Microphone issue? Whatsapp voice messages too soft - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
On whatsapp you can send voice messages right?
For some reason my voice messages are very soft recently.
My friends have complained that they can't hear my messages and when i'm listening to my own sent voice messages, it's very soft too!
However, I am nearly touching the microphone while i'm sending a voice message!
Does anyone else have this issue with whatsapp?
I did not encounter any problems like a few weeks ago.
Warm regards,
Rosaline

Hello,
I have a similar issue. Basically if I send a voice message without staying very close to the microphone the message results very soft. But if I put my mouth close to the microphone the voice message is ok. I don't know if it depends on the microphone or on the firmware.

Try and set it to high? Settings>sound and notifications>accessory settings>mic sensitivity

Hmm, I seem to have the same problem even though I hold the bottom of the phone (the mic) in front of my mouth
I have an app that is recording an actual phone call (so not a whatsapp call) for me and when I listen to that recording my mic seems to be doing fine.
So it is only whatsapp that's acting weird.
Not sure what could be the reason.

Have you found any fix for it because i have the same problem with snapchat

Hangouts Video Call Issue

This is a weird bug that has made my hangouts video calls unusable. If this has been addressed before I apologize.
When I make a video call on my G2 and the mic is set to speaker the person on the other end cant hear me. It is only until I set the mic option to headset that can the other caller hear me. This makes for my having to hear the other caller through the earpiece at a low volume. My phone works for calls through both speaker and earpiece so IDK what's up. I am currently on Slimrom If this belongs in that thread ill repost it there.
Thanks for any advice.
hi,
i am using a stock firmware, and i do not encounter this problem
so i tend to think it's related to your rom
did you try however to delete the cache and data for hangouts ? and basically reconfigure the app . Perhaps it will help

Low microphone volume

Hello,
I'm facing the issue that voice messages (e.g. WhatsApp voice messages) are recorded in a very low volume. The person I'm sending the messages to is almost not able to hear me.
The volume during a regular phone call seems to work.
Does anyone know a solution for that? I already googled and changed some values within the build.prop, audio_platform_info.xml and mixer_paths.xml but nothing seems to work.
Regards
There was thread about this few months ago. It turned out that third party apps sometimes record via Noise Cancellation Mic
And is there any possibility to change that?
Can you give me a link to this thread?
Thanks in advance!

mic: low volume in voice message

Hi all. I bought 2 Honor 10 devices and on both smartphones I am experiencing the same problem: voice messages sent through WhatsApp or Telegram and other third party apps come out with a very low volume. I literally have to be 1 cm close to the mic in order for the volume to be ok. 5 cm away and they can barely hear me. I believe it to be a software bug. It works fine when making phone calls or recording voice notes through the "recording" app. Anybody out there having the same issue and know if there's a chance to fix this? It's a deal breaker for me and I'm considering to return the devices for a refund. Thanks
I have the same problem on Loudapeaker
I have the same problem!
- voice messages sent through WhatsApp or Facebook come out with a very low volume
- It works fine when making phone calls or recording voice notes through the "recording" app
- I literally have to be 1 cm close to the mic in order for the volume to be ok. 5 cm away and they can barely hear me.
But until now no solution for it...

Question Is anyone else experience low mic volume when recording Whatsapp voice notes?

I get extremely low mic volume when recording voice notes I know this is not an OS or hardware issue because the mic works perfectly on other apps including Instagram or telegram voice notes.
It is so low that I literally have to place the bottom mic on my lips to get a half decent volume recording level. This problem also doesn't exist in the Whatsapp Business app.
A temporary work around I found is to activate another app using the mic like any other voice recorder set actively to recording and then switch to Ehatsapp and record your voice note. Whatsapp support have proved entirely useless with canned responses every time I email them.
Just the normal and beta version of the standard Whatsapp messenger. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
Hello. I 'm having the same issue since some months ago.
I were not able to find a solution yet. Just received the update 11.2.7.7 but have not tried if this helped to solve the issue or not.
I checked with telegram and realized, the issue was only shown in whatsapp.
I'm yet to receive this update. It should reflect in a few days though. Kindly let me know if this update fixed it
Did you guys find a fix for this?

Question Calls not working properly on calls and whatsapp calls.

Hi there people.
I've got the following issue. If anyone has this issue or has fixed it let me know.
Calls seem to be interfering with my mic. Sometimes my voice doesn't go to the other end even though normal call or whatsapp call. They might hear 1 word then nothing from me for a few seconds then a word or two and it sometimes sounds like a clicking noise.
I've called my self too and I can't hear anything on my RM7 but whoever I call can hear the clicking noise and sometimes nothing from me.
Sometimes I can't hear the other person too. It cuts out.
Same with normal calls and whatsapp calls.
Continuing my testing, I can send voice notes without issue and receive them and play it via rhe earpiece without issue too. Even voice recording and video recording the microphone does a good job only in calls it bugs out.
Continuing my testing
Works fine with headphones connected. But mic and earpiece work fine when used by voice notes and video ect
I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but I have the same issue. It started around last week.
I cleaned my speakers and mic thinking I got dirt build up. But it's still the same.
It seems like a software issue. Looking at the patch notes in latest OS update (NX679J_UNcommon_V3.16) for me, they have listed "Repair: possible issues with calls in some scenarios". I don't know when they released the update and when I applied it to my phone but that could be the reason for this issue too.
After reading your post I tried regular calls with headphones, speakers and video call with Google meet. They all work fine.
For call on speaker, as soon as you turn the speaker off it starts acting up again.
Hopefully they will fix this issue soon.
From my testing it seems like its an app or something interfeering with the calls. I started the phone up in safe mode (no 3rd party apps only stock ones) and the issue was gone, so the issue is a app related issue, thinking its a virus I just reset the phone to factory and all is good now. I didnt find what was causing it.
Thanks for an update.
I will play around a bit and if it doesn't work out then will do the same.
