[Q] I9100 USB problem

Hi, I have a problem with my Galaxy s2. Every time I try to connect it to the computer nothing happens... It doesn't even charge. I've tried different usb and different computers but nothing. My other phones connect fine but I can't seem to find the problem with my s2. USB port on phone is fine because it charges fine using a wall charger. Any help would be appreciated.
I've also tried connecting with different roms or cwm but still didn't work.
Go to settings ---> Storage then click on menu button and select USB configuration connection option. Change the option from mass storage to MTP and the see if it works.
Good Luck
I already tried that

yes im running ressurection remix 2.2.1 and ive tried connecting with a samsung based rom but it didnt work

2 PC's and my notebook can't detect my SGS3

So yeah, I give up trying in hope to get some decent help here.
I am not able to connect my SGS3 to any of my 2 PC's or my notebook.
I have tried everything as far as I know (on all 3 systems):
(Re)installed KIES
(Re)connected my SGS3
Rebooted the computers
Rebooted the phone
Did a factory reset
Used the SGS3 toolkit
Tried different USB slot
I even bought a new USB cable just to be sure :s
When I plug it in it starts charging and that's it.
Windows doesn't even give the confirmation sound when any random USB device is connected.
I don't see my SGS3 anywhere on my computer (not in device manager, nowhere).
I reinstalled KIES several times and installed the drivers through the SGS3 toolkit.
I own the international SGS3 with stock rom (haven't been able to update at all because of the connection issue).
I do not know what to do anymore.
Please help oh wise XDA gurus !
I would try a return to supplier and get them to prove its not hardware

Had the very same problem.. installed updated usb drivers from the samsung site and it pretty much worked for me..

Probably a broken registry on your computer try fixing it using advanced system care (it's free) afterwards try reconnecting it again. If that doesn't work try to go to samsung's support section and see what you can find to resolve your issue.
I tried it on my PC at work, same problem.
Registry issue on 4 different machines?
I think not.
Also:
I got connectivity for a moment on both my PC and notebook but it went away within seconds.
The phone gave the notification that it is connected as a mass storage device.
Then the message disappeared and it only charged and nothing else.
Playing with the cable it came back and off a few times.
Now it stays disconnected.
Seems like the connector in my phone is dead :s?
Open Terminal Emulator
type SU
then type this.....
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage adb

Check the connector on your S3. The PC's maybe fine, but something is shorting pin 2 & 3 thereby nullifying the data pins.Hence it is being detected as a charger.(Actually that is the difference between a charger connection and a PC connection).Thereis a thread on XDA about cleaning it with a toothpick. Takes a few minutes actually.
you may consider on cleaning your phone's usb port
in addition, there is an app in the market (for free) that enables/disables usb mass storage (that's how i used to fix my usb problems; i honestly dunno why)
also, if u have tried different roms (stock/kernel), it may be a hw problem.

I thought I had connector problems myself sometime ago, but as Dr Danish said, I un installed the samsung drivers which are different from un installing kies. Restart pc and connect phone, make sure you have Internet, and windows will auto install them again.

if this is happening on multiple machines then its more likely to be the phone, did it happen after a flash phone reboot?. It happened to me on my old galaxy S2 after flashing a corrupt MIUI ROM.
Flash back to FULL stock should resolve, if not then your phone is in a state you can return it in, if you haven't had it long they may do a straight swapout.
It is the only thing that worked for me. It tells the phone to inquire about mtp/mass storage everytime it is connected

Does that mean you solved this with a flash back to Stock as I advised?, although sgs3 doesn't use mass storage, if you are on stock you wouldn't get these messages unless you had rooted and installed EASUMS. When you plug it in it should just say on your phone "connected as media device" and it will connect to your PC using MTP. All you need for MTP to work is the correct drivers, Kies install will provide these if you havent found them elsewhere.
Where are you at now then?

PC won't recognize S3

When I plug my international S3 into my PC it will charge but I don't see it on the computer.
Info: international s3, win 7 32bit, 32gb extsd card.
I've removed the battery and sd card, & restarted both the phone and computer. Also tried using many different usb port locations on the PC.
I cant install the official Jelly Bean update through Odin because my S3 can't even connect to my PC!!!!!

