuring equipment, then I would use these two simple tests:
does the empty phone fully charge within 2 - 3 hours ?
does the touchscreen stay responsive while charging ?
If you can answer both of these questions with yes then one could assume the charger is of good quality.
thanx for an informative reply man. the thing is i use usb charger usually battery is 8 months old . i dont know how long it will charger to recharge. giving these conditions u still think it will take 2-3 hours to charge ? yes the touchscreen stays remains but i think there is the usual "noise " that makes minor error in touchscreen smoothness. do u understand wat i am trying to tell u.

the minor 'touch screen smoothness' issue will be there while charging thro wall charger for sure and also the charging time do wary depending on how old the battery is

If the battery is fine (and it should still be after 8 months) charging of an empty battery should happen within 2 - 3 hours.

Fast charge is disabled by default (on obvious reasons, google it), but hey... anyone is free to make it work if he can find a proper solution.

Yes I am , thank you, cause the slow charge issue was elaborated and mentioned so many time around XDA but seems no one cares to search and read.
This phone with and with original charger, and AFTER teh update from Gingerbread to ICS/JB is charging as per specs. On Gingerbread there was a flaw that permitted to charge it upto 900-1000 mA but the phone was rather hot, I recall charging mine in an hour and a half or 15-20 minutes more, from 2-3% to 100% back when phone had GingerBread.

You can use 2.1A output chargers too, it is simply not going to draw all that but you might get the better on the go recharging while you're using the phone with heavy apps. Just think of the dual car chargers - they have both 1A (phone) and 2.1A (tablet) output. SatNav on 1A is zeroing or still draining your phone battery, while 2A can slowly charge it on the go.
You just give it a needed juice and if the discharge is so greater then recharge, there's not much you can do about it.
Call it a flaw, but Samsung did it cause of longevity of their batteries and li-ion technology.
That is why I indicated iCrap and BB - their fast charge is provoking rather fast discharge too cause the battery will not hold it. I have colleagues with BB who're charging in an hour but get their phones depleted in 3 hours of usage... I wouldn't want that from my S2 for sure. :good:

It doesn't matter what the output current of the charger is... the phone will only draw 650mA.
The charger I got with my S2 delivers 1A but my phone only draws 650mA. Actually the hardware doesn't support it.
IMO, 3hrs is pretty fast for a full charge.
Edit: Just noticed that Fevves already mentioned all that...

2A is correct. 2000mA == 2A.
You're charging at your own risk while going over 2A.

It has QC 2.0 which is disabled. To make it work, you will have to flash CyanogenMod. Maybe a custom kernel for MIUI will also work
No... It supports quick charge which is what stock charger provides =2000mA=2A
Qualcomm SD650 supports qc3.0, but xiaomi didnt pay license to qcomm, so we dont have it.
This guys just unlocked it..to more then 2A...but its not safe to charge over 2.4A, because it will heat much more. With 2A gou get full battery in around 2h which is not bad.
I don't understand this discussion at all. If you stress a device above levels considered safe by the OEM, you *OF COURSE* can damage it! What did you expect?
So my phone charges at 2.4A even though I selected 2A when I flashed the Radon Kernel. I'm using the Ampere amp to measure current. Before I flashed the Radon kernel, Ampere showed that I charged at 2A. Anyone else seeing this?
As long as you use stock charger it has no dangerous effect, i too use a script to maximize charging current, my device doesnt heat up . on my lockscreen i got message like "charging rapidly , xx minutes remaining" , and guess what, the xx number is actually not accurate because the charging time is like 1,5x faster .
I think you are wrong!

This guys just unlocked it..to more then 2A...but its not safe to charge over 2.4A, because it will heat much more. With 2A gou get full battery in around 2h which is not bad.

The fast charging feature needs extra integrated chips which would increase the price of phone, hence Xiaomi quit to get the chips integrated! It's not software related thing which can be unlocked or locked by flashing a rom!