I've reinstalled Kies.
I've reinstalled the drivers from Samsung.
I've tried many different USB cables.
It only works about 5% of the time. Usually the USB notification icon won't even show up in the notification tray.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem with my phone. When I reset the phone, it'll connect to the PC but as soon as the phone updates from my Google account, the phone won't connect to the PC anymore. I tried replacing the phone and same thing. There's something with my Google account. I tried checking all syncing settings and even turned off all syncing. Nothing.
That is such a pain in the ass. If you find a solution please tell me.
I'm thinking about doing a factory reset but I'm afraid the same thing will happen as you.
It doesn't work in Ubuntu as well as Windows btw
Does the USB icon appear in the system tray when you plug it in?
If so, make sure you have it in Camera mode instead of MTP.
If it works, the way I got it to recognize the phone was when my computer failed installing the drivers, I set it to locate the recommended drivers from the internet automatically. I'm on Win7 32 bit as well.

No, the USB icon isn't even appearing in the notification tray. It works about 5% of the time and when it did show up, I was in MTP mode not Camera mode. If the icon shows up again I will change it.
I am going to reset my phone right now... I really don't want to do it (loose all my things).

My S3 wont show up in the device manager in Win7. There is also no USB icon in the phones notification tray.
Had the same issue. Happened when kies updated. Only fix I could get to work was uninstalling Samsung drivers and kies from the computer. Rebooting both phone and computer, then plugging phone into computer for drivers to reload. This worked as long as I did not reinstall kies.

Can't connect phone in Windows 8.1 Pro

Has anyone else had any problems connecting their Verizon flavored S4 to Windows 8.1 or any other Windows version? I don't know what happened to the phone, but some time back it lost the ability to connect to either my desktop running Windows 8.1 Pro or my laptop running Windows 8/Ultimate Edition 4.2. My Tab 3 8.0 connects just fine, but that's not the one I'm interested in upgrading the OS on. If anyone has insights, please share. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response, but I should've stated that I used to be able to connect the phone to Windows 8 in the past. For whatever reason, when I plug in the phone, I don't even get the prompt in the status bar asking me how I want to connect (Media or Camera, or whatever the two options are). For some reason, that option has disappeared. All the required settings are checked in System Settings under Developer Options, and they match what I have set on my Tab 3 8.0 which connects fine.

My phone is pretty stock except for the usual root features. I uninstalled some Verizon bloatware and used an app to block that annoying firmware update notice that was driving me nuts. I didn't even know my phone was having PC connection issues until the first time I got the update notice and tried to connect it to my computer to backup a few things. My Tab is set up pretty much the same, which is what has me a little baffled. Aside from missing a few non-essential Verizon apps, I could uninstall SafeStrap and un-root both devices and one would never know they'd ever been rooted. If I ever do take the plunge into the world of KitKat and want to keep root, I know I'll have to be able to connect to my computer and the required Odin program for the ROM download, which is about the only thing keeping my from doing the update.

Ok, this is a little weird. I plugged my Tab into my desktop at which time Windows did it's thing and installed the necessary items. So for a kick, I plugged in my phone and suddenly they decided to talk to each other. Can't explain it, but I'm glad it's working now.

Note 2 + Windows 10

Got this new computer on Sunday. Came with windows8. I immediately upgraded to 10. So I cah't say anything about 8. It's not in my best interests to try to even use it.
My note 2 does NOTHING when plugged in to the computer. I have no drivers. Even the notification bar on the phone does NOTHING.
In short. I plug the phone in to PC and get NOTHING. So i can't access my phone as a external media device to retreive my pics and what not from phone to PC.
Right now, I'm using the ONE DRIVE cloud method. PRETTY SLOW.
Is there ANY way to get the PC and phone to connect using windows 10? If so, could someone please post a link to where the drivers or whatever i need might be.
THANK YOU.
Download samsung kies try installing it on your pc ,then i think you may find your phone compatible with with your pc.

Mine works out of the box with Windows 10.
Win 10......
Try a different usb port and or usb cable. I have multiple Win8 and 10 boxes and have had no issues with multiple different phones being recognized.
Hope this helps.
